(A/N: Wow, this turned out way longer than expected. O_O This is my first collaborated story, so hopefully you'll all enjoy it!)
Wingmen Ch. 1
ReeReeWithAngst: Wasabi, Fred
Me: Venus, Honey Lemon, GoGo, Hiro, Baymax
"Just talk to him, he's a big softie." Fred insisted.
"I... I can't," Venus fearfully turned away, "What if he thinks I'm... I'm a freak?"
Fred literally burst into laughter, "Oh, silly little Venus," He draped an arm around her shoulder, as a brotherly gesture, "there is no one Wasabi thinks is a freak more than me. You're nothing like me, so you'll be fine."
"You sure about that, Fred?" She turned to him.
"So after classes, Gogo and I are going to have a little..." Honey Lemon was talking with Wasabi, but stopped when she noticed something: Fred, the guy she just so happens to have a crush on, with his arm around a short, tiny girl with ivory skin, wild black hair accented with green streaks, and a Goth/punk outfit.
Wasabi noticed them too and yelped, hiding his face with his hand.
"Oh gosh it's her Honey Lemon what do I do?!"
Fred nodded, retracting his arm.
"You two have hearts of gold, you were made for each other. He's over there, with Carmen, go talk to him." He blushed when he said Carmen.
Honey couldn't help but giggle at her friend. "Wasabi, relax! Just talk to her. She looks like a sweet girl."
"Well, um..." Venus was about to go when she noticed Fred blushing when he mentioned the blonde's name. She smirked at her childhood friend. "Was that a blush I just saw?"
"What?" Fred asked defensively.
"What? No, no blush. I'm not blushing. It's not like she's sunshine and I'm the dirt it shines upon, hopeful that something will grow between us, a perennial flower representing our bright future, and yet, there is nothing." Fred was super dramatic and dabbled in poetry.
"I don't relax, Honey Lemon, I plan. And I don't have a plan to talk to Catherine, so I can't talk to her."
"Is she with Fred? Like not together, he would've said something, but are they hanging out? I didn't know he knew her."Wasabi was definitely not blushing. Totally. Totally not blushing.
Venus giggled in her hand. "Uh huh. It seems we're in the same boat, unable to talk to our crushes."
Honey smiled at Wasabi. "Why don't you ask her yourself? I know you two will definitely hit it off! You'd be so cute together!"
"Sure, I'll ask her myself when you finally tell Fred that you like him. We've been friends with him since the start of college. I haven't even formally met Catherine. We're in different boats, Honey Lemon."
"I suppose we are. She's so lovely, Venus. She's such an angel. She just does things to make people happy, like it's that easy. I'd love to make her smile the way she makes other people smile." Fred gushed about Honey Lemon endlessly.
Honey felt nervous when he brought up her feelings for Fred. "Wha-what? Me, like Fred? I don't know what you're talking about." She nervously adjusted her pink eyeglasses.
Venus smiled; that was really sweet. She wanted Fred to be happy, and knows that with Carmen, he certainly will be. "Okay. Um, if you talk to Carmen, I'll talk to Wesley. Deal?"
"You totally like Fred. Oh, they're walking toward us. Oh gosh, oh gosh, I'm going to pass out..."
Fred felt like he was going to pass out.
"Deal. Anything to get you to live your dreams, Venus. You are named after the roman goddess of love after all. And I'm named after three other Frederick's who managed to talk to their crushes. I can do this. We can do this..." He was rambling and stalling.
"It's okay, Wasabi; just be cool," Honey smiled nervously, "Just be cool."
Venus and Fred walk up to Wasabi and Honey Lemon, all four terribly nervous. Venus breathes deeply, as she timidly plays with one of her green streaks. "Uh... h-hi, Wesley," She stammered, looking up at Wasabi, as he towered over her. "Um, wh-what's uh, going on?" She mentally kicked herself for the lame question.
"Um, Fred?" Honey squeezed her hands together. "I uh... I'd like to ask you something."
Wasabi was momentarily shook that she knew his name and then remembered they were in the same class, which coincidentally was how he knew her name.
"Nothing much, Catherine... Uh, I didn't know that you knew Fred." He tried to lean on a wall and fell over, barely catching himself.
Fred's eyes grew wide. Honey Lemon's perfume (or was that body lotion? He didn't know things) smelled so nice.
"Hey, friend! My friend, are those new glasses? They look, they're just, wow that pink is really pink." He was making a fool of himself, lost in her eyes.
Venus hastily steps closer in alarm, ready to help him up. "Uh, well um, we went to the same elementary school; Though we went to different high schools, since he had to attend one more prestigious."
Honey giggled timidly, her cheeks pink. "These are the same glasses I've worn since my high school days."
Wasabi caught himself, though they were very close now.
"That's really cool. Fred's a good guy." He was sweating.
"They're nice. On you especially but um, I'm sure they'd be nice on anyone... You're lovely. I mean they're lovely. The glasses. You had something you wanted to say?" He could be so poetic, when he wasn't around her. Now he was awkward.
Venus blushed deeply when she realized how close they were. "Y-yeah; he was um, m-my first friend."
Honey blushed deeper, if that was possible. "Th-thanks, Freddie. Um, I was wondering... maybe we can uh, h-have lunch at Noodleburger sometime? Um, j-just us two?"
"I'm sorry we haven't hung out more," Wasabi said, "Any friend of Fred is a friend of mine."
Fred just about died.
"I would love that! I really like Noodleburger and I like spending time with you, as well. That would be good. That would be nice. Sorry, I'm so awkward... I don't know what's wrong with me. I would really like to eat lunch with you."
Venus smiled shyly. "It's okay. Th-thanks. But um, m-maybe we can?" Here goes nothing. "Um... I, I know of this really great taco place, in the mall's food court. Um, y-you like tacos?"
Honey giggled, finding Fred's awkwardness adorable. "It's okay, Fred; I uh, I'm really looking forward to it. This Saturday?"
"That sounds fantastic," Wasabi said, surprised, "I love tacos."
Fred kind of bowed, mentally slapping himself for his stupidity.
"Saturday it is, it's a date," he squeaked.
Venus smiled shyly. "C-cool. Um, maybe we can um, go this Saturday?"
Honey stifled giggles at him; he was so cute. One reason why she liked him. "It's a date."
They hear the bell ring, indicating the beginning of the first classes was drawing near.
"Oh, we'd better get to our first classes," Venus glanced upward, and held the straps of her black cat face backpack, "We all can talk more at lunch!"
"Yep," Honey nodded, "See you at lunch, Freddie!"
