It has been almost a decade since everyone graduated from UA. In the end, not everyone decided to become a hero, but that's okay. Dreams change as people grow. At least, that's what you kept telling yourself within your current position.
Now in your mid-twenties, you worked as an agent for an underground company that gathered intelligence for heroes. It was assistance without the branding of a sidekick. It was the work without the spotlight of a hero, and you were okay with that.
Your quirk wasn't the flashy type. In fact, it was almost identical to your rival, Hitoshi Shinso's, without the limitation of requiring your victim to speak first. However, its setback was that the timeframe in which you controlled a person with your words coincided with yours along with the recipient's physical stamina . It could range from as low as ten seconds to as high as an hour. Recently, it's been the latter.
Tonight was a big night. The League of Villains had since multiplied their numbers regarding the amount of Nomus they possessed. The world had faced a tremendous loss many years back whenever All Might had passed away, but not before he took All for One with him as well. It wasn't the intention of the hero to kill, but it was the exhaustion of the villain that was ultimately his overwhelming demise. The abundance of Nomus was suspected to be because of the organization's lack of a ringleader. However, rumor has it that a new evil boss was going to emerge, but who? That's exactly what you were going to find out.
Except, there was one little problem.
"No," you gasped. "No, no, no, no, no!" Your boss stood with both hands raised along with a closed-eyed, nervous smile as he faced the backlash of your rage. "Of all the heroes to accompany me, why does it have to be this one?!" You pointed an angry finger at the ticking time bomb beside you.
The pro merely rolled his eyes at your exclamations. His costume had matured over the years, but there was no changing the distinguishable factors of his arm grenades and his orange, explosive headpiece. Indeed, the person you refused to partner up with was the world's youngest number one hero: Katsuki Bakugo. He was otherwise known as, your ex-boyfriend.
"[F/N]," your boss pleaded, "let's be professional here. I'll lay out the facts again." He waited until you weren't heaving anymore to continue. "The tip we got for tonight's operation was very suspicious. Not even our best-" You cleared your throat to correct him. "Second best agent could find where the information came from. It might have very well been sent from the League of Villains themselves. With a figurehead as big as King Explosion Murder there, you'll be safe, and they won't try any big public stunts."
You were able to finally calm down by the end of the explanation, crossing your arms over your chest with a low 'hmph' that signaled your dissatisfied agreement. As you eyed the infuriating blond, there was only one thing that you could say to him. "I still can't believe they let you keep that name."
"Beggars can't be choosers," Bakugo responded with a smug grin, "and I didn't beg to be number one. I worked my ass up the chain, so they had to do things my way."
"Whatever," you grumbled, annoyed by but simultaneously feeling nostalgic towards his justified overconfidence. You didn't bother with goodbyes as you made your way out of the building. "If you're not out in five, I'm leaving your ass!"
Bakugo sauntered behind you, carrying on a conversation that made your boss regret every decision he's made thus far. "That's not how I remember it happening."
"Shut the fuck up!"
As the two of you cruised through the back alleys of the night, it was deathly quiet. Normally, the town in which you were observing had a much higher crime rate after evening time. However, the only anomaly in sight was the lack of it. It made you hyperaware of the hand that was reaching into your back pocket as you almost immediately slapped it away, fuming.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Your voice was an aggressive whisper, though at this point, anything could have given the two of you away. It was that quiet.
"Calm down," Bakugo said, shrugging his shoulders innocently. "It's an emergency pager, just in case we get separated." You felt the material of your back pocket, confirming that his explanation was correct. However, you couldn't help but pinch the bridge of your nose.
"And you couldn't have given it to me in a normal ass way," you snapped.
His grin was coy. "Well, you don't have a normal ass, so…"
"That's sexual assault!"
Boom!
An explosion in the distance stopped your bickering short. You and Bakugo gave each other a sideways glance along with an understanding nod before you immediately hopped onto his back. Where you lacked in a quirk necessary for transport, that's where he came in. And though you wouldn't admit it, as Bakugo piggy backed you through the air to the scene of the crime, it was jarring how good of an instinctive partnership the two of you made.
