Author's Note: Hey guys, this is a story idea that I had for a bit and kinda spiraled into something more. As of right now I have a lot of ambition for this story and want to keep it going as long as I can. I've been obsessed with MHA for the longest time despite not being up to date with either the manga or the anime (if that's not a sign this story will be AU I don't know what is.) I've got a rough plan for Izuku's powers in this and some ideas for pairings but that's gonna be down the line so not gonna worry about all that right now. As always I appreciate constructive criticism and feedback, that's really what motivates me. Right now I'm just hoping to make this story one if a kind and avoid some overused tropes but we'll see.
Chapter One: Broken Dreams and Bloody Fists
If anyone ever asked Izuku Midoriya who he loved most he would say his mother. This would not be a lie, but it wouldn't be quite the truth either. He loved his mother very dearly but there is something to be said about the bond between twins that was stronger than anything. Of course, he would never reveal such a thing, even under threat of death but his twin sister Izuka was just that bit more dear to his heart. Of course he had his differences with his twin- she was never afraid, impulsive, and very much an extrovert. Whereas Izuku had a tendency to jump at shadows when no one was looking, think a bit too much about his every decision and would most likely be an introvert until the day he died.
Inko Midoriya was a very happy and surprised mother the day she gave birth to the twins. She had always hoped for more than one child but the absence of her lover made her resolve to take care of the one child as best as she could. So when not one but two children arrived on July 15 she was ecstatic. Even the fact that she wasn't prepared for two newborns couldn't damper her mood. She loved her twins like life itself. Their mother never told them which of them was the older twin by however many seconds so it was always was a bit of a running joke between them. Of course, by nature of their personalities Izuka was the one who dragged Izuku everywhere and always seemed like the older sibling to anyone else around. So when a 10 year old Izuka woke her brother up by jumping on him and told him they were going to the park today. They were going to the park today.
"Izu-nii! Get up, get up! We're going to the park today!" Izuku wheezed as he tried to catch his breath while his twin's feet were embedded in his gut. "Geroff me…"
Izuka tilted her head at him as if confused. "What?" Izuku's patience worn thin by his rude awakening and it being a morning on his favorite day to sleep in, Saturday, burned to a crisp.
"Get. Off!" Izuku shoved his sister off him sending her tumbling to the floor while he regained his breath. Izuka let off a muffled "Ooomph." She rolled and popped to her feet. "C'mon, c'mon we get to spend a whole day at the park!"
Izuku grit his teeth. "Fine. Give me five minutes." Izuka beamed at him, acting as if she were oblivious to his anger. "Yes! Make sure to hurry up!" She exclaimed and practically pranced out of the room.
Izuku sighed and pushed the bedsheets to the side. It was ironic that his sister was the only one who could anger him so but also be the person to not encounter the side of him that was a nervous wreck while in public. Izuku dragged himself to the bathroom and began to sluggishly brush his teeth. He truly loved his sister dearly but there was only so much he could handle when she literally walked all over him. Izuku spat and rinsed his mouth eventually looking at his clearly gloomy disposition in the mirror.
There stood a short ten year old boy with unruly dark green hair and a pale face with freckles along with wide green eyes. His sister as his twin looked much like him of course, same eyes, freckles and other features but where his hair would never bow down to a comb or brush, hers was able to be styled however she liked. He didn't so much mind the hair honestly. It gave him less to do when he woke up but his mother would always grumble about it incessantly whenever it came time for them to attend anything formal.
Izuku trudged from his shared bathroom with Izuka back into their room to his side of the room. There was almost a tangible line between the halves of the room. Izuku's side was clean, neat and almost spartan compared to the veritable hellstorm that Izuka's side was. There were clothes strewn about and toys buried and hanging haphazardly from displays and a dresser. There was even a pair of shoes hanging in between a pair of ceiling tiles. Izuku, growing up with this mess had since learned to just blatantly ignore that side of the room. It was kind of an unspoken rule that Izuka would contain her mess to that side of the room or she would suffer the impotent wrath of the clean freak that was Izuku Midoriya.
Izuku pulled on a dark maroon shirt with a pair of gray cargo shorts and left the room heading downstairs to the kitchen. He walked through the doorway and was hit with the sweet scent of syrup and waffles. A smile came to his face unbidden as he took in the sight of his mother at the stove. He hugged her from behind burying his face in her back.
"Good morning 'Zuku, did you sleep well?" Inko turned to briefly embrace him before returning to the bacon frying on the pan.
"Yeah, until Izuka tried to kill me." Inko giggled at her daughter's antics. "Izuku, you know how she gets ahead of herself like that."
"I guess." Izuku childishly grumbled.
