The waves lapped gently onto the shore of the small island. The clam, peaceful sound they made filled the night air as the moon loomed high up over the ocean. It was joined by thousands of twinkling stars. The majorty of them stayed perfectly still where they were, although a shooting star zoomed through the sparkling atmosphere, leaving behind a glistening silver trail.

It had caught the attention of the three small children who were sat together on the Paopu tree.

"That's where all the worlds are!" exclaimed the eldest child. "Out there beyond the sky! I just know it!"

"You're really sure about that, huh, Riku?" murmured the youngest child, the only girl.

"You bet, Kairi! There's so much more out there than these puny little islands we're stuck on!" The silver-haired boy swung his legs restlessly. "Somewhere, just waiting to be discovered, are worlds full of adventure and really cool stuff! I'm gonna be the first to see them all! That's my goal for the future!"

"Oh?" Kairi giggled. "And just how are you planning to get off this island to see those worlds?"

"I dunno." Riku shrugged cluelessly. "I guess I'll have to knock something together to take me out there! Maybe a raft or something?"

The red-haired girl laughed softly.

"Well that's a really neat goal to have for the future, Riku. My plan is to one day be a princess..." Kairi gazed up towards the stars with a soft, dreamy sigh. "It will be so wonderful. 'm gonna have handsome prince to take me away on his horse and bring me to his castle where we will live happily ever after. That's my goal for the future..."

Riku made a face. What Kairi describes to him sounded to the six-year old what he would describe as sissy. He would certainly have said so had it just been told to him by any other girl. It was only because Kairi was one of his closest friends that he kept his thoughts to himself.

Although he had to admit, he somehow had a feeling that it was possible she could become a princess. He didn't know how, but he had a hunch. He could see it happening to her.

"What about you, Sora?" Riku asked the other boy joining them. "What's your goal for the future?"

"My goal?" The spiky-haired brunette lifted his head from where he had been lazily laying on the tree and grinned at his two best friends. "Oh I have a really awesome goal for the future!"

The silver-haired boy and red-headed girl gazed at Sora with wide eyes full of interest.

"Well?" Riku urged.

"What is it?" Kairi asked.

"I'm gonna have a great big tasty dinner!"

"Dinner?!" Riku's face fell, his jaw falling with bafflement over what kind of ambition his air-headed friend could come up with. "That's all your thinking about for your future?!"

"Well I won't have to think about dinner much longer, Riku," Sora said innocently. "Mom's cooking it tonight! I'm so starving, I'm gonna eat every bit of it - but I must save room in my tummy, 'cause she's making my favourite dessert! That's my goal for the future!"

Kairi giggled cheerfully while Riku put a hand to his face, shaking his head with a groan over Sora's completely unimaginative future goal.

The end.
