Closeness
Just something I felt like writing.
I hope you enjoy!
Dislcaimer: I don't own Kimetsu no Yaiba.
"Guys, have I done something wrong?" Tanjiro asked with a frown as him, Zenitsu, Inosuke and Genya ate lunch on the school rooftop.
"What do you mean?" Inosuke asked.
"It's just… Kanao has been sort of distant lately." The Kamado said sadly, moving the food around in his bento instead of actually eating. "I've been trying to think if I did something wrong and even asked her about it but she said that everything is fine."
"…you screwed up so bad." Zenitsu said out of nowhere.
"Huh? Wh-what do you mean?"
"If a girl is acting distant and says that nothing is wrong then that means she is really mad."
"Ok, no, I'm gonna have to stop you right there." Genya chimed in.
"What?" The blonde asked indignantly.
"When you get a girlfriend, then you get to give that sort of advice, not before."
"Ok, then why don't you come up with a better explanation of why Kanao is mad at him?"
"I don't think she is mad, though." The Kamado mentioned, gaining their attention once more. "I mean, we still talk like usual, spend time together, laugh… she doesn't seem mad."
"Wait then… how is she acting distant?"
"Hmm, it's like… for example; usually, Kanao and I sit at about this distance." Tanjiro said, using his hands to show the spot next to him and how Kanao would be almost touching shoulders with him. "But lately she has been sitting at about this distance." He extended his arms a bit. "And when I hold her hand or hug her she looks like she is keeping as much distance as possible without breaking contact."
"Maybe she just doesn't like hugs and stuff." Inosuke said after finishing his meal.
"No, I don't think that's it, we hugged a lot until just a while ago and she always looked happy." The red haired teen answered. "I don't know… guess I'll try asking her again and wait to see if something changes."
As if on cue, the bell rang, finishing their conversation for the time being.
A week passed and Tanjiro was still wondering what was wrong.
He did notice that Kanao didn't seem to keep as much distance when they hugged or held hands but it was still different than before she began to act strangely.
Still, other than that, their relationship was still the same; she didn't run away or made up an excuse to not see him or anything of the sort.
Tanjiro was happy about that but the question of why she suddenly began acting differently kept bugging him.
"Tanjiro." Kanao's voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Hm, yeah?"
"Are you alright?"
"Oh, yeah… just thinking." He answered.
The two were in Tanjiro's room, sitting in the small table while studying.
"Do you need help with any of the problems?"
"Not so far… I think I just need a break, do you mind if we take one?"
"Sure." The Tsuyuri answered with a smile.
"I'll go get more refreshments, make yourself comfortable." The Kamado said, standing up and leaving the room.
He came back a few moments later with a trail of beverages and some bread.
Kanao had moved and sat on his bed so Tanjiro left the trail on the table and sat beside her.
'Again.' The moment Tanjiro sat down, Kanao discretely moved a bit away from him.
"They're really good, they're from the bakery, right?" Kanao said as she took a bite of one of the breads.
"…"
"…Tanjiro?"
"Are you mad at me?" He asked directly.
"Eh… what?"
"I asked you if something was wrong before and you said that there isn't but you've been keeping your distance from me lately." The Kamado explained. "I tried to think why but I can't come up with anything; please, can you tell me if I did something wrong?"
"Wh-no! You didn't do anything wrong!" The Tsuyuri suddenly yelled.
"Then… why?"
"It's… you'll think it's stupid."
"If it worries you then it's not stupid." Tanjiro said immediately before moving a bit closer and placing his hand over hers. "Please."
"I… overheard something." She began. "It's a silly thing really, a girl in my class was sad because her boyfriend broke up with her, she was talking about that with a friend and I overheard that the reason was 'because she was too clingy' so…"
"So you thought I would break up with you for that reason?" He asked after she trailed off.
Kanao looked at the ground and nodded.
Tanjiro stayed silent for a few moments before closing their distance even more then he carefully grabbed Kanao from her waist and moved her so she was sitting on his lap before wrapping his arms around her.
"Eh, Tanjiro?!" She yelped at the sudden action.
"I love having you close." He said on her ear, resting his red face on her shoulder. "I love hugging you and the way you sometimes wrap your arms around mine if there aren't many people around." The red haired teen continued. "If you don't want to then we can stop but I promise I would never break up with you because you stay close to me." He finished.
"…sorry." The Tsuyuri said with a small smile as she rested her hands over Tanjiro's.
"It's fine." He assured her, giving her a kiss on her cheek. "I'm just glad we cleared things up, I really missed having you close, you know?" Tanjiro said while tightening the hug. "Hey… do you mind if we make up for lost time?"
"I… I'd love to." Kanao admitted.
Tanjiro kissed her cheek again before moving to the side so the two were lying on the bed.
"Ne, Tanjiro."
"Yes?"
"Could you help me take off my butterfly ornament?"
"...sure." He nodded before carefully removing said ornament so her hair was free and offering it to her. "Here you go."
"Thank you." Kanao said, taking the ornament from him before moving back a bit so her back was as close as possible to Tanjiro's torso. "I missed this."
Tanjiro smiled before planting a kiss in her hair.
"Me too."
The two stayed in that position as they talked.

.
"Tanjiro, it's getting late, Kanao should…" Tanjuro, Tanjiro's father, trailed off mid-sentence.
It has been several hours since the two started studying so he was going to tell them that it was about time to call it a day.
That idea flew out the window when he saw the two soundly sleeping in each other's arms.
Smiling fondly at the sight, he grabbed a nearby blanket and covered the two with it before exiting the room as quietly as possible.
'I guess I'll have to call the Kochos and tell them that Kanao will spend the night.' He thought with a smile as he walked back to the living room.
Happy sigh
I love writing fluff for TanKana, not only I enjoy it a lot it's just so easy for me to write about these two.
As always, I hope you liked it and don't forget to leave a comment if you did.
Until next time.