"Izu-nii!" His twin practically roared. "I grabbed you one of your coffees!" Izuku turned towards his twin with stars in his eyes. "Gimmie."
"Izu-nii you're scaring me." Izuku snatched the bottle of iced coffee from Izuka and drained half of It down his throat. The morning menace Izuku now satisfied with his morning coffee turned to Izuka and gave her the first genuine smile of the day. "Good morning, Izuka! Thanks for the coffee."
Izuka stared at him her eye twitching. "You scare me sometimes."
Izuku tilted his head copying her mannerism from earlier. "What do you mean?"
After an amazing breakfast Izuku and Izuka went outside with their mom to walk to the park. "Oi, Inko!"
One Mitsuki Bakugo hailed from the nearby sidewalk. "You dragging your brats to the park too?"
Inko beamed at her best friend. "Yeah, little Izuka has been waiting all week and I promised her we would go today."
"That sounds like your 'Zuka alright. What about you Izuku, are you excited for the park?" Mitsuki grinned at Izuku.
Izuku immediately went red at being singled out. "I-I guess. The playground can be… fun?" Some would be confused at this almost separate personality that Izuku displayed in public. Inko and Izuka both knew that he normally only let himself be comfortable with them. It also gave them no small amount of mirth to see him struggle socially.
Izuka hung an arm over Izuku's shoulders. "We're gonna have lots of fun!" As if sensing the light nature of the conversation a series of small explosions heralded the arrival of one Katsuki Bakugo, asshole extraordinaire.
"WASSUP BITCHES?!" Izuku grabbed his mother's hand, Izuka scowled at the belligerent brat, Inko frowned and pulled her children closer, and Mitsuki Bakugo gave her rude son an impromptu ass beating.
"THAT'S! NOT! HOW! WE! SAY! GOOD! MORNING!"
Katsuki's only response was a shrill whimper like that of a small dog after being scolded. "Now say it right this time!" Bakugo sent a look of irritation at his mother along with opening his mouth as if to spout a scathing comeback.
Mitsuki's eyes full of hellfire and damnation pinned him in place.
Katsuki turned to the Midoriya's slowly and despite his eyes promising bloody murder said in an almost polite tone, "Good morning."
"And?"
Katuski's eye twitched and tried to smile. There was a sound like rocks crushing against each other that left the others wondering if that was his teeth grinding against each other or his smile muscles being used for the first time in a very long time.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
Inko's eyes widened and she hurriedly interrupted to patch things up. "No, no Mitsuki that's enough. I'm sure we'd all just rather put that behind us and go to the park."
Katsuki sagged in relief. For a moment there it looked like he might have been working up to an aneurism.
Mitsuki just sighed keeping an eye on her boy. "Fine. Just try to be polite Katsuki."
Katsuki rolled his eyes. "Yes, Ha-Ooof! Mom." Mitsuki glared at her obstinate son. "Now, we might as well start walking."
The walk to the park was relatively peaceful at least compared to what had happened earlier. Izuka was skipping ahead and humming to herself, Inko was walking at a sedate pace smiling at her and making polite conversation with Mitsuki and Bakugo was in the back equipped with his new All-Might themed baseball bat he got for his birthday last week. Izuku was unfortunately, stuck beside Katsuki trying with all his might (Haha pun…) to not look at the bat.
If I don't make eye contact or look at the bat he might not decide to "break it in" like the last one.
Katsuki's last bat was a thick plastic toy bat that he seldom used for actual baseball. Izuku really hoped that had changed.
A sparkling glitter caught his attention from the corner of his eye and he looked, instinctively curious.
"Don't you like my new bat Deku?" Katsuki grinned at him. Izuku forced a smile on his face as he looked at it.
The sparkle he had seen earlier was in fact the teeth of a grinning All Might. The metal where the teeth were was painted in an almost silvery glitter color. "Y-Yeah Kacchan, it looks really cool."
Katsuki chuckled under his breath as he ran a hand across it. "I know, it looks totally badass."
Izuku flinched as Katsuki looked directly at him.
Katsuki grinned, a malicious glint in his eyes. "Maybe I'll let you have a closer later."
Izuku's grin slipped as he looked at him in hopeless despair. Oh no. This is bad. This is really really bad.
Thankfully Izuku's torment was interrupted for now as Izuka squealed upon seeing the park and ran back to her brother snatching his hand.
Izuku panted part in relief and part in exertion as she dragged him to the playground.
Izuka shoved her brother making him climb up the wooden castle. "C'mon Izu-nii, I wanna ride on the slide!" Izuku watched as she dove headfirst into the opening of the slide that lead down to the 'dungeon'. He sighed and followed after her. He gave a grunt of surprise as his feet met Izuka's own pushing them down the tunnel a bit. "Izuka, why'd you-"
His sister wasn't smiling anymore as she looked at him.
