Sapphire stretched her back, feeling a little tired from the non-stop battles. Championship battles were usually rare during the League season, but it seemed like every talented Trainer in Hoenn was here to challenge her.

The Association President waved to her from his box overlooking the battlefield. She sent back a thumbs up, showing him she was ready for the next battle. Sapphire squared her shoulders and took out Toro's Pokeball. The Blaze Pokemon had sat out the last two battles, and was now ready to stretch her legs.

'Now here we have our next challenger, who... has refused to give her name! Nevertheless, it's our Champion, SAPPHIRE BIRCH, versus... the Trainer from Littleroot!'

Sapphire raised her eyebrows, interested in her newest challenger. Her dad usually notified her of any strong Trainers coming from her hometown. She glanced at Ruby, who was sitting in the bleachers to her right, but he also shrugged. Sapphire turned towards the Challenger's side, letting Toro out. Her Blaziken stepped forward and let out a cry, eagerly waiting.

The doors on the opposite end slid open, revealing a small figure. She entered the spotlight, and her face appeared on the large screens. However, the girl was wearing a hooded green cloak, and Sapphire's sharp eyes only caught strands of dark brown hair.

The President finished announcing the rules, and started the battle.

'Let the battle for the Hoenn Championship BEGIN!'

Sapphire nodded to her starter, "Let's go, Toro!"

The Blaziken jumped into a battle stance as the challenger released her Pokemon. "Go, Chandelure!"

Sapphire was surprised to see a Unova-native Pokemon, especially with a girl from Littleroot, Hoenn. And not only did Toro have an unfortunate type disadvantage, there was a high chance that the Chandelure had the Flash Fire ability, meaning barely any of Toro's attacks would affect it. She knew this, because-

The girl calls out her first move. "Shadow Ball."

Toro just barely dodged the attack, and squawked to get her Trainer's attention. Sapphire shook herself out of her thoughts, This day has been too long...

She frowned and thought quickly, "Just keep dodging, Toro!"

The Chandelure was sending a barrage of Shadow Balls, but Toro was fast enough that none of them landed a hit. The girl stomped her foot, and commanded, "Chandelure, Flame Burst!"

Toro was unable to dodge the Fire move, but while it didn't do much damage, the power of the move impressed Sapphire. She knew she had to step up and show this challenger a battle worthy of a Champion. "Focus Energy, then wait for it."

The Blaziken stopped still to take a deep breath, and the challenger took the moment to launch more Shadow Balls. Sapphire grinned, and yelled, "Now! Mirror Move!"

The Chandelure had no chance, and fell to the ground. The girl cried out, "No, no, get up!"

The Luring Pokemon had low HP left, but still had a determined look on its face. "Yes! Now, Confuse Ray!"

The move hit, and Sapphire's Blaziken was left stumbling around the battlefield. The challenger cheered, "Do it, Chandelure, Pain Split! Then Hex her!"

"Gah, Toro, snap out of it!"

Sapphire had to give it to the girl, that was a clever combo. And lucky for her they all hit. Sapphire grit her teeth. She hadn't wanted to use this move initially, but now, "It's time, Toro. Brave Bird!"

The girl also called out a command, "Memento."

Toro hit the Chandelure straight on, and the Unovan Pokemon fainted - but not before it left the Blaziken with a parting gift. Memento lowered Toro's Attack and Special Attack, and the recoil from Brave Bird had left Toro barely standing. As the girl recalled her fainted Pokemon, Sapphire also called Toro back. "Take a break, girl." She looked across the field, trying to get a glimpse of the challenger.

Hood still on, the girl had kissed her Pokeball before switching them out. The Association President also took this chance to focus the screens on the girl again. 'The Trainer from Littleroot is down one Pokemon, and has forced Sapphire to switch out her Blaziken! Just who is this girl?'

The girl then faced Sapphire, and called, "You're probably wondering who I am, right?"

When Sapphire didn't say anything, the girl continued, "If you're as great a battler as they say, then I'll reveal myself."

Sapphire scoffed, "You might as well that hood off now, cos I always give it my all. Kiru!"

She sent out her Gallade, and noticed with some confusion that the girl stomped her foot again. "I was hoping to save you for later, but... Go, Kirlia!"

The two Pokemon sized each other up, and started racing towards each other. For an under-evolved Pokemon, the Kirlia was able to keep up with the Gallade's blows. "Kirlia, Misty Terrain, then Disarming Voice on repeat!"

Sapphire retaliated, "Kiru, you too, Psycho Cut!"

Something about the girl was not adding up... the green hood, the stomping, a Chandelure, and now a Kirlia that fought like it was a performance...

Sapphire's eyes widened, and she whirled around to see her husband. Ruby was watching the girl battle with the same confusion as she was, and she knew he had realized the same thing. He noticed her staring and mimed taking a hood off. Sapphire understood, and called over the sounds of the Pokemon fighting, "Hey! So how about you tell me your name now?"

The girl didn't answer the question, and instead said. "You know, everyone has always told me to evolve Kirlia, that it would be so much more powerful then.

"But I don't think that's true. My Kirlia is strong no matter what! Future Sight!"

The girl reached into the folds of her cloak. "And luckily, I had this to help me train. "

The item in her hand was a Pokedex.

A Hoenn Pokedex.

Sapphire's heart stopped. There were three children in the world that had that device. And she knew all of them very well. Two of them, in fact, were sitting in the stands near their father.

"Kirlia, Draining Kiss!" The move was super-effective, and Kiru was pushed back to Sapphire.

The girl didn't let up, "Charm, then Psychic."

Her combos seemed to be personalized for taking down a Gallade, and with Sapphire distracted, Kiru was no match. He landed at Sapphire's feet with a thump. As the dust cleared, the screen showed the challenger's Kirlia posing in the center of the battlefield. It panned to the girl. "I won't lose to you. Not ever!"

She threw off her hood, and dark brown hair cascaded down her back. Purple eyes stared determinedly at the crowd as they started to cheer, finally seeing the face of the mystery contender.

"Amethyst."

Sapphire felt weak.

The world echoed around her. She barely heard Ruby shouting to her, or maybe to Amethyst, she wasn't sure of anything anymore. All Sapphire could do was stare at her youngest child.

3 years ago, Amethyst had left Hoenn, demanding she be able to go on her own journey. Since then, Sapphire hadn't seen her in person, only speaking to her briefly over the phone every few months.

And now, she was here in Ever Grande City, 14 years old and challenging her for the Champion Title.

'And the Trainer from Littleroot has revealed herself! ...Oh, what's that?

This just in, folks. The Challenger is named AMETHYST SENRI, and is none other than... the Champion's daughter!'

yes I will continue this I've already started - but lets see how that goes
