A/N: I thought I was done with oneshots from Kristen Verne's KH universe. But this was I just couldn't keep out of my head. Not much in terms of story, just action and a bit of fluff, and that's about it. Not really much impact on the universe as a whole, but something I wanted to write just for fun.
Battle of the Dragons
Captain Sasuke Kazekiri gazed at the full moon, reminiscing about the past.
It's hard to believe it had been two months since Xehanort's defeat. That man had been the cause of so much pain and suffering. His master, Kaname Mae, and his wife, Princess Rimi, were dead because of him. Radiant Garden spent more than ten years in ruin. Only recently had the kingdom started thriving again. The only major problem they had faced was the rampage of a large vampire like Heartless called the Monuca that proved very hard to kill, but they managed. But now with Xehanort dead, they could finally relax and enjoy the peace.
Part of Sasuke wished things didn't happen the way they did, that Xehanort never caused so much suffering. But when he considered all the good things that came out of it, he couldn't bring himself to wish for anything to be different. After all, his master's daughter, Kairi, had found her soulmate because of this, and he himself had finally gotten the chance to meet his late father. And at the end of the day, everyone who survived had come out all the stronger. What more could he ask for?
He then looked down at the items he held in his hands. One was an old green scarf that he had worn during his travels, and the other was a trinket that had an image of a curved sword on a purple background. Both of these were gifts given by someone special to him that he met in the aftermath of his kingdom's fall. One who was yet another reason why he wouldn't dream of changing the past. And also someone he hadn't seen in a while, not since he was appointed captain.
He let out a sigh. "I wonder how you and the others are doing," he said as he looked back up at the moon. Something was tugging on his heart as he gazed at it, a strange feeling that fortune would smile on him soon. What was the source of this feeling? He honestly wasn't sure.
The next day, on the outskirts of Radiant Garden, a cloaked man stood at the entrance of a large cave. Inside the darkness three pairs of soulless yellow eyes shined through. The man grinned in delight.
"After two months of hard work, they're finally ready. That pathetic kingdom could barely handle one large heartless. Let's see how those fools handle three. Look out, Kazekiri! Your loyalist ideals won't save you or your kingdom this time!"
He then turned to the outside.
"Now! Make mince meat out of Radiant Garden!"
Sasuke was at the castle gates with Lea and Isa, taking a break from guard duty. Kairi and her boyfriend, Sora, were visiting from their islands and decided to have a few sparring rounds. Right now the young couple were tag-teaming against the guard captain. Sasuke found himself quite impressed with how well the two work together. They compliment each other quite seamlessly. The young Keyblade wielders were really making the older more experienced swordsman actually work up a sweat. He was even more impressed at how well Sora was utilizing Master Kaname's katana, Dawn's Might, with his own Key to the Kingdom(1) Keyblade.
Soon they decided to end the spar, as Sasuke shouldered his Moon Cutter. "Very impressive!" he said. "You two definitely make a great team."
Sora smirked as he rubbed his nose. "Like there was any doubt."
Kairi giggled. "It helps to have a strong connection to your partner."
"No kidding!" said Lea. "Those two have become so inseparable it's no wonder they're so in synch in battle."
"And you have to admit," added Isa, "they both have each gotten stronger by themselves too."
"No doubt about that," said the captain. "Kairi definitely inherited her father's fighting spirit. And Sora is making great use of Dawn's Might. A perfect match."
"Oh, stop it!" Kairi said teasingly. Every took a moment to share a laugh with each other. "You know Sasuke, there's something I keep forgetting to ask. What exactly happened to you after the fall? I know Lea and Isa got their hearts extracted by Xehanort, but what about you?"
Sasuke looked up at the sky. "Well, after I found your parent's bodies, I confronted Xehanort, only for him to toss me into a dark portal, intending to let me wander in darkness and wallow in despair. I was falling into the darkness, but lucky for me I was saved before I could sink too deeply."
"Who saved you?" asked Lea.
