Okay, now, before we begin, hi, I'm a bit new to Undertale. I guess you can say that I'm a late bloomer to the whole thing, I guess. So, everything I write, please don't be angry with me for deciding such factors. I'm sorry that I'm basically having a female Sans and Chara with an OC, but I assure everyone, that I'm doing this just as everyone else: making a story. And I chose underfell as the theme because... I wanted to? Not that much is shown for underfell, and I undertsand the hate that's circling about it, but please understand, everyone is entitled to their own ideas and stories.
Thank you, and I hope everyone understands!
His body felt light. Not once, had his body felt so… strange. 'Strange' was the word to put it as his surroundings were nothing but naught. He couldn't see where he was going, and he couldn't see where he was located.
He couldn't even see his own body due to the darkness that surrounds him.
He could only hear the tapping noises of his feet(shoes?) pressing against the floor, one step after another.
Until, he eventually came to a stop.
In front of him, was a source of light. This 'light' was illuminating the small portion of the floor in front of him. And so, stepping into it, he looked up to see the light continuing to what seems to be forever upward. There was no way to see where the light was even coming from.
He looked down, noticing his torn blue shirt, pants, and shoes that were more torn up than his other clothing. His sense of style was poor, but, even so, he was fine with it. Any clothing that he could have was more than fine. And to that, he smiled.
"W-who's there?" The sound of a panicked voice had caught his attention, looking straight towards the direction from where it came from.
From the door right in front of him.
"S-stay back! W-whoever you are! I-I-I can fight back!" Upon coming closer to the door, the panicked voice sounded stressed. Being worried, he opened the door, revealing a… flower? And, it appears as though that the flower was clearly shaking in fear.
'Why is it so scared?' He wondered to himself, getting a bit closer to the flower. But, before he could even get a reaction out, he was surrounded by white small pellets. They wouldn't look so dangerous if they didn't have their direction of attack pointed towards him.
"S-stay back! I-I'm warning you!" Hearing his warning, the pellets that were directed at him, began their launch. Seeing as the pellets were focused on his head, he ducked under all of them, having all of them missed their target.
"P-please, stay away! I-I don't want to be h-hurt anymore!" The voice sounded even more stressed, looking as though it was going to cry at any minute. Worried again, he stepped closer to the flower.
It pained him to see such a thing look sad…
"W-who-? A-are you… human?" Going a bit closer, the flower's tears stayed in place, and instead of the look of sadness, it was replaced with shock. Nodding his head, he bent down to the flower, getting a better look at it. Most of its plant-like features appeared to be torn up.
"W-why… are you here? D-don't you know what this place is?" The flower asked, and in response, he shook his head, shocking the flower. "H-how could you not know?! This place is littered with monsters, and you're bound to get killed down here!" He didn't do anything, he only stared at the flower with intense saddened eyes.
"W-why are you looking at me like that?" To that response, he opened his mouth.
"Hah… ar… sad…" To that, the flower looked shocked.
"You…. your voice… it's… why is there a scar around your neck?" Feeling his neck, he could feel that a bit of his throat was carved a bit inwards, disabling him to speak like he was used to.
He couldn't remember where he had gotten it from.
"A-anyway, you… can't… you can't… I don't know anymore. What's the point of living in this world?" He tilted his head, wondering what the flower meant by that. "Down here, it's "kill or be killed", Human. Every monster down here is keen on attacking anything in their way. So… if you want to get out of here, then… you have to fight, human." A brief pause of silence had split between them.
Until, he shook his head.
"N-no? Y-you won't fight? Bu-but, they're going to kill you! I almost killed you! How could you not think about survival at this time?! If they kill you, then, they'll get your soul and-wait, human… where is your soul?"
The flower began to look around his body, seeing for any traces of his soul, but, sadly, he couldn't find it.
"Human… you are a human, right? Where… is your…?" Suddenly, something bright started to illuminate from his chest, but, within that light, the flower couldn't see anything. "What… are you, Human? I've… never seen a soul do that before…"
Feeling something in his pocket, he took it out, only to reveal… nothing? But, he could have sworn that he felt something in his pocket.
"What's wrong? Wait, no… I… I think we should leave this place. There are so many things that can go wrong in this place, you know. And… I think that with my help, we can get out of this place alive! Do you… trust me?" He nodded his head.
