Book 2: Desolatus

Chapter 1

THEN

The air was filled with many auras and energy as the Goddess-Princess Anna or Arendelle fought the embodiment of death itself, the evil sorcerer Lord Durion

The Ice-Queen Elsa of Arendelle had began working on saving her first love Kapre, the orphan of fire. Too much was at risk should this plan fail.

Elsa shot ice particles at the chains holding Kapre, releasing him. Elsa caught him as he fell and then laid him down. She ran her hand across his cold, almost-lifeless cheek. "I got to act fast," she muttered. She held up the crystals of life, ice, fire, and death given to them by the trolls, but paused. "What do I do?" She looked at the crystals and Kapre, her mind thinking of a way to fix him, but without the power to control the dark crystals, it didn't seem possible.

"Use the dark crystals on yourself," said a voice. Olaf the happy snowman came up beside Elsa.

"Olaf? Wha—but how do you know?"

"Remember when I said that I already helped?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, I put a part of your soul into him," said Olaf matter-of-factly.

Elsa's eyes widened. "How?"

"It's just like how you brought me to life: with love." Olaf smiled. "This will allow your soul to travel into Kapre to save him."

Elsa held the dark crystals together, and they all fused into a black stone, giving off a horrible aura.

"Now put the crystal into your heart."

"But Olaf, if I do this, will I... Die?"

"Become like Kapre to guide his soul back to his body and remove the darkness in his heart," said Olaf.

As instructed, Elsa held the stone to her heart.

"When you become possessed by the crystal, fight the urge to become evil, remember your mission, and work your way to his core and touch Kapre's heart to withdraw the evil."

"Olaf, if I don't make it... tell Anna that I love her and to look after Arendelle," said Elsa. Her voice broke on the last word.

"You'll make it," was all Olaf said.

Elsa pushed the crystal into her heart.

"I can feel it! The power!" She suddenly became demonic and sinister-looking.

"Elsa, remember who you are!" Olaf shouted, but Elsa seemed fascinated by the powers building up inside her.

"This world... is mine!" Elsa's hands thick with black ice.

"Elsa! Kapre needs you!" Olaf yelled, trying to reach Elsa.

She looked down at Kapre and stopped. "Kapre... I must... Save him." She held her head and screamed. "It hurts!" The many evil voices in her head screeching and scratching. She fell to her knees.

"Fight it!" Olaf hugged Elsa, feeling sorry for the Ice Queen.

Then suddenly everything was still... No noise nor wind was moving except for one being.

They walked over to Elsa as she was holding her head in agony while the dark powers flowed through her veins, Olaf clinging to her side hoping to help the queen through this tragic and trying moment.

"Just in time" a sinister voice rang out as they crouched down to Elsa's point of view, they extended their hand and touched her forehead.

Elsa, now able to move stood up and took in the surrounding view, her mouth formed an evil smile and a burst of laughter most evil cut through the air.

"It won't last forever, but this form should last me the next millennia"

A portal opened and the now twisted Elsa walked through and vanished from thin air.

NOW - 6 years later

The fire king consort opened his eyes to a brand new day, the sun barely touching the horizon.

He rubbed his eyes of sleep and scratched his head before turning on his side to meet the face of his beautiful wife, Queen Elsa.

Whilst smiling, he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead before slowly making his way out of bed towards the balcony.

The chill of the morning breeze hit his face, breathing in deeply through his nose, smelling the morning dew.

He then in an instant launched himself high into the air, almost as high as the castle itself.

Falling at a great speed, his flames surrounded him then shot him forward, cutting through the fjord waters then up into the dim-lit sky.

Flying over the kingdom, many early rising commoners wave and cheer as he brightens the sky

"Good morning!" Kapre shouts as best as he could then continues through the clouds and into the rising sun.

His mind running over events that have transpired over the last few years bringing up all the challenges he has faces and trials he has overcome.

None of which would have been possible without Elsa... The mere thought of his beloved wife causes his flames to brighten and shoot him forwards even faster.

'No amount of words could ever find a way to make sense of this...'.

After a good hour of flying and greeting the commoners, he finally lands in the courtyard, his flames subside until all that remains is a suit made of gentle flames; a trick which Elsa had taught him as each time his powers would activate he would ruin his good suits.

He approaches Kai, the steward of Arendelle teaching a young boy that very much resembles himself.

The young boy turned to the sudden appearance of Kapre and ran as fast as his little legs could towards him

"Dad!" The boy shouts as his arms wrap around Kapre holding him tightly

"Good morning my son," Kapre returned the hug then swiftly picked up the boy with ease "How is your studying going? I hope you're doing well"

The boy pouted and huffed "Yeah they're okay I guess if you like boring stuff" Kapre laughed then lowered the boy down.