Nomus. Four… no, five, by your count. You had dismounted from Bakugo once you both arrived. Civilians were fleeing in a frenzy, and there were a handful of lesser known heroes to help amend the situation, but they weren't doing very well on their own.
"Handle the Nomus while I scan the area," you instructed, quickly skimming your surroundings. "We meet back here in one hour!" As you were about to run off, your feet paused at the sound of his voice.
"[F/N]!" It was the first time he had taken you seriously all day, with a look that made you miss simpler times. "Be careful." With a nod, the two of you parted ways.
However, if you had known the events to come…
You wouldn't have left.
Your hands were gripping the shoulders of a terrified bystander, attempting to shake some sense into him, though to no avail. His voice, along with his body, was trembling. Your questions were responded with incoherent words, which only made your job harder.
"Calm down," you said, watching as his widened eyes began to relax. "That's it. Now, tell me, what did you see when this all happened?" The adolescent boy opened his mouth to speak, but the only thing that came out was an ear piercing scream as a sedan crashed upside down right behind you two. "Oh, for fuck's sake!"
Another setback of your quirk was that you could only use one command at a time. Therefore, you couldn't keep the recipient calm if you were forcing him to answer a question. A Nomu with pterodactyl-like wings crash landed on top of the car that it had propelled, rising on all fours as it faced you with an intimidating screech. The boy had already run off.
Despite the threat, you looked at it calmly, albeit a little annoyed that it had interrupted your interrogation. It pounced at you, ready to strike until it was stopped in its tracks by a singular word.
"Stop." Like an obedient dog, its outstretched arms and claws fell back to its sides. "Sit." It did, and without any hesitation, you walked around the creature to climb its back. "Take me to your boss – safely." The fly was smooth as it did what you instructed, though as you two made it to the destination, it seemed like a dead end. Well, because it was!
The Nomu had taken you to one of the back alleys that you and Bakugo had already searched. It was basically drenched in black minus the minimal exposure of the dimming string lights on the side of a nearby building. When your feet hit the ground, you questioned if your quirk was even working on the beast. However, from his lack of intention to kill you, you knew that it wasn't your power that was off.
"Return to the city and surrender yourself to Ba…" With an aggravated sigh, you grit your teeth as you said, "King Explosion Murder." Once Nomu had left, it was just you with your thoughts – at least, that's what it seemed like. "What a stupid hero name," you muttered.
"I couldn't agree more."
The voice made your entire body tense. It wasn't its ominous presence nor the fact that the culprit was hidden from sight. It was because you actually recognized who the person speaking was that your heart felt as if it would beat out of its chest. You faced the direction of the sound with clenched fists and narrowed eyes.
"Wha~ So scary." The voice had a sing-song lilt to it along with an undertone of a chuckle. "Are you going to hurt me, [F/N]-chan?"
"Shut up and show yourself," you seethed, watching as the male finally stepped into the light. "…Izuku." You hadn't seen him ever since the incident with All Might and All for One. No one had. It was as if he disappeared off the face of the planet, and for a while, you assumed that he was… dead.
But here he was. He was taller. His hair was shaved at the sides, but he left the familiar curls of green atop his head. He wore sleek, black dress shoes along with a matching pair of slacks, gloves and a tie. His wardrobe was finished off with a collared white shirt that was unbuttoned at the top, and there was blood. A lot of blood. A majority of it stained the extremities of his torso, with a messy splatter across the left side of his face.
It was clear that your peer was no longer a part of heroics, and after putting two and two together, you knew that he had to be the new leader behind the League of Villains… as much as you didn't want to admit it. His presence backed you up against a wall, and you barely had time to hold a hand up in the midst of your shock.
"Stop! Don't come any closer." You two were the ideal distance away if this era had taken place during a virus-ridden pandemic.
"Aww," he whined, finally able to speak as he puffed out his bottom lip. "You're no fun." He couldn't help but notice how your other hand reached down into your back pocket, and the sound of a mini electronic beep made his lips curl into a mischievous smile. "Calling for help already? Let me guess…" He feigned obliviousness by taking a moment as he placed his thumb and index finger against his chin. "…Kacchan?"