"T-that's great! It's… been so long…" Seeing its expression sadden some more, he tilted his head again. "Huh? O-oh, don't worry about it! It's just… why do you trust me? A monster… that was about to kill you?" Another pause of silence came between them.
"...Sa...ad…" He hoped that the flower understood what he was trying to say.
"Because… I was sad? You… you… shouldn't do that anymore. Monsters here… don't care about feelings anymore. One mistake, and you're dead, human. But… if you don't want to fight… then, I won't force you to. Just… don't give in okay? Stay determined."
He nodded his head.
"Okay then, I'm… Flowey the Flower! It's nice to meet you, human! W-well, I shouldn't call you that anymore because… it's a bit rude. So… what's your name?" And another brief pause.
"...Na...me…?"
"I… h-hate… puzzles!" Flowey, who had come from under the floor from their last trap, which involved him falling through the floor a couple of times. "W-why must the ruins be littered with traps and puzzles?!"
Finding themselves in a large room filled with sleeping bags, he analyzed the area, looking for anything that could be useful to him in the near future. But, sadly, with nothing pointing out to him, there was nothing useful in the room.
So, as he and Flowey went through the room with sleeping bags, suddenly…
A toad-like monster jumped in front of him.
"H-hey, this Toaddit isn't going to go easy on you. You… need to muster up your courage and try to persuade it somehow. I-I'm counting on you!" He nodded his head, looking intently at the Toaddit in front of him. Looking red all over, the Toaddit appeared to be glaring at him, as if he had done something to it already.
"These guys aren't merciful, remember!" With fly-like objects being flung towards him, he started to dodge them, making sure that he didn't get hit by one of them. But, as you were dodging its flys…
"Hey, look out!" Looking back at the Toaddit, it opened its mouth shooting out its long and stretchy tongue to him, damaging him because he couldn't dodge it. For a toad, for its tongue to not be slimy was really strange.
"B-be careful! I know you can do it!" Flowey's encouraging words were starting to fuel him with ease. Whatever this Toaddit was upset for, he had to show it that he's not here to cause conflict. And so, running to the Toaddit, he jumped behind it, before starting to pet its head rather smoothly.
The Toaddit looked confused for a second, before eventually laying down on the ground in front him, allowing himself to melt with his petting. And after about a minute of petting, the Toaddit became white, losing what ounce of red it once had. His bright light that was close to his chest had brightened even more.
"You… you did it! I-I-I can't believe that you were able to stop the Toaddit! If you keep this up, then, maybe, you might be able to get the monsters to become-"
"My child, where are you hiding? Please, come out from wherever you are!" Hearing a womanly voice, they turned to see where it was coming from, which was in front of them. "My child, where are-hm? You… are another Human? How did you get here?" In front of them stood a woman, a goat-woman, to be clear. However, as her voice seemed rather soothing and concerned, her appearance was… out of shape. Just like his.
Her black and blood-red robe was torn at the bottom. Her eyes were wide open and yellow, with her irises being bright red in color, making her look like she was insane and exhausted. And that smile of hers… made it even unnerving.
A brief pause was between the four of them...
Including the Toaddit…
"O-oh, a monster! I-I shall get rid of it right away! Please, step away from the monster, my child, as I, Toriel, caretaker of this temple and… guardian… guardian…" Trailing off a bit, she stopped all of a sudden, staring off into space, as if she was trying to remember something. "O-oh, how clumsy of me! Please, step away from the monster, my child!" As her hand became lit with fire, he became nervous.
But, even if he was scared, he stood in front of the Toaddit, raising his hands as he was trying to protect it.
"My… child, what are you doing? Are you… why are you… protecting it?" As her fiery hands came to cease, he looked back at the Toaddit, wanting it to leave the area before Toriel tried anything else.
"Ribbit, ribbit!" It spoke, before hopping away from the area into a safe place. For some reason, he felt as though that the Toaddit was saying "thank you" to him. It… must be his imagination.
"My child… I'm terribly sorry. I… I hadn't looked at the situation in a brighter perspective. I… shall be on my way, my child. I… hope to see you soon, then." With that, she left the area, without any signs of looking back.
"She… she's Toriel. She… she's changed again. Before, she was the nicest monster here, but… she suddenly became ferocious, killing so many monsters on and on again. But… she's… acting nice again? But… why?" Thinking too much on this was making Flowey look sad again. Bending down to him, he patted his head to assure him that everything's okay.