"An eidolon who had mastery over darkness. He brought me to a world called the Land of Twin Moons, named as such for the fact that it had two moons." Sasuke then sighed. "Not gonna lie, when I first arrived I was in a rut. I was stuck on an unfamiliar world, my mother was dead, my master was dead, and I had no idea what happened to any of my friends."
Kairi looked down. "I'm sorry you had to go through that."
The captain then smiled. "But then I met some good people who helped me find myself again. I went on many adventures with them. I helped rescue children, heck the first one was how I got this scar. I witnessed a dark knight convert into a paladin. And I even got to explore one of the moons if you can believe that."
"Sounds like you had quite the fun experience," said Sora.
"It wasn't all fun and games. There was plenty of trials and tribulations, trust me on that. And it didn't help that Xigbar was there contributing to the mayhem that was already going on, as well as trying to kill me every chance he got. But despite the hardships I had to endure, in the end it all only made me stronger. Honestly, if weren't for the friends I made on that world, and the adventures I had with them, I don't know if I ever would've found the fire to keep on fighting again."
"And thank goodness for that," said Lea. "Otherwise we wouldn't have the perfect successor to the previous captain of the guard." Everyone shared a laugh at that.
"Yeah, and after getting my hands on a Star Shard I started traveling to other worlds, expanding my horizons, learning new things, helping others when I can, and most importantly trying to find my missing friends. Although, it would take almost ten years before I would find one of them, and not in a very pleasant state."
Isa sighed. "Sorry about that!"
"But anyway, out of all the worlds I had been to in my travels, the Land of Twin Moons was always the one I found myself coming back to every now and then. I owe them so much for helping me regain my hope in life. It holds a special place in my heart. After everything I had been through there, it's become like a second home to me." Sasuke then sighed. "Although, it has been a long time since I last visited. I certainly haven't visited since I was appointed captain. I wonder how everyone is doing now."
Kairi frowned before perking up. "You should ask Uncle Ansem for a vacation! If they mean that much to you, I'm sure he'll be willing to let you visit them!"
Sasuke thought for a moment. "Yeah...maybe I shou-" He was interrupted when the earth suddenly started to shake.
The five become immediately on edge. "Whoa!" exclaimed Sora. "What's going on?"
As the rumbling continued, Sasuke gazed of into the town. His sixth sense telling him that something was coming, something bad.
Soon they witnessed something coming from all the way in the town square. Three serpentine dragons with Heartless emblems on their foreheads busted holes out of the ground with loud roars. The red one, the Blaze Wyrm(2), generated a pair of taloned wings made out of fire and began taking flight around town. The blue one, the Frost Wyrm, generated four limbs made out of ice and began stomping in one direction. And the yellow one, the Shock Wyrm, generated three tentacles made of plasma on its back and began slithering in another direction. Then swarms of smaller Heartless began pooling out of the holes the dragons left behind.
Everyone gasped at what was happening.
"What the heck!" shouted Lea, "Where did they come from?!"
Sasuke growled before pulling out his communicator. "Attention all guards! We have a heartless invasion on our hands! Battle stations now! Secure every civilian!" He put his communicator away.
"What do you want us to do, Captain?" asked Isa.
"I want at least one Keyblade wielder on each of those dragons. Sora, do you think you can handle the red one?"
Sora looks and the airborne Heartless. "I've had my fair shares of large flyers, I think I can manage."
"Kairi, you and Isa take the yellow one."
Kairi nodded. "It's done!"
"We'll make short work of it," said Isa.
Sasuke then turned to the pyro, "Lea, you and I will take the blue one."
Lea smirked as he summoned his Flame Liberator Keyblade. "I'll make sure that thing's ice melts."
"Alright, let's move!"
While all of the chaos was going on, something else was happening in the outer gardens. Out of the sky, a sparkle of light zigzagged all over the place. Soon the sparkle landed on the ground with a bright flash, a loud thud, and a pained grunt.
After the flash, a woman sat on the ground, rubbing her posterior in pain. "Ow!" she exclaimed. "How does he work these Star Shards anyway?" She then stood up and looked around. "Wow! So this is what another world is like."
