HOKAKE OFFICE

I can't believe it, I have fought some of the worst of the worst and not even blinked. I have nearly single-handedly brought about world peace. Here I thought that nothing else in my life could cause me to flinch. Then my old teacher goes and turns the world upside down, AGAIN.

"Genin?"

"That's right," says Kakashi Sensei, a little too smugly. "In just a few short weeks the academy will have the newest batch of graduates ready to become genin, and I have decided to make you one of the jounin instructors."

"Come on Kakashi Sensei you only just made me a jounin. Besides, I don't think that I am the best candidate to do something like this. I mean don't you think you should be getting people with more experience with this stuff to be instructors?"

" I will admit that you are still young, however, I'm not sure if you have noticed but most of the people who have become Hokage have at one time or another taken on a genin team. The second trained the third. lord third trained lady Tunade and lord Jeria. Who in turn trained the man who would become my teacher and your father." Kakashi Sensei going on with one of his speeches. "As you know Naruto you are considered by many to be the one to succeed me but it will still be some time until you are ready to take on that role. Despite what you might think this assignment will teach you how to be the Hokage you want to be."

I stare him down trying to convey with every fiber of my being how much of a bad idea I think this is. He just looks back with an unchanging face. After a few minutes of no one moving an inch, Kakashi Sensei seems to be the first one to blink. After letting out a big sigh He tells me, "look Naruto neither of us are going to back down so I will tell you that there's a way out of this if you really feel like this won't be a good fit."

I blink dumbstruck that I might actually have won an argument with Kakashi Sensei. I give him a skeptical look, "I'm listening".

Kakashi Sensei flashes a wily smile "all you have to do is fail your team" as he continues I start to realize what he is saying. "After all the kids aren't full-fledged genin until they pass the test given to them by the jounin assigned to them. If you fail them then they go back to the academy and I will have no choice but to keep you on active duty." he laid so much sarcasm into that last part that even my 12 year old self would have picked up that he has something up his sleeve. " I'm not sure if the three of you ever heard this but before team 7 there were a number of groups assigned to me that I refused to pass."

I do remember Iruka Sensei saying something like that when he had one too many drinks at ichiraku after the war. "I know this is one of your tricks," I say right Kakashi Sensei half-face "but, fine I'll do it, so what are you hiding?"

"Well that's great," Kakashi Sensei says pulling out a mission folder "this is the dossier that I have compiled on your perspective team." as I take the file and skim through the files I can see with just a glance that Kakashi Sensei has been just as thorough with gathering the information as he is with everything. "Now about your question" Hear it comes "you have one week to observe the recuts and consult with anyone about what you want to do. At the end of the week, you need to submit a full report about what you think your recruits need to work on and what you plan to do for their survival training exercise. Finally, after the exercise, you will then need to submit a follow-up report of the pass or fail status of the recruits and your recommendation for what should be done with them in the event they do fail."

"PAPERWORK" The dread palpable in my voice. After two years of hell studying with Iruka Sensei to get my jounin rank. I've found that all my missions end with so much paperwork that it has become a running joke among all my friends that the endless paperwork has traumatized me more than anything that happened during the war, and I'm starting to think that they are right. "Your ulterior motive this whole time was just getting me to agree without me finding out that it would mean a bunch more reports."

"Well it worked didn't it, and before you say anything I will remind you who's the one always saying stuff like "I never go back on my word""

I just stand there Staring daggers at him. "I… BUT YOU...FINE" giving up knowing that there is nothing I can do that he hasn't seen me doing, I take the file. "I'll play your game, but I want it to be known that I do this under duress. Now what do you mean what I plan on doing, aren't I just supposed to do the bell test."

"Not necessarily the bell test has been the test that has been passed from teacher to student ever since Lord third taught the sannin, but every one has put their own spin on it. As the jounin instructor, it's up to you if you want to do it or not."

"OK if that is all I think that I'll go"

As I turn to leave Kakashi Sensei called Out in a Singsong voice "Have FUN"