"I… don't need a pat, Human. I'm… not an animal, you know. But… thanks, anyways. Let's… get a move on, okay? The sooner we get out of here… we can… n-nevermind me, let's just go!" Going back into the ground, Flowey left him.
'I'm not a child… I'm a teen…' Was the Human's last thought before progressing forward.
"So… many… puzzles! Okay, how long does it take to get out of these stupid ruins! I'm sick and tired of using my brain on these killer traps!" While they entered through another corridor, it was time to take a break. After all of the monsters that he had talked to, he found himself worn out. Dodging, talking, and repeating those actions were a pain to deal with. But, even then, it was worth it if he could convert these lonely creatures into nice beings.
"We can't afford to stay here, you know! If we do, then all that's going to happen is that we're going to get attacked again! C'mon!" He smiled softly to Flowey. He was right. If he continued to stay around for much longer, then, he was going to get killed, and everything that he had just did was all for nothing. Standing back up, taking a step forward…
He fell on his face.
Feeling something that made him trip, made him look back at what he had…
Wait… why was his foot cut off?
"Hey, Human… are you okay? You just… tripped. Are you… not feeling well?" After blinking, he saw his foot back into place. "If you… need rest… then I'll look out for you, then." The anger from earlier had suddenly disappeared, only for him to be saddened again.
'Am I… going crazy?' He thought to himself, before looking back to Flowey and smiled. Getting back on his butt and pushing back towards the wall, he pulled Flowey close to him.
Pushing him into a hug on his side.
"What are you-"
"Hah…" If he could laugh, he would be doing so right now. All of a sudden, his life had just gotten a bit crazy. He just now realized that he's talking to a talking flower, encountered a goat-woman, and is trying his hardest to make malicious monsters become nice. He… he's gotten crazy, hasn't he? Well, he seems sane already, and… his actions are working, too.
"Human… why did you come down here?" He heard Flowey ask.
He didn't respond to his answer.
"Was it… to die? Did you… want to forget all about your past life, and end it all right here?" He still didn't respond. "Hey, Human, do you… hate humanity? Did… are Humans still mean up there? Are they… still angry at us monsters? Why are you… so nice to monsters? They try to kill you, but you never showed an ounce of malice towards them. Instead… you just… you just… be nice to them. Why? Why do you trust me?" Flowey found his mouth continue to ask questions about the Human, wanting to know more about him…
"Humans… aren't meant to live through these ruins, you know. Six had fell here and… died. Never to see the light of the sun again, and never to see their kind again. But… they were-"
*Snore…*
Looking up to see the Human's face, Flowey was able to see his eyes were closed, and with a snot bubble coming out of his nose. He was clearly sleeping in a dangerous area like this… how funny.
"Heh… if we die out here… it wouldn't be so bad… dying with a kind Human such as yourself…" Feeling his eyes become dreary, Flowey laid his eyes to rest, allowing sleep to pilot him.
…
…
…
*Pop!*
Looking down at Flowey, he pulled him closer to his body, wanting to make sure that the flower gets as much warmth as possible. Proudly doing so, he smiled before closing his eyes again.
He smiled in the midst of danger…
And Flowey did so too…
"Human! Wake up!" Waking up, he heard the raised voice of Flowey next to him. Fully awake, he looked to his right and saw Flowey within a brown pot. Sitting up, he noticed that he had been tucked into a bed rather neatly. "Well, if you haven't noticed already, but we're in somebody's house! A-and… I have a good feeling at guessing who it is! Quick, let's hurry and get out of here!" After grabbing Flowey, he exited the room that they were sleeping within, and looked out of it, seeing nothing but glass littered on the floor.
"..." Flowey didn't say anything, instead, he patiently waited for you to move forward. And so, moving forward, he walked down the corridor, seeing a chair next to a couple of bookshelves. Again, there was glass littered across the floor.
"..." Again, Flowey didn't speak. And again, the Human stepped forward.
Now, finding a staircase, they walked down it, seeing where it would be leading towards.
"My child… what are you doing down here?" Finding themselves at the end of the staircase, they found Toriel, who was standing in the middle of the corridor, patiently waiting for them to answer.
And in front of them… was a trail of dust.
"These… are the remains of monsters who die. She… killed them…" Flowey finally spoke, but it wasn't for something pleasant.