Wasabi couldn't stop thinking about her. He was distracted and disorganized during class, which al his friends noticed. He sent Honey Lemon a text in between classes, not able to wait until lunch for advice.
"What do I wear on a date?"
Fred was full of nervous energy. Since he didn't actually attend SFIT he worked on his online English classes and debated writing Honey Lemon a poem before their Saturday date. He had a line or two jotted down.
"I could write a thousand lines,
On beauty and on lovers,
But I merely need to see her,
And the poem's already written,
Because she moves like metaphor,
And with each line this author,
This poet- he is smitten."
Honey saw the text, and discretely texted back: "You're going to the mall's food court, right? I wouldn't wear anything fancy. Just be yourself; she does like you for you. ;)"
As Venus sat through her botany class, in which she's normally an ace, she couldn't stop thinking about Wasabi. She felt eternally grateful to Fred for helping her finally talk to Wasabi; and they even have a date! While the lecture drolled on, she absently wrote "Mrs. Ginger" in her notebook. Though she did wonder: What was she going to wear for their date? She couldn't go fancy, considering they were going to the mall, but not too casual either.
Wasabi decided that he would wear a new sweater he'd recently gotten. He was nervous when he headed to lunch.
Fred stuffed the poem in his pocket and headed for the cafeteria, meeting up with Fred.
"Dude," Fred said quietly, not noticing that the poem had fallen out of his pocket, "we have dates Saturday."
"Yeah, it's unreal..." Wasabi muttered, stressing out.
Honey was walking towards the lunch hall when she saw a folded-up piece of paper on the floor. She picked it up, hoping to return it to its owner, but when she unfolded it, her heart skipped a beat. It was a poem! She read it over, and smiled at how beautiful it was, but when she saw Fred's name signed at the bottom, her heart fluttered. Fred wrote this, for her? That was so sweet! She'll have to thank him for it at lunch, while returning it to him.
Meanwhile, Venus was heading for the lunch hall as well, her backpack disorganized from her rushing. Her botany notebook was haphazardly sticking out, though she didn't notice. After getting her lunch (cheeseburger sided with French fries and honey mustard dipping sauce), she sat next to Wasabi, though kept a distance comfortable for both of them, at one of the booth tables. "H-hi," She timidly greeted him. Her notebook fell on the floor, though she didn't notice which one it was, or where it opened. "Oh, I'll get that later." She started eating her burger.
Wasabi scooped up her notebook, noticing "Mrs. Ginger" and, for one second, wondering what Catherine knew about his mom, before it all crashed down on him and he realized. He closed the book , face burning, and returned it to her.
"Saturday is going to be good," Wasabi muttered.
"Carmen! Hey, been a long time, haha," Fred couldn't help blushing in her presence.
"Oh! Thanks," Venus quickly wiped crumbs off her hands, and put it back in her bag, praying that he didn't see what she had written in it. "So um, I, I'm really looking forward to this Saturday," She said, then had another bite of her burger.
Honey smiled at Fred, as she slid in next to him. "Hey, Fred. I uh, I found this on the floor." She gave him the paper. "It's so beautiful! I love it!"
"Me too. It'll be nice to get to know you more," Wasabi said quickly.
Fred looked mortified, not even registering the compliment.
"I'm so sorry. Now you must think I'm a creep writing creepy love poetry..."
Venus shyly continued eating, not saying anything else. Judging by his nervousness, she concluded to herself that he saw what she wrote. Feeling incredibly embarrassed, she let her hair hang over her blushing face.
"No, Freddie, it's not creepy!" Honey insisted. "It's beautiful!" She hugged him from the side. "Did you write it about me? That's so sweet!"
Fred continued to blush. More so when she hugged him.
"I did write it about you. I could uh, do better. I've written better stuff... I'm sorry that this one was your introduction to my poetry..." He was blushing like mad as she hugged him, trying to act like the poem was no big deal.
"I like your hair," Wasabi commented, not eating because of stress.
"No, it's perfect, Freddie! No one's ever done something like this for me before." Honey read the poem again, feeling light tears in her peridot green eyes, "I love it so much."
Venus peeked out at Wasabi from behind her thick, black locks. "Oh, th-thanks," She smiled shyly, "Green's one of my favorite colors. I uh, I started dying it when I was 12 years old." She giggled at one memory. "My mom had to convince my dad to let me have it done." Her smile faltered. "Though my older brother calls me "snot locks" a lot since then."
"Your older brother sounds like a jerk," Wasabi said, leaning back and thinking about his own brothers, "my older brother has always called me neat freak. Or just freak for short. But my friends call me Wasabi and I like that better."
"You can keep it then, if it makes you happy." Fred tried to catch Venus's attention, tried to mouth, 'I made her happy!'
"It's okay; he's been a bully since I was born." Venus started eating her fries with honey mustard after finishing her burger. She briefly smiled at Fred, glad that he and Honey are hitting it off, and turned back to Wasabi. "I'm sorry your brother is like that. There's nothing wrong with liking things neat and tidy." She couldn't help but smirk. "Where'd you get the nickname "Wasabi"?"
Honey briefly joined the conversation to answer her question. "He was eating sushi one time, and spilled the wasabi on his shirt."
"Ohh," She nodded, "I see."
"Though I find the nickname ironic; even though the paste is super spicy, Wasabi here is super sweet!" Honey playfully tussled Wasabi's dreadlocks, and Venus giggled.
Wasabi chuckled and blushed.
"Don't touch my hair," he mumbled, but he didn't really care, and smiled gratefully at Honey Lemon.
Fred was quiet as he ate, but there was this blissful smile on his face as he took it all in. There was just something perfect going on.
Venus giggled, and continued eating. "Fred had given me the nickname "Venus" after the Roman God, after I wrote a report during our middle school years."
"That's so cute!" Honey gushed. "It suits you perfectly!"
Venus blushed red. "Oh, uh, th-thanks," She giggled bashfully, as she ate, and sipped her soda.
"Roman goddess," Fred commented absentmindedly.
"I still remember the report. Venus is crazy smart. Should've called her Minerva."
"Right, Roman Goddess," She nodded, and giggled, "Thanks, Fred. Though um, I think I like Venus better."
"What's your major, Venus?" Honey asked her.
"It's botany; I've loved nature and plants for as long as I can remember. I have my own section in the lab here, and everything; I made these seeds that grow candy instead of flowers, or vegetables. Like Willy Wonka! I know Fred's seen them once or twice."
"They're so cool," Fred gushed, before giving Wasabi a look.
"Wasabi you'd love them. Venus, you should show him some time!" He was still playing wingman, momentarily forgetting about his own crush and his debilitating anxiety as he tries to make her life a little brighter.
