F.O.W.L
An organization that spent most of the time in the shadows, and was cruel and deceptive to anyone they came across. Gandra Dee was one of these agents, and throughout her time with F.O.W.L she obeyed them without question. Went in the mission, got it done, and came back for more. It was just the same story every time.
Until she met Gizmoduck.
She was supposed to be helping Mark Beaks get some passcode, so she could get recourses that would most likely be used for F.O.W.L's future plans. To her, it was just any other mission.
How wrong she was.
Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera was nothing like she expected. He wasn't some egotistic hero who thought he was better than anyone else and hated criminals. No, he was a dorky, thoughtful, and smart scientist. Who just wanted to help others, and his work was incredibly admirable. Ever since that day, she could only think about how much of Fenton she got to know.
Now she was questioning everything.
She kept this to herself of course, in F.O.W.L, you either had loyalty or you didn't. If you showed any sign of betrayal, then you were considered dead. Gandra had no trouble keeping up the ruse, but soon found it harder and harder as days in F.O.W.L seemed to drag on longer than the next.
Had they always been this depressing?
Gandra didn't have any reason to fight the Duck Family, heck, Huey and Webby seemed like good kids. Gandra suddenly felt sick to her stomach when she and the other members of F.O.W.L spied on them through a mosquito camera. No longer did she see the enemy, but a family who care for each other. She swallowed, attempting to get the vile taste out of her mouth.
It didn't work.
Gandra laid down on her bed, staring blankly at her ceiling. She was thinking hard about her options on what she could do with her life. The easy path was to just continue to serve F.O.W.L blindly.
But, IF she managed to sneak their information to the Duck Family, and IF they believed her claims, and IF she wasn't caught by F.O.W.L, and IF she earned the Duck Family's trust, then maybe she could live a much better life, one were she could just work as a scientist.
All one big IF.
Gandra took a deep breath before sighing and attempted to relaxed. Yes, there were simply too many variables that didn't work in her favor if she actually considered betraying F.O.W.L. It was easier to just simply go along with what F.O.W.L asked of her, and nothing more. Gandra rubbed her head and paused for a moment before looking at her fingerless glove. She took it off and saw her nanite circuits.
Since when did she take the easy route?
When the base was quiet, and everyone was either gone or asleep, Gandra snuck down to the computer room. Where the database for all of F.O.W.L was. Technically, it wasn't sneaking, since as of right now, everyone believed that she was just another loyal servant. Though Gandra remained on edge throughout the entire walk. She had a small backpack on, it contained a few items that would most likely be helpful in this situation. There was also her phone that was tightly in her grip. She finally made her way inside and quickly stuck a flash drive into the computer. A few types later, the information was beginning to download itself.
"Come on, come on." Gandra muttered, tapping her foot impatiently.
Before long, the data was on the drive and she quickly grabbed it, and stuffed the drive in her backpack, before rushing out of the room. She didn't dare look back and kept going. She slowed down and started controlling her walk. It was too suspicious run, she needed to walk for now. Just a few more turns, and she was out. Then her life all depended on how everyone reacted.
"Hey Dee! Where are you off too?" An unwelcoming voice asked. Gandra stopped in place and gritted her teeth in annoyance. She took a breath and turned around.
"What's it to you, Steelbeak?" Gandra asked, not keeping the annoyance out of her tone.
"It's a Friday night, a girl like you shouldn't be going out alone. How about I take you out for a nice time?" Steelbeak asked slyly and Gandra bit her tongue to keep from groaning in annoyance.
"Nice try, but your a wanted criminal and can't just waltz into town." Gandra deadpanned and turned to walk away.
"Oh, and I thought you DIDN'T want the High Command to know that you just made an unauthorized visit to the F.O.W.L central computer." Steelbeak smirked and Gandra froze in place. Her heart started to pump quicker, but she ignored it as she scoffed.
"So? I'm allowed in there, aren't I?" Gandra huffed.
"Oh, so I suppose it won't be a problem if I just, have a look in your bag!" Steelbeak grabbed Gandra's bad rather rough, and she whipped her hand around, taking off her glove before shocking Steelbeak in the chest.
