Welcome to my new story, Kalos Journeys! This will narrate the adventures of Ash Ketchum of Vaniville Town across the Kalos region with his best friends, May Maple and Serena Maple.

Prologue
Vaniville Town
Two boys stepped out of the taxi. One had raven black hair and auburn eyes. He was five years old and was wearing a blue collared shirt with short sleeves, white trim, a black undershirt, darker blue jeans, a red and white hat, and red high top sneakers (Kalos Clothes). The other boy had straight, chin-length black hair with auburn eyes and wore a dark red hat with sunglasses. He also wore a blue track jacket with white stripes, navy blue slim fit pants, and black combat boots with blue laces.
Both of them looked around the town and saw a small, quaint and quiet town with a few houses and a Pokemon Centre. This town reminded them of their home, Pallet Town.
"Mom, why did we have to move here, again?"
"Honey, your father was given the post of Kalos Champion. This was a big break for him."
The boy huffed.
"It will be okay Calem. We'll make some new friends."
"Easy for you to say, Ash. You're always the best at making friends."
His dad came out of his new house, "You're here! This will be our new home, Vaniville Town."
"I miss Leaf and Gary!"
"It's okay, Calem. My best friend lives here. He has fraternal twin daughters about your age. I'm sure you'll be the best of friends."
"Really?" Ash asked with sparkling eyes.
His dad ruffled his messy hair, and laughed at Ash's excitement, "Why don't we meet them right now?"
"What are we waiting for?" Ash asked practically jumping up and down.
"Ok, ok. Let's go." His dad grabbed Ash's and Calem's hand and went to two houses beside them.
"Norman, come out!" He shouted towards a house.
After a few moments, A man came out of the house, followed by two girls. One of them had honey hair and the other had brown hair.
"Red, it's good to see you again"
"Same here, Norman. Norman, I'd like you to meet my son."
"Hi, I'm Ash," Ash spoke up from beside his father.
"I'm Calem."
"Hi, Ash and Calem. I'm Norman Maple and these are my daughters May Maple and Serena Maple. I also have a son, Max, but he is asleep."
"Hi, May. I hope we can be good friends." Calem held out his hand, with new-found confidence.
"Hi. I hope that we can be good friends too." She grabbed his hand in a firm handshake.
The girl with honey hair hid behind her father a bit, "H...Hi, Ash."
"Hi, Serena. I hope that we can be good friends too."
"Ok." She also shook his hand.
"Don't mind her. She's a bit shy. Once she becomes comfortable around you, she'll be much responsive."
"Hey! I'm responsive." Serena responded, slightly miffed.
"Now, that the introductions are done, why don't you four get to know each other."
All four of them went towards the park that was located in the town and sat down on the swings and began talking.
"Do you think they'll be good friends?" Norman asked his best friend.
"Just like us, without a doubt," Red said after seeing the children interact with each other.
"Now, keep an eye on them. I've got to talk to my wife." Red departed towards his wife.
With the Kids
"So, We're fraternal twins, originally from the Hoenn region where our father was a Gym Leader. He decided to retire and took a job here in Kalos as a Pokemon Researcher and Expert. He doesn't go out much but sometimes he goes to various cities and all."
"What about your parents?" May asked the boys.
"We're also fraternal twins, originally from the Kanto Region. You see, our father had travelled around the various regions when he was young, where he won the conferences in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. After that, he found some time to just settle down. Just a year ago, Charles Goodshow…"
"Who's Charles Goodshow?" Serena cut in.
Ash and Calem both fell off their swings. They got up with a shocked expression, "You don't know who Charles Goodshow is?"
Both of them shook their heads.
"He is the president of the League Competition Committee, which is the committee that governs all the regional leagues." Calem added the last part after seeing their confused expressions, "He asked our dad to take over the post of Kalos Champion. He accepted and now we're here."
"Wow, you've got so much to live up to."
"I know, but one day I will defeat my father in a Pokemon Battle." Ash declared.