"Oh, yeah! Thanks, Fred!" Venus then turned to Wasabi. "Um, m-maybe after classes are out today, I uh, I can show you my work? I can text my dad to tell him I'll be late."
"Ooh, I'd love to see too!" Honey exclaimed. "But another time; you two have this time to yourselves."
"Thanks, Carmen," Venus smiled timidly, "Or uh, do you have a nickname too?"
"I do! Fred dubbed me "Honey Lemon"."
"Oh, I see; um, i-it suits you."
"Thanks!"
Fred blushed from the corner not saying anything.
"You probably have plans after school with GoGo so I'll uh... I'll see you Saturday. For Noodleburger." For our date, he thought.
Wasabi nodded.
"I could show you what I've been working on too. If you wanted."
"Yeah," Honey nodded, "Me and GoGo will be having a little shopping spree at the mall later. But yeah! I'll see you Saturday, Freddie! Can't wait!"
"Sounds good," Venus nodded, after she finished her fries, "I'd love to see your work."
"Should we dress casually?" Fred asked.
"For Noodleburger."
Wasabi blushed and beamed, feeling a little proud.
Honey nodded in response. "Yeah; that'd be a good idea."
Venus smiled, her cheeks pink, as she sipped her soda. She was really looking forward to hanging out with Wasabi later; the end of the school day couldn't come soon enough.
Soon, it did come. As Fred and Honey Lemon headed out together, Venus followed Wasabi to the "Ito Ishioka Robotics Lab", where his project is at. As they walked through the lab, she admired other inventions in the room.
Wasabi pointed out other inventions as they walked, before they got to his.
"Here they are," he said proudly, holding her back from crossing the line and making his lasers super visible.
Fred was too nervous to talk as he walked Honey Lemon out so he just jittered in silence, stealing glances at his crush.
Venus smiled widely. "Lasers? Wow! That's amazing! You could make real light sabers with this technology!" She had a look from the other side. "These are so cool!"
Honey smiled at Fred, as they walked out of the campus together. "Thanks for walking me out, Fred."
Wasabi laughed.
"I've thought about it. My little brother Khary and I used to play out our Jedi dreams. I haven't seen him in a while... Let's go see your candy seeds."
"You're welcome. I like having this time with you," Fred said quietly.
"And I you," Honey nodded with a kind smile.
They see GoGo hop on her motorcycle, ready to go. "You ready, Honey Lemon?" She called out.
"Yep!" Honey glanced at Fred. "See you Saturday, Freddie!" She sat behind GoGo, plopping a pink helmet on her head, and they zoomed away.
"Yep," Venus nodded, "You're going to love it." She led Wasabi to the botany lab, which resembled a huge greenhouse, and scanned her SFIT ID to unlock the door. She grabbed and pulled on her black lab coat, as they walked inside. There are all different kinds of plants in the lab, some even moving on their own! "Okay, here's my station." They stopped at her place in the building. The plants in her pots are either growing, or made entirely out of different kinds of candy. Peppermints, gummies, candy canes, licorice, etc. "I made a solution that I inject in an ordinary plant seed, so when it grows with water, soil, and sunshine, it grows candy!"
"Bye, Carmen!" He called after her, feeling very, very small. Saturday was going to be great if he wasn't dead before it.
"That's incredible. You're so talented," Wasabi praised.
Venus blushed deeply, with a shy smile. "Aww, thanks. It took months to get it just right, even with my brother Jack sabotaging it at times for a joke, but it was worth the wait." She grabbed one of the bags of seeds from a few boxes, labeled with the candy they would grow. The bag she grabbed at random contained seeds for a plant growing pink and red gummy hearts. "Would you like a bag? It's on the house; just care for it like you would for any other house plant."
Wasabi blushed and shook his head.
"I don't know if I'm can, I'm sorry... I don't want to disappoint you, Venus. It's an ordeal as it is keeping myself alive." He was sheepish, scared that if he took the seeds he'd kill the plant and she'd hate him forever.
"Oh, um, o-okay," She nodded, and put the bag back in its proper box, "I understand. But um, I'm glad you were able to see my work. I'm really proud of it." She watered a small plant with tiny, sour gummy worms growing on it. "And I'm glad I got to see your lasers; they're amazing."
"I'm really sorry. Your work is incredible I just don't have the green thumb you do. I would be blessed to have half the talent as you do, or to give even a sliver of what you give back to the world. You should be proud of your work. I'm proud to know you."
Venus' smile grew. "It's okay, I understand. And thanks so much; you're really sweet." She hugged him, with her head laid on his chest. "I'm proud to know you too. Your work is amazing; I wish I could do it."
"I guess the world needs one of both of us," Wasabi said, wrapping his arms around her.
Fred paced his room, freaking out. He texted Venus that when she was done making out with Wasabi they needed to discuss their date outfits. Venus was always pulled together and Fred needed help. Maybe, if he was lucky, she would also be in the market for advice, and then they could help each other.
While sitting on the bed of her Gothic bedroom, she texted back, agreeing to help him out, and walked downstairs. "Hey, Dad? Can you drive me to Fred's place? I need to help him with something."
Robert Woods, her father, looked up when she walked over. "Yeah, sure. Let me grab my keys."
They drove to the huge mansion, and she was let inside by Heathcliff, Fred's family butler. She walked along the long hallways, and knocked on the bedroom doors. "Hello, Fred?"
"I don't have anything to wear," Fred explained, in place if greeting her.
Venus giggled at that. "Hello to you too," She joked, and walked in, "Okay, let's see what you've got here." He led her to his large closet, and she started filing through his clothes, which were disorganized. "Hmm... oh, I know! How about this..." She took out a plain black v-neck t-shirt, and let him hold it. "With... these." She gave him a pair of dark denim jeans. "Not too fancy, yet not too casual."
"Do you think it's too dark for me? Carmen's like a rainbow, y'know. All color and hope. Maybe I should have a jacket or something? To add a little color. Or maybe one of my beanies... Not this one, I always wear this one..."
"Hmm... yeah, you've got a good point there. Here, let's do this." Venus put the t-shirt back, and took out a blue one, lighter in color. "There, that's better. I bet a plaid shirt will look nice." She went back to his closet, and found a button-up shirt that was blue and orange plaid with hints of yellow. "Here we go! Now, what beanies do you have?"
Fred was beaming at her suggestions.
"You're so good at this, V." Even though he'd given her her nickname, he still shortened it sometimes. He got down his beanie box and showed her the different kaiju themed hats. He had some, as well, that were just animal themes.
