Jonathan Smith and Mark Gordon are just crossing into the Tennessee State line. Mark has the radio and the song playing: "Help me information, get in touch with my Marie. She's the only one who'd called me here from Memphis Tennessee. Her name is on the Southside high upon a ridge. Just half a mile from the Mississippi bridge... And tore apart our happy home in Memphis Tennessee."

Mark continues to listen to the song and says to Jonathan, "I love these songs that tell a personal story."

Jonathan replies, "Yeah Mark, I know what you mean. Our next assignment is in Memphis Tennessee and it's going to be personal for the family."

Mark asked, "Can you tell me about it?"

Johnathon replies, "Pull into the rental place on your right." They drive a little ways into the lot with vehicles parked everywhere than Jonathan says, "There it is."

Mark acknowledges where Johnathan pointed and reads the delivery van in question which says, 'Smith and Gordon's Bakery service.'

Jonathan says to Mark, ''This is for you!" Giving him a big fluffy Baker's hat.

Mark responds, "That's cute, Jonathan that's cute!" As he steps out of his parked car puts on the hat and gets in the delivering van with Jonathan.

They drive over to the Bakery and then later in the day to Tennessee Pride Elementary School. Class is in session. It's the birthday of Brandon he just turned 6 years old.

This morning before school started he was helping his daddy on the farm. His daddy woke him up at 5am. to help him feed the pigs. Brandon got to ride around the farm looking at the crop daddy planted and checking the stock daddy raised. He was so very happy to be daddy's little farm help. The eggs he had for breakfast he helped mama gather. His Ma bragged on how much of a big help he was on seeing to it that the family has such a delicious breakfast that Ma cooked. Everybody was so pleased and happy.

Brandon dressed just like his daddy, blue checkered plaid shirt, bib overalls, brown boots and to school he wore his white straw cowboy hat just like his daddy's. Brandon was so proud to be his daddy's little man. It was his birthday and his class was celebrating his life for one more year.

In the classroom Miss Jemson Brandon's teacher announces, "We will have normal classes today until after the lunch break. Brandon's family has arranged a special birthday celebration. None of you may recognize the name but an entertainer, a singer and comedian named, Danny Thomas is coming to perform for us today. I'm told Brandon loves the hit Tv series starring Danny Thomas called, 'Make Room for Daddy' so since Brandon's daddy is a large contributor to St Judes Children's Hospital of which was founded by Danny Thomas he has arranged to make Brandon 6th birthday extra special. But now let's get to learning."

Class progresses but the students were only partly listening. Everyone was in such anticipation, noone ever heard of Danny Thomas except Mrs. Jemson and Brandon but none the less the time away from studying thrilled all the students. The lunch bell rang the class dismissed for lunch.

Meanwhile Jonathan and Mark arrive at Tennessee Pride Elementary School with a great big cake and tubs of chocolate vanilla and strawberry ice cream. While they're setting up in walks Danny Thomas and his crew to set up his crops, microphone and instruments needed. The Principal, Mr. Nathan Rogers decided to let them use the auditorium so the whole school could be a part of Brandon's birthday. Noone in the school except the principal knew that. Wouldn't Brandon be surprised that all his friends will be there at the party?

During lunch break Miss Jemson is instructed to take her class down to the school auditorium instead of back to the classroom. Brandon's class is assigned seating to the first couple of rows in the auditorium.

As soon as the whole school is seated down in the auditorium, Mr. Rogers, the school Principal goes up to the microphone dead center on the platform and announces, "As you know it's Brandon Goodlett's 6th birthday. He is a fine young man. His daddy tells me he's going to make a fine famer someday. His mother and father are very proud of him. His mother I understand is with us today, his father is running late but will be here later. Mrs. Janice Goodlett would you stand please? (She stands), We are so glad to honor your son today. He's a fine young gentleman and very teachable in the classroom. You and your husband have done a superb job in raising him.''

Jonathan and Mark serve the cake and ice cream there is happiness and laughter among Brandon and all his friends at Tennessee Pride Elementary School. After a little bit Danny Thomas gets up and entertains and does a wonderful job.

After the show Danny Thomas puts on for Brandon and his friends he hands him a signed vhs copy of the very first episode of, "Make Room for Daddy."

Brandon receives it gleefully.

Everyone continues to have more cake and ice cream.

Brandon's father walks into the auditorium and stands in the back looking for his wife and son. Janice noticed him and calls out, "Harve, over here, Honey." He acknowledges the voice and goes toward his wife and son.

Upon coming up to them Brandon shows him the signed vhs and says, "Look daddy, look what Mr. Thompson gave me."

He replies, "That's good son. I love you. Sorry I couldn't get here sooner."

Brandon responds, "That's ok, Daddy we saved you some cake and ice cream."

Harve starts eating his cake and ice cream. Everyone is having such a wonderful time. It must have been a half hour or so of people talking, laughing and just being happy.

Then it happened, Brandon was getting a little cake on his fork when he dropped the fork and he fell to the floor. Immediately an ambulance was called Danny Thomas says when the ambulance arrived, "Take him to St. Jude Hospital to the EMT."

Jonathan says to Mark, "Follow the ambulance, Brandon is part of the assignment."

The ambulance arrived at St Jude Hospital as well as everyone that followed. After examination and certainty of diagnosis, Dr. Caleb Jones reports to the family that Brandon is definitely going to die within six months. There is no doubt in the doctor's mind.

Janice loses it and says, "NO! You are going to make him well! He's daddy's little farmer!" She weeps uncontrollably and embraces her husband. Weeping together as the news hits them.

Mark asks Jonathan as they are also in the waiting room, "What about it Jonathan will Brandon die at such a young age?"

Johnathan replies, "I don't know Mark, it's in the hands of God Almighty."

Danny Thomas is also in the waiting room and upon hearing the news turns too deep contemplating thoughts.

What will happen?