"Izuku…" Her face was unreadable. "Why do you let Kacchan bully you all the time?"
Izuku gulped. "W-Well, you see I-"
"Izuku." She looked at him hard before sighing.
She grabbed one of his hands and settled it into her lap making him scoot forward. "Izuku, I'm your twin. It doesn't matter who's older or younger. You can always rely on me and trust me with anything."
Izuku frowned a bit before pulling her into a hug. She breathed deeply as she tried her hardest not to cry. "I love you nii-chan. More than anything. I don't like to see you come home hurt or crying when I'm not there. Is it…" She bit her lip. "Is it because of his quirk?"
Izuku suddenly felt very empty.
"N-Not exactly… But that is part of it. When we were younger we used to be friends almost as close as you and I were but ever since he got his quirk he started to look down on everyone. I mean, before he was always confident and excited about everything, k-kinda like you. But now, he's decided he didn't need me around to 'weaken him'. At first I thought it was because I didn't have a quirk. But, y-you have such a strong quirk and he's not nice to you! Maybe it's the way I am or the way I act around him but he just always does his best to make me disappear."
Izuka pulled him in again for another hug. "Izuku, I'll never let you disappear."
"I'm not afraid of that." Izuka looked at him confused and Izuku's grasp on her hand tightened like steel. Simultaneously, his eyes darkened under her gaze. "I'm afraid of wanting to make him disappear."
Izuku sweated nervously as he stood in a line with the other kids. After a couple of hours of playing on the playground and participating in separate sports, all the neighborhood kids had gathered together to play a game of capture the flag. As usual, whenever the neighborhood at large played together they selected Bakugo and Izuka as captains. And in a similar fashion, Izuka always picked Izuku first. Izuku didn't want to let Izuka down, but he wanted to stay as far away from Kacchan as possible.
Izuka huddled everyone together on one end of the wooden castle where they couldn't be seen by the other team. "Alright Izuku, what's the plan?"
Izuku felt a slight urge to acquiesce the task to someone else but he already knew that he would be the only one to be able to come up with a plan that had a half-chance of working. Katsuki picked all the kids with the strongest quirks and Izuka always seemed to pick the ones with the weakest. Or the 'nice kids' as she had put it.
Izuku sighed. "Alright um, Izuka you'll need to stay here and be main defense. Kacchan is sure to just rush the flag with the strongest of his team." Izuka pouted. "Why? You know I can't hold him for that long. Or multiple people either."
"You don't have to hold them. Just push them back. Besides, you'll have help from Moguru."
"Me?" The slightly shy kid with a mole-like mutant quirk pointed at himself with a set of shiny claws. Izuku nodded at him. "Yes, you. When Izuka pushes them back you need to pop up underneath them and tag them."
"O-Okay."
"Tenchi, you'll be on guard duty at our jail until we have prisoners, your job is to back up Izuka and Moguru." Tenchi, a skinny kid with a backwards hat, nodded as he wrapped the rope-like arms of his mutation quirk around his waist.
"What about me?" Izuku looked at a short girl in confusion. "Who are you?" Tenchi asked in confusion. The girl puffed up her cheeks. "You guys are so mean. I'm here every time we play and you still don't know who I am?"
They all looked at her blankly. She huffed. "My name is Kira."
Izuku sucked in a breath as his mind reeled. This was perfect.
Izuku smiled like a maniac before grabbing Kira by the shoulders ignoring her blushing face at being grabbed like that. "Kira, I promise I'll never forget you again if you follow my lead."
Capture the flag at the park was a pretty simple game. Much like the original game there were two teams that would compete, each trying to take the other team's flag from the opposing team's side of the field. Once someone passed through the halfway mark of the field they would be in enemy territory and could be tagged and put in jail. Of course, just because you're put in jail doesn't mean the game ends for you. A member of your team can free you from the jail if they make it to the opposing team's jail where you are held. In addition to the regular rules, quirk use was allowed the only restriction being direct contact was required to tag someone.
Quirk use in public was illegal but there had always been a bit of a gray area where children were concerned. Of course, the police couldn't go arresting every kid who used their quirk outside so there was always leeway on where it was accepted that kids could use their quirks and not get into trouble. The park was one of these places.
The area that they considered as in-bounds was the entire park but the games they usually played were kept in the same central area that consisted of the two wooden castles facing each other. The flags would be placed behind each castle and guarded by at least one member of that side's team.
