Chapter 1
The Dawning of Brotherhood
The sun had started to set on that cold Wednesday evening. Many of the people that lived in the Kingdom were standing in the large stoned courtyard with frozen horror on their faces. Most of these people had been afraid of coming out tonight. They knew how these executions always turned out as they had seen so many times. As the young man and woman were brought onto the platform most of the crowd stepped back as though the young couple had some sort contagious disease. The young couple was placed above the trap doors and ropes were placed around their necks.
As all this was happening the Sherriff walked out from behind the Gallows and approached the crowd. He looked impressive and important. He was wearing clothes made of very fine green silk, over which a long black cloak was draped over his shoulders. He stopped in front of the crowd and looked around at them all with his eyes as though trying to catch more people like the young couple behind him. Then he spoke to the crowd his voice booming over them all, and with every word he spoke there was nothing but pure hatred in his voice "200 years ago our world was in chaos. We were faced with a threat so great that many men died in the long war to stop what many people call 'Magic'". At the mention of the Word 'Magic' many of the crowd shivered with fear. Magic had been outlawed after the Great War. Many witches and wizards had been slaughtered. Condemned for what they could do. It is true that there were witches and wizards who had dabbled in the dark arts. There would always be those who would do it. But most of the Wizarding world had been good and pure and used magic for the benefit of life Magical or Muggle. But those times had come to an end.
"We fought against those who practice those dreadful sins. Those who sought to force their ideas on us. Those that called themselves Witches and Wizards". Again the crowd shivered as though a chilly wind had passed over them. "We fought against them for many long years. We lost a lot of good men and women. But because of their noble sacrifice we were able to drive those sinners into exile". The sheriff turned to face the couple on the stage and a wicked grin slid onto his face as though he desired nothing more than to watch those two people suffer for the crimes that they committed. "These people however feel that magic is a good thing. That it should be embraced". Quite a few people in the crowd laughed and sneered. The man turned around to face the crowd once again. "Now let us demonstrate how we punish those who still believe it is wise to continue to practice something that was banned for our world all those years ago". The Sheriff walked onto the gallows passed the young couple and towards the leaver at the end of the stage. As he placed his hand on the leaver he looked at the couple and said in almost a whisper. "I hope you prayed to your gods". And with that he pulled the leaver.
It was nearly midnight. The young couple was still there hanging from the ropes. They had been left there to remind people what the consequences were if you dabbled in magic. Finally a young boy of 8 years old came from out of the shadows where he had been hiding for the last three hours unable to walk towards the bodies of his beloved parents. As he approached he vividly recalled the memories of last night and how his parents had been caught. 'It was all my fault' the little boy said in his head over and over again with every step he took. 'if I hadn't done magic, they would still be alive'. The young Family had been staying in the woods close by to the kingdom. They had been there because they had heard that there was a camp for Wizarding Refugees close by. There were many of these camps around England.
They were a safe haven for all Wizarding kind. But unfortunately there had been a patrol of knights riding past their campsite. They had seen the Boy do Magic and had immediately attempted to take the boy. But his parents had seen their son in danger and had pulled out their wands to save their son. They had told him to run and that they would catch up but before he had started his mother gave him the Golden locket she had always wore around her neck, told him to keep it safe, and told him to hide until they came for him. He had done as she asked he had waited even as the sun had come up. But they did not come for him. He had run back to the campsite. But they weren't there. The camp had been destroyed. He had heard about his parent's executions and had snuck into the kingdom to try and save them. But he had failed. Now the Boy just stood there looking at the bodies. His Parents had been the only family he had left. Now he was alone. He had nobody else.
Then the little boy felt something cold and heavy on his chest. As he pulled out the locket from beneath his shirt he felt more saddened. It was all he had left of his parents.
Then a clock Chimed Midnight, and the boy jumped. He couldn't stay here. He would be caught, and his parents had died so that he could live. After taking one last look at them he turned his back and walked slowly away from them. He walked along the empty streets until he found the entrance to the underground lake that had brought him into the kingdom. Then after 30 minutes he had emerged out into the forest and began to head north.