Venus smiled shyly. "Thanks, buddy." She looked through the box, holding each hat up by the outfit she picked for him. "Hmm... this orange kaiju beanie ought to look good."
"It's perfect. What about you? What are you wearing for your date with Wasabi?"
"Um... I, I really don't know yet," Venus admitted, tucking her hair behind her ear, "I have so many choices, yet I just can't pick."
"Maybe I can help? Do you have pics of your picks?" He giggled at his own wordplay.
Venus giggled with him. "I do have some, since I'm thinking of starting a Goth fashion blog." She showed him some pictures of her nice, yet casual clothes on her phone. The first pic showed a white dress with a black collar, and printed with black bats and polka dots (search "Iron Fist x Ash Costello Bat Royalty Nocturnal Dress"). The second featured a black sleeveless dress that would reach her knees, printed with pink Hawaiian flowers ("Midnight Black Molokini Hawaiian Dress"). She giggled again. "Yeah, I've got a lot here." The third photo had a black tie-sleeve dress with a ruffled skirt, and little skulls printed all over ("Skull Dot Ruffle Hem Dress Hot Topic"). "This'll be the last pic I show, unless we need more ideas." The last one showed a blue, short-sleeved leopard print dress ("Tripp NYC Pop Tart Dress").
"I really like the dress with the flowers. I bet Wasabi is wearing a sweater, maybe a coat. Maybe if you get cold in Chipotle he'll notice and he'll give you his coat." Fred squealed, "that would be adorable." He was probably the biggest Vesabi shipper that there was.
"Hey, if you need anything on Saturday like if something goes wrong or if you're not comfortable, let me know. I will be there for you." His date didn't matter if his friend wasn't comfortable or safe. She was one of his oldest friends, and even though he trusted Wasabi wholeheartedly, if something was up he would side with Venus.
Venus giggled at his enthusiasm. "Thanks, Fred. You're a great friend; and I'll do the same for you." They shared a friendly, brother/sister hug. "Thanks for helping me."
"I'm always happy to help." He was giddy.
"I wouldn't have this opportunity to go on a date with Carmen if it weren't for you." Her name felt sweet on his lips. He liked the nickname he'd given her, sweet and peaceful and warm just like her, but he cherished the opportunities he got to address her by her name and, in secret, imagined Carmen Lopez becoming Carmen Frederickson. He was blushing hard now.
Venus smiled. "It's my pleasure, Fred. I know your date's going to be great." She lightly giggled at the accidental rhyme, and at how deeply he was blushing. "You'll both have a wonderful time together. You're an awesome guy, and Carmen seems very sweet; I know it'll be a big success." Her smile then faltered. "Though I'm pretty nervous about my date." She squeezed her hands together.
"Wasabi definitely really likes you. I've never seen him look at anyone the way he looked at you the other day. That's love, Venus. You gave him peace of mind for a bit. Don't worry about your date. I wonder if they're as stressed as we are."
Wasabi was totally stressed. This was like his second first date ever and the last first date had been a disaster. He was freaking out and pacing his apartment, tidying up and worrying irrationally that something would stop Saturday from coming.
After a few minutes of hanging out, and playing video games, Robert came back to pick Venus up, so she had to leave for home in time for dinner. "Okay, I'd better head home." She grabbed her purse, which resembled a tiny, black backpack with cat ears and a little, fluffy tail, and headed for the doors. "Good luck on your date, Fred! Not that you need it. It'll be great!" She giggled, and after he said his goodbyes, she walked outside, greeting Heathcliff, and sat in her family's car. As they talked, Robert drove for home.
Fred had wished her luck as well, but that didn't mean he wasn't horribly nervous.
He barely slept the night before the date.
Venus was the same; she tossed and turned for almost the whole night. Not even playing soothing music, or holding one of her many stuffed animals helped. She got barely any sleep on Friday night.
The next morning, she woke up at her usual time, but due to exhaustion from lack of sleep, she decided to have a nap, so she wouldn't look exhausted on her date. Though she had to close and lock her door at one point, because Jack threw a hackysack at her head. By noon, 4 hours later, she felt much more refreshed, and had a small, late breakfast.
The time for Venus to get ready for her date came very quickly. Taking Fred's advice to heart, she put on her black Hawaiian floral dress, and on her feet, she wore black Converse low-top sneakers. She then walked downstairs, but when she passed by the kitchen, she suddenly felt large, sauce-covered hands in her hair, making her yelp in shock. "Jack!" She yelled angrily. As he laughed, Jack revealed that he had tomato sauce from last night's spaghetti dinner on his hands. "I don't have time to shower!"
"Jackson!" Malia, their mother, scolded her son for his childish behavior. "Here, let me help you," She escorted her upstairs to one of the bathrooms. Using damp paper towels, she wiped out as much sauce as she could, though the smell still lingered. "Well, it's not visible," She sniffed her daughter's hair, "Though I still smell it, but hopefully, Wesley won't notice."
"Yeah," Venus nodded, "Thanks." She was escorted back downstairs, her mother protecting her from her evil brother, and they made it outside.
Wasabi was grateful he lived alone, because that way he could get everything perfect. Then he headed out, on his way towards the date that could change everything.
Fred picked Honey up for their date, driving one of the family's cars instead of taking the limo. Worried about carrying flowers around that would only wilt, he went a nontraditional route and got Honey Lemon a hair pin that resembled a daisy. When he arrived at GoGo's place he presented the pin to Honey Lemon sudden and shy, like a little kid presenting show and tell.
Venus sat outside on the front porch, while Malia stayed inside to make sure Jack wouldn't pull any more mischief. She held her purse in her lap, as she waited patiently. When a car driven by a familiar face pulled up in front of the sidewalk, she perked up. After telling her mom she's heading out, she walked to the car. She smiled and blushed when Wasabi opened the passenger door for her. "Thanks," She sat in the seat, and buckled in.
Honey beamed brightly at the gift Fred got her. "Aww, thanks Freddie! It's beautiful!" She hugged him, even giving him a kiss on his cheek. She slid the hair pin in her blonde hair above her ear, and glanced behind her back. "See you later, GoGo!"
"Bye," GoGo waved in farewell, "Have a good date. Also Fred, if you hurt her, you're dead meat."
"You look gorgeous-" Wasabi blurted, feeling self-conscious.
"I'm not going to hurt her," Fred stammered, incoherent after the cheek kiss. He helped her into the car.
"I can't believe we're doing this," Fred blurted suddenly, happy but fearful, close to being overwhelmed.
Venus blushed, as she smiled timidly, fiddling with the skirt of her dress. "Aww, thanks. Um, y-you look really handsome."
"Me neither!" Honey agreed. "But I'm excited! This date's going to be wonderful!"