The woman put her hand on her chest as she appeared to be trying to sense something. "I can feel his charm. He must be here." She the then took notice of a nearby statue that appeared to be depicting a swordsman and a woman. Curious, she read the inscription on the tablet and gasped. "This is...Radiant Garden...his home kingdom."
She looked up at city wall and took notice of the black smoke coming from the other side. "That doesn't look good." She wasted no time in rush into the city. When she entered, she was greeted with the sight of three large holes in the town square, multiple Heartless running around, and most glaring of all a red dragon flying around setting things on fire. "Looks like my timing was impeccable."
Soon, the Heartless took notice of the newcomer and started surrounding her. One Shadow attempted to leap up at her, only for the woman to grab a whip from her waist and lash at the attacker, tangling the Heartless. She then pulled and threw it into a portion of the swarm and channeled fire magic upon impact, leading to a fiery explosion that blasted the whole portion. A few Solders charged at her, only for her to summon a magic rod and cast a large gust of ice magic, freezing them solid. After a string of whiplashing and magic pelting several more Heartless, the woman raise her rod and conjured a lightning storm, finishing the rest of them off.
Once it was cleared, the woman turned her attention to the flying red dragon again. She noticed that someone seemed to be trying to fight it while riding its back. She couldn't make out who it was, but got the sense that they needed help.
She soon smirked before waving her arm as a circle of magic orbs began orbiting her.
"Come on! Fly lower, will you?"
Sora was not having a lucky time with the Blaze Wyrm Heartless. It kept flying too high for him to reach. The boy stood on top of a building firing chunks of ice from his Keyblade at the dragon. The ice seemed to be barely doing anything to it. But soon, one hit it at the base of one of its fire wings, snuffing it out, and its flight became unstable as a result. It lost a lot of altitude and when it flew close to the Keybearer, he took the opportunity to jump on its back.
Sora struggled to hang on as he began to bash it with his Keyblade. He found that its hide was pretty tough. Then when the ice thawed out, the Blaze Wyrm regenerated its fire wing, and began trying to shake the boy off while regaining its altitude. But soon, it decided to turn its head towards its unwelcome rider and blasted him with a fireball, knocking him off. Sora was sent plummeting down from a much higher altitude than he was accustomed to, and the Wyrm dove toward the boy with its mouth open to eat him. Sora braced himself when-
"Cold Mist!" a husky feminine voice called as a white mist seemed to come out of nowhere and charged at the Wyrm, throwing it off course and giving it an icy chill that doused both of its wing. The mist then darted towards the falling boy, but rather then chilling him, it seem to carry him onto the ground. He then heard that same voice call, "Healing Sauna!" and the mist became warm and soothing, and before he new it, the burns he suffered from the fireball attack were gone.
As the Blaze Wyrm crashed onto the ground, Sora then witness the mist starting to take shape, until it transformed into a live white dragon. The white dragon turned its head toward Sora as the husky female voice returned. "Need a hand, Keyblade wielder?"
Sora quickly realized that the voice was coming from this new dragon. "Wha...Who are you?"
"I am known as the Mist Dragon," the newcomer answered. "My summoner sent me to assist you in ridding this kingdom of these Heartless."
"Summoner?"
Before more could be said, the Blaze Wyrm let out a loud roar as it thawed out the frost and regenerated its wings.
"Can you still fight, Keybearer?" asked the Mist Dragon.
"Of course!" answered Sora. "I'm not about to let that monster hurt anyone as long as I'm around!"
The Mist chuckled. "Your courage to defend the innocent no matter the opponent certainly reminds me of Sir Sasuke."
Sora was taken aback by that. "Wait, you know Sasuke?"
"I do! But now is not the time. If you still wish to fight, then hop on my back."
Sora wasted no time in hopping on her back. The Blaze Wyrm let out another roar, as the Mist Dragon roared back. Then both dragons took flight.
