New Daddy
Bakugou wanted to vomit.
He could feel it, rolling about in his stomach and threatening to come up any time he moved a single muscle. It didn't help that he couldn't stop the nervous bouncing of his right leg, sitting in a chair in a hospital waiting room. He couldn't stand this feeling of utter helplessness, only able to wait until a doctor or nurse came to get him.
What fucking luck, he cursed at himself, glaring at the pristine white floor. We're here for ten hours, and the instant I go home just go fucking get something, she has the baby. Now I can't even fucking go back there until she's done! He held his head in his hands, groaning in exhausted frustration. Damn it, I wanted to be in there.
It was such a frustrating feeling to miss the biggest moment, and he had argued with the doctors and nurses when he first got back to let him in. They had refused on grounds of contamination and the safety of everyone in the room, so he had been restricted to sitting alone, cursing at himself and suppressing his need to hurl.
Eventually, Bakugou stood and began to pace, his hands shoved in his pockets. He didn't care about the people staring at him and he ignored the incessant buzzing of his phone. His wife, Yuna, had posted on social media right before she was whisked away to give birth, so all of their friends were blowing up his phone with messages.
Annoyed, he only responded to a couple of them, the few he was still really close with from high school, as well as his parents, both biological and in-laws. Some were on their way to the hospital, way too excited to contain themselves. Bakugou didn't mind, actually kind of wishing someone was there already that he could rant to.
Suddenly, there was a tap on his shoulder and he jumped, whipping around to face the person who had touched him with a glare.
''What-!'' He paused when he saw it was a nurse, shock on her face at his violent reaction.
''Oh, I'm sorry!''
Bakugou shook his head, quickly calming as he reached up to ruin his fingers through his hair. ''No, I'm just all worked up, it's alright. What's going on? Is she done, is everything alright?''
The nurse smiled, nodding for him to follow as she turned and began to walk away. ''Please come with me, I'll take you to her now.''
Bakugou followed without any hesitation, wiping his sweaty palms on his pants. He nearly wanted to just ask what room and run ahead of the nurse, as she was walking at a casual pace that drove him nuts. He had been sitting in that damn waiting room for a good couple of hours, and he felt the need to berate the nurse on what took so damn long. Instead, he kept his mouth shut, hands in his pockets and lump in his throat.
They finally arrived to a closed door, the nurse smiling up at him. ''This will be the room your wife is staying in until she is released. She has requested that the baby stay in the room at all times with her, so we will be checking in frequently. After visiting for a little while, a doctor is going to come in and talk to you both. All in all, everything went well and they are both perfectly fine, so you don't need to worry. Are you okay?''
Bakugou nodded, assuming he must have looked like shit for her to ask him that. He swallowed the lump in his throat as the nurse opened the door to allow him in.
After a few deep breaths, Bakugou headed inside, pulling back the curtain that was drawn around the door for more privacy just enough to peek inside. He felt his stomach flutter violently at the sight of Yuna propped up on the bed, a small bundle held tightly to her chest.
She looked like she was glowing, gentle smile on her face as she hummed and cooed to the baby softly. Though, she noticed the movement of the curtain and looked up, smile growing as she noticed him.
''Katsuki! What are you doing, come over here!'' She spoke in an excited, yet hushed voice, and he assumed the child must have been asleep.
Feeling the heat rushing to his ears, he headed over to the bed, making sure the curtain stayed shut. Holding the child with one arm, Yuna patted a space on the edge of the bed that had enough room for him to sit. Bakugou did so carefully, first leaning over to kiss her softly and run his fingers through her hair.
''I'm sorry I wasn't here. It's like she was waiting for me to leave before she decided she wanted to come out.''
Yuna giggled softly, using one hand to stroke his cheek. ''It's okay, Katsuki… I hope that you weren't too worried.''
''I was freaking the fuck out.'' Bakugou finally turned his gaze to the child, his stomach twisting into knots as he looked at his daughter's sleeping face. A smile crossed his lips, reaching forward to gently run a finger along the back of the child's hand.
"Damn… She's beautiful, babe. You did good.'' She gave a small shake of her head, adjusting the baby in her arms a bit.
''Nah, she got her looks from you. I'm telling you, she's going to be your little female clone. She has ash blonde hair under that beanie and fiery red eyes, too.''
Bakugou continued to rub the tiny hand gently, smile only growing. ''Not true. It's all you.''
Carefully, Yuna turned the child in her hands, holding her out towards Bakugou.
''Here.''
Bakugou glanced from the now wiggling figure to Yuna's face nervously, before he gently took the bundle. ''Ah... okay.''
He handled the tiny body with extreme care, attempting to mimic the way she had been holding her and what he learned at those weird pregnancy classes he had gone to.
He had held a fake baby then, but this was completely different. This was his daughter, his own flesh and blood, what could be his legacy he leaves behind in this world. Though, the instant his little legacy began to cry, he couldn't help but to visibly panic. ''Uh-''
Yuna rested a hand on his arm gently, giving him a comforting, calming smile. ''It's okay. Want me to take her back?''
Bakugou hesitated for a moment before he shook his head, deciding to stand as he felt more comfortable and like he had more control.
''No, let me try.''
As he paced around the room a bit, he very carefully bounced the child lightly in his arms, humming and speaking in a low, soft voice to try and sooth her.
''Shh… It's alright, kiddo. I'm your dad.''
He chanced a glance at Yuna, though he immediately felt his face flush with heat in embarrassment at the teary-eyed way she was watching him. He turned his back to her, deciding to stop his pacing and stand in place.
As the child began to calm, Bakugou gently rubbed the back of her tiny hand with his finger, smile returning to his face as the child gripped onto it. As he looked the tiny human over, he felt that strange, unfamiliar burning at the back of his throat. He tried to swallow it away, but it only came back up as a hitch in his breath, the burning moving to his eyes.
Stubborn, he refused to let the tears fall, the smile returned to his face as his child looked up at him before yawning. He was overwhelmed with the feeling of unconditional love for his daughter, something he had only ever experienced with his wife.
''Go back to sleep, squirt… I got you.''