The children continued to talk for a while, the topics ranging from their favourite things to their birthdays. This talking had created a new bond between the four of them which went deeper than friendship.
Serena said, "Our birthday is on May 22."
Ash fell again.
"What is it this time?" Serena asked.
"Our birthday is also on May 22!"
"Whoo! That means that all four of us can celebrate our birthdays together and depart on our journeys together as well." May cheered as she hugged them.
The four hugged each other.
This was their beginning. The beginning of a bond for years to come.
5 Years Later
The town of Vaniville was quiet. Well, except for one particular house.
"ASH! RED! WAKE UP!" Delia shouted from the kitchen. She got no response.
"Sometimes I hate that the two of them are so alike," Delia grumbled as she walked up to where Red's and her Pokemon were sleeping.
"You and me both, mom." Calem agreed from the other side of the kitchen.
"Thankfully, you're more like me, Calem."
She poked two certain yellow mice, "Pi and Pika, wake up."
Pika woke up very slowly and he was tired, Pi, who was Delia's Pikachu was also tired, but the next sentence removed all sleep.
"Go wake up Red and Ash." Pika and Pi got an evil smirk on their faces. This was the best part of being a part of the Ketchum Residence. Pika ran up the stairs and entered Red and Delia's room. Pi ran up to Ash and Calem's room.
Pika and Pi started gathering electricity,
"Piiiiiiikaaaaaaaaaa...CHUUUUUUU!" Two simultaneous voices were heard across the houses. Pika shot a powerful thunderbolt towards Red, who jolted up, instantly. He looked around and saw his partner laughing on the ground.
He took a pillow and flung it at Pika, "Damn you, Pika. You sure enjoy torturing your trainer."
Meanwhile, Pi also shot a Thunderbolt towards Ash.
Ash woke up with a jolt and looked at Pi with murderous eyes. He pounced at Pi.
"I'LL KILL YOU, PI!" He roared as the mouse ran out of his house. He freshened up and changed his clothes. He was now wearing black jeans along with a black jacket and a blue shirt. He was also wearing black fingerless gloves. (Almost like Alain's Clothes)
He got out of his room, grumbling, "Even on your birthday, you have to wake up because of a thunderbolt."
"Hey, kiddo." His father walked alongside him.
"You too?"
"Yep. Happy Birthday."
"Thanks. I have to meet up with May and Serena after breakfast."
Red nodded. The four of them had become unbreakable. Nothing could break them apart. They had become best friends without realising.
They walked down and were greeted by the heavenly smell of breakfast. Both father and son ran down the stairs and scarfed down their breakfast in a matter of minutes.
"Seconds please." Both of them said at the same time.
Delia shook her head at the daily occurrence.
"Happy Birthday, bro," Calem said to his brother.
"Happy Birthday to you too little brother."
"I'm not your little brother! We're twins."
"Keep telling yourself that. I'm older by 3 minutes." Ash ruffled his brother's hair.
After breakfast, Ash and Calem ran to their meeting place. The park. May and Serena were already there.
"Happy Birthday!" All four of them shouted at the same time.
"So, ready for the party?" Ash asked.
"Of course."
May spoke up, "I've got some interesting news."
"What?" The three of them asked.
"It seems that our fathers have planned a special surprise for each of us. One that the mothers do not know about."
"And how did you get this information?" Serena narrowed her eyes.
"I might have snuck in Dad's bedroom and heard him talking to their father."
"May, how many times do I have to tell you…"
"Jeez! Today's our birthday. Can't you stop with your lectures for once?"
"Why you…" That's when they began fighting. They pulled off their bandanna and hat and started pulling each other's hairs and punching each other.
Ash couldn't believe it. Calem was laughing his ass off at the scene much like him in Pallet Town. Ash, however, was the one to play Leaf's role here. It was often Leaf who did what Ash was about to do.
Ash pulled both their ears, "Ladies. Ladies. Calm down. It's our birthday. Let's enjoy it."
They both got up and straightened their hair and put on their respective headgear. They looked at each other and Ash saw malicious intent in their eyes. This was gonna be bad.