Wasabi blushed.
"Oh, thank you. I had the hardest time picking this sweater." Instead of his normal green he wore a dark blue one and a black jacket.
Fred's hands were shaking on the steering wheel.
"Can I tell you something?" He asked. They were still parked outside of GoGo's place.
Venus smiled. "You're welcome. I admit, I had a difficult time picking out my dress as well. But Fred helped me out, after I had helped him for his date with Carmen."
Honey turned to Fred. "Yeah, sure; what's up?"
"You two are good friends. I'm glad someone else has your back. Hopefully I can be someone you come to now."
"I'm a little freaked out," Fred confessed.
"Like, I'm so happy we're doing this but I keep thinking I'll wake up because you're like sunshine, like rainbows and beauty and I don't deserve you..."
Venus smiled at that. "You surely will be," She nodded, and timidly played with her slightly damp hair, "And um, I hope to be someone you rely on too."
"Aw, Freddie; you're not dreaming. This is all very real. And if anything, I don't deserve you; you're the sweetest, greatest guy I've ever known." Honey sighed sadly. "Other guys I tried dating thought I was too perky."
Wasabi put his hand on her shoulder, hoping he wasn't being too forward.
"I will, Venus."
Fred gasped.
"Too perky? That's insane! You're the perfect amount of perky. You make everyone around you happier. You make me happier. When I'm around you I feel like I'm breathing in clean air in a sunny park and people are flying kites and butterflies are flying around and the grass is like, perfect green and there's a picnic full off really good sandwiches, and bubbles to blow. That should be our next date, actually. If you want to go on another one after this."
Venus smiled shyly, letting his hand stay where it was. "Thanks, Wesley. Or uh, Wasabi." She giggled sheepishly.
Honey's smile grew back, as tears welled up in her eyes. "Thanks, Fred. I, I'd love that."
"Either works, Miss Catherine "Venus" Woods."
"I love you," Fred blurted without thinking, finally starting the car.
"'Kay," She nodded with pink cheeks, and absently watched the window. She glanced down at the ledge of the window, trying to think of something to talk about. "Um... I, I like your car."
Honey turned to Fred in surprise, but her beginning to respond was interrupted by the car starting, and driving along the road.
Wasabi chuckled.
"Thank you. It's a good car and I enjoy driving it. Safely, that is." They would be at the mall soon. Wasabi normally didn't like the mall, too crowded and dirty, but there were things he was willing to overlook for her.
Fred smiled smugly to himself, proud that he'd said those words out loud as they headed to NoodleBurger. He stole glances while they were at stoplights.
Venus smiled. "Yeah. I don't have my license yet, but um, I, I do know about safety when on the road." After a couple more minutes, they arrived in the parking lot. She hopped out of the car after Wasabi opened the door for her. They walked inside the building, hand-in-hand. She found the place they're looking for nearby, and pointed to it. "There it is!" She glanced at the restrooms nearby. "Um, i-if it's okay, I'd like to wash my hands before going in line. I won't be long; I prefer to be clean."
Honey smiled at him, as he drove. He said the L word? She felt her heart flutter with joy at that. No other guy had ever said it to her. She smiled during the whole drive to Noodleburger.
Wasabi nearly swooned.
"I'll do the same." He had hand sanitizer, obviously, but there was nothing better than soap and water.
Fred was like an excited little child when they got to Noodleburger, feeling so much better now that he'd gotten everything off his chest. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Venus nodded, her hands clasped together. "'Kay." They walked together, but parted to go in the separate restrooms. When alone, she let a smile grow as she washed her small hands at one of the faucets. Things were already going well between them.
Honey smiled at Fred; she loved seeing him like this. He was adorable when happy, or excited. They order their food, and sit in a booth to wait for it to be finished.
Wasabi walked out after a good hand scrubbing and headed toward the line, looking around for her, momentarily afraid she had bailed, though that was obviously ridiculous.
Fred was talking about all the really good things to eat there even though she'd probably eaten most of it.
Venus rushed out of the restroom, and up to Wasabi. "S-sorry I took so long!" She panted. "I, I had splashed some sink water on myself, and had to dry it off."
Honey listened intently to Fred as he talked. She loved eating at Noodleburger, so she loved hearing about what was new, and what Fred thought was great. She loved his vast knowledge on the franchise. Their food came fairly quickly; she had a Cock-a-Noodle-Doo burger. She moaned with pleasure after having a bite. "So good!" She gushed. "Noodleburger is the best!"
Wasabi chuckled.
"No worries! I knew you wouldn't bail. I trust you." That was big for him.
Fred nodded in agreement, mouth full of Noodleburger, so he didn't reply audibly. He was so happy.
Venus smiled shyly, as she caught her breath. "Th-thanks for trusting me." They waited in the line, and she smiled at the mouth-watering scents from behind the counter. "It smells amazing, doesn't it? Their ingredients are always fresh." She licked her lips. "I'm getting more and more hungry," She giggled.
Fred and Honey talked in between burger bites; Honey told Fred about her experiments in chemistry, while Fred rambled excitedly about the newest Captain Fancy comic book. Normally, she wan't that into comic books, but she could listen to Fred talk about them all day.
"I'm excited," Wasabi said, his stomach grumbling and reminding him how little he'd eaten out of stress, "and hungry."
Fred loved to hear her talk about chemistry and her other passions. Watching her eyes light up made him melt.
Venus lightly giggled. "Sounds like it." The cool conditioned air inside made her shiver; she should've worn a jacket, but it didn't cross her mind. "Bit chilly in here."
Honey sighed happily after she finished rambling about her newest experiment. "I'm having a wonderful time, Fred. I'm so glad we did this."
Wasabi immediately shed his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders.
"You should take this, then."
Fred nodded, earnestly.
"I was so scared to talk to you beyond normal pleasantries. This is what I've always wanted, but also better than anything I could dream up, and I was afraid it wasn't possible." Then he took her hand across the table.
"But look at you, look at us, you're real, we're real. We did it." He ended his little speech by kissing her hand.
Venus smiled shyly, as her cheeks blushed pink. "Thanks. That does feel better." She held his coat a little tighter around her shoulders.
Honey blushed deeper, as she giggled. She mentally swooned at Fred being such a gentleman. "We did! And this is an amazing date. I'm so excited for our next one, Freddie."
Wasabi blushed.
"You're welcome, it's my pleasure." They got to the front of the line and ordered, Wasabi making up for his week of skipping meals with a burrito bowl piled with food.
"I'm excited too," Fred said, adding, completely unrelated, "I like it when you call me Freddie."
