Takes place after end of season 2. I know there is a manga that is ongoing as well as a spin off manga but this is just my take on what I think could happen. Enjoy!
Nishikata stared out his window at the summer rain falling hard upon the street. He liked the rain, not so much for the getting wet aspect, but for the atmosphere it created. It was dark but not too dark, and the puddles reflected the gloomy sky perfectly. It was like he was looking at a painting. It was beautiful.
Like her...
The summer festival had only been a few days ago and ever since that night, Nishikata struggled to keep her off of his mind. Takagi, she used to be so annoying. The moment he saw her he would immediately be plotting against her, trying his hardest to win over her - just once. While all she ever did was tease him and make his life a living hell.
Not like that had changed much. But, now he thought of it differently. He no longer immediately resorted to his defensive attitude - he saw her as a friend. She was a friend, a close one at that. It all changed with that festival, ever since then he couldn't help but linger on her smiling face every time she's teased him. Staring at her from across rooms, thinking of her constantly, it was like she had permanently left a mark on his brain.
Hell, that was happening before the festival too.
It was only a week or so before school started, and from there he would see Takagi every day once more. The tease count would be going back up - but he would also get to interact with her more. He, liked the idea of that.
He shook his head a little and stood up from the bedside window, maybe this weather wasn't all that good. It made him feel bored and unproductive. He had finished his summer homework with Takagi last week, and now he had nothing to do but wait around. His parents were not even home, they had taken a few days off from work to have a "romantic get-away" as they called it. He shivered at the idea of his parents being romantic, it wasn't the worst thing in the world but he'd rather not think about it.
All of this, of course, left him to fend for himself for the last week of summer. Cook all of his own meals, go food shopping if he had to, tidy the house up a bit. He hated it, but on the bright side it gave him much more time to play video games, watch anime, and read manga.
Unfortunately he finished all of 100% Unrequited Love yesterday, and the new chapters didn't come out for another week. He would have to pick a new series to watch soon.
While picking up his phone from his desk, his stomach grumbled. Maybe a snack was a good idea - he left his room and went down to the kitchen.
He quickly found his favorite flavor of ramen and started to boil the water. Pork miso, he hadn't eaten that flavor for a while, all the stores were out of it for the summer. Thankfully he was the only one crazy enough to walk to the store in this rain - he picked up some groceries earlier that day.
Sitting at the kitchen table, he took note of the lack of light in his house. He liked it, the cool light from the windows gave the place a nice aesthetic.
Buzz* Buzz*
Snapping him out of his trance, his phone vibrated violently against the lacquered wood. He quickly reached for it, looking at the notification. It was a message...from Takagi.
He opened it, reading the contents aloud,
Takagi: Hey! what are you doing?
He smiled lightly at the cute cat gif she sent along with it, his fingers tapped the digital keys,
Nishikata: just making ramen, I'm really bored.
It was taking a few seconds for her to respond, he looked over to his boiling water and saw that it was done. He opened his ramen and poured the scolding water inside, mixing the contents with chopsticks, and then placing said chopsticks on top so it could cook
He glanced back at his phone, she had responded -
Takagi: That sounds so good, I'm bored too! It's like everyone decided to do their homework the last week and no one is free. Plus this rain is annoying.
He smiled once more -
Nishikata: I guess, but I like the rain. It's got a cool ambiance.
He paused for a second, thinking over his next words. She's bored huh? Maybe... his eyes darted to the window and noticed that the rain had seemed to clear up a bit. Biting his lower lip, he took a deep breath and moved his fingers. No harm in asking.
Nishikata: Do you want to come over?
A small blush formed on his face as he hit the send button. He felt a little weird asking her over, especially when no one else was here, but it's not like she hadn't come over before. Plus if they both were bored, might as well be bored together -
Takagi: You want me over your house?
His blush grew tenfold as he read her words, why did she have to tease all the time!? He moved to reply, and had to catch himself from sending back a 'Yes!'
Nishikata: Takagi-San it's not like that!
Within 15 seconds he received back a video of Takagi laughing hysterically. He growled, but his anger dissipated as his eyes danced across the screen. She looked...really cute. Her cheeks seemed a bit more rosy then usual as well - must be his imagination.
Shaking his head and going back to his messages app; he saw she sent another one.
Takagi: I would love to, but isn't it raining now?
Nishikata: It's actually clearing up right now, it's ok if you don't want to but now might be your only chance before it picks up again.
Takagi: Alright! I'll be there in a minute, make me some ramen too!
His lips stretched into a wide smile before he placed his phone back down on the kitchen table. He walked over to the cabinet and surveyed the ramen he had left, thankfully he had bought a good amount this morning. Choosing another pork miso flavor, he opened it up and poured some boiling water in it.
