I want you to be mine.
Selfishly,
thoughtlessly,
mine.
Because
how can you be just friends with someone
who you want to kiss all the time?

There the boy was, perched on the window ledge, basking in the glorious rays of the sun. It cascaded onto him, perfectly illuminating his wheatish skin and had accentuated the white, wide-toothed grin plastered on his face. His gold tinted salmon locks became tousled as the soft, gentle breezes of the wind sneakily weaved into my bedroom, causing the pink coloured curtains to daintily float midair.
Natsu donned a navy blue blazer with Fiore's royal regalia plastered on his breast pocket. One of its buttons were missing, and another was hanging off the thread. Underneath, he wore a white shirt with a red tie hanging loosely around his collar, grey baggy trousers, red converses and the usual white scarf—
"Mornin' Luce!"
He swiftly catapulted from my bedroom window and launched himself onto the silken mattress. Pressing his back against my bundle of velvet pillows, he reclined comfortably on my bed and opened a pack of flamin' hot cheetos from his blue shoulder bag.
"Hey," I greeted. Suddenly, the sounds of crunching reverberated in my ear. "Natsu I swear if you get crumbs on my bed—"
Another loud crunch.
Darting toward him, I scrambled to snatch the packet from Natsu's hand. He briskly switched the snack into the other unoccupied hand, his greasy fingers coalescing with mine. Despite the rough, orange residue that stained his fingertips, his fingers grazed my skin ever so softly. To see his fingers fill the gaps between my own was almost too satisfying…
"You've got the cheeto touch," Natsu simpered as he licked a crumb from the corner of his mouth. "To be honest, it would be a waste if ya didn't lick them off."
I quickly turned my head to avert from his gaze, dusted off my fingers, fixed my school tie and readjusted the red 'Fairy Tail' badge that resided on the lapel of my blazer. "You're gross man. Seriously." I gagged.
Natsu exhaled a mild snort. "You're one to talk, Luce. I've caught you picking your boogers at least once or twice. Don't act like licking crumbs off fingers is worse."
I huffed in annoyance. "Okay, okay, whatever. But what you're not going to do on this fine morning is raise my blood pressure."
I hastily pulled up the remaining black sock over my knee, extending it over my thigh. Consequently, I stumbled and knocked over a few of my novels from the bookshelf behind me. Natsu covered his mouth in an attempt to suppress the chortles that churned in his chest, but ended up erupting in boisterous laughter. "Look at the state of you. Clumsy ass."
Ugh. I honestly couldn't believe that Natsu was a senior. He still acts like he's in middle school. Here we were, kicking off the morning with cheeto crumbs and boogers.
"We gotta go, train to Crocus leaves in twenty minutes." Natsu bounced off the rosewood bed, heading towards the door.
I nodded, promptly slipping into my brown loafers and grabbing my satchel. "Motion sickness tablets?"
Natsu stared blankly at me before grabbing my arm. "Left them. I'll be fine, let's go."
Both of us knew for sure that without those tablets he'd be purging all the food he ate for the past two weeks all over the train carriage.
"I've brought some anyway." I murmured.
"Always got my back, huh?" Natsu smiled, enclosing an arm around me as I fiddled with my keys to lock the door. I sunk into the warmth of his side, appreciative of the simple gesture.
I caught a whiff of his scent. The usual fragrance of cologne, coal and cinnamon. It enticed me, and I could not help but snuggle further into his arm, willingly submerging in his sensual smell. Natsu peered down at me, brow slightly raised as we walked toward the train station. "Cold?"
In pursuit of Natsu's fragrance, it had slipped my mind how close I was to him, head buried close to his chest as he kept his arm around my shoulder. My primitive biological instincts kicked in and completely disregarded how much of a creep I may have appeared to him. Shit.
"K-kinda."I stammered.
Natsu shrugged, and all traces of confusion had left his face, replaced by his usual grin, overlooking the hurdles of businessmen pouring into the train station. Whilst I was mostly grateful for the fact that Natsu did not think too much of what just happened; there was still a lingering part of me that hoped that he pondered the underlying implications of my actions…or simply appreciated that I loved how he smelt.
I silently berated myself for being too careless, blood rushing to my cheeks. I felt like a child, caught doing something they weren't supposed to do.
Ah man, it was way too early in the morning for this.
An expanse of uniform green stood before us, interspersed with weeds and meadow flowers. I trudged under them and they swayed with each gust of wind. Clusters of defiant daffodils reared their golden heads amidst the gloom that smothered the students faces.
We all herded to the decrepit, brown school building which loomed proudly behind the creaky iron gates, flanked by rows of sakura trees. The large, rectangular windows were mullioned and edged thickly in white, glimmering in the sunlight. The school was large, certainly, almost intimidatingly so.
Natsu turned to me. "Do you have the sociology homework Ms Realight gave us? I forgot to do it."
I facepalmed. He was definitely not the most academic of students, preferring to pick fights or occupy himself with sports. One thing for sure is that he was surely consistent in missing his homework deadlines and scoring below sixty percent on class tests. Yet, when it came to end of year assessments Natsu would somehow manage to use his two remaining brain cells to perform decently well.
Still, I disapproved of his lack of effort. Sighing, I took the neatly folded document from my file and handed it to Natsu, who eagerly grabbed it, thriving on the adrenaline that came from doing work in the last minute.
But the sudden shrill of the school bell had alerted students that it was time for them to attend their morning registration. My head whipped back to Natsu, dread twisting both of our features.
"Fuck!"