The match started off with a literal blast as Kacchan yelled his battle cry from the other wooden castle. Kacchan charged with three other members of his team towards the opposing castle. Izuka hopped into the slide at the top of castle where she had been waiting for the game to start. She rolled out from the slide and ran to their flag, Tenchi's hat. She took up her guard spot in front of the flag with her arms crossed. Kacchan, I hope you're ready for some hurt.
"C'MON BITCH! GET READY TO LOSE!" Kacchan roared as he jumped up to the top of the castle.
Izuka smiled darkly at Katsuki. "Are you sure that you wanna use that language with me? I might tell your moooom." Her plastic smile aimed like a weapon at Katsuki. I just need him to get closer.
Katsuki hopped down from the castle forgoing the slide Izuka used and the ladder. "You wouldn't."
Izuka tossed her hair to the side. "I won't on one condition. You don't tell on me when you go home crying like a baby after losing." Izuka's eyes darted to where Moguru was in the ground. To her horror, Katsuki followed her gaze to the same spot.
Moguru made his move bursting from the ground and reaching for Katsuki. Except Katsuki wasn't there anymore.
Just the small act of looking somewhere else had given him more information than she wanted. Dang it! How did he catch that?
"You really thought that half-assed plan would work?!" Katsuki roared as he ran towards her, his explosions crying out to be let free from his hands.
"Kinda?" She slammed on the ground with her hands. Tactile Telekinesis was her own mutated version of her mother's Minor Telekinesis it allowed her to extend a telekinetic field from her body through anything she touched. In this case, she extended the field through the ground around her and used her telekinesis to condense and shove a pillar of dirt at Katsuki.
He was caught off guard as the ground in front of him came together and launched itself at him. Katsuki let out a grunt as he was bashed backwards and was sent rolling along the ground.
Izuka let out quick breaths as the three other members of Katsuki's team came around the corner of the castle looking somewhat bewildered at Katsuki's panting and dirt covered form on the ground.
"Who's next?! Anybody else wanna take a dirt nap?!" One of the guys on the other side smiled.Uh oh.
"C'mon guys let's just rush her! She can't take three of us at the same time!" The others seemed to agree and moved forward as one at a slow jog. This unintentionally made it impossible for her to perform the same dirt pillar trick she had used. They were just moving to slow to get caught by a pillar.
Moguru made his second move then, emerging from under the ground to grab the ankle of one of the kids. "Gottem!" Moguru cried.
The other two froze as their teammate was tagged. One of the two raised his arm and pointed at Moguru. "Ha!" A short bright burst of light shot from his hand and hit Moguru square in the face. Moguru cried out in momentary pain before shooting back underground.
Izuka glared at the boy. "What did you do to Moguru?" He grinned at her. "My quirk Flash lets me shoot a bright light from different parts of my body. I've played this game with Moguru before, it always works."
Well Moguru evened the odds more for me but there's still two- Katsuki grunted as he got to his feet glaring at her. Three left now. Izuku better hurry back. I'm not sure how long I can keep them from getting the flag.
"Alright Kira, let's go." Izuku tugged on her hand and urged her to move as the last of Katsuki's attack team ran past them, seemingly oblivious to both of them. They moved fast across the field between both wooden castles but kept their eyes open for the last member of Katsuki's team.
Izuku grinned at Kira for once without exhibiting the regular bashfulness he possessed with everyone else. "Kira, your quirk is so amazing! I've never even heard of anything like it."
Kira giggled and tightened her hand around his. "I'm not sure you would."
Kira's quirk was called Notice Me Not. Essentially the quirk erased her presence. Until she spoke to someone with the intention to be heard she was erased from their physical senses completely as if she wasn't there. The most notable or un-notable part of her quirk in this case would be its affect to erase any memory of her. You would only remember her when she spoke her name or touched you. She described it as a constant release emitter type quirk.
Of course, the fact that the quirk was always activated seemed to have some immediate downsides that Izuku could think of. He had asked her how her parents took care of her if they always forgot about her but she said that thankfully as a side affect of growing up with them, they seemed to be immune to the influence of Notice Me Not.
"Look, there's the last guy on Kacchan's team."
The opposing team's flag was Katsuki's new bat funnily enough. "Izuku." He looked down at Kira. "What is it?"
"That's my big brother. He'll notice if we grab the flag. The memory affect and the invisibility don't automatically extend over everything I come into contact. It's honestly already hard to extend the invisibility to you. And besides that, because he's my brother he'll be immune to the affects of my quirk."
Izuku nodded mumbling to himself. "Yeah that makes sense, I imagine trying to extend the field over anything not in close contact with your body would be hard…"
Kira looked at him with wide eyes as he seemed to go into his own world. She pinched him. He flinched and looked at her. "Wha-?" She giggled at his dumbfounded face. "What was that?"
