Ignores movie 3, except for the Light Furys (anyone else think of a Blue-Eyes White Dragon when they look at her?) And will probably seem to ignore loads of the series, because I've only seen Race To The Edge I've got no idea what happened in the earlier series. Also Stoick is alive because I wanted him to be. And yes, Hiccup and OC and some Astrid bashing, I can't help it, some characters in media just rub me the wrong way and Astrid is one.

Anyway, please give it a go.

Enjoy!

One

Staring towards the horizon, Hiccup sighs as he strokes along the side of Toothless' head as the black dragon rests at his side. The dragon's jade coloured eyes watch his rider as he looks out over the ocean. He has a map open across his lap that he was scanning intently before gazing out towards a thick mist bank.

"Hiccup!" the brunette sighs again as he hears his name yelled and the flapping of powerful wings. There is a chittering sound that clues him in on the dragon that's landed, if the voice wasn't enough. He looks over his shoulder and throws Astrid a smile that does nothing to alleviate the frown on the blonde's face. Astrid crosses her arms as she walks over to him "There you are. Hiccup, your father is looking for you. You left without telling anyone. Again." Hiccup scratches the back of his head and gives an awkward laugh. Yeah, he did do that.

"Sorry, I just thought of something," he explains "We'd explored so much of the archipelago, but there's still places we've never seen. Like over there-" He points but Astrid doesn't even bother to look as she interrupts him "Hiccup we don't have time for your mysteries, you need to get back to Berk to speak with Stoick," Astrid jumps back up onto Stormfly's back, shaking her head "I thought with your mother back, you'd want to spend more time back with the tribe, not less." Stormfly chatters again as the blonde settles herself into the saddle. He opens his mouth to defend himself but she speaks over him "Hiccup, I don't want to hear it! Back to Berk. Now!" Stormfly flaps her wings and lifts into the air, a thin cloud of dust wafting up as she lifts up. Hiccup mentally groans, but at this point, he knows better then to argue with her. It'll just result in him getting punched. Astrid has never been what you could call subtle.

He slips into the saddle on the Night Fury's back, his metal foot clicking into place and and the black dragon dives off the edge of the rock pillar, spreading his wings to catch the wind and rising quickly. Lifting into the air, Hiccup pats the side of Toothless' head and uses the harness part of the saddle to direct the dragon to follow Stormfly, throwing one last glance of his shoulder at the fog bank. Then he frowns, pull back to make Toothless hover in place for a moment. There's flashes of light from within it. They almost look like... plasma blasts...

"Astrid," he shouts ahead, making the blonde groan as she brings her Nadder to a halt and turns around to glare at the chief in training "Will you just look!" He throws his hand out in the direction of the thick mist, making her roll her eyes but follow. Then she frowns, able to see what he means "Let's check it out!" She opens her mouth to shout no to him, but he's already turned around and is flying towards the fog.

Hiccup presses his body close to Toothless' back as the two fly head close to fog. The fly along side, following the blasts with a confused frown. Why would a dragon willingly be staying within the mist, the visibility would be terrible, hardly any dragons would be able to navigate it properly. Toothless coos softly in question and Hiccup nods "Alright bud, let's go in." Toothless nods and turns into the mist. His eyes narrow as he tries to see through the clouds but neither dragon or rider can make out much of anything, except the bright flashes ahead of them. He pushes forward, heading towards the blasts. As they get closer, they start being able to make out a shadowy shape. Hiccup looks up and frowns. The shape... that almost looks like Toothless. The Night Fury pushes himself harder and gets closer, able to fly more alongside the shadow.

Hiccup blinks in shock, able to make out what looks like a person on the dragon's back. The mist still makes it hard to make out the details of... well anything. But he knows his eyes aren't playing tricks on him, there's definitely a person riding the dragon. Toothless lets out a call, which makes the dragon and it's rider turn to look at him before it makes a similar, though more shocked sounding cry before it banks to the side "Come on bud, let's follow them." Toothless nods and keeps up his pursuit. Hiccup has to close his eyes and throws a hand over his face to try and block the sharp air as Toothless picks up speed to keep up with the other dragon. Soon, they break through the wall of mist and are back over the ocean. Hiccup glances around then his jaw drops when his eyes fall on the dragon.

It's similar too Toothless, but it's scales are pure white and glitter in the sunlight. Toothless lets out a call that makes the dragon look down, his jade eyes meeting a pair of brilliant lapis lazuli blue. It lets out a soft coo in response and flaps it's wings gently as it flies around Toothless, looking it's black counterpart over. Hiccup is pretty speechless as he watches the new dragon, then, as it gets lower, he sees the figure on it's back. They're wearing armour that looks like it's made of the same scales as the dragon they're sitting on, with a hood that is pulled so it covers their face, though it looks to be modelled after the white dragon's head. The rider takes a moment to look him over, which he returns. The armour is skin tight, showing a slim, feminine figure, but other then that, he really can't make anything out about them. The white dragon moves closer, sniffing at Toothless before pulling back and flying in a circle. The rider's shoulders shake a little as she chuckles, patting the side of the dragon's head.