They looked at Ash and Calem.
"Oh no, you don't." Ash ran away as fast as he could. Calem, however, was unlucky. He tripped. Ash turned around to see his brother being harassed by the two sisters.
"Save me, brother! Save me from these sorcerers."
"Nope. Enjoy!" Ash ran away as fast as he could.
This was usually their daily routine. Ash would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy it.
Ketchum Residence
A Few Hours Later
"...Happy Birthday to you." Everyone clapped as the two pairs of twins cut their respective cakes.
They were about to assault each other with the cream from their cakes but their fathers stopped them.
"Now, before the cream madness, we would like to talk to you in the backyard," Red whispered.
They nodded and made their way to the backyard. There they saw Norman with four eggs standing along with Red.
"Now," Norman began, "These gifts are from us. Before we continue, I have a question. What age are children supposed to begin their Pokemon Journeys?"
Serena spoke up, "14."
"Wrong," Red replied.
"It's different for different regions. In Kanto, Johto and Hoenn, children begin their journeys at the age of 10 but in Sinnoh and Unova, trainers begin their journeys at the age of 12 and in Kalos, they begin their journeys at the age of 14."
"Very good, Ash," Red confirmed Ash's knowledge.
"Now, as Red and I are from Kanto and Hoenn we have to stick to our roots. So, your birthday gifts this year from me are your first Pokemon."
"Huh?"
"Yes. These four eggs contain the Hoenn starters, Torchic, Mudkip and Treecko and the Kanto starter Charmander."
All four of them had slightly worried expressions.
Red began, "Don't worry. You'll still get your official starter Pokemon and Pokedex from Professor Sycamore in 4 years."
The four friends sighed in relief.
"Wait a minute. How would that happen? We would already have our first Pokemon." May voiced her concern.
"Being the Champion, had its perks."
"Back to the point. Now, each of you will choose the Pokemon that you want."
The four nodded.
"Can I go first?" May asked.
"Sure, May. It's all yours." Ash told her.
"I want Torchic."
"Very well," Norman said and handed the red and yellow egg to Serena.
"I want Charmander," Calem declared.
"Here you go."
"I want Treecko," Ash told the parents.
"That leaves Serena with Mudkip."
"Serena, if you want we can trade. I'm okay with any."
Serena smiled, "That's fine, Ash. I wanted Mudkip anyways."
"Ok then. Dad, what's your gift?"
"Before I give my gift, do you know anything about Mega Evolution?"
"Nope."
"Nothing."
"Nada."
"Nyet."
"Ok, sit down."
The four of them sat down.
Red began, "As we all know, that Pokemon evolve. But there is a final stage of evolution, after which a Pokemon does not evolve. Now, in the Kalos region, it has been discovered that certain Pokemon can evolve further than their final evolution stages."
"What?" said the bewildered expressions of the three children.
"The thing is, Mega Evolution adds another evolutionary stage but it is only temporary. That means after a battle, the Pokemon reverts to its original form."
Ash was jumping up and down of joy, "I want to see it. I want to see it."
Red laughed at his son's antics, then he called out his Charizard who was wearing a metal band on his tail with a sparkling orange stone.
"Now, Mega Evolution requires three important things. A Keystone which remains with the trainer. A Mega Stone which is different for every Pokemon. Some Pokemon may have 2 Mega Stones, like Charizard. Charizard has 2 Mega Stone Charizardite X and Charizardite Y. Its mega forms are called Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. The third and most crucial thing is the bond. A strong unbreakable bond between trainer and Pokemon. That will enable the pair to use Mega Evolution. Now, observe."
Red pulled up his sleeve which revealed a sparkling stone with a DNA symbol engraved in it.
"Keystone, listen to my heart. Beyond evolution, Mega Evolution." Red touched his Mega Bracelet and the rays from both his Keystone and the stone on Charizard's tail joined each other and Charizard was covered in bright light.
Once the light died out, Charizard roared into the sky and a DNA multi-coloured DNA symbol appeared above it.