Izuku ran a hand through his hair. "I uh I tend to do that with quirks that are really interesting."
"Oh." Her face reddened and she looked down. "Sorry if I freaked you out."
She shook her head. "No, it's fine. I'm actually kind of glad. Most people just get weirded out by my quirk. My quirk makes it really hard to make friends. Honestly, if my brother hadn't dragged me here I don't think I would've come again."
Izuku frowned. He knew how hard it was to make friends when you were different. Maybe more than most.
"I think I've gone through a lot of that. I try hard to fit in with everyone else, but I can't forget the fact that I'm actually quirkless." He clenched his free hand. "I've always wanted to help my family and make them proud of me… but more than that I want to be someone like All Might. I want to be able to go anywhere be able to say 'I am here'."
She looked at him in silence and he looked down in shame. "I know. It's something almost impossible for someone like me but-"
"I believe in you." Izuku turned to her looking at her in shock. "What?"
She smiled at him. "I believe in you. I know that you're quirkless. But I think you'll find a way Izuku. I believe one day you'll be able to say those words help so many people. You know why?"
He looked at her.
"Because you've already helped me just by being yourself."
He gave her the brightest and most genuine smile he's ever given anyone outside of his family. "Thank you Kira." She squeezed his hand. "You're welcome." She pointed at her brother. "Now how are we gonna do this?"
"I'll run up and distract him and then you grab it." Kira frowned. "That's a bad idea, if he decides to go after me he'll definitely catch up to me; I'll do it."
Izuku nodded and gulped. "You sure?"
Kira grinned. "Yeah, you can do this Izuku just run as fast as you can." She let go of his hand and darted in towards the flag in her brother's blind spot. She almost got to it before he turned and smiled at her. "Not so fast sis!" He reached for her and she stumbled back before turning and running leaving him to chase her. He took off after her leaving the flag undefended for Izuku to run in and grab the bat.
He took a moment to admire how All Might's face on the bat grinned at him before sprinting off towards his team's side of the field.
"Hey!" Izuku looked over his shoulder to see Kira's brother after him. It looked like he had tagged her sooner rather than later and was now catching up to Izuku at a fast pace. It didn't matter though, Izuku had a good headstart and was closing in on the halfway point between the two wooden castles.
Izuku blocked everything out and focused his hardest on closing those last couple yards. He huffed in exertion before taking a running leap past the halfway marker.
"Woooo!" Izuku yelled in victory. "I got the flag! Guys we won!" Izuku was feeling almost giddy having his plan work and following through on it.
Izuku's teammates came from around the castle in a moment surrounding him and yelling at each other talking about the game. Kira ran from the opposite team's jail and gave him a high-five followed by several of his other teammates.
Izuka threw an arm around his shoulders. "I knew I picked you first for a reason." He laughed as she smiled at him. "Good job, I'm not sure how much longer we would have held out. They kept running back and freeing their teammates while Tenchi was helping me."
Just as Izuku was feeling at his highest surrounded by his friend in their victory, there had to be someone to drag him back to the ground.
"Deku you little shit! Give me back my fucking bat!" Katsuki stomped into their group and snatched the bat from Izuku.
He glared at Izuku his eyes screaming retribution.
Izuku was saved in that moment by a number of the children's parents coming up and telling them it was time to go home.
"Izuku! Izuka! It's time to go home now!" Izuka grabbed Izuku's hand and they walked over to their mother. Izuka beamed at Inko. "Izuku won the game for us Mom! It was awesome!"
Inko smiled at Izuku and pulled him in softly for a hug. "That's awesome Izuku, good job." Izuku reddened a little. "Moooom, you're embarrassing me…" He looked at the other kids in the park and specifically Kira who was giggling as he was smothered.
Mitsuki came up to the trio, Bakugo silently treading behind her. "Well, we might as well get going now."
"Wait, Hag." Katsuki spoke up. "We were playing earlier and I lost my ball in the woods I'm gonna go look for it." Despite the fact that Katsuki didn't even bring a ball, Mitsuki rolled her eyes and said. "Fine, but be quick about it Brat." Katsuki turned to Izuku and scowled at him. "Deku, you're coming with me, it's your fault I lost it anyways."
Izuku gulped. Katsuki wasn't serious was he? Their parents were right there! If Katsuki did anything to him there was no way he would get out of it without punishment.
He looked at his sister who was staring at him with worry. No, he needed to stop this. He couldn't keep letting Katsuki bully him. He wasn't sure what he would do but this needed to end.