"Fire Surge!" Lea shouted as he dashed passed the Frost Wyrm's ice front leg with his chakrams orbit him, destroying the limb, and causing the Heartless to wobble a little.
Sasuke jabbed a Red Fang onto his sword, which absorbed the fire magic and ignited. "Flametongue!" He then struck the hind leg on the same side at the first and destroyed it as well, causing the Wyrm to tip over on its side. The captain then leapt up as his sword glowed an orange light. "Raining Eclipse!" he shouted and he swung his sword down and a fusillade of energy swords started raining onto the monster.
Lea then transformed his chakrams back into his keyblade and started generating an orb of flame at its tip. "Firaga Burst!" He then unleashed a barrage of fireballs at the dragon.
The Frost Wyrm was pelted a bunch of times but then it whipped its tail, sending Sasuke crashing into a wall. It then exhaled a blast of frost at Lea, knock him off his feet and freezing his legs to the ground. "Oh come on!" Lea shouted as he started using his fire magic to melt the ice.
As he was doing this however, the Wyrm regenerated its ice legs, stood back up and raise one leg to stomp on the pyro.
"Flash Cover!" Sasuke suddenly appeared in front of Lea in the blink of an eye, and blocked the dragon's foot. As he held his ground, his Moon Cutter began glowing red as it absorbed the force of attack. "Counter Cutter!" He then destroyed the leg again.
Lea finished thawing his legs out as he stood up. "This thing is tougher than it looks."
"No kidding!" said Sasuke. "I bet the others are having just as much trouble with their dragons."
As the two began dodging and deflecting ice projectiles, Sasuke got a call from his communicator. "Captain! I know you're busy but we've got an important development to report. Another dragon had shown up in town. However, it doesn't appear to be a Heartless. In fact it appears to be assisting the Keybearer fighting the red dragon. The new dragon is white and appears to have the ability to turn into mist."
Sasuke paused in shock at what he heard. White dragon... turn into mist... it couldn't be, could it?
"Further more, an unknown mage has been sighted in the city combating the Heartless. Reports describe it as a woman with emerald hair, wears green, and carries a rod and a whip."
No way!
Lea then stabbed his keyblade into the ground. "Scorching Field!" The ground beneath the Wyrm turned into a fiery floor, causing it to have trouble stand on its melting limbs.
The captain took the opportunity to grab his communicator. "Let all guards know that the emerald woman and the white dragon are allies! Do not engage either of them! In fact, make sure neither of them get killed! I repeat! The woman and the white dragon are friends! Do not attack!"
"Yes, Captain!"
Lea turned to his old friend. "Something I should know?"
"I'll explain later! Right now we have to focus!"
The two turned their attention back to the Frost Wyrm, who had managed to douse Lea's Scorching Field, and then engaged it once again.
"Lunar Blaze!" Isa shouted as he slammed his Claymore on the ground, unleashing five lines of blue-white flames at the Shock Wyrm. The Wyrm retaliated by firing several electric spheres at him, which he promptly dodged.
Kairi pointed her Destiny's Embrace Keyblade at the monster. "Flower Shooter!" She fire a fusillade of light projectiles emitting flower petals. It then called down a few lightning bolt that she had to dodge.
Isa then leapt at the Heartless, slashing his claymore onto the Heartless. But then he got caught by one of its plasma tentacles, electrifying him.
"Isa!" called Kairi as she charged energy into her Keyblade. "Strike Raid!" She threw her Keyblade into the tentancle, causing it to dissipate and release her friend. She then casted a Curaga spell to heal him. "Are you okay?"
Isa shakily got up. "Those tentacles are making it impossible to get close to it."
Then a wall of lightning bolts generated in front of the Wyrm, which then charged toward the two. Kairi was quick to cast a barrier around them, protecting them from the lightning. But then the Heartless started slamming its tentacles onto the barrier repeatedly, making it crack more and more until it shattered, knocking them both on the ground. It then started gathering electrical energy within its mouth and then fired a plasma beam at them before they could get up.
