Pokemon Mystery Dungeon:
Forgotten Life
He didn't know where he was. He didn't know who he was. All he knew was that he was a human, and he wasn't entirely sure of that too. He was in a dark place. Then he heard something, a voice. He couldn't make it out, so he ignored it. Then the voice came again.
"Wake up." It said.
"Come on, wake up." a second voice said.
He started to realize it was getting brighter. He awakened and found himself in a field. Then he heard the voices again.
"Good, you're awake." the first voice said.
He looked over to where the voices originated from. He saw an orange and tan lizard-like creature with a blue flame on the end of its tail. There was also a blue and white otter-like thing with a yellow shell.
"We thought you were dead." the lizard said.
"I might be." he muttered to himself.
"What do you mean?" the otter said, who had obviously heard him.
He then took the time to tell them everything he knew, which was really not a lot. Afterwards they all took the time to ponder the thought of what this meant.
"What even is your name?" the lizard asked.
"I don't remember." he said.
"Well then, we'll just have to come up with one for you in the meantime." the otter said. "In the meantime, we got to go, those clouds over there don't like good."
The three started going until he fell down a hill and into a mud puddle, splashing mud around.
"Wait, I got it. Those mud puddles look like storm clouds, so how about the name Mudstorm?" the lizard said.
"I... I like it." he, now Mudstorm, said.
"I'm Charcoal, by the way." the lizard said.
"And I'm Riptide." the otter said.
Thunder boomed behind them. They quickened their pace a little.
"We must go on wards to Palandro Town. Before the rain hits." Charcoal said.
Somewhere on the island a minion is reporting to his boss.
"We have an issue. He has awakened and found others."
"Follow him!" the boss boomed. "Do not be seen. He must not know we are here. No one can know."
"Well, we made it, and the rain is still a bit away." Riptide said. "We can register as a rescue team now."
"That reminds me, I know it's a bit late to ask, but would you like to join our rescue team?" Charcoal asked.
I don't want to let them down he thought, But I don't have anywhere else to go. "Why not." he said.
They walked down to Expedition Society Base where all rescue teams had to register. But...
"Aw, it's closed." Riptide said.
"We can come back later, and besides we can get something to eat." Charcoal said. "And I know just where to go."
They walked through town. Mudstorm saw all sorts of stuff in town. There were houses as well as stores, cafes and restaurants, hotels, a hospital, a school, a backer, and so much more. Then they came to a round orange, white, and brown building.
They went inside and met the owner Flynn, and ate. Afterwards they went back to the E.S. base and found it still closed.
"We can come back tomorrow." Charcoal said. "We can stay at a nearby hotel."
They went to a rectangular green and blue building, and they each had their own room. Mudstorm lay in his looking out a window. He closed his eyes. He found himself in a dream, there was a room with a similar window.
"I can't believe you got the job." a new voice said.
"I know, now I just have to be in this hotel until I have a place of my own in this town." Mudstorm heard himself say.
He saw his dream self hold a gold star-shaped badge. "Being an officer is going to be fun."
They dream started to fade. He started hearing another voice. That voice kept getting louder and louder.
"Wake up!"
Mudstorm woke up startled. Charcoal was standing in the doorway. The sound of rain and thunder boomed, and flashes of lightning brightened the dark sky.
"What's going on?" Mudstorm said groggily.
"The river's overflowing, and the town's flooding. We got to get out before-"
The sound of rushing water came, and soon the room was submerged in water
He watched as his life flashed before his eyes. Being a child, getting a job, meeting his long-lost sister, all his police missions, his last police mission, waking up on the hill, meeting Charcoal and Riptide, the town, and then the flood. Then the memories were gone again. He thought he should be dead, from drowning. But he wasn't.
Mudstorm swam up trough the water, not even out of breath. That's when it hit him, he could breath underwater. He looked around and called for Charcoal and Riptide but got no response. He realized that somehow he had been swept out of the hotel. He saw the green roof of in the distance and swam towards it. As he got close he saw several figures.
"Who are you?" asked a wet fletchling, as Mudstorm dragged himself on the roof.
"I'm Mudstorm." He said. "Have you seen an oshawott and a charmander with a blue tail flame?"
The fletchling shook his head. "Most managed to escape before the hotel flooded. Those who didn't either came here or didn't make it out. There are some water-types searching flooded areas for stragglers."
"Oh." Mudstorm said sadly, realizing that his friends could be dead.
"Don't worry, the charmander might have high-tailed it out of there, literally, and the oshawott is a water type so he would have made it." the fletchling said. This news made Mudstorm feel a little more positive. "I'm Flint by the way." Flint shook his feather spraying water around.
Mudstorm went back into the water.
"Where are you going?" Flint asked.
"To find my friends." Mudstorm said.
Flint flew in the air. "I'm coming with you."
