It was no secret that Margaery favoured her youngest son, Edward. He was the only one who seemed to take his responsibilities seriously which is why she convinced her elder son Robin to make him his hand when Robert passed away. Edward had the trademark Baratheon black hair which was cropped short. His eyes were a light honey-gold and was on the leaner side, though he was still muscular as one would expect from a young Baratheon. His responsibilities as hand had aged him, but Margaery knew there was no one better suited for the task than Edward. Currently they were discussing Robin's nameday celebrations which would consist of a tourney followed by a feast. Of course, her eldest son couldn't be bothered to help with any of the arrangements himself and they both assumed that he was either drinking, hunting, or whoring. Margaery knew Robin longed to prove himself on the battlefield and become a war hero like his father, but a war was something she and Edward wanted to prevent.
"Loras will be coming to represent House Tyrell, of course." Margaery said. "I doubt the Starks will travel south for the event but I assume they'll send Robin some sort of gift. What should we do about the Lannisters? It's been years since the war, we can't isolate them forever."
"There's no way Robin's going to let a Lannister set foot in King's Landing." Edward replied. He knew bringing the Lannisters back into the fold was necessary, they were one of the richest houses and despite Edward's best efforts Robin, like his father, was draining the treasury quite fast. The crown needed their support, they couldn't rely on House Tyrell forever.
Margaery sighed, "Maybe not Lord Tyrion or his sons, but what about his daughter? She could serve as a handmaiden to one of your sisters, or myself even."
"It will take some convincing, but I think I can get Robin to agree to it. Or we'll just arrange it and not tell him. We can't assign her to Rylin though, she'll eat her alive." Edward said.
Before Margaery could agree there was a knock at the door.
"Come in." Edward called.
The Master of Whisperers, Lord Corren, entered the room and bowed to both Edward and Margaery.
"What is it?" Margaery asked.
"You should check on your sister, my lord." Corren said, addressing Edward.
"Which one?" Edward asked.
"I think we both know which one," Margery said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. "I can handle it."
"No, I'll go." Edward said as he stood. Rylin, at the age of fourteen, was more troublesome than anyone could have imagined. Edward partly blamed Robin for entertaining her antics and sometimes even encouraging them, leaving Edward and their mother to rein her in. Recently she had begun lashing out physically and Edward didn't want to put his mother through that.
Margaery nodded, "We'll finish this later, then."
"I'll find you when I'm done." Edward said then looked to Corren. "Where is she?"
"Her chambers, my lord."
Edward nodded, "Have Ser Jayse meet me there, tell him to wait outside." He instructed before he left the room with a sigh.
Edward assumed she was flirting with or kissing some squire again. Though Rylin had never brought one to her chambers before, which is what concerned Edward the most. From down the hall he could hear her high pitched laughter and rolled his eyes, she could at least be discreet. He banged on the door loudly to give her warning, though he didn't know exactly what he was walking in on. He waited a few moments before he opened the door and entered the room. Edward was greeted by the sight of Ashter Blackmont on top of his sister, and was relieved to see that they were at least fully clothed. Edward cleared his throat and Ashter rolled off of Rylin with a cheeky grin. Ashter was clearly Dornish with his smooth olive skin and short dark brown hair. He had a lithe build and was of average height. He had only recently arrived at court and Edward hated him already.
"Goodday, my lord." Ashter greeted.
"Get. Out." Edward ordered.
Ashter leaned closer to Rylin and whispered something in her ear which elicited a giggle from the black haired girl. Ashter rolled off of the bed and left the room, without so much as glancing at Edward on his way out.
"What do you think you're doing?" Edward demanded. He hated acting like a father to his sister, but someone had to do it and he knew it wouldn't be Robin. Ever since Ashter arrived at court he had immediately taken an interest in Rylin, though Edward couldn't be sure who initiated their relationship.
"I think we both know what I was doing." Rylin said as she stood and smoothed out her dress. Her wavy, waist length hair was tousled and Edward wondered just how far they got before he interrupted them.