"GAH!" He stumbled backwards and Gandra broke out into a sprint, heading to the doors and flung them open before rushing into the city of Duckburg. Gandra huffed as thunder sounded. Of course it was gonna ran, of course! Another boom rang out, but it wasn't thunder.
BANG!
Gandra cried out in agony and gripped her right shoulder in pain. She then looked at her left hand. Blood was stained on her other glove. She clenched her jaw and quickly got her footing once more.
"You can't out run me that easily Dee!" Steelbeak cried from the rain and Gandra merely growled before she rushed off, adrenaline still flowing in her veins.
Her heart was going a mile a minute as she ran in the cold rain, panting heavily she stumbled down and barely managed to crawl into a dark alleyway despite her injury. Footsteps coming closer, she pulled out her now cracked phone and dialed a number. It rang before someone picked up.
"Fenton? I can't talk for long...but...I..."
"Gandra? Is that you?" Of course he had to cut her off! That wasn't gonna help.
"LISTEN! I...I won't last much longer, but you gotta want them...the board...they can't be trusted!" Gandra wheezed and started coughing, the pain finally getting to her and footsteps were getting closer.
"Gandra, slow down! Where are you?" Fenton asked worriedly and Gandra winced in pain. She was slumped against the back of an alleyway with her left hand gripping on her right shoulder as her right hand was barely holding onto her phone. Not to mention the pouring rain was freezing. Suddenly Gandra's phone was ripped from her grasp and crushed in Steelbeak's hand.
"Trying to call your metal boyfriend?" Steelbeak taunted, tossing away the broke phone and drawling his gun.
"What, are you gonna kill me now? Go ahead, Gizmoduck is smart enough to understand what I told him. He'll figure everything out." Gandra spat.
"Are you sure about that?" Steelbeak asked, smirking all knowingly. Gandra didn't dare show her doubt, she had to believe that Fenton understood her warning, he created a whole new element for crying out loud! He would figure it out.
"Killing me will only confirm his suspicions." Gandra said cooly, trying not to wince in pain, due to her shoulder. She was loosing a lot of blood, so even if Steelbeak wasn't going to shoot her, the loose of blood would.
"Well then I'll have to make sure you're never found." Steelbeak shrugged and cocked the gun.
"Farewell, Gandra Dee."
Gandra glared up at her former fellow agent. Lighting struck from behind him as the thunder echoed through the city. She knew this was a possibility, but she did this anyway. Gandra was never one to shy away from risks or danger, and instead of being fearful, she looked straight into Steelbeak's eyes.
She was going to die.
Gizmoduck often patrolled the city right before a storm, making sure people knew it was coming, warned them to stay inside. That kind of thing. Gyro's weather machine had predicted the storm earlier that day, and it was just about here. Gizmoduck was thankful it didn't have to do with a villain this time. Once the streets seemed clear, he was about to head back to the safety of his own home when his helmet buzzed.
Someone was calling him, one of the many features that he enjoyed about his suit. He couldn't carry a phone around while wearing the suit, it just wasn't practical. Huey often called him during times when he was on patrol. Though he didn't think it was Huey, they had just talked earlier. Gizmoduck mentally answered the call, stopping the ringing, and before he could even speak, a familiar voice spoke through.
"Fenton? I can't talk for long...but...I..." It was Gandra! Something seemed off though, she didn't sound like her usually self, of course Fenton hasn't heard from her since their first date. He was glad to hear from here, but he couldn't shake the nagging thought that she didn't sound alright.
"Gandra? Is that you?" Fenton mentally slapped himself, he already knew that! He should have asked if she was alright! Or maybe ask how's she's been! There was an alien invasion recently after all, he didn't see her then, so he could have asked if she was okay!
"LISTEN! I...I won't last much longer, but you gotta want them...the board...they can't be trusted!" Her voice cut off his thoughts and he felt his blood run cold.
'Not last much longer?, 'Board can's be trusted?' What did any of that mean!? Gizmoduck knew that this wasn't a good sign and Gandra could be in some serious trouble right now. He had to take action!
"Gandra, slow down! Where are you?" He asked, and his visor lit up and showed a map of Duckburg, creating a path from where he was to where the call was coming from!