"O-Okay, I'll help you." Katsuki grinned in an instant and grabbed Izuku's wrist crushing it in a vice grip. A moment later they were running towards the woods beside the park. It was fairly thin near the edge of the park but not long after entering the woods it became choked with trees and bushes. Finally when they were out of sight of the park, Katsuki pulled and swung his arm sending Izuku tumbling back into a tree.
Katsuki looked at him with barely restrained rage, much more than he had ever seen before. "Deku, you're dead."
Izuku steeled himself and looked Katsuki in the eye. "You need to stop Kacchan, I won't be bullied anymore."
Katsuki flinched and growled at him metal bat in one hand and explosions popping in the other. "Who said you had a fucking choice you quirkless Deku! You're fucking DEAD!" He swung the bat at him and Izuku ducked under it hearing the bat hit the tree and feeling smashed bark fall across his face. He took one more look at Katsuki's poisonous crimson eyes and took off running even faster than he was earlier during the game.
He wildly sprinted through the forest branches scratching his face and stumbling over rocks. Was the park this way? It had to be this way.
"DEKU!" Then again it didn't really matter where his feet took him. As long as it was away from Katsuki.
Izuku quickly retracted that statement as the forest in front of him gave way to an embankment several feet over a respectably large river.
This was worse than just getting lost, he had literally trapped himself. "There you are you little bitch! Where do you get off running from me you bastard!" Katsuki grabbed the front of his shirt and looked him in the eyes. Furious blood red eyes met frightened but determined green ones. He viciously snarled at him in a half whisper. "I'm going to enjoy this."
Katsuki threw him to the ground with an explosion that scorched through his shirt and burned his gut. He then cocked the bat back and Izuku threw his arms up in a wordless cry. All Might's grinning face seemed to mock him as it descended and brought pain.
Katsuki was merciless, bringing the bat down on him in multiple places with all his fury. Izuku cried out with pain hoping that someone somewhere would save him.
No one came.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity Katsuki planted the bat into the ground putting his whole weight onto it has he panted. Izuku's body was screaming out in pain like he'd never known. His side stabbed into him with every breath and his face was drenched in sweat, blood and tears.
Izuku shuddered and turned over facing Katsuki on the ground. His blurry gaze rested on the now blood-stained bat. His breath caught as his gaze froze on the filthy smile of All Might.
Something broke in him. Izuku felt his pain and something came over him that he had never felt before.
Hate.
I HATE HIM! I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO HIM WHY DOES HE ALWAYS TRY TO HURT ME?!
Rage seeped in through his wounds and clouded his mind mingling with the pain.
I HATE YOU KATSUKI!
What did he ever do to deserve this!? What gave him the right!? He had tried for so fucking long to be this shitstain's friend. To just ignore him and move on! He tried to get him to stop!
I WISH YOU WOULD JUST DISSAPPEAR!
Izuku knew somehow deep down that he never would. No matter how many punishments he would be given, Katsuki would always come back to hurt him.
But not if he didn't let him.
Izuku's eyes snapped open a surprisingly amount of clarity coming to him despite the blood leaking into them. He screamed in pain and burgeoning anger as he snapped a leg out and kicked the bat out from under Katsuki.
Katsuki unprepared for any kind of retaliation promptly fell to the ground. Izuku gnashed his teeth considering Katsuki's downed form before turning and lunging onto the bat gripping it with both bruised hands by the base. Izuku scrabbled to his feet turning to Katsuki rising to his feet.
Katsuki seemed to realize what happened as he looked to from the bat to Izuku. He eyed him dangerously and snarled. "The fuck are you gonna do with that Deku?! I'll fucking kill you bitch!"
The rage in Izuku rose to new heights and he screamed in suffering and hate. Izuku tightened his grip on the bat even more and rushed at Katsuki swinging with all his might. Katsuki's hand swung up, his qurik flaring in response. It was too late.
The metal bat struck Katsuki across his face painting it with Izuku's blood. Katsuki's head swiveled his eyes painfully agape as his neck seemed to crack and he stumbled back in what seemed like slow motion to Izuku.
Right over the edge of the embankment. Izuku had just enough time to see Katsuki's head split open on a sharp rock before his momentum carried him over the edge as well.
Izuku came to, feeling like he went ten rounds with All Might and then was pushed off a building. His breathing was pained as a sharp stitch in his side made deep breaths impossible. Izuku's eyes opened slowly as he tried to recall why he was in hell right now.
The last thing he remembered was going into the woods to find a ball with Katsuki.
Oh. OH!
Izuku heaved himself to his feet his body trying to hyperventilate but slowed down enough by his injuries that he just shook in panic.
