"Brookie, do you have to go to Orange County?" Savannah pleaded, "You should stay here and live with me," Savannah stepped forward to give Brooklyn the friendship bracelets they both stayed up all night making. Brooklyn hugged Savannah, "Oh Savvy... I'm going to miss you so much! I don't even know how I'll survive!" She squeaked out dramatically, tears brimming on the edge of her eyes.
"We're going to talk on the phone every night, right?" Said Savannah. "For sure! And don't forget, instant messaging until midnight!" Brooklyn continued, "You're gonna have to come visit me Sav, I'm probably not going to fit in... They're sending me to some elitist school called 'The Orange County Day School', they actually had to put the DAY in there. Like it's not obvious that school is during the day!" Before Savvanah could think of saying anything else, Brooklyn continued her venting "It sucks ass because literally it shortens to 'O.C.D.'... O.C.D.!!" Brooklyn sighed in distress, Savannah placing a supportive hand on her shoulder and a gentle smile.
Yet before they could share any other last words, a voice rang through the makeshift attic bedroom she stayed in. "Brooklyn, it's time to go!" Brooklyn's mother called out from down the stairs. Savannah reminisces on their final hug, shedding a tear as Brooklyn had to let go- running down the stairs in compliance.
Savannah sighed, leaning her body closer against the window sill. Her parents snapped her out of her vision, calling to her from downstairs. As she opened the door, the smell of frying bacon and freshly toasted bread immediately whipped her face: Dad was cooking breakfast again. Her mom was waiting for her at the pit of the stairs, crimson hair glowing as the early dawn sun danced through the windows, her emerald eyes piercing into Savannah as if she was already scolding her. 'Something serious must have happened, prepare yourself for a lecture, Sav.'
Thus begins her lazy morning trudge down the stairs, old rotting wooden planks creaking and groaning with every step.
