Chokes on You~
Author Notes: Well...what started out as a joke between me and my friends while playing game 1 turned into this little one shot. And since Sen will never forgive me if I Don't type this, we best get this thing moving. I do not own Danganronpa.
3rd P.O.V
"QUIET! Everyone shut up and listen to Master!"
The Ultimate (Un)Lucky couldn't help but flinch as Genocide Jill waved her scissors around. He noticed with morbid curiosity that they were gleaming in the light, sharp and clean as if untainted.
But he knew those deadly shears of hers were dangerous, though he fortunately hasn't had a chance to find out for himself, he's seen the insane fiend in action. This split persona of Toko was a serial killer for god's sake!
So he kept his mouth shut, obey the insane woman so that Byakuya could move things along. It was another day, where once more the group of Ultimates were forced to take part in Monokuma's deadly trial.
This was the fourth time he and his friends were down here, hearing Monokuma repeat the rules(as if they didn't already know what to do at this point. What were they five?) And again here they were, pointing fingers and arguing amongst themselves to survive.
He hated this! Once more he was forced to push aside his sadness over losing a friend in order to catch the perpetrator responsible for this mess. It really sucked...every time Makoto had faith that things were getting better, and make progress-someone would break their trust.
"Now the key to unlocking this mystery was hiding in the chem lab on the fourth floor..."
Their morals or strength would falter, and kill. They've lost many friends since that first day of waking up in a random classroom of Hope's Peak Academy. Those poor victims of circumstance, and those who paid the Ultimate price for submitting to this insane murder game.
It made him so angry, knowing that it kept happening-and that the stupid bear Monokuma was getting his sick kicks from it. Still...out of all the people he's met in this hellish school life, and getting to know these incredible Ultimates, he never expected Sakura to die.
She was the Ultimate Martial Artist. Out of everyone she arguably was(if not) the strongest person here in both mind and body. She was a protector, someone who was always willing to aide the group in trying escape as well as Hina's rock.
So to find out she was the traitor, a spy for Monokuma and then die shortly after that news was revealed left a bitter taste in his mouth. Makoto, despite what the others said, believed in Sakura, and wanted to not just solve this case to survive, but also to bring justice to whoever was behind this.
"In the chem lab, there's a shelving unit that houses a variety of mixtures and chemicals. And that's where I found...this!"
However that proved to be far harder than he originally planned. Kyoko though wasn't mad at him anymore(thank god!) she couldn't really help him with searching for evidence, since both her and Hina were placed in charge of guarding Sakura's body.
Hina in general never really liked doing the investigations, but now...she was a wreck. Either she was crying, absolutely broken from the loss of her friend, or she was enraged, pointing fingers at the three people who she felt were behind the fallen warrior's death.
Hiro, Toko, and the big shot himself...Byakuya. The blond aristocrat stood oozing with confidence as he spoke. Playing around with a little glass bottle. Up until now he allowed Makoto to call the shots.
With the average excuse for a pushover examining the evidence and putting himself heavily into the debate, they managed to discover Hiro and Toko's innocence in Sakura's demise. Explaining why the deceased was wounded the way she was-as well as why things were so complicated this time around.
"It's not an especially powerful poison, but it'll still kill you if you drink an entire bottle. But the specific properties of the substance doesn't matter...what does matter is where I found it."
Granted these murder cases were always complicated...but reading the evidence this time around was a grueling challenge. It was an absolute relief to the short teen when the Ultimate Affluent Progeny took over.
Like Kyoko, Byakuya was usually the one who was able to figure things out, leading everyone to the correct decision. So it only made sense that everyone had their complete focus on the blonde. For once he was keeping his statements simple, allowing for everyone to understand his theory.
"Strange isn't it? Now what would a bottle of poisons be doing in the section full of dietary supplements?"
Hiro, now knowing that he was innocent was far more active and helpful in contributing to the trial. And from the looks of it he was easily becoming Byakuya's little assistant. He had all the right questions to ask, with Byakuya more than willing to smugly answer them.