"I have your location! I'll be right there!" Gizmoduck said quickly, but he didn't hear a response.
"Gandra? GANDRA?!"
Without wasting another second, Gizmoduck sped off through the streets, the highlighted path in his visor getting shorter and shorter. When he finally came upon an alleyway he turned to see a rooster pointing a gun at a slumped figure. It took two seconds for him to guess who it was.
"NO!" He screamed, Steelbeak was then distracted and turned his head, only to have Gizmoduck grab him by the collar and slam him against the buildings wall, causing him to drop his gun. He grunted in pain and noticed just who had attacked him.\
"Well of it isn't Gizmo-dork? Come to show me a circus act?" He taunted and Gizmoduck clenched his teeth.
"You're under arrest." He growled, not in the mood for puns or one-liners at the moment. Steelbeak merely chuckled.
"Fine, you can take me in, or you can save your girlfriend from bleeding out." He laughed.
Wait what?
Gizmoduck then turned to see Gandra leaning against a wall, her breathes were becoming shallow and she was clutching her right shoulder with blood seeping out from between her fingers. Gizmoduck dropped Steelbeak and went over to Gandra, bending down and reaching his arms out.
"Gandra! Oh nononono!" He murmured and his visor lifted up, allowing his eyes to become visible to her. She looked up at him, blue eyes becoming glassy and coughed before managing to speak.
"S-suit?" She rasped and Fenton nodded.
"Yeah, I'm here, just stay with me. You're gonna be okay!" He assured her and quickly lifted her off the ground.
"So...tired..." She groaned and her eyelids got heavy. Fenton turned, seeing that Steelbeak was long gone. He brushed it aside, he didn't have time to worry about that right now. Gandra needed his help, and he didn't have anytime to waste.
"I know your tired, but you gotta stay awake for a little while longer." Fenton said urgently as she sped off the the hospital. Gandra cough and shivered in the rain and felt her eyelids slowly close.
"...awake...Gandra...stay..." Fenton's voice began distant and inaudible as she went limp.
Darkness sweeping over her.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
The classic sound someone here's when they wake up from a near death experience in the hospital. Gandra groaned and slowly opened her eyes. This wasn't her room, it was way too bright, also she didn't have a monitor hooked up to her when she slept.
That's when she realized why exactly she wasn't in her room, she had gotten shot in the shoulder in an alleyway by Steelbeak! Gandra gasped and shot up from her bed in a panic, but immediately regretted it since her right shoulder, now in a sling, suddenly became very painful and too much of a burden.
"AH! Why!?" She groaned and plopped back down on her bed.
"GANDRA!" She turned to see Fenton, who seemingly woke up from the chairs, and stumbled before falling flat on his face and shot up before rushing to her bedside.
"A-are you okay? How do you feel? Do you need anything?" He asked quickly, his eyes darting from the monitor to her as he asked. She groaned and attempted to shift herself so she would have a better view of him.
"Ah! No, no don't get up!" Fenton then gently eased her back down on the pillow Gandra sighed and turned her head and tried to muster up the memories, but she had no idea how exactly she managed to get to the hospital, got into a hospital gown, or got a sling on and hooked up to a monitor.
"What...what happened?" She croaked out and Fenton looked down nervously.
"How much do you remember?" He asked and Gandra wracked her brain for a moment before answering.
"The last thing, I think happened, was you carrying me and...everything is a blur from there." She answered and Fenton swallowed thin air, clenching his fists.
"You...you went into surgery...the bullet didn't hit anything vital, thank goodness, but it did some bad muscle damage. You've lost quite a bit of blood too, so you got a transfusion. They managed to get the bullet out after a couple hours, and you've been out ever since." Fenton explained and Gandra nodded.
"Okay..." She said, not knowing what else to say and Fenton's eyes widened and he suddenly frowned. '
"Okay? OKAY?! Gandra, you were SHOT and could have died! Nothing about this is okay! Who did this to you? Why were the after you?!" Fenton exclaimed in anger, something Gandra wasn't too happy about seeing. Sure he was anger after Beaks revealed himself and ripped apart his suit, but this time the anger wasn't directed at her.
