Chapter 1
He had been in the situation countless times before. Sitting in the same worn down creaky chair, goosebumps on his arms from the draft, despite there being no window, and the constant drips of water leaking from the ceiling due to the constant rain, having a stare down with Pein. Every time this happens. He gets assigned a new partner, they annoy him, he kills them. He could tell Pein was fed up with his short fuse. He decided to break the silence himself. He didn't want to be here all day. He had money to count.
"I told you. I don't need-" Pein cut him off, anger in his voice as he spoke.
"Kakuzu I didn't bring you here for you to spit a childish "I told you so" at me." He paused as he pulled out a file from his desk and threw it towards Kakuzu. He caught it not bothering to open it, he knew the words that were going to come out the leaders mouth and he was already pissed about it.
"You have another mission effective immediately."
"Tomorrow morning. I just got back from the last mission and I have money to count." He bit back as calmly as he could muster.
"Immediately and if you fail, I'll kill you." Pein didn't wait for a response as he walked towards the door, opening it. Kakuzu was seething, he tried to calm himself before he did something stupid. At least he would be able to do this mission alone, he started to feel himself somewhat calm down at the thought. Until he heard Pein.
"Come in." As Pein walked back toward his desk a figure followed suit. Kakuzu didn't want to look at the person, he stubbornly kept his eyes straight as they took a seat next to him. Red. He was seeing fucking red. A new partner already? How many members did he have to kill to get his point across.
"Kakuzu, this is Amaya, and before you rip her head off, no she's not your new partner." Kakuzu turned to look at this girl. She was average height, pale, dirty blonde hair that was french braided that rested on her right shoulder the length stopping around her ribcage. He noted how thin she was, some muscle peeked through, nothing impressive. She wore standard ninja attire that didn't suit her. She looked like she had never even thought of committing a crime, angelic and gentle. It was like she was playing dress up. He almost felt bad for her and that pissed him off. Her eyes though, they were an arctic blue with a navy ring around them, it was almost like they were a deep ocean that he could get lost in...more like drown in. He snapped himself from those thoughts as he forced himself to stare at the wood on Pein's desk. Screw this useless bitch, why the fuck was she here if she wasnt his new partner?
"She's the mission."
Kakuzu tried not to remember that day. Or any of the following days with that girl. It was 8 years ago, so much has happened since then. He even got a new partner, Hidan. Pein had finally found a solution to Kakuzu's member murdering issue. Although Kakuzu still tries to kill him. He doesn't believe this asshole is actually immortal. But every so often, when Hidan wasn't chewing his ear off, he would find himself reminiscing. Her beautiful angelic smile, those deep ocean eyes, and the way she looked at him... like he was the only person who could save her. Every time he would think of her it would make his hearts beat faster… and his stomach lurch.. It was his second biggest failure in his life. He can't seem to wash the blood off his hands for this one.