Edward sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "Where are your handmaidens? Why were you even alone with him?"
"I don't know where they are, I sent them away." Rylin said with a shrug.
"Then perhaps I should have Ser Jayse accompany you for the rest of the day." Edward said as he crossed his arms.
Rylin glared at him, "Don't."
"It's for your own protection, sister. I'd hate for anyone to take advantage of you." Edward said evenly.
"I won't listen to him." Rylin said defiantly.
Edward sighed, why couldn't Rylin just behave for once? "Do you not realise that I have seven realms to govern? Do you really think I want to waste my time hunting you down in your chambers because you're with some squire?"
"Then don't." Rylin said, annoyed. "Robin doesn't care so why do you?"
"Because someone has to be responsible. Father told me to take care of you which is exactly what I'm doing. Do you think he would want you sneaking around and having a tryst in your room? You're a princess, it's about time you started acting like one. Before long someone will catch you with your skirts up and you'll be known as a whore."
Without warning Rylin drew her hand back and slapped him, "I'm not a whore."
"Stop." Edward warned. He was unaffected by the strike. Rylin was far too thin with no muscles, her blows didn't have much strength behind them. "Unless you'd like to spend the rest of the day in your chambers."
Instead of calming her down like Edward intended, it only further provoked Rylin who shoved him, this time she put her body behind it and he took a step back to balance himself. He quickly grabbed her wrists before she could do anything else and held them in a firm grip to prevent her from striking him again. He didn't want to hurt her, she bruised easily, but her wrists were so thin that if he didn't she could easily slip out of his grasp, he had learned that last time. Rylin tried to pull her arms free but Edward maintained his grip, so she began to kick him.
"Let go!" She snapped.
"I'll let go once you stop." Edward said calmly. He knew she would eventually tire herself out so he saw no reason to call in a guard. He sighed as she continued to kick him, he really didn't have time for this. Edward quickly turned her so her back was on his chest and held her firmly against him.
"I said let go!" Rylin shouted as she tried to wriggle out of her brother's grip. She knew she couldn't call for help, the guards would help Edward and not her. Edward ignored her as she continued to struggle. After a few minutes she stilled and he could hear her breathing hard.
"Are you done?" He asked.
Rylin said nothing so Edward waited until her breathing evened out before he let go of her. She immediately stepped away from him and crossed her arms as she walked towards the window and looked at the gardens below. Edward knew she wouldn't do anything else, she'd just pout for the rest of the day. It was beyond him what to do with her, nothing seemed to work.
"Don't leave your chambers, Ser Jayse will be outside if you need anything. If you try to leave you can spend tomorrow in your chambers as well." Edward said.
Rylin turned around and glared at him, "I want to see Robin."
"You can see him tomorrow, if you behave." Edward said sternly, he knew exactly what she was trying to do and was having none of it. He hated when she acted like a petulant child. Before she could argue further he left the room where Ser Jayse was waiting for him.
"Lock the door, don't open it for an hour. She doesn't leave for the rest of the day and under no circumstances is she allowed to send a message to my brother." Edward instructed.
"Yes, my lord." Ser Jayce said.
"Thank you." Edward said then went off to find his brother. He knew he'd have to talk to Robin about this, he just hoped that Robin wasn't too drunk.
Edward found Robin in his room and was surprised to find the nineteen year old king alone. Robin greatly took after their father and many claimed he looked like a young Robert Baratheon with his shoulder length dark black hair, bright blue eyes and messy beard. He was incredibly broad shouldered and bulky due to his years of training. He was sitting at his table drinking wine and Edward could tell he had just finished with a whore as he was haphazardly dressed.
"By the Seven, you're cheery, Edward! All frowning and furrow-browed!" Robin greeted with a chuckle. "How are my nameday celebrations coming along?"
"Everything's been taken care of." Edward replied as he took a seat. "But that's not what I came here to discuss."