"Yes… I did kill them. A long time ago, I believed that… there was no such thing as mercy. The monsters showed no signs of letting up their attack to anyone that they could find, killing monsters, and even Humans. After living with them for such a peaceful time… I wouldn't have thought that us, the monsters, would become "monsters". We cherished the lives of others, whether Human or not, we treated them as equals. She stared at the Human sadly.
"After being betrayed and abandoned, us monsters… who suffer from our losses of family and friends, become what we disgust. Even for me… a mother of two children, has learned what it means to lose and bear with pain. Eventually… I lost myself. I lost the path that I had once chosen before, after… losing them. I… had my fair share in bloodshed as much as another monster would say." She had already been crying.
"Walk with me a bit, please. Flower… I must ask you, why do you trust Humans? Even after all that we've suffered, why do you choose to stand close to one?" She asked Flowey. And… Flowey seems to be hesitating a bit.
"I…"
"Even after she fell down, why must you trust this one?" He didn't know what Toriel meant by that, but he guessed that Flowey already knew who she was talking about.
"Because… I don't know." That surprises Toriel.
"You… don't know?"
"I don't know! I've been asking myself the same thing, but… I can't seem to figure it out!" Flowey started to tear up a bit, causing the Human to pat Flowey's head.
"...I see. Then… I must ask of you, please, protect him."
"H-huh?"
"I can't explain it myself, either, young one. When we had first met, I couldn't believe my eyes when I watched another child manage to calm down such a vengeful monster. It spread joy across my heart to even see such a thing again. But… if I may… I must say that I believe that humans and monsters might be able to become equal again." Stopping in front of a purple door, she looked back at us.
"You… believe that? Just… by seeing us together?" Flowey asks, almost as if he's making her sound crazy.
"Haha… I know it sounds strange, but… I believe it. Please, take it from this once lost woman that it might be able to happen. But… you must think that I 'GOAT' to be crazy, right?"
…
…
"I'm sorry… just… trying to lighten the mood up a bit." Smiling at her, he thought it was funny. "Here… is the end of the ruins, my child. Everything past this door… will show you no mercy. But, I guess you already heard those words a dozen of times, correct? And… you don't seem to be frightened with that mind, either. I don't need to test how strong you are because… you already seem to become friends with a monster without any help."
He stood there, looking at the purple door as it was the last door that he would have to be crossing. And, with Toriel stepping by, she allowed them to go past the door.
"Thank you, my child, for staying so strong. Please, remember to stay determined, even in the midst of disaster. So… farewell, my child, as I will be reconciling with myself, and those who survived the massacres within." Stepping toward her, even when she looks crazy, even when she looks distressed…
He hugged her.
"My child, what are you…"
"I'm… so...rry… an...d… than...k… you." With her eyes widening, she began to shed a bit of tears.
"There's no need to be sorry, my child. You don't need to… apologize to those who did the wrong thing. Especially, you don't have to apologize for your kind. When they're ready to speak to us again, then… we can talk. Stay safe on your travels, my child, as they are going to be hard for you." Letting go of her, he looked up to see her face, which slightly displayed her eyes without the craziness. For once… he felt warmth.
And for once, he had to say goodbye to someone who was still hurting.
"Are you… sure that you're ready? Like Toriel said, what's past this door will be nothing but pain for you." He nodded his head, assuring him that he was ready. "You… really are something, you know. I… don't know you're history, but I can tell that you're determined. I wish to know who hurt you, but I'm guessing that I won't get an answer. Well… this is it. Once we exit through here, we… are out of here. Anything can happen after this."
He nodded, before pressing forward to open the door.
"Mari." Hearing that, he turned around to Flowey, who was back towards him. "It's… short for Marigold. Do you… like it? I'm… not good with names, but I figured that… I'd give my first friend a name." Walking back towards him, he picked up Flowey and hugged him.
"Love… it…" He spoke, before opening the door to the unknown.
"It's… like fresh air!" With their first step outside, they began to walk through a long path that was surrounded by trees. With happiness being Flowey's first reaction, Mari couldn't help but smile as well. "Say… what's driving you to become nice to these monsters?" Mari tilted his head a bit.
"Not...thing...rong…with…ice.." Flowey seemed to understand what Mari was saying.
"Nothing wrong, huh? Well… I wonder if there ever is a world where guys are nice. Would… a lot of things change? A-and… if you don't mind me asking… what are your plans after returning to the surface?" As they found a bridge that they were about to cross, something in the bushes near made a noise. "W-what was that?!"