He was dripping wet but somehow his hand was still clutching onto the bat like it was a lifeline. He looked across the beach. Dagobah beach. He thought absentmindedly. The junkyard of a beach was quiet and dark. He guessed that more than a couple hours had passed when he was unconscious.
His eyes froze and his breathing hitched as he saw Katsuki lying on the beach. He trudged over feeling his own weight now more than ever.
"Ka-Katsuki?" He kneeled over his unresponsive body and pushed him over face up. Izuku's next action was to throw up over the now very dead corpse of his once-friend and bully.
Katsuki's face was a discolored open wound with tarnished features. His still, empty eyes were open and unseeing. If the bat didn't do him in, the rock he landed on certainly did.
He had killed someone. Not just anyone. But Kacchan, one of his old friends, someone he knew almost more than himself. It didn't matter what Katsuki had done to him, Izuku killed him. The tears came and he retreated into a fetal position rocking himself back and forth.
"I killed him. Oh Christ I killed him. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Oh God Mitsuki, fucking hell, Izuka and Mom. What the fuck do I do? I'm a monster, a v-villain. I'm a murderer!" He sobbed and retched.
His world was ending. What would he do now? He was a villain. He killed someone. He couldn't ever be a hero now, he couldn't be like All Might. He couldn't make his family proud, why would they ever be proud of a murderer? The guilt threatened to overwhelm him but somehow after however much time had passed he was able to calm down a bit.
After letting his emotions out like that he just felt empty. No anger, no sadness, no guilt. He didn't know what he could do with his life now, but he had to find a way to go on. For some reason he couldn't and wouldn't let himself fall into complete despair.
So Izuku got to his feet taking another shaky look at Katsuki. He couldn't just leave him there. If he put him into the water it would only be a matter of time before he washed up again. This time where someone would see him. If he could hide the body, maybe the authorities would just assume they had both died in the river. That was better than hunting him down as a murderer.
Among the junkyard that was Dagobah Beach he spied a large dirty fridge lying on its side. Izuku took a deep breath and grabbed Katsuki's arm dragging the corpse across the wet sand.
Izuku shivered as he walked down a dark dirty alley. It was late at night but even with the darkness Izuku chose to stay off the streets if only so no one would see his wrecked figure of torn wet clothes, bruises and split open skin.
A stray breeze cast over him and he shivered in response. He wasn't entirely sure where he was. To be honest, the only thing he knew for sure was that he didn't know what to do.
He had no plans, no ideas on what he could do to survive. How did villains survive on the street? He knew he should've taken notes on villains as well as heroes but to his defense he didn't know he would be one. Ever.
Izuku's eyes strayed past a dumpster where a homeless person lay against a building draped in a dirty but comfy looking blanket. Izuku looked up and down the alley as if he expected someone else to be there. He knew he should probably keep walking but he was soo cold. Besides that hobo looked like he had warm enough clothing. He probably wouldn't even notice it was missing when he woke up. Izuku stood In front of the sleeping man.
"H-Hello?" No response. Izuku reached down and grabbed the wool blanket. He began to slowly pull it off the man making no noise. He didn't wake and Izuku sighed in relief as he wrapped the blanket around himself as another breeze blew down the alley. He went to turn and continue down the alley when the worst happened.
A rough hand covered by a fingerless glove wrapped itself around his already bruised wrist and he winced. "Whad do ya think you're doin with my blanket girly?!" Izuku cried out as the man stood and pushed him against the building. The man got into his face bloodshot eyes pinning him in place as the homeless man's awful rancid breath washed over his face. "If all ya wanted to do was get warm ya coulda just asked me." He grinned showcasing a set of blackened and missing teeth. "I know just how ta get ya all warmed up."
The man reached down and tore the at his shirt as Izuku started to shake. He was so afraid. What was he gonna do? The rage that filled him earlier was noticeably absent and it seemed like he was back to being terrified of the world.
"S-Stop it!"
The man just chuckled darkly and pushed Izuku down to the ground. "Just relax Sweetheart, I'm a bit more experienced than you in this business."
Izuku closed his eyes not bearing to know what would come next.
"Hey!" A voice shouted. There was a grunt and a thud as a body hit the opposite side of the alley.
Izuku opened his eyes and sat up confused. A hand was outstretched in front of him. "You gonna sit there all night kid?"
Izuku took the hand and stood taking in the sight of his savior. He was a tall lanky teenager with bright blue eyes and a shock of red hair that stuck up.
"So is that bat for show or were you just gonna let him have his way with you?" Izuku looked down to the bat still in his hand. He wasn't sure why he still had it. Maybe he thought it would protect him somehow. Obviously he was wrong as he never even thought to use it during that horrifying ordeal.
Izuku suddenly realized that this was a stranger, one who could turn him in or even hurt him.
