I've been feeling a bit fluffy lately and this idea came to me after the Digimon Fusion episode "Laughing All The Way To The Code Crown".
Digimon Fusion belongs to Saban (who were bought out by Hasbro). I own nothing. Will contain spoilers for the show.
Laughter Really Is Good Medicine
Karatenmon watched as the Fusion Fighters defeated the enemies and saved the princess of the Warrior Zone and he chuckled as Jeremy was still running from the princess who had a crush on him. He then noticed Nene, the girl who had been responsible for coming up with the jokes that made him laugh. He then saw Wisemon come out and go up to the girl, who looked a bit worried, but then relaxed as he said something that made her smile.
As he watched the Fusion Fighters decide to stay one more night before heading off to the next zone, he approached Wisemon, who sensed him and looked up. "Oh, Karatenmon," he said. "Can we help you?"
"What do you know of the girl with the brown hair?" The former owner of the code crown asked.
"Not much, except she is fighting for her brother's freedom," the robed Digimon said. "It seems she is serious much of the time, but as we saw, she can be funny when she wants to be."
"Yes, she can be," Karatenmon nodded in agreement, seeing Nene go for a walk by herself. "I think I'd like to personally speak to her."
With that, he followed the girl while Wisemon chuckled, turning to the others who were celebrating their recent victory over the Bagra Army. He put a hand on Mikey's shoulder. "If you and your team keep winning these battles, you just might win the war," he said.
"I thought you said all data pointed to Lord Bagra winning?" Mikey said to him.
"All data I had gathered, yes," Wisemon said. "But it seems there is more data to collect for my research." He looked at the boy. "Besides, I am hoping that you will succeed. It'll make for not only good research, but also a good story of how the Digital World was saved by a brave, open-minded human."
Mikey smiled at him. "That means you can't disassemble me," he said playfully.
The robed Digimon poked the boy's sides playfully. "True, but that doesn't mean I can't learn more about humans," he said playfully as the boy tried to escape the tickle torture.
Nene sighed as she continued walking. "If only freeing my brother was as easy as helping the queen of this zone," she said softly, a few tears coming to her eyes as she paused for a moment.
"That would explain why you're so serious," came a familiar voice and she turned to find Karatenmon behind her and he was looking at her. "A quest to free someone close to you."
"Yes," she said. "But...he's trapped and I don't know exactly where he is."
The winged Digimon listened closely. "But you know who has him," he said.
"AxeKnightmon," the girl said, grimacing as if the name left a bad taste in her mouth. "I was under his control for the longest time until Mikey and Sparrowmon rescued me."
"I've heard of AxeKnightmon," Karatenmon said, his eyes closing in thought. "That is one evil Digimon that the Digital World would be better off without."
Nene nodded softly. "Mikey is determined to fight against the whole Bagra Army to free all the Digimon from Lord Bagra and AxeKnightmon," she said. "I still wonder if he's crazy or brave."
"Sometimes craziness and bravery help win a battle," the winged Digimon said before chuckling. "I've heard about the battles of the boy with the red Fusion loader. He is very brave and open-minded."
The girl nodded again. "Yes, he is," she said. "It's hard not to be affected by his enthusiasm because he's so upbeat."
Karatenmon smiled. "It sounds like you could use some of that enthusiasm," he said. "You know the battles to find your brother and free him will not be easy."
"No, they won't be, but I won't give up until he's free," Nene said, a note of protectiveness in her voice.
He nodded before smiling again. "You know, there's another reason that those who sought this zone's code crown had to make the owner of it laugh," he said.
The girl looked curious. "I thought the reason was to prove our worth?" She asked.
"That's one reason," he said. "But the other reason is that laughter really is good medicine."
Nene nodded in agreement. "That's what a lot of people say," she said softly before squeaking as large hands rested on her sides and fingers gently poked her lower ribs. A giggle escaped her and she squirmed, only to hear Karatenmon chuckle.
"And you could use some laughter right now," he said, pulling her closer to him. "As not only a reward for making me laugh, but to help you not be so bleak about the upcoming battles."
The girl squirmed again, squeaking when fingers continued gently poking her ribs before fingers wiggled into her sides, making her giggles grow louder. "Ah, so you can laugh aloud," Karatenmon said teasingly.
"Heeheeheehee! Stohohohohop!" She pleaded through her giggles.
"Begging already?" He asked teasingly. "Just for that, you're going to get it."
With that, his hands moved to her stomach and began tickling her there. Nene's giggles because laughter right then and a squeal escaped her when a raspberry was blown into her neck. "AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOHOHOHOHOHOHO!" She pleaded.
Karatenmon chuckled. "Cootchie, cootchie, coo!" He cooed. "I didn't know humans could be so ticklish."
Nene laughed harder as the winged Digimon's fingers continued tickling her and she squirmed, but that only seemed to make it worse as her captor chuckled and blew more raspberries into her neck. "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! STOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOP!" She pleaded with him again.
"Perhaps I will if you agree to be more upbeat," he said, stopping the tickle torture to let her catch her breath before he scooped her up into his arms. "If you continue to stay bleak, then you might lose hope for your brother."
Though he said this gently, it hit Nene like a ton of bricks. "I can't give up on my brother," she said.
Karatenmon nodded. "But to do that, you must be positive," he said gently. "Being positive will help you not lose hope."
Nene began to realize how Mikey stayed upbeat. "Mikey holds onto hope and stays positive to do so," she said.
"It's good for team morale too," the winged Digimon said. "I see you all have gained many allies as a result."
She nodded before looking up at him. "Do you think we might win?" She asked.
"Keep positive and hold onto hope and you'll win," Karatenmon said encouragingly. "Right now, I believe I hear Mikey looking for you."
He gently set the girl down on her feet and smiled at her. "Good luck, Nene," he said before flying away.
"Thanks, Karatenmon," she said softly, waving to him before turning to find Mikey and Cutemon coming out of the bushes.
"Nene! There you are," Mikey said in relief. "We were wondering where you had gone off to."
"Are you okay?" Cutemon asked.
Nene smiled. "I'm okay," she said. "Mikey...thanks."
He looked confused. "For what?" He asked.
"For everything," she said. "But mostly, for not giving up on me."
The boy smiled. "Giving up isn't part of my vocabulary," he said.
She giggled. "That's true," she said before her stomach growled, making her blush a bit.
"Oh, that reminds me, there's a feast waiting for us," Mikey said, holding out his hand to Nene. "Come on."
Smiling, she took his hand and as they headed back to the feast, the girl was grateful to have a friend like Mikey, who gave her hope that one day, she and her brother would be reunited again.