"Oh, come on, Kai isn't that bad! He taught your mother and Aunty Anna many things when they were younger and they aren't that boring now are they?"

"No.." The boy answered then quickly smiled and ran inside the castle knowing that Aunty Anna hasn't woken up yet and it's about time she should.

"Prince Charles is a fine young man, why I haven't had a child as mischievous as him since Princess Anna was a young one but he remains to be clever," Kai spoke to the king as they watched the boy call out for Aunty Anna.

"He has that side to him, I believe Princess Anna has a big influence on him"

"She influences us all my lord, she has a light in her that is a beacon to those with a pure heart," Kai added as he hastily followed the boy to stop him before he brings the castle to chaos, it's better to let Princess Anna sleep in nowadays.

Kapre chuckles then made his way into the library where a young girl who looked almost the same as a young Elsa sat with Gerda, the head senior servant of the Arendelle castle.

"... And if we look back on Arendelle's past, we once shared a magical bond with the Northuldran people," Gerda pointed to the book in her hand as the young girl in front of her nodded in response.

"Good morning my daughter," Kapre interrupted, Rain shot up and hugged her father, "Good morning father," the little girl whispered before walking back and sitting down.

"Gerda has been teaching me the history of Arendelle, did you know that during my mother's coronation she froze the entire kingdom?"

"Yeah, I knew that your mother hasn't always been able to control her magic" Kapre laughed a little, knowing just how far Elsa has come since knowing of her past.

"Maybe one day I will control my magic just like you and mother can" Rain nodded then sat back down and began reading her books again with Gerda. Kapre's face had gone from a smile to an almost worried look, knowing full well that there is only one person who could teach his daughter how to use her magic... And that man's gone, for good hopefully.

He shook his head of these thoughts and left to go find Elsa, who had in fact risen out of bed by now.

Elsa had risen and was already in a meeting, having skipped breakfast and avoided running into just about anyone who would stop her from being late.

Sleep hasn't been easy for Elsa as of late, while in the meeting she is trying with all her might to keep her eyes open.

"... This brings our kingdoms relationship with the Eastern kingdom Kalmar and its tradable goods up as the king has agreed to share its resources if you supply the ice which if I may say your Majesty you're more than capable of-" Elsa stood up furiously her chair pushing backward, interrupting the man who was speaking.

"Do I look like a Jester to you!? you expect me - Your queen; to just perform magic tricks like some kind of performing circus animal!?" Elsa stared the man down, he let out a gulp and would wipe away sweat from his forehead if the temperature hadn't plummeted

"My sincerest apologies my Queen please forgive me" he lowered his head and hugged his arms trying to keep warm.

Elsa having realised what she was doing released her powers and rubbed her head, a headache building behind her eyes

"No, I'm so sorry. I have a minor headache and it's making me feel irritant. Your plan is an excellent idea and we shall go forward with it. Now if that is all I'd like to go get some rest," Elsa stood and made her way towards the exit.

"And your Majesty no need to apologise, please get some rest" the man smiled, knowing that his queen truly meant no harm. Her powers can still be a sensitive subject when she isn't feeling herself.

Walking down the long halls was always Elsa's least favourite part of living in a castle, they seemed to stretch on for a long time leaving Elsa with her thoughts. The dreams she had been having lately were of her daughter Rain, the dark powers dwelling inside just waiting to come out. Nightmares of previous events with Lord Durion using his dark powers to reshape the world haven't made it easier. Despite her dreams, she loves her daughter will all her heart.

After for what seemed an eternity of walking, she reached the great hall where the servants had set up a breakfast just for her, knowing she hasn't eaten.

She sat down, and began eating, Kapre walked in quietly with both Children following him.

"Good morning my love," Kapre pulled Elsa's head back suddenly and kissed her while she had a mouthful of food, she giggled in surprise then hastily swallowed.

"Good morning! Sorry I missed breakfast this morning. So much to do, so little sleep," Elsa sighed. Her children snuck up beside her and kissed her cheeks.

"And good morning to you too, my beautiful children!" Elsa pulled them in and hugged them lovingly, Kapre couldn't help but smile at the sight before him, it's everything he's ever loved all in one memorable moment.

Kristoff made his way through the castle gates, through the castle and up to the room he and Anna share.

He opened the door to find a pregnant Anna fast asleep 'So Charles didn't wake her this morning' he sighed with relief.

Quietly he walked through the room and gently placed his belongings down then went through his bag pulling out a box of chocolates, a saucepan and a bunch of carrots.

