A quarter moon shone down upon forest, trees letting trickles of light down into the clearing below through their leaves. The clearing covered in a thick coat of leaves with tufts of grass sticking up amongst them. Even the faintest smell of countless small critters present was enough to overwhelm even the poorest sense of smell, at one end of the clearing was the source of these smells.
Inside one of the dark dens, a bluish gray she-cat sat nuzzling her kits in a tight grasp. Her fur tufts twitched and pricked in the wind, while her eye lids twitched and then blinked open. The she-cat let out a purr at the sight of the two kits nestled down at her belly. The bluish gray she-kit curled up close, and the dark reddish brown tabby tom nestled under one of the she-cat's paws.
The she-cat leaned her neck forward and rasped her tongue over the tom's head, but her eyes diverted to the entrance and out to the night sky. Breathing in through her mouth, she scented the air.
"Hello my sweet, miss me?"
The she-cat whipped her head around at the sound of the voice, eyes meeting a pair of gray eyes that glared from the darkness. "You are not meant to be here!"
"I just only came home, can I not see my lineage?" the tom meowed, his broad face emerging from the darkness. "What crime am I committing."
"You are trespassing here!"
"In this nursery?"
"On our territory!"
The dark warrior's grin faded from his face, his brow furrowing. "Oh, I see… so that is still the case."
The gray she-cat bushed out her fur, sharp claws digging into the moss with unease. Raising herself up to her paws, with her long legs stretching yet wobbly, but she held her ground. "Again, you are not supposed to be here!" she hissed.
The dark warrior's muzzle pulled back to show rows of sharp teeth, a grin with dark intent for sure. "So what? I have clearly hidden my scent if you have had taken this long to recognize me, I will just be a ghost here to our clanmates."
"My clanmates, you are not a part of this clan remember?" the she-cat hissed.
"Bluepelt, what has happened to us?"
"Go away!"
"My love…"
"Go away!" the she-cat hissed while swiping at his face, the tom pulled back and hissed. "Fine!" before he disappeared.
The she-cat heaved out of her lungs, tail twitching behind her. She peeked her head out of the gap in the wall, seeing the black tip of a dark reddish tail disappear. She sat and heaved out breaths, and then a sigh as she turned and walked back into the nursery. The kits seemed undisturbed by the sudden absence of their mother.
The she-cat sat down and wrapped closely around the kits again, her small pink nose sat only a few inches away from the she-cat. And the tom lay buried into her neck fur, his muzzle breathing in and out while he cuddled closer.
