"Hey Remus" Lily said cheerfully
"Hey Lily" Remus replied
"Can I talk to you??"
"S-sure" Remus said shakily, looking towards James but was relieved when he gave him a reassuring nod.
While Lily and Remus were talking James and Sirius were watching carefully. "James, relax. This is Remus-" Peter whimpered
"Yeah mate, they're nerds. They're probably talking about the essay due next week or something."
"They better be" James growled
Meanwhile, Lily and Remus were talking about the opposite of what their friends thought, little did they know that they were in for the shock of their lives.
Over the next few weeks Remus was rarely seen with the Marauders and it was starting to cause some rumours around the school. "I heard that his rabbit attacked one of them. You know, the one with the furry problem" whispered one student
"Will I heard that he accepted a date with lily" muttered another. With the rumours spreading (and becoming more ridiculous by the day) it was hard for any of the five to go anywhere without getting pounded on by the 5th year gossip girls: Makayla, Mary and Madison. These girls were also a part of the Marauders fan club which didn't help in the matter. This made them even more determined to find out what had happened and to put dirt on Lily's name. Why did James Potter have to like her of all people?
Lily and Remus were often nowhere to be found when someone went looking for them. Both put a very clever spell on that made you undetectable wherever you went, whoever came to find you. James was getting more and more jealous and it was getting harder for Sirius and Peter to calm him down. James hated anyone near Lily, Remus was an exception; a very rare exception. As James and Lily were head boy and girl they shared a common room with two dorms, the girls on the left and the boys on the right. They met up constantly for meetings but that was the only time he saw Lily, which was odd. He thought they were getting closer, that she liked him but boy was he wrong. It hurt. This really hurt him that the girl he loved would never love him back. He always knew that there was a chance but there was so much hope in him that the chance didn't change anything.
One night, a month since they had first talked. Lily and Remus met up for a 5th time. This time the meeting was more about talking than doing. "Lily"
"If you're going to…"
"Yes I am. Lily your breaking his heart the more you wait"
"I know, but-"
"No buts, you tell him by the end of the week or I am no longer doing this. And if that happens I can't guarantee on what will slip out" Remus smirked
"You wouldn't dare" Lily said, bright red and angry
"Huh" Remus scoffed "try me" he said, giving Lily a challenged look to tell her that he meant it.
"Fine. I have 5 days" Lily sighed
"No, you have 3 days"
"But its -"
"I meant by Friday. Lily he's one of my best friends, I can't watch him suffer anymore. And you made the mistake of letting me know that you like him too" Remus whispered gently
"Fine" Lily said harshly before walking out
James, Peter and Sirius were sat by the lake, watching the sun go down. "But I'm BOREDDDD" Sirius whinged,trying to get the attention of his best friends
"WE KNOW" yelled James and Peter
"Padfoot, we're all bored" Peter sighed
"Nut I'm EVEN MORE bored"
"What makes you special" asked James "we are all equally as bored". There was silence for a while until Sirius asked "I wonder what would happen if woman didn't get periods"
"That's the end of the human race" James said, rolling his eyes
"Seriously Padfoot, you could've asked about anything else but" Peter shuddered "that"
"don't let Lily hear you say that" James smirked
"But James… What would happen if we could have babies"
"You can't Padfoot, that's impossible"
"Prongs" exclaimed Padfoot dramatically "Why must you always crush my dreams?"
"Pfft as if, it's barley possible for me to get Lily"
"But Prongs they is actually impossible"Sirius chuckled
"Face it Prongs " Peter said "if she hasn't done something yet…"
"SHUT UP" James yelled
"P-Prongs, w-what" stammered Sirius. James had never yelled like this
"Doesn't matter" James brushed it off as if it was nothing. Sirius and Peter knew not to push but they would need to some day, they needed him to move on.
"PRONGS" yelled Remus as he was running down the hill
"What?!" growled an irritated James
"Come quick" Remus said, out of breath before running off, not giving them any time to ask questions. He was happy for James. Lily agreed to ask him but only if Remiss helped.
When James got to the Room of Requirement, lily was there. The room was empty which made Lily's nerves worse. "Lily what's??"