Was he toying with you? It was as if everything was amusing to him, despite how calling backup would place him at a disadvantage. You clenched your jaw as your hands returned to your sides.
"Even if he doesn't come, whatever you're planning – you failed!" Midoriya tilted his head to the side in confusion, a small grin on his face. "We've already apprehended the Nomus, and reinforcement is going to get here any minute, s-so…" Shit. You spent so much time rambling that you hadn't realized how Midoriya had been able to free himself already. "You're not allowed to use your quirk!"
It was the only thing that you could think of last minute that would guarantee your life. However, your breathing stopped short as he placed his left palm against the spot next to your head and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear with his other hand.
"Everything's falling perfectly into place, [F/N]," he cooed, gazing down at you with adoring green irises. "I missed you, you kno-" His sentence fell short of a grunt as you effectively kneed him in the groin, ducking underneath his arm to get to a more public area.
However, he was faster. Almost immediately, your body was pulled back. An arm clamped around your torso, trapping your elbows to your sides by its embrace. Your lips parted to free yourself from the situation, but a rough gloved hand wrapped its fingers around your throat and forced your head back against his chest. You couldn't speak, let alone breathe as he held your petite body.
He chuckled as you flailed against his touch, the ghost of his breath against your exposed earlobe making goosebumps raise on your skin. His voice was lower as he spoke, almost husky.
"Naughty girl." His lips trailed from the edge of your jawline to the nape of your neck, intaking the scent he had missed so much. "Did you take away my power because you wanted to get closer to me? You're such a flirt." His grip tightened just slightly, but it made you squeak as you gasped for air with clenched eyes. "Oh, I'm sorry, does that hurt? Good." His teeth were gritted as he whispered against your ear. "Didn't you realize how much you hurt me when you decided to choose Kacchan?" The tension in his voice was released almost immediately as he began to cackle. "But it's okay, he won't get in the way anymore." His laughter was insane. "I made sure he won't bother us ever again!"
The proclamation put you on edge. You were finally able to free yourself from his grasp by swinging your leg and sweeping the villain off his feet, straddling his waist after his body hit the ground. Your fingers gripped his shoulders and pulled the boy up, a mixture of anger and tears on your face.
"What did you do to Bakugo?!" Your yell was met with a sinister grin. "Tell me!"
Midoriya's smile widened, revealing his sharp canines as his body brightened with his quirk. "After All for One passed away, he gave me a very special power." The boy giggled as he flipped you over, reversing the position and pinning your wrists down. "His power." The stunned expression on your face made him explode with laughter. "Don't worry~ I have no use for Kacchan's quirk, so I let him keep it. But…"
It felt as if your heart had stopped. Nothing else registered in your mind except for the evil boy's words.
"…Not before I ripped his arms from their sockets."
The tears blinded your vision and soaked the ground as they cascaded down your cheeks. You squirmed underneath his hold, violent in your attempt to escape. Oh dear, he thought, watching in amusement as you paused to take a sharp inhale before speaking again. I've run out of hands~
His lips crashed down against yours, disallowing the use of your quirk. He removed his grip from one of your wrists as his hand made its way to the side of your face, pressing you closer to him. Your newly freed hand attempted to push him away, but it was no use. Finally, his teeth captured your bottom lip as he pulled, taking your breath with him.
The world turned into a blurry mess. As Midoriya lifted his face from yours, his thumb wiped away a stray tear from your cheek. "Good night, [F/N]-chan."
"D-Did you just…" There was a strain in your voice as you attempted to speak. "Steal… my quirk…?" The heaviness of your body and eyelids gave it away upon his response.
"Go to sleep."
You forced yourself to keep your eyes open, which resulted in a series of hefty blinking. Midoriya's figure thinned out from your line of sight, morphing from a matured being to the blur of a familiar, innocently freckled face. You barely registered the gentle kiss he placed on your forehead.
"I really did miss you, [F/N]-chan."