"Because the culprit switched it out, that's why."
Hina had a confused expression on her face, her eyebrows narrowed slightly as she asked Byakua what he meant. Makoto took a glance in Kyoko's direction, wondering what her opinion was in this whole thing.
She barely said anything compared to the other trials. Much to his dismay, her face was completely void of emotion, giving him no answers. And it worried him. Especially when she wouldn't look in his direction.
"I mean...this."
The moment Makoto returned his gaze to Byakuya he gasped in shock. Watching in slow motion as the cold hearted man put the bottle of poison to his lips. Panic was spreading through the group as they stared on.
Yet Byakuya was completely calm, as if drinking a bottle of poison was natural or a-ok. It most certainly wasn't! It took a few seconds of everyone being in this position before there was a change.
The lucky student saw that smug, superior expression on his classmate's face quickly morphed to surprise. He coughed and choked, his hand blindly reaching for his face. Makoto was frozen in fear as blood splattered from the boy's mouth.
Hiro and Genocide Jill were screaming, their voices reaching three pitches too high. Kyoko springs into action, leaving her podium as Monokuma laughed, howling with tears in his eyes as if he were watching some sort of comedy. "We need to get him to the nurses office now!"
The trial was put on hold as Byakuya was slowly losing his sense of awareness. He was going into shock, he couldn't breathe! Why was this happening? His conclusion was absolutely flawless.
So then why did it feel like his throat was being shredded apart? He found himself quickly falling into darkness as hands grabbed at his expensive suit. He found himself floating into an endless abyss just waiting.
He was unsure how long he was out, but when he came to he was surprised to find everyone there waiting for him. Makoto smiled down at him, the first to realized his awakening. "Thank goodness you're conscious. How are you feeling?"
One by one, the remaining survivors came into view, each expressing worry and relief. "Fine." It felt like his lungs were rubbed raw with sandpaper, he could barely speak. And what sound did manage to escape was a raspy mess. It was going to be a long healing process.
He tried sitting up, demanding answers only to be gently pushed back down onto the mattress. "Take it easy man-you nearly killed yourself with that stupid stunt." Byakuya's eye twitched-it was in general an insulting comment...but for it to come from Hiro of all people really made it sting his pride.
"I'll say~ Puhuhuhuhuu!" And then as if to truly add salt to the wound, the damn monochrome bear decided to pop in out of nowhere. Both front paws making a poor attempt of covering his sadistic grin. "What kind of idiot swallows glass fragments anyways?!" Wait what?
He was truly confused now, his expression meeting Kyoko's as he without asking, desired an explanation. And frankly the more he heard, the more he found himself angry. Angry and embarrassed.
He would never live this down-Not only was he wrong in his theory, but he nearly died from something that would be most commonly done by idiotic children. Forcing him to completely miss the rest of the trial.
Even worse...now he owed a debt as Kyoko and Makoto had been the ones who managed to save his life. "I must thank you for the assistance in solving the case Byakuya, as it was because of you that I was able to submit new evidence to find the truth of the matter."
He cursed, despising everything-Especially Kyoko and her amused smirk. Oh if looks could kill-she would be dead a million times over. Like rubbing salt into an already irritated wound he saw her raise her arm for him to see. In her hand was the damn shard of light blue glass that got lodged in his throat.
The end.
Author Notes: Well that ended well. This was meant to be an April's Fool story that was more comedical and light hearted...but it's danganronpa-what do you want me to say. Welp Sen's happy, and I managed to get this up and match up with the little scenario I envisioned.
Alright guys, just want to say thanks for reading! If you guys like this little out of the blue one shot please feel free to fav/follow/review as it means a ton to me~
I gotta be honest though... It was nice writing Byakuya suffering-I waited four chapters to see this dirtbag get what's coming to him! Although the game scenario was also massively entertaining. Tchao for now folks.