Remembering his ramen, Nishikata licked his lips and undid the paper cover. It was perfectly cooked, large pieces of Naruto floated in the steamy pork broth. It looked delicious!
He took a few sips of the broth and chewed on some noodles before he heard the doorbell ring. Placing down his warm meal, he hurried to the door and opened it to find non other then Takagi.
"Hey Nishikata!" She smiles brightly, "Thanks for having me!"
"Um - ya no problem," Nishikata peered outside to see the rain had almost stopped, "hopefully it wasn't too wet out."
Shaking her head, Takagi closed her umbrella and placed it on his porch, "It was fine," she walked into his house and smirked at the boy, "are your parents home?"
"No, their gone for the week on vacation," he noticed her growing smug look, "W-What is it?"
As she took off her shoes and placed them by the door, Takagi shot a playful glance at him, "What did you expect us to do in your house, while your parents aren't here?"
He immediately stammered back, his entire face getting red, "W-What?! No! You said you were bored! And I was bored! So I thought that-"
Loud laughter cut over his plea, and it was easy to tell that Takagi had once again teased him. He watched as the girl nearly doubled over in laughter, her mouth wide open and tears of joy rimming her squinted eyes.
"Takagi-san!" Nishikata started but then immediately gave up as he watched her come down from her laughing high, "You know what - never mind. Do you want your ramen?"
He turned around and walked back into his kitchen, finding his half finished Ramen bowl next to her steaming one. That was odd, he wanted to be mad. To challenge her or try to tease her back...but he couldn't stay mad at her when she was happy like that.
Takagi had followed him into his kitchen and sniffed the aroma coming from the bowls, "Smells delicious! What flavor did you make?"
"Pork miso," he undid her ramen cover and handed her the bowl, "Sorry, I should have asked what flavor you wanted."
Takagi smiled warmly as she took the bowl, "It's fine! I love pork miso ramen! Thank you!"
The two took a few bites from their ramen each, before Takagi looked to Nishikata curiously.
"So Nishikata, what did you wanna do? We already finished our homework."
Nishikata pondered seriously for a moment, "Well...I was going watch some anime before you texted - if you want we can do that?"
Takagi nodded with a smile, "Ya! But I'll have you know I already finished 100% Unrequited Love."
A small blush formed on Nishikata's cheeks, "S-So?"
She smiled once more, "Oh come on Nishikata, we both know, that I know, that you love that series."
His eyes widened at her observation - and before he knew it the blush on his face grew even more. Why was she so good at doing that?
"Alright," he sighed in defeat, carrying his bowl past Takagi towards his steps, "Come on we can pick the anime in my room."
Giggling, Takagi followed the boy with glee.
As they reached his room, Nishikata crouched down next to his desk and found a box of dvds - all containing some of the anime he had been wanting to watch.
"Let's see," Takagi grabbed a few of the CD's, "There's Dragon Ball, One Piece, Noragami - Ooh! I heard a lot of great things about Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood!"
He glanced over to Takagi full of surprise, "W-Wow. I never knew you were into anime Takagi-San."
She shrugged her shoulders, "My older brother used to watch some with me when I was younger before he went to college," she placed all of them except the Full Metal Alchemist CD back in the box, "I've also read a lot of the manga for these - just never saw the anime."
Nodding and pushing the box back, Nishikata stood up walked over to his TV. It was kinda cool that Takagi was into anime, really cool actually.
"Alright, we can watch it with this," he turned back and reached his hand out, "Can I have it?"
After taking the dvd he placed it in the player. It immediately popped up on screen. Takagi walked next to him and smiled, "I made sure to pick one we could finish in a day or two if we wanted - the other ones are hundreds of episodes long."
He opened his mouth slightly in surprise, "T-Thank you Takagi-san."
The two sat in front of the screen, chewing their ramen and watching the show. It was interesting, well...to be truthful Nishikata had already seen it. It was one of his favorites, but he could tell Takagi hadn't before. He thought it would be fun to see her reactions, plus he didn't mind re-watching the show.
After finishing their ramen, a small silence started to grow in between them. Not like they were talking before, but now Nishikata became painfully aware of every movement she made. He made it a point to watch her reactions - and it was clear that she was into it. Or...maybe she wasn't? He could never tell anything from her facial expressions.
Given her silence however, he assumed she was paying close attention. She hadn't teased him in a while as well, that was a good sign.
The opening to the second episode began and as if on cue Takagi turned her head to the boy and smirked, "Hey Nishikata, wanna watch it on your bed?"
...
"Heh?"
