Six months after defeating Snively, Sonic and friends have enjoyed a period of peace. However, the return of an all-too familiar foe in search of the illusive Chaos Emeralds brings that peace to an end,with the aid of an ancient monster. In the midst of all this, Sonic must unlock the secrets to his past and save the world again!

Six months have passed since Snively's defeat and the fall of the Castle Of Acorn. The Knothole and Mobotropolis have enjoyed a period of peace and Sonic's name was cleared. However, little did our heroes know, Sonic's past is one that is shrouded in mystery, and through the discovery of a series of events from thousands of years ago, he will discover his true origins…

Suddenly, the roar of a beast can be heard, before a green, beastly eye of a beast made from water appears, then the screen fades to black.
