It was December,

coldness seeps into her veins.

Pink noses and red cheeks,

without a penny to their names.

Threadbare clothing and sparkling eyes,

Hot chocolate sipped by the dying firelight.

Lingering touches and soft words;

it feels impossible that they made it this far.

As ice crowds the ground, and flowers wither away

Time will choose to move on,

dragging it's fingertips down their story,

distorting and creasing the folds of the patchwork.

But it is too early to see clearly,

And the lines have always been blurred.

She looks up from underneath her eyelashes,

(Music in her ears and stars in her smile)

"We are infinite, darling"

She whispers

As he kisses her forehead

It was April,

But it feels like years have passed.

She feels trapped in their new, pocket-marked apartment

And he feels trapped by her gaze.

Love has not vanished,

But the music has lost its appeal.

It is no longer enough to sleep in each other arms.

Now, she wants a soft, safe bed.

It is a month full of harsh words and screaming silences.

As she wipes her tears on her sleeves,

they dance around each other,

trying to piece together the broken shards.

They grasp without gloves,

And the sharpness cuts the words right out of their mouth.

The i love you(s) have melted away with the snow,

and the coldness has come with the warm spring breeze.

Blood drips from the glass and into her dreams.

Brittle laughs and clenched teeth,

What is there to say?

He sighs.

She cries,

I can't go on this way.

It was July,

And she closes her eyes, a smile curling onto her lips.

She soaks up the sun and dark spots twirl under her eyelids.

She opens them and laughs,

A lilting, unrestrained sound

That slices through the heavy air.

She runs a hand through her damp hair,

wipes away the sweat that beads on her forehead,

and feels a burning gaze on her neck.

Her eyes widen and she starts to frantically gather her things,

but he stops her with a gentle smile.

"I miss you,"

He tells her

"But you were wrong,"

She's silent, big brown eyes hesitant.

"We were never meant to be infinite

Just infinitely different."
