Darkness is the first thing surrounding that she was aware of.
That and the sound of her heart beating loudly in her ear or was it all around her? She couldn't tell.
Flashed of her memory of screams and the loud sounds after that, was her only reminders that she still existed.
She was in and out of consciousness, the feeling like she was floating was constantly.
Her arms every so often jerk about, trying to feel her way around in this void before coming back to herself. Occasional her legs would kick out too.
Muffles sound around her gave her distractions in the blankness. Sometimes it was high pitch and other time it was quite lower sounds. She liked the lower better. It sounded right.
Time was meaningless. How had she been trapped in this abyss of water?
She was beginning to feel water all-round her, it passed through her lungs and back out like air would.
Was she a fish? No. She had four limbs. She could wiggle her fingers and toes now.
In the darkness a booming sound echoed, her feet kicked out instantly in surprise. The sound of a woman's voice reached her ears. Muffed but none of it made any sense. It was a jumble of sounds.
It took a lot of effort to open her eyes, but she was greeted yet again by darkness.
In the bliss of the void, she would get brief tastes of some something. Sometimes it was sweet and others it was salty.
The space around her had slowly been getting smaller and smaller, it was getting harder to move. She could feel a strange tingly sensation in her stomach, it extended to her fingers and toes.
Every once in a while she would give a harsh kick when she felt something pressing on her space.
A simple fuck you and leave me alone!
Is what she wanted to say but she had no voice.
She did her best to think back. She would recite old songs or old moves and tv shows in her head, the memories brought a smile to her face. At least she could feel her cheeks and lips move.
Her fingers brushed against her lips, reflectively she began to suck on it. It helped reassure that she was real and alive...more or less.
The loud thumping beat above her sounded calm but sometimes it would increase, including the sound around her.
Breathing in and out to the rhythm, she could feel her arms and legs compacted together, she had no space to move freely. Well not freely but at least when she was annoyed, she could kick out or wave her arms about but now it as difficult to do that.
She wasn't claustrophobic but it was getting ridiculous now that the soft walls around her was all around her skin.
At least she could still sleep and dream.
But her dreams often tormented by sharp colours and shapes that she has been deprived of in this abyssal void.
"RUBY!" A man's voice screams out from the darkness.
A flash of car lights and crippling pain all over. Except for her legs. She couldn't feel her legs.
John. Yes, that was Johns voice. Her boyfriend. No. Not boyfriend. Fiancée.
He had proposed that night. They went out for dinner and drinks. She had called up her parents from the bar when he had gone to order dessert. Naturally they had been thrilled.
After that things got a little jumbled. She wasn't drunk. Tipsy perhaps but she was fully aware.
They walked home... A flash of car lights. Was it a drunk driver? She couldn't remember though. But she could remember the pain. A warm hand in her cold one. Johns voice echoing in her ears before everything slipped away and she was here.
Wherever here was.
She jolted as the walls around her began to constrict around her, the fluid from around her began to drain away.
She could feel adrenalin coursing through her body. Her heart hammering as she felt herself getting pushed. Pushed down a very tight tunnel.
Noises of screaming and shouting was present as time began to blur.
Bright lights, then she felt cold.
Cold.
Cold...air was the first thing she felt when the feeling of being compressed had passed. Her eyes clamped shut as the lights was blinding.
Liquid gurgled from her throat as she fought to breathe. She could feel gravity as a strong grip holding her face down onto something soft, a large thing was pushed down her throat, clearing her airways. Invasive much.
Something hit her back, making her whimper and wiggle but her head was too heavy to move.
She was once again picked up by large hands, she cracked her eyes open to try to take in the environment. It was hard to make out anything. It was all blurry. She could tell they were giants.
Her breathing was fast as she was placed onto something soft and warm.
Her eyes bleary looked up, the blob above her had black hair. She could tell that much.
Slowly she could feel a strong heartbeat under her. As it slowly began to dawn on what had happened. Dread crept up her stomach it clicked.
She had just been born. Or well reborn would be the more appropriate word to use.
Well...shit...

"Mother?"
Toph head goes toward the door as it slid open, Lins head popped through.
"Hey." She said tiredly, in her arms in a bundle of blankets was the newest addition to the Beifong family.
Pre-teen Lin hurried forward, eager to see the baby. Peering the blankets, she could see a tuft of brown hair and striking grey eyes staring up at her. Eyes that held more than it should.
"What is it?" She asked, her hand going into the blankets and a small chubby one grasps her finger.
"It's a girl." Toph said pulling Lin next to her. Doing her best not to move too much.
"Hey sis." Lin cooed at the new-born whose face just screwed up at her.
"Have you got a name for her yet? Mom?" Lin looked up to see her mother had already drifted off to sleep. She slid carefully off the bed before reaching over to pick up the baby cautiously from Toph's arms.
Her mother's arms tense slightly around the babe but then loosened. The baby gurgles up at her, grey eyes closing up to sleep as she paces her new sister into the crib next to them. She has had enough practice when Su was born.
Su was still with Uncle Sokka and Kya a few rooms away. With a smile she hurries off, eager to share the news.
X
Toph bolted up at the light footsteps near the crib, pain radiated from her abdomen, but she didn't care.