He placed the chocolates in the saucepan then placed it on the bed-warmer, melting the chocolate filling the air with its sweet smell.

"Mmm... Chocolate..." Anna mumbled in her sleep then promptly opened her eyes and sat up

Kristof then dipped the carrot in the chocolate and handed it to Anna, which she greedily bit down on

"That is Soo good! You really know how to treat a girl" Anna said while crunching down on the orange vegetable.

"What wouldn't I do for you, my feisty redhead" He smiled. Then the sudden silence from crunching made him realise what he had said.

"... Who you calling feisty?" Anna eyed him down, lowering the carrot from her mouth.

"I meant it lovingly! You know? Like you're a fighter! You can really hold your own. Here have more chocolate and carrots," he placed the carrots and saucepan in front of her, she began eating almost immediately.

Kristoff left the room in a hurry and met up with Sven and Olaf, Sven giving Kristoff a pouty look

"I'm sorry buddy, Anna is having cravings and unfortunately its carrots and chocolate," he patted Sven's head and pulled out a hidden carrot to which Sven bit down on excitedly

"That was hard enough to sneak out as it is, she almost bit off Olaf's nose last week," Kristoff then bit down on the same carrot Sven left his reindeer saliva on

"It was terrifying! The hungry look in her eye sent a chill down my snowflakes…" Olaf shuddered at the memory as he protectively held his carrot nose.

"It will be an amazing experience though, being a father," Kristoff sat against the wall waiting for Anna to finish her breakfast, imagining what life will be like raising a child.

"Does that make Sven the uncle?" Olaf asked, breaking Kristoff out of his imagination

"He's a reindeer, don't be silly" Kristoff waved his hand at Olaf, brushing off his question.

"Don't worry Sven, I think you'll be a great reindeer uncle," Olaf patted the confused reindeer's nose.

They swung the frying pan fast and hard, colliding with a bright shiny sword repeatedly.

"You're getting better but at this rate even Max remains better than you," Eugene laughed as the sword got knocked from the young boy's hand.

"Again!" The boy shouted as he ran to retrieve his sword

"That's enough for today Alex, you're doing great! Better than I was at your age, but you need to have a better grip on your sword and watch your footing."

Alex is the son of Eugene and Rapunzel, he has his father's boyish charm and agility, his mother's determination and also her powers.

"You're the last person who should give advice on either of those," Rapunzel added as he lowered herself to hug her son

"Hey, I fixed the grip problem, remember? And what's wrong with my footing?" Eugene added, trying to defend himself.

"You have a little problem called foot in mouth disease," Rapunzel laughed as she walked Alex inside.

"What if I practise with you, mom? You seem more knowledgeable than dad does," Rapunzel blinked in surprise then sat down.

"No sweety, I can help with your powers but trust me, your father is a very talented man. He used to use his talents for the wrong reasons but has since come a long way and is now a great man adored by all."

"… He is?" Alexx questioned with a flat expression, looking over at the man he calls a father scratching his armpit then smelling his fingers only to look away in disgust.

"He's a charmer all right" Rapunzel gazed lovingly at Eugene.

"Gross "Alex shook his head, then went on inside. Eugene walked up to Rapunzel and kissed her and spun her around in the air.

"Hello! What was that for?" Rapunzel pulled Eugene in closer, pressing her nose against his

"Every time you remind me of how far I've come from being a petty thief it reminds me of when I first met you, how in love I am with you and the dream we've built together,"

"You're amazing Eugene Fitzherbert… Especially when you want me to scrub your back for you," Rapunzel tapped the top of his nose

"And you know me so well" The couple went inside to get ready for the day.

On the outskirts of Arendelle high on the hills were a group of mysterious people with glowing purple eyes. They eyed the castle wearing horrific smiles.

As they made their way forward another mysterious figure jumped down from the trees and attacked the group, one by one they were cut down until only one was left standing, only there was a sword deep in his chest.

"He will return, you can't stop us all. She is his link, and fate binds them!" The last person laughed, then spat up blood before falling silent.

The swordman removed his sword from the man's chest, performed Chiburi, then sheathed his sword. After removing his helmet, he looked over all the bodies before promptly lighting them on fire and tipping a vile of life essence on the ashes.

"I have purified them" They young boy said, he held the amulet around his neck.

"Robbed of mind I grant you choice, rise fallen victims as you hear my voice," The amulet glowed and people crawled out of the ashes.

"... Where am I?" One person asked. But by this stage the boy had vanished high above the trees, away from the people who were crawling out of their temporary grave.

The boy looked over at Arendelle and the royal castle with determination; he placed his helmet on then leaped between the trees at lightning speed without a sound.

'I will protect you all'.