"James I need to talk to you"
"Ok, but we have a common room"
"I know" Lily smirked before waking closer to him. "I-I just wanted to…" she started nervously, not wanting him to push her away. "Screw it!!" she said exasperated before pulling on James's tie to kiss him. It scared Lily that James didn't react straight away, it took him a few seconds to kiss back. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer as if he needed reassurance that she would never pull away. Lily's arms snaked round his neck before she pulled away when she no longer had oxygen "I'm sorry" she said
"Sorry for what??"
"For not telling you sooner"
"Is ok" James smiled "I don't think I would've done it at all of I was you"
"Really?" Lily said in disbelief
"Really" James smirked "so… there's a Hogsmeade trip next weekend -"
"Yes James, I'll go with you"
"YES" James cheered as he leaped up in the air. "I've got to go" he said before running out of the room. He had to tell his friends. "GUYS GUYS WHAT HAPPENED"
"She accepted you didn't she" said Peter cautiously
"YES AND SHE KISSED ME. DID YOU HEAR THAT PADFOOT SHE KISSED ME"
"Yes Prongs, I heard" chuckled Sirius
"WOOOOOOOOO" James cheered again. His three friends chuckled at his childlike happiness. Normally Sirius was known as the childlike one, but they all knew that it was really James.
A week later everything had settled down. Everyone (well nearly everyone) was ecstatic at the news that lily and James were finally dating. When they walked into a great hall the next day, holding hands, there was a mixture of cheers, sighs and the exchanging galleons . Lily even saw some teachers exchange galleons which made her laugh. The day of Lily and Remus's surprise had come and neither could contain their excitement. They watched as James sat down in his normal space, not knowing the surprise what was about to unfold.
James sat down and began to eat his breakfast, unaware that whatever he ate would come up at every other plate in the great hall, apart from the Slytherins. The Slytherins got whatever James ate, thrown at their face. Soon a full blown food fight was started. Along with fireworks that took the shape of whatever anyone said and would follow them around the whole day, the more they said the worst it would be but instead of fireworks following James around, the more he talked the more he turned into a girl with a bright pink dress and long blonde hair. This made Lily, Remus, Peter and Sirius roll around on the floor with laughter, much to James's annoyance. Little did everyone know, this was just the beginning.
Whenever a class had potions the ingredients that needed to be used would all change to look the same, so no one would know which was which. In charms, whatever spell was cast majorly backfired on the person who cast it. In History of magic, whenever someone fell asleep a blow horn would go off, making the whole class jump. In Care of Magical Creatures, all the animals that were shown would turn a bright shade of pink and would dance around in their cage. The whole day was a genius piece of magic, but who caused it?
That might in the common room James had finally turned back to normal, but he was still furious. "Where's Wormy?" Remus asked
"Oh he said that he wanted to get to bed early" answered Sirius, rolling his eyes
"I rarely see him anymore" Lily commented
"He's wormy, he does his own thing as and when he wants" said James
"Back to today" Sirius said "whoever did the whole prank thing today is seriously skilled" remarked Sirius making Lily giggle. "Why thank you Sirius" said Lily and Remus together making James's mouth drop into a perfect 'o' shape. "You weren't really studying were you?" sighed Sirius
"Nope" Lily said with a grin. Both Sirius and James were shocked. James quickly recovered and picked Lily up, spun her around before putting her on the grounds again "I am so proud of you" He whispered, just loud enough for Lily to hear, before kissing her harder than ever before. "OI" Sirius yelled to try and get their attention but nothing worked. "Remus"
"Yeah"
"Cover your ears" Sirius warned before doing the loudest whistle he could, which worked as it got them to break apart "keep it PDA will you?"
"Sorry mate" James grinned
"But seriously, you did all of that??" Sirius asked again, still not believing that they actually did everything
"YES" Lily and Remus yelled exasperated, shocking both James and Sirius
"Well" Lily said breaking the silence "I should be going to bed, night" she hugged each one of them (kissing James of course) before walking up the stairs to her dorm. "You guys should best get going before Filch starts his rounds in this section"
"Must you do this to us Prongs?" Sirius asked dramatically "You leave us for your girlfriend, I thought we were closer than that but obviously not" exclaimed Sirius before walking out of the dorm
"Bye then" Remus chuckled, walking out behind Sirius.
All four went to sleep with a smile on their face that night, knowing that life would never get better than this.