"What are you doing here twinkle toes?" she snapped, but her baby gurgles in delight up at Aang. She scowls as his weight shifted as he picked up the child.
"I came to see my daughter." He said softly, making Toph bristle.
"She's not an air bender." She growled, sliding out her bed to him. It was painful but it didn't matter.
"I know. I can sense she going to be a powerful Earth Bender. Kya said she has a very strong aura when she weighed her earlier."
Toph smirked, of course her daughter was going to be an earth bender. Both Lin and Su was a testimony to that.
"Katara is still mad with me... And... I just wanted to see her. I know you don't want it getting out that I'm her father. Me, Katara and Sokka are the only ones who know."
Toph nodded at the very small list of people. That was plenty.
When Katara found out that Aang had slept with her, she was livid. Pots and pans were thrown. Water and Ice spikes too when she ran out of metal and heavy items.
Aang let Katara vent her rage but had argued that he couldn't remember a thing before waking up in her bed. He was grateful that Tenzin was off mediating in the gazebo at the other end of the island. It would have brought up some odd questions.
The same went for Toph. She was at the station on her way home and then the next thing was waking up naked next to an equally naked Avatar. With the confusion, both agreed to keep it quiet but Aang conscience couldn't keep it from his wife.
It was a month later when she felt the fluttering of a heartbeat within her to realises that she was yet again pregnant. She lied to him when she announced that she was expecting again to team avatar and her friends. But deep down he knew. And she knew that too.
Her hand reached out to the babe, a small hand with little nails claps her fingers, making her melt inside.
"Katara clicked she was mine because she has my eyes and my hair colour." Aangs said stiffly, brushing the infant's cheek with his pinkie.
Toph raised her eyebrow at him. Both of those things she couldn't tell with her baby... Well, with any of her children really. Colours had no meaning for her. It was just words.
"Oh. Doses she... Does she hate me for lying?" Her breath hitched, she couldn't lose Katara to a mistake, years they've had together.
"No. She's just angry. She'll calm down soon, I hope. You did worry her for a bit. And the baby. She told me that she barely made a cry. And has she been quite after that."
"Yeah..."
X
"Congratulations. It's a girl!"
"She's not crying. Why isn't she crying?" Toph screamed out, panic in her blank eyes. Listening desperately for a sign of life. After a long painful second there was a small wail and whimpers from the new-born. Both Lin and Su had been very vocal when they were born.
"It's ok. Toph. Her airway was a little blocked but she alright." Karata said soothingly before she felt the weight of a small squishy body begin placed on her chest.
She relaxed as she felt the pounding heartbeat of the baby. Her arms automatically cuddle the child.
X
"She defiantly doesn't get that from me?" She grumbles.
Aang snorts in amusement. The baby began to wiggle in his grasp.
"I think she hungry. I'll leave you two alone." Aang carefully manoeuvres the bundle into her arms before departing the hospital room. Mumbling about having to sleep on the sofa for the foreseeable future.
Toph sighed, her face looking down at the child. She had no idea what to call her daughter, she had a few but perhaps Lin could help decide on what would match.
Feeling the new-born was getting restless she began to unbutton her shirt.
XxxxX
It had taken a few months for her to realise on where she had been reincarnation into. A very very long few months.
For starters, her new mother did not speak a word of English. And neither did her siblings. She had spent a lot of time trying to understand what they were talking about. But she eventually recognized a word constantly repeat to her and that was Khan.
Khan sounded alright for her name. It was the only conclusion she could come up with.
What came with the language barrier also came with no bladder or bowel control. It was humiliating having her ass wiped and her butt exposed to the world. But the worst was food.
She wasn't going into details with that. In fact, she had pushed away all her memories of the times was getting breast fed. It's not like she had and alternative food source available.
Khan would catch flashes of the technologies around her and was horrified to see it was all old fashioned. Not even a handheld phone.
The only positive thing that came out of being a baby was that her mind was like a sponge. Sound eventual strung together to form words that made sense to her brain.
It was when Khan was laying on a soft thick layered blankets on the living room floor, toys strewn about and Su was hovering a toy too close her face,
Khan squirmed, her face screwing up and arms flexing in annoyance.
"Su, leave her alone." Lin said, looking up from her book.
"She's so boring. All she does it sleep, poo and whine."
Be grateful it's just that... Khan thought bitterly. On many nights she had contemplated on fussing for attention whenever she couldn't sleep, but it seemed her mother was already up to her head with things to do she thought better than that.
On the bright side her vision had slowly cleared up. And she could see more.
Twisting her head at her older sister who seemed to be engrossed with her book, Khan couldn't help but finally noticing some odd similarities between her and an older version in her head from avatar legend of Korra tv series.
...Wait...
...What...
Khan curses to herself as her baby emotions began to surface. She could feel herself beginning to have a tantrum or crying session.
"I didn't do anything." Su cried, backing away from the whining new-born.
Su as in Suyin Beifong.
Holy fuck... That Arrow guy must have been Aang. Feeling angry with herself for not recognising it all sooner, her lip quivered, the urge to cry was building up.
Lin face loomed above her, Khan felt herself get picked up as Lin gently rocket her backwards and forwards until she was drifted off to sleep. Whispering nonsense in her ear.
She was in the avatar world and reborn as Toph's youngest child.