Venus ordered a taco kit from the kids menu with two small, soft taco shells sided with chicken, shredded cheese, and rice mixed with cilantro and lime juice. While he held the tray with their food and napkins, she carried their fountain drinks and some black plastic silverware. They sat at a small table, across from each other. Venus used a fork to fill the first shell with chicken and cheese, and had a bite. "Mm, yummy!" She licked her lips after her first bite, and had another. "How's your burrito bowl?"
Honey smiled at that, and giggled. "Maybe I should call you Freddie more often."
"It's delicious. This was a good choice." Despite the messy bowl, Wasabi ate slowly and carefully.
Fred nodded eagerly.
"I'm kind of the only one without a nickname, so it... It makes me feel special," he explained.
"I wonder how Vesabi's date is going. That's their ship name. Unless you want to go with their real names which would be Vensley, wait no, Catsley."
Venus smiled timidly after her second bite. "Thanks. I've eaten here a thousand times, so um, I thought it'd be a good place for our date." She then had another bite.
Honey giggled at the ship names. "I think Vesabi sounds best. But should I text Wasabi? Or should you text Venus? Maybe both?"
Wasabi blushed hard at the word date.
"Since you asked me here, I should ask you on our next date."
"Both," Fred said, shooting Venus a text, mostly heart eyes emojis and a few question marks.
"'Kay!"Honey giggled, and texted Wasabi in a similar way to Fred's text; many heart-related emojis, and question marks.
Venus looked up at him, her big green eyes (or eye, since her right was covered by her hair) genuinely surprised. "Our next date?" She smiled a bit. "You mean... you want to see me again?"
"I really do," Wasabi said, before his phone began buzzing. He checked it and blushed, testing back a little yellow thumbs up.
"She's not answering! Fred sulked, before smirking. "Maybe they're making out. I bet she has his coat wrapped around her..."
Honey couldn't help but giggle. "It's a little soon for that, Freddie." She saw Wasabi's text, and smiled. "He sent me a thumbs-up. The date's going great!"
Venus' smile grew. "I... I'd love another date." Her phone, in a black bunny ears case, vibrated in her purse a few minutes ago, but she didn't notice until just now. After cleaning her hands with a napkin, she checked her messages, feeling a bit alarmed at how long ago she got the text from Fred. "Oh!" She giggled at the excessive amount of heart eyes emojis. "Fred texted me almost 5 minutes ago." She replied with a yellow thumbs-up and a smiley face emoji, then finished her second, and last, small taco. "I uh, I, I'm having a really nice time."
"They have chemistry, it could happen," Fred said. He saw Venus' reply and was relieved.
"Me too."
Venus put her phone back in her purse, and started eating her rice; she always ate it on its own. She sipped her Coke, being careful to not loudly slurp, and accidentally let a little burp out. "Oop! Excuse me!" She giggled sheepishly, her cheeks red. "I, s-sorry. I, I didn't mean to..."
"Yeah," Honey nodded in agreement, "While they were talking, I definitely saw a spark between them. Wasabi's a great guy, and Catherine seems like a very sweet girl. She's cute too."
"Venus helped me pick out my outfit," Fred explained.
"She's really good with clothes. And she's super nice."
"It's alright," Wasabi assured, chuckling.
"Oh, really?" Honey admired his outfit. "Well, she did great! You look really handsome." She blushed at the compliment she gave him. "I'd love to get to know her! We could talk about clothes all the time!"
Venus giggled, and had another small bite of rice. Since their date first started, she had been feeling more and more at ease. "So um, d-do you have any uh, any hobbies? I've been in gymnastics since I was three years old, and martial arts since I was five, after my dad insisted. Um... oh, when I was ten, my mom started teaching me how to bake fun treats. I've made some for Halloween and Christmas since then. And um..." She felt incredibly shy about this one, as she looked down at her little tray. "I uh, I... I sing a little. A bit."
"We should double date," Fred suggested eagerly, face red from being called handsome.
"Well I'm passionate about organization, I like knitting and I know some stuff about fencing. Self taught with YouTube and stuff. Your hobbies sound cool."
"That'd be wonderful!" Honey gushed. "We should ask Wasabi and Venus the next time we see them!"
"Wow, cool! I'd love to learn how to knit sometime. I sew too, ever since I was little. Though I can't cook to save my life." Venus rolled her eyes with a giggle at the last one. "I do know about being organized; I try that too. I have these Disney Princess dolls in my room, and I have them arranged by the premiere of their debut movie. Like Snow White first, then Cinderella next, and so on up to Moana." Normally, she was kind of shy about her love for Disney, considering some bullies, including her brother, thought she was childish for it, but while she was with Wasabi, she felt more comfortable opening up.
Fred was already in his head making plans.
"I cook! Maybe I could make you dinner sometime. And I could teach you knitting, it's not that hard especially if you see. As for Disney, there's no shame in loving it. My favorite is Up. Always cry like a baby."
"What'cha thinking, Freddie?"
Venus smiled. "That sounds nice. Both of those things. And um, I, I love that movie too; I can see why you always cry from it. I do too." She tucked some hair behind her ear. "I think my favorite's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Once when I was little, my family and I had gone to Disneyland for a weekend. I had dressed up as Snow White, while my brother was a pirate; he kept jabbing me with his sword, until Dad took it away." She sipped her Coke. "I actually have a cousin who works there; we get discounts on our tickets. And um... h-he's like the brother I never had. One who, um... actually loves me." She looked down at the table.
Wasabi reached over and took her hand, squeezing it supportively.
"I'm really sorry about your brother. But I'm glad you have people in your life that care about you and uh, I care about you too."
Fred beamed at the name.
"Planning dates. Double dates, solo dates... I just want to spend time with you."
Venus looked up at him, and smiled shyly. "Thanks, Wasabi. I uh, I'm really glad we did this. Y-you're really sweet." Feeling bold, she stood off her seat, leaned across the table, and gave Wasabi a kiss on his cheek.
Honey smiled at Fred. "That's so sweet. I want to spend time with you too." She gave him a kiss on his cheek, leaving a mark from her pink lipstick.
Wasabi blushed and stopped her before she pulled away, giving her a gentle, quick kiss on the mouth. He'd never done that before with a real person (some pillow practice had been done) and he was surprised and delighted that the kiss was successful.
Fred grinned from ear to ear.
"I'm really the luckiest guy in San Fransokyo, being here with you."
Venus' eyebrows raised in surprise, her cheeks a deep red; she was not expecting that... but she loved it. That just so happened to be her first kiss; though she didn't know it was his too. She smiled, as she sat back in her chair after scooting it closer to him and the table, not knowing to say.
