Chapter 1
"It's me, Theodore 'The Beaver' Cleaver. Families come in different sizes, and a lot of times, they grow. Sometimes when they grow, a family's life seems to change dramatically and become unfamiliar. Though change can be a bad thing, it can also be a good thing. That's the lesson on today's story of 'The Cleavers'."
Kyle sat in the kitchen making breakfast. Kevin and Kylie ran downstairs.
"Do I smell sausage?" Kevin asked.
"You sure do," Kyle replied.
"And pancakes?" Kylie asked.
"Yep," Kyle replied.
"And you're also making waffles?" Kevin asked.
"I sure am," Kyle replied.
"Oh no," Kylie said. "Grandpa died."
"No," Kyle said. "But I do have something to talk to you two about."
"Grandpa Beaver died?" Kevin asked.
"No," Kyle replied.
"Was it…" Kylie started to ask before Kyle cut her off.
"No one died," Kyle said.
"Then what's the news?" Kevin asked.
"You're cousin Kaleb is coming to stay with us," Kyle replied. "Cousin Kelly and Duffy got a new job in New York, and I offered to take him in so he could finish out high school."
"Isn't Kaleb going to be a junior?" Kylie asked.
"Yes," Kyle replied.
"You're letting out 16-year-old cousin movie in with us for two years?" Kevin asked.
"Yes," Kyle replied.
"No," Kevin and Kylie said. "We object."
Kyle laughed.
"You actually think you get a choice," Kyle laughed.
"Where is he going to sleep?" Kevin asked.
"In the guestroom," Kyle replied.
"Well, when is he going to get here?" Kylie asked.
The doorbell rang.
"Right now," Kyle replied.
Later, Kaleb unpacked his belongings in his new room. Kyle walked into the room.
"Is this room okay?" Kyle asked.
"It's perfect," Kaleb replied.
"So your mother told me that you're not going to be a camp counselor this year," Kyle said.
"Nope," Kaleb replied. "I'm going to be working at the country club."
"I remember when I was 16 and working at the country club," Kyle said. "I also had a baby to support at 16."
"Yeah," Kaleb said. "I remember."
Kevin walked into the room.
"Dad," Kevin said. "We have to go or we'll be late."
"Oh yeah," Kyle said. "We have to get there early if we want good seats."
"Where are you going?" Kaleb asked.
"Kevin and I like to go watch the baseball games at the field," Kyle replied. "Do you want to come?"
Kevin's eyes got wide.
"I'd love to," Kaleb replied. "Let's go."
Kaleb and Kyle walked out of the room and Kevin stood there.
"But that's our thing," Kevin said.
