Chapter 1
Leia sat at the desk in her quarters, which were located near the Senate Building rubbing her palms as a headache made her feel miserable right at this moment. To her it felt like it just had been yesterday, that the Empire had been beaten and the Rebel Alliance rebuilt the Republic but right now it felt like at that work had been for nothing at the end. The newly formed Senate had been split into two factions: The Populists wanted the Member Worlds of the New Republic to keep their sovereignty, declined a central government like there was back in the days of the Old Republic and on the other side were the Centrists.
The different political views had caused a lot of turmoil so far, both her and Mon Mothma were determined to fight to keep the New Republic alive at all costs. We have just sacrificed too much in this war against the Empire to let that all be destroyed by some stupid political power struggles! Leia thought as she now stood at the large window, from where you had a wonderful view over the Imperial City.
She was so lost into her thoughts, that she didn't realize that Han had sneaked up upon her and covered her eyes with his hands as he said:
"Hey have you missed me?" Of course, she knew instantly who that hands on her face belonged to and so she turned around with a huge smile on her face and replied: "Yes I've missed you so much." The two hugged each other for quite a while and for a moment all the stress at the Senate was forgotten for now. It was obvious to Han how exhausted his wife was right now, even if he also knew her well enough to say that she would never admit to anybody that she needed to have a break from all the hard work. Especially during the long process of transforming the military alliance into a government had been a thing, where many obstacles had been put into their way and Han had always made sure to stay out of politics.
Jedi Training Center, Yavin IV
In a large round room, a couple of children stood in a half circle on their heads they wore helmets that covered their faces and a little training droid was flying around as he several blaster shots kept coming at the Jedi Younglings. As they concentrated on deflecting the blaster shots with their lightsabers, the old & wise Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker watched this whole thing from the distance but at the same time he also kept asking himself one question:
Was I really the right person to teach the children of Leia the ways of the force?
Right from the start he had sensed that both of Leia's children would be strong in the force and from the moment, where she had asked him to teach her children how to use the force he had started to second guess himself as he always had that one big doubt planted in the back of his mind:
What if history repeated itself and either one of his sister's children, that he shared a close connection with turned to the Dark Side just like his father did?
For a while he had been busy with trying to get rid of that doubt, reminding himself that his self- doubt could expose himself to the dark side. To get this whole thing out of his mind for now, he turned his full attention back to his young students and he looked at one little girl in particular:
Kira, who had shown a lot of potential when it came to using the force but had also buried some demons deep inside her soul that could very well consume her one way or another.
A loud scream caught his attention and he quickly realized that it came from the other end of the room where Leia's son Jacen was standing and apparently, he seemed to struggle a lot with this training exercise. The training droid broke through his defenses with not much effort and Luke wasn't surprised by his outburst in any way, as it had been evident right from the start that Jacen had sometimes trouble with keeping his temper in check.
Luke left his position to get closer to the young boy and said: "Easy Jacen, I know that you're upset with not getting that training exercise done correctly at this point but you need to keep your anger in check to avoid letting the dark side get control of you."
Jacen sight even if knew that this would earn him a look of disapproval by his master, but at this point he didn't care as it just was too frustrating to apparently be the only one that has problems with this exercise.
"I'm sorry Master Luke for letting my emotions get the best of me."
The young boy replied and then Luke said: "Now think about what I've told you what you should do when the anger is trying to divert you from the right path and then let's restart that exercise."
