The dread! The dread!
Fine, it was not that terrible. However, for Kushina Uzumaki, it was quite worrisome at first.
Three months ago she was assigned to lead a B-ranked mission which mainly involved espionage, studying and collecting information on a recently discovered indigenous tribe that was inhabiting a cold unexplored mountainous area. Her son, Naruto, had come along too as her teammate.
The Hidden Leaf Village was interested in learning as much as they could about this group of people before assessing whether they could be a potential threat or a potential ally to the village. It had been decided that two ninjas would be sufficient for the task, but the two people who were to undertake this mission were not yet determined.
The plan was for these two ninjas to disguise as travelling merchants and be a "married couple" to draw away as much suspicion as possible. So it was decided that one of them had to be a male and the other a kunoichi, a female ninja.
Secondly, a jōnin had to lead this mission. However, all jōnins at the time were assigned to other missions, leaving Kushina as the only available jōnin to take the job. The problem was, in order to play the role of a married couple convincingly, her partner had to be someone who knew her intimately and she had to know that person well enough too. Minato Namikaze, as the Hokage, was unable to leave his post. That left only one other person suitable to be her partner for the mission, and that was her son, Naruto. As awkward as pretending to be her son's wife would be for the both of them, there was just no other male ninja that met the criteria.
Kushina and her husband, Minato, were not looking forward to how Naruto would react to this selection. He had just been promoted to chūnin. He usually had unrealistic expectations and knowing him, he was probably expecting his first mission as a chūnin to be S-ranked or at least A-ranked. On top of that, he was going on a mission with his mother as her "husband", which according to his tastes would be "super lame".
However, to their surprise, he did not complain about it nor demand for a tougher mission, which Kushina took as a sign of their son's growing maturity. He was now a chūnin after all.
As Kushina and Naruto jumped from tree to tree towards their destination, they covered all the details of their "marriage profile" like how long they had been married, how they met, etc. After a long time, they finally arrived at the foot of the mountain. Before they started the climb, Kushina turned to Naruto and said "There's one more thing we need to do."
"What's that?" Naruto asked.
"We should kiss."
"Kiss? Why?"
"Well we'll need to look comfortable kissing so we should practice before we go in."
"We've kissed each other a lot of times, it's no problem."
"No dummy. Not a mother son kiss, a wife husband kiss."
It had just occurred to Kushina in order to pretend she was his wife, she would actually have to pretend she was his wife, and that includes kissing and all.
"Can we?" He asked "Is it ok for us to.."
"It's fine," she interrupted "and we're going to have to if we're going to convince people. This is for the sake of the mission. Just relax."
They both turned to face each other and leaned in for a kiss. As soon as her lips touched Naruto's, her whole body tingled electrically. After a moment Kushina broke the kiss and they looked at each other smiling. It was just a little peck on the lips and yet it felt amazing.
"Wow, I never knew a kiss could feel like that." Naruto said.
"Um, yeah it was pretty good." Kushina said trying to play it cool. "Now let's go."