He wasn't sure how long he walked for; it certainly seamed hours because when he finally realized what he was doing, the sun had risen. He looked around at environment to see where he was, but he didn't recognize the landscape. As he looked he noticed a small outcrop of rock that would provide good shelter for the night. 2 hours later the young boy sat under the rock, tears slowly trickling down his face. Hey He kept thinking about all that had happened over the last few days. 'How could I have been so stupid' he kept thinking to himself over and over again.
Suddenly he heard the sounds of approaching horses and the sound of men's voices. "There's a small ridge down there we stop there for a bit". Quietly as he could the young boy slid further into the crop to hide himself better. Suddenly 15 knights came into the clearing. All of them were wearing armor. The same armor that the people had taken his parents. As the knights dismounted their horses the young boy placed his had into his pocket and pulled out a wand. Then one of the men said something that made his heart stop dead. "Hey do we know how much further till we hit that wizard camp". The boy slowly lowered his wand and stared at the men. "Another 3 miles west. Did you hear how many wizards would be there" The boy crept forwards very slowly to try and hear better. "Yeah over one hundred of them". Now there was excitement murmuring. The boy sat there in shock. Now he knew where he was. His parents had told him that the wizard camp that they were heading for was 30 miles west from the castle. And he had must have walked most of the way. Now he listened more closely as though he was hoping to hear more details about the camp.
The men sat down on the ground and started to eat. The boy stayed perfectly still while they ate, hoping to hear more about the camp. Then one of the knights stopped eating very abruptly. He lowered his plate to the ground and stood up. He fellows seamed to be a little stunned that he had stopped eating. The boy crouched lower down but not low enough so that he couldn't see anymore. But then Knight whip his face to his left and stared right at the place where the boy was hiding. At that moment the boy knew he had been seen.
"Over there" he shouted at the top of his lungs, as he drew his sword and ran forward. The Boy raised his wand and sent a curse at the knights. He fell to the floor stun and unmarked. But he knew as soon as he sent the curse he had given away the fact that he was a wizard. The other guards ran forward all drawing their swords and running towards the outcrop. With no other choice the boy ran as fast as he could away from the Knights . He ran while his clothes and face getting snacked by branches as he ran, all the while they were getting closer, in utter desperation the boy started to shoot spell after spell over his shoulders by a loud grunt and the loud crash that followed the boy knew that he hit 1 of them. But then quite suddenly he tripped over a tree root and fell to the floor with a thud.
As he tried to get to his feet a hand sized him by the back of his neck pulled him upwards and threw him into a tree. As the by slid to the bottom of the tree he felt 3 sword tips touching his throat. "What do you reckon we should do with him" Grunted 1 of them. "We should take him back to the kingdom". Another grunted.
While they were talking about what they were gonna do with him the boy distinctly heard the sounds of movement in the surrounding trees. The guards had finally agreed on what to do with him and the burliest picked him up to carry him to the horse. At once Arrows came out of nowhere and the guards screamed the one holding the boy dropped him to defend himself .
The boy hit the ground with a hard thud that knocked the wind out of him. But he was still able to see a horde of men wearing rags with red hoods coming out of the forest some drawing swords while others drew back on the strings of bows.
The boy managed to get his breath back and pulled himself away from the fight. After getting 20 feet away he turned back to see the fight getting real bloody the men in rags were not fighting fair, even though the boy didn't care about the knights he didn't want to see them die like they did.
After 15 minutes of bloody violence the men in rags had finished off the knights and were now stripping them of their armour and weapons. While a bunch of men went off to get the horses, 1 man came towards the boy. The boy immediately tried to stumble away but the man held his hands out and lifted the boy to his feet and brushed him off.