"Where do you think they would have gone to?" Flint asked after 5 minutes of traveling.
"Maybe they would have gone to the back there." Mudstorm motioned to the round orange, white, and brown cafe from before. Most of this building was submerged, but there was still a large part not submerged.
"No!" Flint said sharply. "I mean- they wouldn't have made it all the way here."
"They could've and they would look everywhere for me, but they may be in trouble. Plus there could be some trapped in there."
"Fine, but we have to make it quick." Flint said.
They went around the whole building and found an open skylight on the roof. Mudstorm dropped down with a splash and Flint flew in. When Mudstorm resurfaced he heard cheers.
"Hooray" "There here" "There going to get us out"
Mudstorm looked around as the voices died down when a new but familiar voice came.
"Never mind everyone, it's just my son." Flynn said. He flew over to Mudstorm and spoke quietly to him. "It's good to see you again. I must thank you for returning my Flynn Jr. to me."
"What?" Mudstorm asked confused.
"My son, the fletchling you came in with."
"He told me his name was Flint."
"Oh, the boy's going into his rebellious age. He doesn't want his father's name."
"Oh." Mudstorm said. "By the way did you see my friends, we got separated in the flood."
"I haven't but someone did say they saw some figures going over to the E.S. base."
"Thank you." Mudstorm said and said it again as Flynn helped him get out from the skylight. He swam off once again with a new direction.
"Boss we failed, we couldn't get close due to the storm and flood."
"Then try again. You get one more chance seeing Agro lost Subject 237. Remember this is your last chance. Do not fail me again. Set out once the flood drains."
Mudstorm got to the E.S. base when the flood started draining. The storm had come back harder than before and he took shelter in a bakery where he met a miltank named Millie, who told him she did she Charcoal and Riptide going to the E.S. base. He left when the rain stopped.
Now he stood in front of the E.S. base door. He opened it and immediately smiled as he saw his friends there.
"There he is." Charcoal said going up to Mudstorm.
"As we were saying," an ampharos that Mudstorm didn't see started. "You guys want to start a rescue team. Now what would the name of the rescue team be?"
The three pondered as to what the name would be. Mudstorm saw steam. He looked at where the small whips of steam were coming from and saw that it was Charcoal. He had gotten wet and when the water dripped down all the way to his tail, it evaporated into water vapor. Water plus fire equals water vapor, he thought. We are water plus fire.
"I got it!" Mudstorm shouted. All heads turned to him. "How about Vapor." He then explained his reasoning.
"That's interesting. I like it." Charcoal said.
"Sounds good." Riptide said.
"Then it's settled." the ampharos said. "Welcome to the Expedition Society, Rescue Team Vapor."
After getting initiated, the team stood in front of the ampharos.
"Now, your first mission would have been delayed but all other teams are out so it's up to you. The flood water is gone but there are still trapped pokemon out there." the ampharos explained. "You and Team Storm will go out."
As if on cue, a raichu, pikachu, and pichu walked in the room.
"You two teams will work together to find and rescue any and all trapped pokemon." The ampharos finished. Then it left.
The two teams left at one, looking for ways to help.
"Where do we go?" Charcoal asked. "There were no locations of trapped pokemon. I don't want to look around for hours without finding anyone."
"The diner!" Mudstorm said enthusiastically. "When I was looking for you, I went to the diner we went to earlier today. Most of it was submerged so I got in from the roof. The door is barricaded by debris."
"Then let's go." Riptide said.
The three then took off to the diner. They were halfway there when Flynn Jr. flew over out of breath.
"We... need... help." He said panting in between each word. "The... diner is... collapsing. Wing... is... broken." Then he collapsed.
"We need to get him to the hospital." Mudstorm said.
"I'll take him." Riptide said. "I know where it is, you two go on ahead." He picked up the fletchling and ran off.
"Keep going." Charcoal said."
The two continued to go towards the the diner. When they arrived they saw that the diner was in fact about to collapse. The front was not barricaded anymore but collapsed, with the debris from the barricade around it. The roof caved in a little, making the skylight not accessible.
"How are we going to get in?" Charcoal asked.
The building started to collapse a little. Screams came from inside.
"The entrance is made out of wood, so burn open the entrance." Mudstorm suggested.
"But what if the fire spreads?" Charcoal asked.
"We can put it out. Now hurry there's not much time."
Charcoal breathed fire on the entrance. The wood burnt away and fell making an entrance. They started to get everyone out while, and some who got out started to put out the fire. Then they dispersed.
"Hey Mudstorm, come look at this." Charcoal called.
Mudstorm walked to the back of the building where Charcoal was. "What?" He asked.
"Look at the side of the building." Charcoal said. Mudstorm did. "Doesn't it look like it was punched by something. There are several others around."
"So that means..." Mudstorm started, but couldn't process it fully.
"Someone or something wanted the building to collapse."