Now, Charizard was not quite what it used to be. He now had a huge horn between the two original horns. His tail had become spikier. He had also gained small wings on his hands. His wings had become bigger and spikier.
"Whoa!"
"Yes, whoa. This is Mega Charizard Y. Now, as you have seen what Mega Evolution is, I believe Charizard can revert to his original form." With that, Charizard regained his original form and was recalled.
"Now, on to the gifts. I will be giving each of you a Keystone and a Mega Stone for the Pokemon you have chosen once you depart for your journeys."
He brought out four sparkling white stones which were embedded in various form.
"Serena gets the Mega Necklace, Calem gets the Mega Bracelet, May gets the Mega Earring Ash gets the Mega Glove." They all accepted the Keystones and wore it as they were meant to be.
"Now, go and put the eggs in Ash and Calem's room. Then you can enjoy the party."
They nodded and ran towards the room to place the eggs.
Each of them vowed that they would take the best care of the Pokemon in their respective eggs.
2 Years Later
Ash was currently walking down Route 1 to train his Treecko.
"We've been walking for so long, can't we just stop?" Treecko complained.
It turns out that Ash was able to understand any Pokemon that he developed a bond with, be it wild or captured. That's why he could understand every word that Treecko spoke. He did not understand the cause of this but he was sure he could develop it further.
"Now, now, Treecko. We have to train. You might be the strongest of all four but you're the only one that hasn't evolved. I'm fine with that but you aren't. That's why we have to train every day."
Treecko scoffed, " I don't need to evolve for those wimps. I need to evolve so that we can beat Charizard."
Treecko had often challenged Charizard but he always lost. He saw only Charizard as his one true rival.
The other three in this conversation were May's Combusken, Serena's Marshtomp and Calem's Charmander.
"You and me both, Treecko. You and me both." Ash's true dream was to become a Pokemon Master and for that, he had to defeat his father.
May wanted to achieve the title of Grand Duchess at the Battle Chateau, Serena wanted to become the next Kalos Queen and Calem wanted to win the Lumiose Conference at least once.
Ash was broken out of his thoughts by a loud cry.
"Treecko, let's investigate." Treecko nodded and followed Ash through the trees.
There, they saw a Mankey harassing a Pichu.
"Hey, stop it!" Ash stood in between the Pichu and Mankey.
"Why is he protecting me?" Pichu asked Treecko.
"Ash is a very good person, he does not let any Pokemon get hurt, even if it means that he would be hurt."
"Really?"
"Yes. I've been with him since I had hatched from an egg. He took such good care of me that he's now able to understand me."
Pichu was amazed by the trainer in front of him. He must be a very good person.
Meanwhile, Ash was dodging the punches thrown by Mankey. He was doing good till Mankey used Thrash. Ash was hit multiple times and was severely injured. Mankey continued using Thrash, which did not help Ash's condition.
Treecko saw this and lost his temper. Treecko used Pound but that didn't do much. Treecko was getting angrier by the second when he unleashed a flurry of leaves at the Mankey which sent him blasting.
Treecko had just used Leaf Storm.
"Awesome, Treecko," Ash said from behind him weakly. "You just used Leaf Storm." That's when Ash lost consciousness.
"Ash! Get up, Ash! Ash, you can't leave me!"
Pichu saw this and tried to use Thundershock to jolt the human so that he could regain consciousness. But it was to no avail.
Treecko tried dragging Ash but Ash was too heavy for him to move alone. Even Pichu tried to help but they couldn't do anything.
Treecko broke down, "Ash, wake up. Please."
Even Pichu had some tears in his eyes seeing the scene before him.
"Arceus, please save him. I have to help him. He's done so much for me." Treecko tried pulling Ash again but fell of exhaustion.
Suddenly, Treecko was enveloped in white light. When the light died down, Treecko wasn't there. Instead, Grovyle was there. Grovyle looked down at his form and realised that he could now help Ash.
Grovyle propped up Ash against his back and ran towards Vaniville Town. Pichu followed them because it felt slightly guilty. It was because of him that the human was injured.
