Prologue

Think back to the furthest time you can possibly remember. Back past the yesterdays and yesteryears. Back and back until you can't possibly go back any further. Then go back one-thousand and one-hundred more years and you will find the when of our story today, for the Kaiju are very old. Think now of the deepest, darkest, moistest, place that you can, and imagine something even deeper, darker, and moister. That is the where of our story, for the Kaiju do not need to give names to the lands in which they reside. Picture two WAIT DON'T PICTURE THAT THIS ISN'T AN R RATED NOVEL. Imagine a mother, lovingly cradling her newborn child, and you will know the who. Yes, that is all that you need to know for now. Now we can truly begin the story, which I'm sure you have been anxiously awaiting.

Chapter One: The Beginning

Karen sat on her front porch condescendingly sipping her iced tea through a straw, watching her neighbors go about their lives. She kept notes as she noticed each and every one of their many inferiorities, for later use of course. Wait wait wait. That I do believe is the wrong Karen. I told you to think of an ancient, deep dark moist place, not a white suburban neighborhood. No one wants to hear about that. I thought you could be trusted for the important parts, but I guess not. From now on I will have to do all the imagining. This could get interesting I'm not very creative. Ahem. Karen sat on her front porch, surveying the vast forests and jungles that surrounded her home for the first time. Here we go this is the right Karen, no thanks to you. It was her nine-hundred and eightieth birthday and she was finally allowed to leave the cave on her own. She basked in the sunlight, taking in the heat as any reptile would, marveling in the beauty of it all. She took one step, then another, crashing through swaths of forest. Brushing past the trees like they weren't even there. Faster and faster she went, reveling in the freedom, shaking the ground with her every step. After some time, she came to the shore and the ocean. The marvelous ocean. Karen had never seen anything like it. She plunged into the depths, laughing at the tickling sensation as gills opened up on either side of her leathery neck. Surfacing a mile or so away from the beach, she looked back at her home. The home that she had known since the beginning of her life all those 980 years ago. She was still young for a Kaiju. and definitely not ready to leave that home for good yet. She started back, knowing that her parents would soon return from their hunt with the month's food, but stopped almost immediately. Something had caught her eye in the water. She went under to get a better look, but it seemed to move further away as she got closer. Karen had always been insatiably curious, and couldn't help but follow the tiny glowing light deeper and deeper, further and further. Almost hypnotized, she forgot about going home, about meeting her parents, and about even the food that they would bring back. She kept going and going until she no longer knew where she was. She had never ventured away from her island before and had yet to get her navigation merit badge, so she was hopelessly lost.