After he had done this he lowered his hood to reveal a very kind looking face even though he had a scar over his left eye which was milk white. He kneeled down to the boys level to look into the boys scared face. "Are you alright" he asked. The boy was still shaking but nodded. The man looked around the area to see any sign of a camp but saw nothing. "Where are your family?" He asked. The boy lowered his head and a tear came out of his eye. The man seamed to understand. "What's your name"? The boy raised his head but kept his eyes averted. "Salazar Slytherin" the boy whispered. "I'm Godran Gryffindor" and without another word he stood up and held out his hand. Salazar took his hand and was led to a horse.
They rode for most of the day Salazar just sitting still thinking about everything. After what felt like days they had stopped. Salazar looked around at the sight that was before him. From what he was told about this camp he he expected it to be be a bunch of tents. But that wasn't what he saw. If he had to give it a name he would have called a village. There were about 20 houses all grouped together with a simple village square. Behind the housers were tents but they looked like they were only Temporary as there were already partly built houses next to them. Loads of people were outside. Men building, women gossiping and children playing.
Salazar felt Godran dismount the horse and helped him off as well, they were standing outside a well built house that seamed to be built out of stone. The outside had a somewhat decent garden with a wall that looked as if was halfway built.
The door opens up to reveal a young woman with Fiery Red hair and brown eyes that seamed to shine with kindness, she was wearing a red dress that seamed homemade.
Godran opend his arms wide and the and embraced the woman. "Godran I've been so worried about you". "I'm ok my my love" he said as they realised each other. It was only then that the woman noticed Salazar. "Who's this?" She asked turning to look at Godran. "His name is Salazar we saved him from a bunch of Muggles". She turned back to Salazar with a smile and walk towards him
Slowly. "Hello Salazar I'm Sapphire Gryffindor" she said quietly. Salazar merely nodded in acknowledgment. "What about his family?" she asked looking back at Godran. He gave a quick Glance at Salazar before wondering how to answer, finally he looked at the Sapphire and said quietly. "We're his family now" Sapphire seamed to not understand at first and then the realisation came to her. She looked a Salazar with such sadness in her eyes, then with a look of uncertainty she lowered herself to his level and pulled him into a hug.
Salazar was hesitant at first, but after a second he surrendered to it. He wrapped his arms around Sapphire and finally broke down in tears. He wasn't sure how long he held on to her for but when he finally did he noticed that Godran had kneeled down beside his wife. As he placed a hand on Salazar's shoulder he said in a quiet voice. "We promise that you will have your revenge on the people who took your family from you". Sapphire looked as though she was about to say something but held her tongue.
"We have a son, maybe a little older than you but I'm sure you and he will get along fine, He's currently playing with his friends but will be back later". Salazar nodded at her words but started to sway on the spot. At once Sapphire took Salazar in her arms and took him inside, the inside of the house was quite basic there was a large kitchen and area for eating and two makeshift doors that Salazar had assumed were bedroom. Sapphire headed for the closet door which when opened was quite spacious had two beds. She lay Salazar on the bed and gave him a kiss on the forehead. "Get some sleep my dear we will see you in the morning". And with that she left Salazar feeling a wired sense of comfort being here in this room.
Hours later Salazar woke up to a bright sunlight coming in through the window. He must have slept straight through the rest of the day and the whole night. He was quite surprised at that considering what had happened to him over the last few days. There was a small knock at the door and in came Sapphire holding a bowl of stew with a spoon. "Morning my dear. Did you sleep well?". Salazar nodded surprising himself. In truth he wasn't sure why he felt ok. Maybe it had something to do
With being in the house of this family or that he slept in a comfortable bed for the first time in years.
Sapphire placed the stew by his bed and swooped down to kiss Salazar on the head. He smiled at her, then felt the presence of someone else turning to the door he saw a young boy standing by the door he was quite tall with long auburn hair that was tied back. He was also wearing a red vest that had had lion's head just below his left shoulder and wore black pants with brown boots that looked well worn. Sapphire turned to the door to see what Salazar was looking at and smiled. "Ahh yes, Salazar this is my Son Godric"
Godric looked at Salazar with uncertainty for a few moments. It was like he wasn't sure what to make of the young boy. "Hello" said Salazar with a sad smile. Godric still stared at him with uncertainty but after a while smiled back and returned the hello.