"Judgement Bolt!" Suddenly, a large bolt of lightning came down and intercepted the beam. After the lightning dissipated, a woman with emerald hair, a dark green dress, a distinct red hairpin, and was carrying a rod and a whip leapt in front of the duo. "Hello!" she said. "You look like you could use some help."
"Um thanks," said Kairi. "But who are you?"
Before the woman could answer, the Wyrm charged at them. However, the she waved her arms as magic orbs orbited her. "Gigas Fist!" She shouted as an astral projection of a stone giant appeared and punched the Heartless square in the face, sending it plummeting into the wall on the far side. The giant disappeared soon after.(3)
Both Kairi and Isa stared in awe at what they just witnessed. Isa then spoke, "You're...a summoner."
The woman giggled. "That's right! My name is Rydia! I came to this town looking for someone, but then I saw all Heartless running amok and thought I should help out. I even sent out my own dragon to help against that flying red one."
Kairi perked up at this. "That's the one my boyfriend is fighting!"
Isa smirked at how open his friend had been lately about her relationship with Sora. Though kinda understating it as in a sense the two were actually engaged,(4) though they're rather young for marriage yet so they tend refrain from calling each other fiancees in front of others for the time being. "Well, thanks for the assist. I'm Isa."
"And I'm Kairi! Nice to meet you! And thank you for sending help to Sora!"
Rydia then looked at the red head, and seemed to be studying her. "Kairi? You wouldn't happen to be Kairi Mae, would you?"
The girl was taken a back by that. "I...haven't used that last name in years! How did you know?"
The emerald head giggled again. "Sasuke told me all about you...and your father."
"You know Sasuke Kazekiri?"
"Yep! He's actually the one I came looking for. He hasn't visited my home world in a long time."
"Probably because he's recently been appointed Captain of the Royal Guard," said Isa.
"Really!" Rydia jumped excitedly. "That's such wonderful news!"
Then the Shock Wyrm roared as it seemed to have regained its energy.
Isa readied his claymore. "Looks like it's not done yet."
"We could use more of your help, Rydia," said Kairi as she readied her Keyblade.
"Like you even have to ask!" Rydia readied her magic rod. "After we're done with this thing, I wanna hear all about Sasuke from you!"
Sora rode the Mist Dragon through the sky, firing magic bullets and Blizzaga spells at the Blaze Wyrm. The Wyrm would fight back with fireballs, fire breaths, and occasionally trying to ram them with its fire wings. Mist would occasionally swipe the monster with her talons, bite it, or give it another dose of Cold Mist.
Soon the dragons charged at each other head on. Sora unsheathed Dawn's Might and began gathering energy as the blade began to glow a brown orange color. Then at the last second of collision, Sora jumped up while Mist turned to mist and passed through the Heartless, frosting it and dousing its wings. The boy then came down on it as he swung the katana. "Smite of Dawn!" He unleashed a wave of darkness and light onto the beast, leaving an open wound on it, and sending it plummeting to the ground.
The Mist Dragon caught the Keybearer out of the air before diving down toward the Heartless. The Wyrm attempted to get up, but Mist wasn't having it. She gathered bright energy into her mouth. "Radiant Breath!" She then breathed out a beam of white light that also left mist in its wake. The beam blasted the Heartless back into the ground as it began writhing in pain.
Sora then gathered power from his Keyblade and katana as he himself began to glow an ethereal light. "Relinquit Aetherium Circumdatos!"(5) He swung both weapons, unleashing waves of powerful energy that sliced right through the Blaze Wyrm, finally finishing it off.
The boy then panted in exhaustion, still not quite used to using ethereal magic like that.
"That was quite the impressive display, Keybearer," said the Mist Dragon. "What is your name?"
"I'm Sora! Sora Kumo!"
"Sora Kumo! I will remember that well! As I said, your courage definitely reminds me of Sir Sasuke."
"Um, yeah, how do you know him?"
"He has visited my home world numerous times. He is very close to my summoner. She actually came here looking for him when she saw all the Heartless wreaking havoc."