"W-Who are you? What do you want?!"
Izuku lifted the bat shakily. The teenager gave him a deadpan stare. "Your welcome kiddo. Those are the words you're looking for. And me? Who cares about me?" The light in his eyes darkened. "Who are you kid? And what are you doing out at this hour?"
Izuku gulped looking at the unconscious homeless man on the ground. Well there goes his run from the law. Izuku Midoriya public enemy number 1, caught by the first person he came across on the street.
He might as well tell the truth then. He had nothing to lose.
"I-Izuku Midoriya." The teenage smiled as he seemed to relax. "Well there's a start. Now what are you doing out here? This part of town isn't known for being the best area to go for a moonlit stroll."
Izuku shook in place. Well here it was. "I-I'm a c-criminal." The teenager laughed darkly. "You? A criminal? Kid, don't lie you're not good at it."
Izuku scowled. He didn't believe him? "I killed someone!" The teen's eyes widened. "Really now? So now you're a murderer?"
He teared up recalling Katsuki's death. "I-It's true! I-I'm a monster! I killed someone!"
The teen seemed a bit taken off guard. "Woah kid, it's alright, I-I believe you."
Izuku blinked blearily at him. "You do?"
He ran a hand through his wild hair and sighed. "Yeah I do." He stepped closer when it was clear that Izuku had calmed down.
"My name's Touya. Touya… Todoroki." Izuku's eyes lit up a bit. "Are you related to Endeavor?"
Touya's features turned stony. "Yeah." Izuku may have been a bit oblivious sometimes but even he knew what a sensitive topic sounded like.
They both stood there in an awkward silence for a long moment before Touya coughed into his hand. "Listen, kid you got anywhere you can go?"
Izuku thought of his mother for a split second before shaking his head. "N-No."
Touya looked down at him. "Well, I was gonna go get a place for the rest of the night anyways. I wouldn't mind sharing a room you know."
Izuku looked up at him suspiciously. "You're not gonna turn me in?" Touya shook his head and crookedly smiled. "Nah, after all I'm a bit of a criminal myself. Maybe not a murderer," Izuku flinched. "But not an upstanding citizen either."
Izuku and Touya walked their way past that fated alley that they met in and made their way a lesser known hotel in the shady part of town they were in. It was a bit of a testament to how shady the area was when they could just walk up looking like they did and rent a room.
Izuku followed Touya into their room a small one bedroom one bathroom rental with heavily shaded windows. "Well um, kid why don't you go take a shower. You should throw out those clothes too. I'll go out tomorrow and get you some better ones and some first aid shit to take care of all those wounds you got."
Izuku tiredly nodded, grateful that Touya hadn't pressed him for any details. He stumbled to the bathroom and stripped stepping into the shower that thank God had running hot water. It was a bit of a surreal experience seeing all the dried blood and grime run off of himself but he felt so much better after getting out. He put on his underwear and hesitated seeing the bloody and dirty clothing he had been wearing. Izuku let out a breath and stuffed those in a trashcan before going out to join Touya in the bedroom. Touya was sitting on the bed with his shirt off revealing a myriad of old scars that touched numerous places.
He looked toward the bathroom seeing Izuku in his All Might underwear. "Pfft." He laughed. "I was gonna ask if you cared if I slept without a shirt but I guess that's not a problem. Nice underwear by the way."
Izuku looked down embarrassed. Izuku then looked up feeling faint. He swayed on his feet and Touya quickly got up cradling him.
"You good kid?" Touya asked a concerned look on his face. Izuku teared up. "W-Why are you being so nice to me? I-I'm a murderer."
Touya held him close, his warmth seeping into him. Izuku was laid on the bed and the covers were pulled over him. Touya laid close to him on top of the covers his body heat permeating the blankets. "Did you know that I have a younger brother?"
Izuku shook his head.
"Well, you remind me of him in a way. I just felt like I needed to be there for you, especially since I wasn't there for my brother." His eyes got distant.
"I guess, it's also because I understand." Izuku looked at him in confusion. "I know what it's like to be alone and not know what to do. And if anyone could have been there for me I would have wanted that."
Izuku sniffed. "Th-Thank you."
Touya gave a rare smile and tousled Izuku's damp hair. "It's all right kid. Now you need to get some rest. You need to give your body some time so it can heal."
Izuku nodded and yawned. He was right. Izuku had a very stressful, traumatizing and tiring day and he doubted he got much rest from his nap in the river. Even now he could feel every muscle in his body telling him to rest.
"G'night, Touya."
Touya smiled warmly. "Night kiddo." He leaned over and turned the desk light off letting the darkness wash over them. Sleep took them soon after.