"Aww, Freddie." Honey hugged Fred from the side. "I'm the luckiest girl on Earth, to be the one you like."
Wasabi looked down at his shoes and grinned.
Fred wrapped his arm around her and leaned back.
"Do you want to do anything? Since we're done with the food?" He left a nice tip on the table.
"That um," Venus mumbled timidly, holding his jacket over her shoulders, "Th-that was um... n-nice."
"Hmm," Honey thought for a moment, "Maybe we can go to the park? It's so lovely outside; the perfect day for it."
"It was nice," Wasabi agreed, saying something that surprised him, "you can keep the jacket."
Fred nodded and took her hand and the check. He laced their fingers together and was smiling a lot.
Venus felt surprised herself. "Um, thanks, but... a-are you sure? This is yours; I don't need it. I have plenty of jackets at home."
"Freddie, you didn't have to pay for our meals," Honey insisted, "Coming here was my idea. Let me pay you back." She tried to grab the receipt, but Fred kept it out of her reach.
"It looks good on you," Wasabi said.
"I have other jackets too." That one was his favorite, but he preferred it on her.
"Heck no," Fred said with a chuckle, shredding the receipt.
"I can afford it, Carmen. The only thing I want from you is your time. We could do anything together and I'd enjoy it."
"Well uh," Venus glanced down at it. It did look nice, but she couldn't just take it. "Um, y-you're really positive about this? I mean, I, I can return it to you anytime you need it."
By now, Honey knew that Fred's family was loaded, but she still didn't feel right about him paying for their meals, when she had suggested coming there. "A-are you sure?"
"If I need it back for any reason I will let you know," Wasabi promised.
"I'm sure. I have a certain allotment of money per month to spend on fun stuff like hangouts and dates. When I finish my degree I'll have to look for a real job or take a low-level position under my dad. I have big plans, and part of those plans is to spend time with you."
"Well, um... o-okay," She nodded with a shy smile, "Thanks. I, I really appreciate it. And um, I promise I won't let my brother do anything to it."
Honey smiled with pink cheeks. "Thanks, Freddie." They walk outside, and she sits in the passenger seat of Fred's car after he opens the door for her. "I hope to get a job too; you won't be the only breadwinner," She giggled.
"Why do you stay at home if your brother is such a monster?" Wasabi asked suddenly.
Fred blushed in surprised as she brought up their future. He held her hand while they drove.
Venus sighed sadly, as she shrugged. "I, I can't take care of myself. I can't cook anything, and I surely can't live on baked goods, takeout, or frozen dinners. And... I can't bear to leave my parents just yet. I love them both, and they try their hardest with Jack. He's just... determined to make my life a horror film." She looked down at her lap. "And um... moving out scares me."
Honey smiled, holding Fred's hand, as they headed for the park. She was glad that the day was going marvelously for them.
"I was really scared too," Wasabi said, "I was terrified, for different reasons. But I wasn't going to let myself live like that any longer. Having my own place was a dream of mine. To be in control... It was scary, but it was freeing." He had his own baggage.
Fred was euphoric, but some fear lingered. That's why he liked holding her hand. It felt real. It made things real. He didn't have to move faster than hand-holding and cheek kissing, though he desperately wanted to dote on her with meals and hairpins and anything he thought would make her smile, whether cheap or expensive, he didn't care.
Venus listened intently, and nodded. "Yeah... you're right. I'm not going to let Jack loom over me any longer. After I'm back home, I'm going to talk with my parents about it. Maybe I can live in one of the dorms on the SFIT campus, for a start."
Honey lost herself in her thoughts, as they drove. She was so glad Wasabi encouraged her to ask Fred out; she'd have to thank him later. Fred was a really fun person to be with; there was never a dull moment with him around.
Wasabi wholeheartedly supported. that decision
Fred didn't try to interrupt her thoughts, he just hummed one of his ridiculous theme songs to himself.
Soon, they were both finished with their meals. Venus reached for her wallet, but Wasabi stopped her. "Oh, y-you don't have to pay," She insisted, "I can cover it."
Honey heard him, and couldn't help but smile. She loved how he wasn't afraid to show his fanboy side.
"It's our first date so we can split it? And then we can switch off, maybe?" Wasabi suggested.
Fred glanced over her and smiled. He couldn't even blush anymore, he wasn't worried or embarrassed when he had her hand in his. He did giggle a bit.
Venus nodded with a smile. "Okay, good idea." She grabbed her wallet, and took out her half of the bill. Once it was paid, they walked out of the mall. "It sure is beautiful out, isn't it?" She remarked.
"You're so cute," Honey giggled.
"Yeah," Wasabi agreed, looking at her.
"I thought I was handsome," Fred giggled, pretending to pout.
Venus turned to him, and smiled shyly, as they walked to his car. She thanked him when he opened the passenger door for her, and sat in the seat. "Um... I, I had a wonderful time. Thanks for this; I can't wait for our next date."
Honey smiled at him. "You're both," She giggled, and kissed his cheek.
"Me neither. You're really great, Venus."
Fred grinned but could return the cheek kiss until they parked. He kissed her cheek and then got out of the car.
Venus blushed and smiled. "Thanks; you are too." She kissed his cheek after he sat next to her.
Honey blushed, as he opened the door for her, and she stepped out of the car. Hand-in-hand, she and Fred walked in the park, and sat on a bench next to each other. "This sure is nice," She remarked.
Wasabi smiled and drove her home, savoring each moment he had with her.
Fred watched kids run around the park, stealing glances at Honey Lemon when he felt like he needed to ground himself in this present reality. He still felt so jittery.
"It is nice," he agreed, before jumping to his feet and pulling her up with him.
"It's too nice to just sit here."
Venus leaned back in the seat, feeling relaxed as he drove. She really enjoyed their date, and was looking forward to the next one.
Honey nodded in agreement. "Yeah; it is." Getting an idea, she poked Fred's shoulder. "Tag! You're it!" She giggled, and started running around the park. Even in her high heels, she was a fast runner.
Fred grinned and took off after, pretty fast himself. To tag her back, when he finally caught up, he wrapped his arms around her waist, but they began to fall because of the momentum. He twisted himself to take the brunt of the fall and ended up getting a few scrapes and a small bump on his head. He was laughing.
Wasabi stole looks at stoplights, driving a bit slower, taking a longer route, prolonging their date just a few minutes.
Honey, during her laughing fit, sat up to look down at him. "Are... are you okay?" She asked Fred through giggles.
Venus noticed that Wasabi was driving a different, longer route to her house, but didn't say anything; truthfully, she wanted their time together to last just a little longer. As the radio played one of her favorite songs, she absently started to sing along under her breath.