"Well, thanks a lot for the help!"
"It was my pleasure. Now then, shall we cleanse this kingdom of any remaining Heartless?"
Sora chuckled. "Definitely!"
With that, Sora and the Mist Dragon began flying around the city.
Sasuke and Lea found themselves dodging an avalanche of ice chunks generated by the Frost Wyrm.
"Oh come on!" exclaimed Lea. "When is this thing gonna go down!?" He began launching more fireballs at it.
As soon as the avalanche stopped, both men were exhausted. Sasuke grunted in frustration before saying, "That's it! I'm done playing around!" He then pulled out his little trinket.
Lea saw this and said, "Hey, isn't that a Summon Charm?"
"You asked before who it was that saved me from the darkness. Well, you're about to meet him!" The captain held the charm to his heart, and it soon began to glow. "Lend me strength! Dark Knight, Odin!"(6)
Then a dark sigil appeared on the ground, before a pillar of darkness errupted. When the darkness cleared, a tall figure clad in bronze armor carrying a curved sword and riding a horse appeared. Lea had to admit, it was quite the imposing figure.
The Wyrm immediately attempted to attack the knight with a frost breath, only for the knight to charge darkness through his sword. "Dark Wave!" he shouted at he countered the frost with a wave of darkness, blasted the Heartless into the far side wall. The knight then turned to the captain. "It's been a while, Sir Sasuke."
"Indeed it has, Sir Odin! This is one of my oldest friends, Lea Fahrenheit. Lea, this is the dark knight eidolon, Odin."
"Wow!" exclaimed Lea. "So this is the one that saved you?"
"I was gazing into the darkness when I happened to spot him sinking in. I could sense that he had the heart of a true knight, and I just couldn't allow someone of great potential fall into the darkness."
"Amazing!"
Soon the Frost Wyrm regained its bearings and let out a roar.
"As you can see," said Sasuke, "this thing has been giving us a lot problems. Wanna give us a hand?"
"It will be my pleasure!"
With that Sasuke, Lea, and Odin attacked the Frost Wyrm. The captain and the eidolon hacked and slashed the monster while the pyro assisted with his fire. The Wyrm was struggling against the might of the dark knight eidolon.
Soon they managed to leave an open wound, and Lea transformed his Keyblade into his chakrams and began charging a lot of fire magic. "Infernal Explosion!" He then threw his chakrams at the dragon, which engulfed it in a large fiery pillar.
As the monster writhed in pain, Odin readied his sword as it began to glow a silver light. "Together, Sasuke!"
"Right!" Sasuke replied as he readied his Moon Cutter, which also glowed silver.
As soon as Lea's fire let up, the two charged at the Heartless. "Zantetsuken!" And with that, the Frost Wyrm was sliced to pieces.
And the two men collapse from exhaustion, Lea exclaim, "Wow! I gotta admit, that was impressive!"
Sasuke nodded before looking at the eidolon. "Thank you for your help, Sir Odin."
"You are most welcome, Sir Sasuke. By the way, it's been a long time since you last visited, hasn't it?"
The captain chuckled. "Sorry about that! I've been busy. I was recently appointed captain of the guard of my home kingdom."
"Truly? Well, congratulations! I'm certain that everyone will be happy to hear the news."
"No kidding! I get the feeling I'm in for an earful of excitement, if my suspicions concerning the reports I've been hearing about unannounced visitors are correct."
The dark knight chuckled. "I would like to stay and talk some more, but unfortunately my time is almost up."
"Alright! I might summon you again at a later time to introduce everyone else to the eidolon that saved me, if that's alright with you."
"I have no objections."
"Thank you! And uh, give Cecil my regards, will you?"
"Of course, I will!" And with that, Odin vanished into darkness.
Lea crossed his arms. "Never thought a master of darkness would actually be quite a swell guy."
Sasuke chuckled. "Yeah, he's living proof that not all wielders of darkness are evil. Now then, let's clear up the rest of the Heartless before meeting up with the others."