He was angry about what happened to her, not what she did.
"Look it hasn't been an easy night or day, or whatever the heck time it is right now! If you knew the truth about what happened you wouldn't have even saved me! I'm a crook, remember!?" She spat and attempted to sit up in annoyance but the dang pain wouldn't let her and she fell back in frustration. Fenton's eyes widened and he hesitated for a moment but reached out and placed his hand over hers.
"Gandra...I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you like that." He apologized and Gandra's gaze softened. "And don't say I shouldn't have saved you, I'd do it again in a heart beat, you're my friend."
"Do you really believe that?" Gandra asked Fenton was taken aback by this.
"What? What do you mean?" He questioned and Gandra craned her neck slightly, looking for her backpack, but it was nowhere to be seem.
"Where's my bag? It wasn't left in the alleyway was it?" She asked and Fenton raised his eyebrow in confusion.
"Uh no, I gave it to Gyro. He thought there was something in there that could help track down the guy who...who shot you..." Fenton explained and Gandra sighed.
"Fenton...I'm an agent, well former agent of F.O.W.L." She admitted and Fenton's eyes widened in horror, but said nothing.
"I betrayed them last night, I was planning on taking most of their data and bailing. Steelbeak caught me and attempted to silence me...I called you so you could warn the Duck family, and I'm guessing Gyro had taken my flash drive and figured all of this out, plus more. So that's why I was shot, it wasn't some petty thief, it was me betraying an agency I had originally sweared my loyalty to. Fenton, I knew this would happen, when you betray people like F.O.W.L, someone always gets hurt." Gandra explained and turned her head away from Fenton, unable to face him.
"Why...why did you do it then?" He asked, Gandra's eyes widened and turned back to Fenton, who's face was confused, not angry. She looked at him for a long moment before sighing.
"If I'm being honest, it was because of you."
"Me?"
"Yeah, ever since our first date I...I didn't see everything as I should have. I started questioning what I was doing, and it has only gotten more and more overwhelming. So, I decided to betray F.O.W.L and risk you hating me for the rest of my life instead of staying with them. Honestly I'm surprised I made it out the front door." Gandra chuckled at the last bit, but cut herself off when Fenton lifted her hand into both of his, despite her gloves missing.
"Gandra I...I can't hate you...you risked your life even though you thought it wouldn't work...that...that was amazing of you." Fenton then pulled her into a gentle hug. Gandra gave a slight wince, but found herself returning the hug with her good arm.
"Thanks..." She muttered and Fenton realized the hug, suddenly become very flushed.
"Can I...ahem...can I get you anything?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"I could go for some water, if that's okay." She replied.
"Okay! I'll go get some, be right back!" Fenton turned to leave but Gandra stopped him.
"Fenton wait!" He stopped and turned, his hand on the knob.
"...don't stay out too long..." Gandra replied, she couldn't say she was scared, she wasn't, she would just feel better if he was with her.
"Okay don't worry, like I said, I'll be right back!"
"I'm not worried."
"Good." Fenton opened the door and left, rushing down the hall.
Gandra leaned back into the bed before turning towards the window, the sun was high in the sky so it was probably mid-morning, maybe later. She gazed at the sun before cracking a small smile in her beak and turned back to the ceiling. In a couple hours her whole life had changed, and it wasn't and easy one. Now she still had to deal with the backlash of her decision, but Fenton made her realize that she would not have to deal with it alone.
There was a war coming, and she was gonna fight.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
WHO LOVED THE SEASON 3 PREMIERE?! I DID! IT WAS AWESOME!
Now whose excited for the rest for season 3? *imagining several hands going up in a crowd* Yep, that's what I thought!
I've been wanting to do a FentonxGandra story for quite sometime, and I wrote this intending for it to be a one-shot, but who knows? It you all want an extra scene or two, I may be willing to write one. Since season 3 is here, I don't intend on writing a full story.
I do have a plan for my own Ducktales story in the future, but I wanna focus on my other works for a bit. We'll see how life works out.
Anyway, please review and let me know what you guys thought! I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did writing it!