They entered Vaniville town and went towards the Pokemon Centre as fast as they could. On the way, they were spotted by Calem, May and Serena.
After seeing Ash's condition, Serena ran forward first and started helping Grovyle carry Ash. She knew better than to ask questions. Right now, Ash needed help.
'Ash please be okay. I don't know what I'll do if you don't get up.' Serena thought as she dragged Ash to the Pokemon Centre.
Meanwhile, Calem and May had gone to call their parents.
They entered the Pokemon Centre.
"Oh dear, what happened?" Nurse Joy asked as they brought Ash into the centre.
"I have no idea. Ash was being dragged by Grovyle and they were being followed by this Pichu. He was very injured. Please make sure he's okay, Nurse Joy."
"I will try my best, Serena."
Meanwhile, Wigglytuff had rolled out a stretcher for Ash. They helped Ash onto the stretcher and Nurse Joy took him to the emergency room.
Soon after, Red, Delia, Norman, Caroline, Calem, Max and May had arrived.
Serena was almost close to tears at that point. She hugged her mom and cried her heart out.
"It's okay, Serena. He'll be fine." Caroline consoled her daughter. Everyone was in a sombre mood. Red looked as if he was about to punch something. If Delia was not there, he would have. Calem and May were sitting in a corner, close to tears.
Grovyle was seated with the other Pokemon and Pichu.
"It's all my fault. If I had been stronger I could have defeated that Mankey." Pichu took all the blame.
"If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I should have acted sooner. I should have dragged him sooner."
"That's enough." Pika told both of them, "We can't do anything now. We can just hope that he will be fine."
All of the Pokemon nodded.
They all waited for a few hours when Nurse Joy came out.
"He's stable," Everyone sighed in relief, "But, he's still in critical condition. He's unconscious right now. So, we might have to observe him tonight and maybe more. I suggest that you all go home."
Everybody nodded except one person and two Pokemon.
"I'm not going anywhere till Ash wakes up." Serena declared to everyone.
Grovyle and Pichu agreed with Serena.
"But…" Caroline began but she was cut off.
"I don't care. I'll stay with him till he wakes up. That's final," Serena said with determination in her eyes.
Caroline was about to protest but she was interrupted by Norman. He whispered something to her and she reluctantly agreed.
The others went away, Serena turned to Nurse Joy, "Can I be with him, right now?"
"Sure."
Serena, Grovyle and Pichu went to his room and Serena sat down next to Ash.
She grabbed his hand out of instinct. She was shocked by the action herself but shrugged it off.
"Wake up soon, Ash. I'll be waiting." She set her head down beside him and drifted off.
Grovyle smiled a bit at the scene but he was exhausted, so, he along with Pichu laid on the ground and drifted off.
Next Morning
Ash slowly woke up. He was still sore from the beating he had taken from Mankey.
He opened his eyes and was greeted by honey-blond hair on his hands. He pushed them back and saw that it was Serena.
When he saw her peaceful expression, he felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in his chest. He didn't know what it was, so, he shrugged it off. His movements had slowly woken up Serena.
"Morning, Serena."
Serena's eyes widened when she saw Ash awake and she gave him a bone-crushing hug.
"Serena...can't...breathe." Ash barely spoke up from the hug.
Serena quickly released him and looked him in the eyes.
Ash saw her bloodshot blue eyes and felt immensely guilty.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For making you worry."
Serena shook her head, "It's okay. But, I need you to promise me that you will not run headfirst into any reckless situation."
"I promise."
Boy, was he wrong.

That's a wrap. Hope you enjoyed the Prologue. This story will borrow tidbits from both anime and games but it will roughly follow the games. You can give suggestions for which episodes of the anime you want to include in the story in the reviews. When giving these suggestions, remember to give episode number and name. Ash's main team has been decided. It consists of canon Pokemon but not canon Kalos Pokemon. Thus, you will probably not see Hawlucha or Talonflame in Ash's team. You can still give suggestions for the Pokemon you want to see in Ash's team. Remember to favourite and follow the story.
