Hi! Since we're all quarantined I decided I was going to start writing here again! Anyway, please enjoy and give your opinions!
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
Bernard M. Baruch
It had happened because of Thalia. Granted, most horrible things always did happen because of Thalia.
Annabeth Chase and Thalia Grace were a pair that could never be separated. Ever since birth, they were together, and they would never let each other go. Which, of course, included high-school classes.
Sadly, in Junior year, Annabeth and Thalia had two classes together, which Annabeth thought was a terrible tragedy. Luckily, one was English, and the teacher, Mr. Blofis, never really gave a sitting chart. So, of course, they had to sit together. It was always the highlight of Annabeth's day. Thalia always made her laugh; while Annabeth always made sure that Thalia was actually passing. The other was Study Hall, which wasn't really a class anyway.
It was a normal day. English took place after lunch, which meant that most students arrived late. Annabeth arrived just as the bell rang, while Thalia remained in the bathroom to take a smoke.
Just as Annabeth sat down another person came in. She couldn't help but roll her eyes. Percy Jackson, she thought with a sigh. Star athlete, pretty boy. Personally, Annabeth didn't hold anything against the boy, except maybe a mild annoyance.
She took her notebook out and looked ahead. Just ahead of her, Percy looked back. They accidentally made eye contact, which Annabeth immediately broke, nervously, looking away. When would Thalia get here?
Class started and Thalia still hadn't arrived. Annabeth started taking notes and from the corner of her eyes saw piercing green eyes looking at her. She looked up; Percy Jackson smiled.
Annabeth flushed and began concentrating again on her notes. When would Thalia get here?
Fifteen minutes late, Thalia came in. Thalia was an unusual sort of beauty, with dark black hair in a pixie cut and electric blue eyes. She was intimidating; her presence always made everyone uneasy. Annabeth always found her to be comforting, but only because they had known each other for so long.
Thalia took a seat beside her and loudly said, "Hey bitch. Give me your notes, I don't have anything written down."
Annabeth rolled her eyes and looked nervously at Mr. Blofis. He looked a little angry, what with Thalia arriving late and making a racket. Quietly, Annabeth murmured, "Shhhh. He's mad today. I'll give them to you later."
Thalia just rolled her eyes and started chewing on some gum she had taken out of her backpack. She grinned as she said, "Okay hoe, whatever you want."
Sadly, Thalia had made no effort to be quiet and again caught the attention of Mr. Blofis. With this, he stopped the lesson and sternly asked, "Is there anything you wanted to tell us, Ms. Grace?"
Annabeth heard some giggles across the room. She stifled her own smile. But Thalia just continued chewing her gum as she said, "No, not really."
More people laughed. Even though she was looking at Thalia, out of the corner of her eyes Annabeth could see Percy Jackson laughing. She smiled and then told herself off silently for smiling.
Stop, she told herself, What is wrong with you today?
Mr. Blofis looked unsurprised at her answer and drily replied, "That's what I thought. Okay, Ms. Grace, perfect." Mr. Blofis turned his eyes to the rest of the class before stating, "Class, we're changing seats today."
Groans filled the room as Thalia whispered to Annabeth, "Is he serious? No! Annabeth, I need you. I NEED you. Please don't go."
Annabeth laughed as Thalia grabbed her arm and began shaking it. "It's your fault," she said, laughing, "deal with the consequences."
Although Annabeth felt slightly disappointed, she couldn't help but laugh as Thalia began fake crying. It'd be sad to live the rest of the semester with no Thalia to entertain her, but she'd survive.
But, of course, Annabeth had yet to realize the terribleness of the seat change.
The class began moving around to their new seats. Annabeth stayed in the same seat, while Thalia was moved to the front of the room. Annabeth smiled as she saw Thalia pouting at her from a distance.
But then she looked sideways and saw the boy sitting next to her. The boy with piercing sea-green eyes. And he was looking at her.
Oh no. What had Thalia done?
"Hey Annie," Percy said, with a small grin.
Immediately, Annabeth, annoyed, responded, "It's not Annie. It's Annabeth."
Percy just smiled and answered, "Yeah, whatever."
Previously, Annabeth may have said that the only thing she felt towards the boy sitting next to her was a mild annoyance. But just with a single interaction, she knew she didn't like him. It didn't help that half the girls in their class were staring at him, which unnerved her.
They didn't talk for the rest of the class. Annabeth was too busy trying to take notes, while Percy was too busy, well, being Percy.
Here's the thing about Percy Jackson. He was the star of the swimming team, but more than that, he was one of the most popular boys in Goode High. Although he was never mean, nor a player, he was a distracting presence. Annabeth had half her classes with this boy, and she saw him get detention in nearly every single one.
His presence was distracting, even when he wasn't doing anything. Girls were murmuring and looking back at them. One particular girl, Drew Tanaka, was glaring at her. What had Annabeth done besides being unlucky enough to have to sit beside him?
Soon, the bell rang. Immediately, Annabeth stood up and strode over to Thalia, who was sleeping by her desk. Annoyed, Annabeth shook her away and said, "Wake up. Oh my God, wake up!"
Eventually, Thalia woke up. Groaning, she asked, "What the Hell are you doing?"
Exasperated, Annabeth answered, "What the Hell are you doing? Wake up. Did you even sleep last night?"
Thalia grinned sleepily. "Nope. Didn't have any time."
Annabeth decided against asking what Thalia was doing that didn't give her time to sleep. She had asked before, and the answer was almost always unpleasant. Instead, she headed out, with Thalia trailing behind her.
"Wait up!" Thalia shouted, which only made Annabeth laugh and quicken her step.
"We're already late for Study Hall, just walk faster."
"I'm lazy okay?" Thalia said as she reached Annabeth and held on to her as if for dear life. "Oh my God, I can't move anymore. That was so tiring. It's like I just ran a marathon! Please don't ever do that again."
Annabeth shook her off and replied, "Hey, maybe you should just shut the fuck up?"
Laughing, Thalia hit her arm, and together they headed towards their last class of the day.
For a second, Annabeth thought about Percy but then dismissed him. All she knew was that he annoyed her, and he probably didn't even care about her. So it didn't even matter.
Thanks for reading! Review if you enjoyed and even if you didn't :) Stay safe!
