I said I had one more branching story of the demon series where Lilith was still a child and here you go. Takes place shortly after understanding. Enjoy.
Dark storm clouds rolled over the city of Echo Creek before rain began to pour down in sheets. Lightning flashed illuminating the streets below and thunder roared, shaking the windows of every house. Lilith shot up on the bed and panted with her eyes widened as she looked around the room. Hearing the door open, the young demon looked back and saw Marco stepping into the room. Quickly jumping out of bed, Lilith ran towards Marco and hugged his legs. Marco looked down and arched a brow, "What's wrong, Lilith? I thought you were sleeping. Did you have a bad dream or-" before he could finish, lightning flashed and thunder clapped and he felt Lilith shaking in fear, "…Lilith, are you afraid of thunderstorms?"
"I don't like them," Lilith sniffled and looked up and Marco saw tearstains going down her cheeks, "It was scary when I was in that forest…the lightning and the thunder were scary and mommy and daddy weren't there for me and when I couldn't find you, I got scared again," Marco inhaled slowly as he patted the top of her head, "Where were you?"
"My parents asked if I'd go downstairs and make sure the windows were closed,"
"Marco, can you stay?" Marco took a deep breath and Lilith frowned, "Please?" Marco picked her up and carried her to the bed before setting her down and laid down beside her.
Hearing thunder roar and felling Lilith cling to his right arm and began to shake, Marco looked down and slightly frowned, "It's okay, Lilith, the thunder won't hurt. And even if it could, you should know by now that I'm not going to let that happen,"
"It's loud…mommy and daddy weren't there…it was scary," Lilith shook as Marco continued to frown, "It was cold and scary…I don't want to be alone again," Marco freed his arm and sat up before holding Lilith close to him and began patting the top of her head, "Marco?"
"Hush little baby, don't you cry
papa's gonna sing you a lullaby.
Hush little baby, don't say a word,
papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird." Lilith let out a shaky breath as she leaned up against Marco as he continued to sing to her.
"If that mockingbird won't sing
papa's gonna buy you a golden ring.
If that gold ring turns to brass
papa's gonna buy you a looking glass.
If that glass begins to crack
papa's gonna buy you a jumping jack," Lilith moaned as she nuzzled closer to Marco and closed her eyes as she felt herself begin to settle down slightly.
"If that jumping jack is broke
papa's gonna buy you a velvet cloak.
If that velvet cloth is coarse
papa's gonna buy you a rocking horse." A small smile formed across Lilith's lips as Marco patted the top of her head.
"If that rocking horse won't rock
papa's gonna buy you a cuckoo clock.
If that cuckoo clock won't tick
papa's gonna buy you a walking stick.
If that walking stick falls down
you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town," Marco looked down and saw Lilith's breathing even out and he took a deep breath before he kissed the top of her head and slightly smiled, "Goodnight, Lilith. I'll see you in the morning,"
"Well…that was something," Marco looked up and saw Star stepping into the room, "I didn't think she was afraid of thunderstorms, and I didn't expect you to sing to her, let alone sing a lullaby,"
"She was terrified of the thunderstorm and I did what my parents used to do to comfort me…was it strange?"
"No, it was sweet," Star smiled and sat down on the edge of the bed. Looking at the sleeping demon, the blonde princess inhaled slowly and shook her head, "Don't you remember what you said when she was taken to the Trade? After your parents told you that you could scare her off if she saw you like that?"
"That if I scare her so be it, but I was going to find my daughter and bring her back to earth, I also told you guys to go back to go back to earth an-"
"I know what happens to a demon if they feel enough negativity…and I wasn't going to lose you to that, so I made the decision to stay and help you find Lilith," Star scooted next to Marco and laid her head on his shoulder as she looked down and rubbed the top of Lilith's head as she soundly slept, "Hard to believe she's been through so much and yet whenever she's with you, she seems happy, like her time in the forest and the Trade incident didn't happen."
"Because she knows she's around people who will keep her safe and won't turn their backs on her when she does something wrong. Her parents were assholes and they better hope I never see them because I won't be as nice as I was with those bastards in the Trade,"
"Whatever you say, tiger," Star smiled and closed her eyes, "But we should get some sleep too," Marco hummed and nodded before closing his eyes as well.
And that's another branching story to the demon series…enjoy.
