Hi there! It has been way too long since I posted a story on here. I lacked inspiration for such a long time, but now I've got my juices flowing! Well, now I have a short term goal (within the next 5 years) to become published. Crazy right? These characters are all my own, however I want to have ideas of what potential readers would like to see moving forward. Please give me some constructive criticism or whatever else you would like to see. The premise is the same, however I will be switching the names to TVD names just to give you all an idea of where I am going with this, so the characters may not have personalities you all are used to. That being said, welcome to, "You Are My Salvation"
Vampires.
Jealous, arrogant bastards... Monstrous things they are. Bloodthirsty, psychopathic, sexual, fiends, with a bloodlust that could rival one's necessity for oxygen. They were vicious beasts that could not be tamed…
The beginning of the vampiric lineage began with the first vampire, a failed creation— a failure that the Lord of the Underworld, Hades— wanted to never revisit. Hades was not a modest god by any stretch of the imagination, but that did not mean that he openly discussed his biggest downfall that to this day the muses sang.
Alastair was made of Hades' own creation. The First Vampire. The beginning of an undead legion. Many eons ago, the Underworld was undergoing a lack of souls in order to effectively sustain the balance of the Earth. Life and Death. This was largely due in part to Death's (the god Thanatos) untimely capture at the hands of the criminal Sisyphus which upset the natural order of the world. Upon his capture, there was no death on the mortal plane. Not even a whisper. The mortals then believed that their gods were granting them the gifts of immortality. There was no death for 50 years, and during that time, humans stopped praying to their once great gods, and began seeing themselves equal to.
This did not sit well with the weakening Gods of Olympus. It rightly pissed them off. The now immortal humans, were now becoming a problem- some as so bold as to attempt to bridge the very gates of Olympus.
They had had enough.
Both Zeus and Ares trekked down to the Underworld in effort to disclose their concerns (anger) with Hades. Hades had noticed the steady decline of mortal souls that were no longer being escorted by his guide, Charon. He, with the help of both Zeus and Areas had steadily created the perfect killing machine- the First vampire, Alastair. Born from death, the vampire was cold and soulless, a single bite from this being would release the soul of the human on Death's list. This creation was done in secret so that the mortals never became wise to their plan. Ares demanded the vampire have reflexes like that of a warrior- but heightened, the strength just shy of a god's, have the same bloodlust as he, as he was deprived of blood on the battlefield. Zeus wanted the being to have the powers of suggestion in order to lure his victims to the slaughter. To this, Hades agreed to their terms, and found the corpse of the most despicable warrior in Tartarus was reanimated and thus, the first vampire was released unto the world.
The slaughter was so brutal that the Earth stunk of Death, and Alastair, the harbinger. The three gods did believe his bite to be lethal, however they did not account for his bite to be venomous and carry the dark magic used to create him to be transferred to another body on the brink of death by his choosing. Alastair was also created of Zeus, which made him crave the need of a companion- to which he created his first mate- Narcissa. Together they roamed the earthly plane with bodies trailing behind them- Thanatos' list be damned.
That was, until the mortal uprising.
During the era where the Gods were being pushed aside- forgotten, there were those (women) who stuck true to their Goddess, the Goddess of Magic herself, Hecate. The humans were being slaughtered left and right, and the vampires were slowly taking over, until one night when they crossed Hecate's devout of Death incarnate trailed from village to village warning those to leave their homes or die. The Sororibus ex Hyacintho Luna Covina (Sisters of the Blue Moon Coven) fought within every inch of their souls- refusing to submit to this atrocity.
The eve before the arrival of Alastair and Narcissa, a pious follower of Hecate pleaded with the Goddess for survival. Needless to say, the Goddess was furious when she was asked to answer this prayer. No, she was not angry at her followers, she was angered by the trio of Gods who felt the need to bypass her authority in order to release a killing machine- nay- a killing army. Though she could not undo what the other Gods created, she would use her own celestial magic to answer her people. When she graced her temple, standing before the Priestess, Imogen in all of her glory, she gave the human woman a choice: end her life and save her coven or save herself. Thinking the priestess would choose herself, she was ready to smite her for summoning her to Earth.
Imogen, chose her coven. The goddess couldn't have been any more surprised than she was. Humans were selfish, stupid beings, driven by their own desires, yet there was this priestess willing to risk it all for the lives of others- her people. And with that, Imogen impaled herself in the heart with a wooden stake and dropped at the Goddess' feet. It was then Hecate granted them protection. She bestowed upon Imogen's coven the magic powers of the that consisted of an ultimate selfless act of sacrifice for the ability to ensure the survival of the human race. Upon the sacrifice of the First Witch, Imogen, to the Goddess, Hecate, were they able to become equal to those who terrorized them.
Witches were created from nature. Life where there was death. Living amongst the dead. Though the vampires were created of the Gods' making, their little magics were linked in dark magic- magic privy only to the Underworld. Hecate was a goddess that balanced between both the living and the dead dimensions, which allowed her to indirectly destroy the creations of Hades, Ares, and Zeus. So she preserved the soul of Imogen and would protect it in an Earthbound body to be transferred upon generations and generations to those worthy. The soul would never see the Underworld, as it will never fully die, but it will be protected for as long as it shall live. Imogen's soul will be passed along the line of future witches, ones that were born deceased. Hecate will implant the soul, and the child should live once more. Should the soul die permanently, magic would die and the vampires would rule once more.
Witches were gifted with abilities rooted in nature, and would grow into other specialties. However, for the time being, they were granted the power to dispose of the vampires. Because they were born in the Underworld, they were never exposed to sunlight. Elements like fire and the sun itself, would sear their skin and ultimately reduce them to ash. A stake to the dead heart, in mimicry of the stake Imogen used to stab herself. A curse of a backlash from bloodlust and each innocent that was murdered, would leave them in a stupefied state. And decapitation because Hecate was always fond of those.
The witches' magic was carried from generation to generation. As long as there were vampires, there were witches. Protect the soul… protect humanity.