Mari stared at the bushes for some time, before walking ahead again. Something, or someone was following them. They need to hurry and get out of there before whatever is hiding from them catches them.
Pushing Flowey's head in his chest, Mari began to run.
"M-Mari, wait a second! You-mphmh!" Crossing the bridge was easy enough, but… the problem was that there was… someone ahead of them. And it appeared… to be a woman at a stand. And… a HUMAN woman in fact. Quickly going between one of the trees to stay out of sight, he heard the sound of footsteps.
"SANS!" Hearing the sound of an angry man, Mari was able to get a quick peek at what he was hearing.
"I'M UP! B-boss, h-how's the search g-going?" Seeing the woman who was behind the stand become a bit scared of the… skeleton man, he continued to watch on. The woman… wore a black winter jacket with a fur hood on top of a red sweater. That was all he could see as she was behind a stand.
"I SHOULD BE ASKING YOU THE SAME THING, SANS! FOR WHAT REASON, AM I FINDING YOU ASLEEP ON THE JOB?!"
"S-sorry! I was just… tired from the lack of sleep last night. I-It's not that big of a-"
"OF COURSE IT'S A BIG OF A DEAL,SANS! I SWEAR, IF I FIND YOU SLEEPING ON THE JOB AGAIN, I'LL-"
"I told you that it wasn't that big of a deal! I'm fine, Boss! Even if something went past me, you would be there to see them coming! Lay off, will ya?!" Getting an attitude, she raised her voice that appeared to be her boss.
"I… I'M SORRY, SANS. I… LOST MY TEMPER FOR A SECOND THERE. ARE YOU… UNWELL BECAUSE OF YOUR… SCREAMS AT NIGHT?" She seemed to calm down, but she chose to let out a sigh.
"I'm… fine, they're just nightmares, they go away eventually, you know. You can… get back to whatever you were doing, I'll just stay here and-"
"NO! I-I MEAN… IT'S NOT NECESSARY. YOU CAN HEAD BACK HOME NOW, WE CAN PICK THIS UP TOMORROW, OKAY? REST WELL AND EASY, YOU UNDERSTAND?" With that, the tall skeleton man had walked away, leaving the girl to her stand alone.
"Hey, you can come on out." What? Did… she know that he was-
"I said get the hell out here!" After raising her voice, Mari followed her command and came from out of his hiding spot. "So… a Human had almost managed to get past me, huh? Tch, what a pain. Well then, I'm guessing you already saw my brother Papyrus there, huh? Yeah, he's what you call a Human Hunter Maniac. He's a chill dude when you get to know him." Mari didn't respond at first, but nodded his head.
"So, what's your name, huh?" Why… was she acting nice to him? Toriel warned him of those who will show no mercy, but… why wasn't she being hostile to him? Is it because she's… like that? She… couldn't be one of his kind, right?
"His name's Mari! Now, tell us what you want so you'll leave!" Flowey spoke out, after moving away from Mari's chest.
"A talking piece of weed?! A-anyway, Mari? Isn't… that a girl's name or something?"
"Hey! I came up with the name, and he likes it! So bugger off, why don't you?!" For some reason, Flowey appeared very hostile against Sans.
"Pssh! You gave him that name?! Hah! That's a-wait, you named him? You mean… he doesn't have an actual name?" She asked. And to that, Mari shook his head. "Well, judging from your appearance… you haven't seen brighter days, have ya'? I mean, look at your clothes! You're going to freeze to death if you don't get some new ones! Look, if you follow me, then, I'll help you get some clothes." She offered.
"You think we're just going to follow someone we just met?! You must be even dumber than you look!" Flowey insulted, which made Sans grow a tick mark.
"Another word from out of that talking piece of weed, and it's toast! I'm asking him, not you!" Before Flowey could say anything, Mari put his finger on his lips, motioning Flowey to not say anything. "Good, now, what do you say? I know we just met, but I swear, I won't put you in any danger at all, okay?" I didn't want to trust her… but if what she says is true, then, getting new clothes would be beneficial. It was getting cold, too.
"A-alright! Just follow me, okay?!" For some reason, she seemed pleased that she was able to convince Mari. "Oh, and… did you meet a girl with brown hair that's wearing the same clothes as me?" Mari shook his head. "Good. Because… if you do… stay away from her. She's bad news, okay?"
Mari has never felt so nervous before.