"What's wrong now?" Robin asked, then took another sip of wine, he wanted to be prepared to deal with whatever problem Edward was coming to him about.
"I caught Rylin alone in her chambers with Ashter." Edward replied.
Robin put his cup down annoyed, "Who in the Seven Hells is Ashter? And what was he doing with Rylin?"
"Ashter Blackmont, the new squire from Dorne." Edward answered. He should have known to specify, Robin never paid attention to who came to court. "I caught them in her bed, fully clothed, but there's no telling what they would have done if I hadn't interrupted them."
"And what do you want me to do about it?" Robin asked. "She won't listen if we tell her to stay away."
Edward thought for a moment, "No, she won't. And we can't send him away for it, she's flirted with countless squires and they're still here, the Martells might take offense to that. We could just invite him to your nameday feast, we can keep an eye on the pair of them there."
"Fine, invite him to the damn feast. But get him now, I want to have a word with him." Robin ordered.
Edward nodded and left the room, he wasn't sure how much wine Robin had before he interrupted him, but he seemed far from drunk. Maybe he'll actually put an end to it, Edward thought. They couldn't keep Rylin away from Ashter, but they could keep Ashter away from her.
Robin had grown bored and impatient by the time Ashter entered the room. Ashter bowed as Robin filled his cup from the pitcher.
"Sit down and pour yourself some wine." Robin ordered.
"Thank you, Your Grace." Ashter said as he took a seat across from Robin. He grabbed the pitcher and filled his cup as Robin watched him.
"I heard you've been spending time with my sister." Robin said as he looked Ashter up and down. "What exactly have you been doing with her?"
"Well, that all depends, Your Grace," Ashter said as he leaned back in his chair. "What have you heard?"
Robin smirked and drank from his cup, "Why don't you tell me what I've heard?"
"I guess that would be a matter of who Your Grace heard it from, I'm assuming your hand told you? I'm sure he painted some awful tale about how I tried to take advantage of her, but I like to think she took advantage of me."
"Is that so?" Robin asked.
Ashter grinned, "Well, if we're talking about the right sister I believe so. Imagine a poor young squire trying to train but his princess just has to talk to him. What else was I going to do but oblige? Then suddenly we were in her chambers and I'm the one thrown out? Hardly seems right, my king."
Robin laughed as Ashter drank some wine. Ashter flinched when the laughter ceased and Robin slammed his fist on the table. "Careful, boy. You're talking to a King," Robin threatened as he leaned in. "The only King left on this side of the world and you're talking to him about his sister. Did you fuck her?"
"No, Your Grace." Ashter replied as he sat up straight.
"Good, keep it that way or I'll cut your balls off and feed them to the dogs." Robin warned before he refilled his cup of wine. "Now, drink up, and tell me what a scrawny kid from Dorne thinks he's doing in my court."
Hello and welcome to my SYOC. This is going to be AU (obviously). In this story Ned never warned Cersei of his intentions to tell Robert the truth about her affair with Jaime. Instead he went straight to Robert. Robert got his revenge by having Cersei, Jaime, and their children killed. A war raged between the Lannisters and the Baratheons, which the Baratheons won by a landslide due to the support of their allies.
Below I'm going to list the current situations of the three main Great Houses that would be greatly affected by this chain of events. I'll also be listing the available character slots in each house, so ask if you'd like to submit a character for them. Please note, I will also be accepting characters from other houses as well as minor characters (handmaidens, king's guards, etc). Someone please submit for House Martell, and Bolton, they will have large parts in the story. When making your character please keep in mind that the small council will also need to be filled. I'm not going to post the entire character form on my profile, instead I'll be posting a smaller application form, which I'll use to get a feel for whether or not I want to accept your character into the story, if accepted I'll send you the actual form. Form is on my profile.
Also, I have made Discord channel for this story, that way creators of characters for each house can plan out their characters together to establish sibling relationships without me being a messenger and we can just generally chat about the story, Game of Thrones, and whatever else crosses our minds. If I approve your character application form I'll send you the discord link.