Wasabi was surprised and delighted when she started singing. He thought she was amazing.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little scraped up. Am I still cutesome?" He laughed and winked at her.
When the song ended, she finished singing. When she turned to Wasabi, and saw him smiling, she blushed shyly. "Um, s-sorry," She stammered, fiddling with her hair.
Honey giggled. "You certainly are, Freddie." She kissed his cheek again.
"You're really good," Wasabi praised.
Fred sat up, arms still wrapped around her.
Venus' blush deepened, as her smile grew back. "Really? Th-thanks. I," She lightly giggled, "I've uh, been singing for, I guess, since I first started talking. But I never considered a uh, a career out of it. My passion is botany."
Honey giggled, and leaned against Fred. "Today has been amazing; I wish it didn't have to end."
"You don't have to make a career out of your hobby to be good at it or enjoy it. You have talent."
"It has to end," Fred said sadly, "but there will be other days."
Venus smiled as she nodded. "True. I mostly sing when home alone, or playing a karaoke game with my mom." She giggled, "My mom has an amazing voice."
Honey nodded. "That's a good point. I'm so excited for our next date." She smiled at him. "I love being around you, Fred."
"I'd like to meet your parents. Maybe not your brother."
Fred kissed her cheek again, nuzzling his face into her neck after the kiss.
"You're so warm..." He held her close.
Venus giggled at the last part. "Yeah; I'll keep Jack away. But I know my parents will love you."
Honey snuggled up to Fred, her cheeks pink. "You're so sweet." She never wanted the moment to end; she was on cloud nine.
"I can't wait to meet them." He didn't mention his own family though it weighed heavily on his heart.
Fred didn't stop holding her until the the sun started to set.
"I should get you home. GoGo might kill me if I keep you out too late."
"And I can't wait for you to meet them," Venus smiled, "And maybe sometime, I can meet yours." She knew about his older brother, from what he told her, but she was oblivious to how his parents were.
"Oh yeah," Honey nodded, and they stood on their feet, "Let's go." They went back in his car, and headed back for hers and GoGo's apartment. "I had a wonderful time today. Thanks, Freddie."
"No," Wasabi said quickly, coming out a little colder than he meant.
"No, sorry." He backtracked apologetically.
Fred walked her to the door, standing next to it. He'd leaned in to kiss her cheek when the door opened and startled him.
Venus was surprised at how urgent he sounded. And she felt a little confused; why wouldn't he want her to meet his parents? She decided to not press on it further, and nodded. "Oh, um, o-okay." Though she was still curious.
GoGo opened the door, and stepped aside to let her roommate in. "Bye, Fred!" Honey kissed his cheek. "Thanks for the fun day!" She walked further in the apartment, as GoGo lingered at the doorway.
"So, your date went well?" She asked Fred.
"It's not you, Venus, it's them," he mumbled.
"It was good," Fred said, smiling dreamily.
"R-really?" She felt concerned at that. What was up with his parents? She didn't feel right asking why that is, but she wanted to know. She wanted to help him. Though she stayed quiet, not knowing what to say.
GoGo smirked at him. "Good. I'll see you at SFIT tomorrow, Fred." She closed the door, and walked further in the apartment.
"Tomorrow is Sunday," Fred mumbled, still in a dream state, smiling lovingly.
"Yeah," Wasabi said with a sigh.
"I know I told you about my brother but Damon's not the reason I left home. Even when he was being mean my brothers and I cared about each other." That's all he said, leaving her to draw her own conclusions about why he'd desperately needed to leave home for his own place.
GoGo mentally kicked herself for saying "tomorrow", instead of Monday. She had forgotten it was Sunday. "I meant Monday!" She yelled to the door, as Honey giggled, hoping Fred would hear. She felt like an idiot.
"O-oh," Venus nodded, "I see." She thought about it as he drove; the only conclusion she could come up with was that his parents weren't exactly... ideal. They weren't like hers. She carefully reached over, and patted his shoulder in sympathy. "I, I'm sorry you have to go through... wh-what you go through." She felt embarrassed by the lame end. She didn't know exactly what wording to use.
Fred glanced back and laughed, giving GoGo a thumbs up. He went to bed that night dreaming of the wonderful day he'd spent with Honey.
Wasabi smiled gratefully at her, pulling up to her house after several detours.
"Thanks. That's all I can really tell you right now because I'm trying to move on and get to a better spot before I open up about everything, y'know? I'm just not comfortable talking about it yet. But they weren't physically abusive or anything so you uh, you don't need to worry about that. I wouldn't have left Khary on his own if they were..."
Honey slept peacefully that night, smiling as she thought of the amazing day she had with Fred. She was really looking forward to their next date; she was positive that it would be just as wonderful as the first.
Venus listened, and nodded at every short pause. "Okay. You can talk about it once you're good and ready; I won't pressure you. I'm glad there's no physical abuse going on at your former place. I have to admit, I was worried about that. And um, Khary's lucky to have a brother like you, who cares about him."
Fred spent the rest of the weekend making plans for their next dates and writing poetry he might one day be bold enough to show her.
Wasabi coughed in embarrassment.
"I'm not a good brother." Was all he said.
Venus shook her head with a smile. "I'm sure you are. You're very sweet, caring, and fun to be with." She glanced over at her house. "Um, I hate to rush off, but I'd better get in there before my parents get worried." She gave Wasabi a kiss on his cheek. "I'll see you around; I'm really looking forward to our next date. And um, I'll talk to my parents about moving into an SFIT dorm."
"I can't wait to see you again. Maybe we can set up a second date when we see each other next?"
Venus nodded with a smile. "We can do that. I'm excited to see you again." She undid her seat belt, and hopped out of the car, her purse slung over her shoulder; she then walked around, and stopped at his side. She smiled after he opened the window. "I'll see you at campus on Monday."
"See you Monday." Wasabi wanted to cook her dinner for their next date so, like Fred, he spent the weekend planning.
Venus walked in her house, holding his jacket closer to her tiny body, before Wasabi drove off; she swore to cherish it, and make extra sure that Jack wouldn't do anything to it. When she took it off, she hid it in her closet, where he wouldn't be able to find it.
Over dinner that night, she discussed moving to an SFIT dorm to her parents. They were surprised at the somewhat sudden idea, and they knew they would miss her, but they supported her decision. She decided that in a few weeks, almost a month, she'll start moving all of her stuff to the dorms.
That night, as she laid in bed, she smiled; memories of the day she had with Wasabi ran through her mind. She had a wonderful time, and couldn't wait for them to go on their next date.