"Hellfire!" Rydia summoned a projection of a horned humanoid who ignited in flames before charging into the Shock Wyrm.
Rydia had been helping Kairi and Isa a lot in this battle. Her summons were coming in handy, and even her own spell were effective, especially her Flare spells. Kairi continued pelting it with her own spells, including Faith, as well as her Flower Shooters.
Isa summoned multiple claymores and charged them with moon energy began throwing them at the Wyrm, until one of them left an open wound. "Great! It's almost down!"
Kairi nodded. "Then let's hit is with everything we've got!"
Isa then gather a massive amount of moon energy, leapt high into the air and focused the energy on his claymore. "Crashing Moon!" He threw this sword, which turned into a blue meteor and crash onto Wyrm.
"Diamond Dust!" Rydia summoned a tall blue woman who then encase the entire area around the Heartless in ice, trapping it.
Kairi then gather as much of her pure light as she could muster, and focused it on her Keyblade. "Divine Light!" She then unleashed what at first looked like a mere speck of light, but as soon as it hit the Shock Wyrm, it exploded into a large pillar of light, obliterating it.
The three of them panted from exhaustion, Kairi especially from using so much of her light. "Man, that was rough!"
"No kidding!" replied Isa before he looked to the summoner. "We really owe you one for this."
Rydia giggled. "It was no biggie! You can pay me back by helping me find Sasuke. It's been so long and...I really miss him, you know."
Kairi smiled knowingly. "I think I know just how you feel."
"Not to worry," said Isa. "Once all the Heartless have been cleared out, we should be meeting at the castle gates."
Rydia jumped up excitedly. "Well, what are we waiting for!"
Later, Kairi, Isa, and Rydia all arrived at the castle gates. Where they were greeted by several guards as well as Ansem the Wise himself.
"Kairi!" Ansem said. "Thank goodness you're safe! After hearing about how strong those Heartless were, I was getting worried."
"I'm alright, Uncle Ansem," Kairi replied before pointing to the summoner. "Thanks to a little unexpected help."
The ruler looked at the newcomer. "So you're the visitor I've been hearing reports about. I thank you for helping my great niece."
Rydia bowed. "It was no problem, sir. My name is Rydia, summoner from the Land of Twin Moons, and close friend to Sasuke Kazekiri."
"Truly? Well then, any friend of Captain Sasuke is welcome here."
Then his attention was turned to something flying toward them. Everyone looked to see a white dragon approaching. Everyone was immediately on edge.
"No worries!" said the summoner. "That dragon is mine!"
Every seemed to relax, especially once they noticed that Sora was riding it. The dragon landed and let the Keyblade wielder off.
"Sora!" Kairi shouted at she dashed into his arms. "Those Heartless were tough! I was so worried!"
Sora chuckled. "Oh come on, Kairi! You know I don't go down that easily. Though I will admit this Mist Dragon sure helped me a lot."
Rydia then approached her dragon, and began petting her head with a loving smile on her face. "Thank you for your help, Misty," she said softly.
"Anything for you, Rydia!" Mist replied.
Sora turned to the summoner. "So you're the one who sent this dragon to help me?"
Kairi tugged on her boyfriend's arm. "She also helped Isa and I with our fight personally."
"Really? Well then, I gotta thank you twice. Once for saving my butt, and one for saving my girlfriend."
Rydia giggled. "It was nothing!"
Then Lea and Sasuke finally walked into the area. The moment Rydia spotted the captain... "SASUKE!" she dashed to him faster than everyone expected. He only saw her for a split second before she tackled him into the ground.
The swordsman grunted in pain as he look at the lump of emerald hair latching onto his chest. "R-Rydia!"
"It's been sooooo long! I missed you so much!"
Sasuke worked to get the two of them to at least sit up. "W-Wow! This is...such a surprise, seeing you here! But how did you even get here?"