"Uh hey," Hiccup calls in greeting, offering an awkward smile as he waves, which the white clad rider returns in kind "I'm Hiccup..." he's met with silence, making him sigh "And you are?" The rider tilts her head to the side as her dragon croons softly, turning to glance at her. She raises a hand to her hood, as if she is going to lower it, but her head snaps up.

"Hiccup!" the brunette looks over his shoulder and sees Astrid and Stormfly making their way over to him and the new rider. The white dragon gives a startled cry and turns, flying away, even as Hiccup calls after them and Toothless gives a sad cry. The white dragon looks back and calls to Toothless before flying away. Toothless moves to follow but Hiccup tugs on the harness to keep him in place. The viking watches as the new dragon dips into the mist, just as Astrid reaches his side.

"What dragon was that?" the blonde asks with a frown.

"I don't know... but I'm going to find out," he adjusts position to fly after them, but their path is blocked when Astrid urges Stormfly in front to glare at him "What? Astrid you didn't see that dragon."

"Hiccup! Weren't you listening? Stoick wants to speak with you. You need to get back to Berk!" Astrid insists, leaning forward on the Deadly Nadder "You can find the dragon again! Let's head back!"

"Astrid! That dragon was the closest to a Night Fury we've ever seen. If there's any chance it can lead us to more, we have to take it. My father will understand. And if he doesn't, my mum will. Look... just tell dad I'll be back there soon. I have to do this! Toothless!" he tugs the harness and Toothless edges around Stormfly and dives back into the mists. Astrid grits her teeth and growls in annoyance as she turns her dragon round and heads back to Berk. Let Hiccup deal with Stoick's temper. Thor knows he's use to it by now. Let him chase this mystery dragon. Hopefully when this leads ends in a dead end like all the others, he'll finally learn his lesson and stop chasing ghosts to try and find more Night Furies.

In the mist, Hiccup and Toothless look around, trying to catch sight of the white dragon. No luck. It's colour means it can blend in with the clouds too easily. Out of nowhere, something slams into them, knocking them forward. A flash of white speeds past their eyes. Toothless croons then gives chase, staying close to the other dragon's tail. It bursts free of the mists with Toothless hot on it's heels, and glides over the ocean, towards more of those stone pillars.

The white dragon lands smoothly on the rocks and watches as the rider slips from the saddle and stretches. Toothless drops down and calls to the other dragon. The white clad rider reaches into a small bag attached to her dragon's saddle and walks to Hiccup. Toothless practically purrs as he lets her pet his head as she holds out a pouch of dried fruits, offering some to the viking. Hiccup hesitates for a moment and the girl chuckles, lowering her hood to reveal long autumn leaf coloured hair tied in a pair of loose braids and large, silvery grey eyes set in a heavily freckled, round cheeked face.

"If they weren't safe, I'm pretty sure your friend here would warn you," she lightly teases with a smile and a faint blush colours Hiccup's cheeks "I'm Runa and that's Mistwing." She introduces herself and her dragon, stepping back to let Hiccup dismount. Now both dragons are free of their riders, they bound over to each other and investigate one another. As the dragons play, Hiccup and Runa sit down on a rock to watch and split the bag of fruit.

"I've never even read about white Night Furies," Hiccup remarsk as the dragons playfully tackle each other and roll around in the dirt "Are they very rare?"

"Sorry to disappoint but Mistwing isn't a Night Fury, she's a Light Fury,"Hiccup frowns and mouth the species name in confusion "A cousin to dragons like yours," she sees the brunette's crestfallen expression and places a hand on his shoulder, offering him what she hopes is a sympathetic smile "I get it, you were hoping to try and reunite your dragon with more of his kind. Mistwing and I didn't mean to be a source of false hope. I'm sorry, but before your dragon I'd never seen a Night Fury outside of books. To be honest, I thought they were extinct."

"So do most people," he looks down, quiet until Runa bumps him with her shoulder "Right. Toothless is here so some others have to be too."

"And in the mean time," Runa smiles as she jumps up, instantly getting Mistwing's attention and the Light Fury quickly ducks Toothless' pounce to be at her rider's side "Let's see if he can fly like the stories say. Few dragons can match Mistwing's speed and agility," she slips back into the saddle "Wanna see if yours is one of 'em?" Hiccup smiles as the black dragon bounds to his side and bounces in excitement. He pushes at Hiccup's side until the viking puts a calming hand on his head so he can climb into the saddle. With both riders ready, the Furies race to the edge of the podium and dive off. As the dragons plummet, Hiccup glances over at the white dragon. The water is getting closer and closer, but she's still diving, the Light Fury's face calm. Just as he's about to have Toothless pull up, Mistwing spreads her wings and catches the air. As Toothless follows suit, Runa laughs, reaching down to run her hand through the water. Smiling to herself, Runa leans down and whispers to her dragon. Mistwing rumbles in amusement and nods, tucking closer to the water and giving a powerful flap. The sudden gust ruffles Hiccup's hair and while he uses his arm to clock the spray, Mistwing dives under the water.