Rydia wink at him as she pulled out a star shaped crystal. "I happened upon my own Star Shard. Once I had this, all I had to do was use that Summon Charm I gave you as a beacon, and poof here I am! And apparently my timing was impeccable, what with the Heartless invasion. I had to send Misty to aid that boy against a flying opponent, and I also helped Kairi against hers myself."
"Wow! Thank you for coming! And thank you for you help! It's...really great to see you again!"
"And you too!"
Lea had approach the others during the conversation, and let out a mock groan. "Get a room, you two!"
Sasuke was visibly flustered by this. "Sh-Shut up, Lea!"
Rydia only giggled at the man's blushing face.
Lea then turned to Isa and Kairi, and whispered, "Seriously, when was he ever gonna tell us that he had a girlfriend?"
"Are we even certain they're really together together?" asked Isa.
"Come on! Look at them! Don't you just see a spark?"
"They live worlds apart Lea. Don't you think such distance would complicate such a relationship?"
"I don't know," Kairi said with a knowing smile. "Maybe they haven't talked about it yet, but I can definitely see there's something between them." She giggled. "I don't think the distance will be too much of an issue for them."
Lea chuckled. "Well, looks like that's three out of the four of us who have a significant other! Now we just have to find Isa a girlfriend!"
"Very funny!" Isa said deadpanned.
Sasuke and Rydia finally stood up. "Everyone!" Sasuke announced. "This is Rydia! One of the closest friends I've ever made! Without whom I probably wouldn't be here today!"
Rydia waved. "Hello, everyone!"
While formal introductions were going on, nobody realize that they were being watched from afar.
"Yuck!" Braig(7) said in disgust. "I think I'm gonna puke! Luck always seems to be on your side, huh Kazekiri. So your green haired girlfriend bailed you out this time. Big whoop! Doesn't mean squat!"
He then sighed. He spent two months preparing the three Wyrms to wreck the city and kill the ones he hated most, only for that summoner and two eidolons to turn the tide. He was really looking forward to conquering Radiant Garden too. But it looks like he was gonna have to back out for now.
"Fine! You can have this victory. But just you wait! This wishy washy kingdom will fall someday. And your pathetic ideals will mean nothing. Until then, think I'll see if there's another kingdom I could conquer instead."
And with that he disappeared in a corridor of darkness.
A/N: And there you have it. Hope you like it, Kris! Like I said, this was just filler written just for fun. But please read and review regardless.
Footnotes:
(1) In Kris's universe, particularly when she did her rewrite of her first story Kingdom Hearts 3 Re:Final Stand, Sora ended up losing the Kingdom Key after freeing Ventus's heart, and got his ancestor's Keyblade, Key to the Kingdom, as a replacement. Where the Kingdom Key went, and whether or not it'll ever reappear, is a mystery even to me.
(2) A wyrm is a type of dragon with a long serpentine body and is usually depicted with no limbs whatsoever, not even wings. However while each of these three Wyrm Heartless's main bodies fit this description, they're each able to use there respective elements to generate ethereal appendages.
(3) I have a little headcanon that there are two types of summoning. One I call full summoning, which is actually conjuring a beast to assist them in battle for an extended period of time, similar to how it works in FF10. The second I call partial summoning, where rather then summoning the beast itself, the summoner merely borrows a fraction of their power, summoning an astral projection of the beast for a single attack, as how it works in most FF games. To do a full summon, the summoner calls the beast's name, while partial summoning they call the attack or support ability they want to use.
(4) This happened when the ghost of Kairi's father, Kaname, gave Sora his sword, Dawn's Might, as a symbol of his blessing. It's tradition to passed down that sword to oldest son when he finds the woman he loves, or to the man who desires the heart of the oldest daughter. Any man who receives Dawn's Might makes a promise to protect the woman he marries, and by extension any children they have.
(5) Translation: Ethereal Cutter
(6) My headcannon is that FF4's Odin is a dark knight.
(7) Just to be clear, in Kris's universe, Braig is NOT Luxu. Both Braig's and Luxu's characters had already been established in this universe LONG before that plot twist happened.