Hiccup looks around, trying to guess where they are, but there's no sign of them. He frowns and Toothless makes a confused sound. Then, out of nowhere, Mistwing explodes from the ocean, purposefully splashing Hiccup and Toothless, Runa laughs as she shakes the salt water from her hair.

"Hey, no fair," Hiccup scolds, fighting a smirk "I'll get you for that!"

"You'll have to catch us first," and with that, she takes off. Hiccup smiles and nudges the Night Fury forward, chasing after the fleeing dragon.

The two young adult laugh brightly as the pair of Furies fly in and settle on one of the many landing platforms at the edge of Berk. The smiling auburn haired girl pulls something from her saddlebag as she dismounts, the dragon instantly sniffing at it eagerly. Runa unwraps the linen to reveal a smoked fish which she feeds to her dragon. As the Light Fury downs the fish, Toothless whines and looks to Hiccup in a begging manner.

"Sorry bud," Hiccup shrugs awkwardly as he scratches the back of his head "Wasn't expecting such a long flight so I didn't come packed. We'll get you some fish as we go. Promise." Toothless looks down, sad. Seeing this, Mistwing slides over to him and brings up half the fish and pushes it in his direction. He trills happily and downs the fish as Mistwing sits, licking her lips.

"Thanks for the offer to show me around," Runa remarks, tucking her hair behind her ear "It'll give Mistwing a chance to rest her wings before the flight home."

"So where is home for you?" all she offers is a secretive smile that has him roll his eyes "Well I'll show you around the market if you like." Runa hums and as the two riders walk, the dragons stick close. All the vikings they pass stare and a few whisper in hushed tones, making the newcomers more then a little uncomfortable. Her dragon stays close to Runa's side, eyes the watchers warily. She places a hand on Mistwing's head to try and keep the dragon calm. Despite the number of dragons and vikings that live there, Berk isn't too large so it's only a few minutes until they are in the centre of the market place, still Mistwing grumbles as people who aren't paying attention occasionally bump into her. However when one of them steps on her tail, she's had enough.

Snarling, Mistwing spins and pins the person, looming over them with teeth bared and a plasma blast charging in her throat. The person lets out a high pitched, girlish scream and there is a chorus of gasps from the crowd. Runa turns, eyes widening as she hurries to the dragon's side "Mistwing no!" The Light Fury is pinning a young man, similar in age to Runa and Hiccup with messy black hair and he's staring at the dragon with fear filled eyes, looking half way to wetting himself. Runa wraps her arms around her dragon's neck and tugs gently to move the dragon away, though she keeps her teeth bared and eyes narrowed as she moves. Hiccup helps his fellow viking to his feet, until he is shoved to the side.

"What was that? How'd a rabid beast like that get on Berk?" he spits out as he looks around until his eyes fall on Runa. Then he plasters on what he probably thinks is a charming smile and saunters over to her "Hi. I'm Snotlout. You've probably heard of me. I'm the leader of the Dragon Riders here on Berk." Over his shoulder, Hiccup rolls his eyes while Runa glares at him.

"You owe my dragon an apology," she says bluntly, crossing her arms across her chest as he frowns at her "She wouldn't have gotten mad if you had been watching where you were going." It's then that he notices the glaring dragon at her side. He recoils with a small yelp.

"What's going on here?" a booming voice calls, making all the vikings gathered to look in the owner's direction. The crowd parts to let a wide man with an impressive beard through "Well?"

"Dad it's just a misunderstanding," Hiccup explains, trying to diffuse the situation before it can occur. Stoick frowns as he moves closer, seeing the mess if things Snotlout dropped and the oddly dressed stranger glaring at him. Hiccup hurries to put himself between his father and Runa, putting on a smile "Astrid said you wanted to speak to me?"

"Aye, and I take it this... girl," he looks her up and down, noting her slim frame, unimpressed "Is the reason for you being so late?"

"Uh... kinda. Dad this is Runa," Hiccup introduces, gesturing to the auburn haired girl, who turns to face the chief "I met her out by this wall of mist. She-"

"Hiccup!" Astrid calls, her dragon landing hard as she jumps off to punch him in the arm, hard "What too you so long? You were suppose to just find that dragon, get some answers and come back." Her Nadder chitters, drawing Runa and Mistwing's attention. Runa takes a step back and the dragon around her growls at the blue dragon, her body tense and stance aggressive. Everyone gasps and Astrid spins to come to Stormfly's defence. Her gaze falls on the Light Fury and her jaw drops. When Hiccup said the dragon was like Toothless, she thought he was exaggerating.

"You... you have Nadders here?" Runa swallows, glancing at Hiccup. He nods, throwing her a concerned look. Unlike Astrid, who crosses her arms and shoots the new girl a dirty look.

"You got a problem with that?"

"I need to go," she hurries onto Mistwing's back and the Light Fury kicks up instantly. Runa pulls her hood and presses herself close to her dragon's scales. Hiccup shouts after her, but as soon as she clears the houses, Mistwing fires a plasma blast and flies into it. Everyone watches with shocked faces as the dragon and rider literally vanish into the clear sky.
