A/N: just fyi, I am no expert in any futuristic things Overwatch has, so I am doing my best to describe things the tech the characters have in my own words. I also don't know the names of everything, so it is the same as the previous sentence. Well, I could say that this could be part of an AU thing. Anyways, hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Overwatch or the characters. I don't own Marvel or the characters. If anything, if there is anything that isn't canon, I guess you could say it is mine. Insert shrug here. :T
Chapter 1: The Device
"What do you mean the device is missing?!" Doomfist is furious, clenching his gauntlet hand into a fist before pounding the long table in front of him, causing it to break into a million pieces in that single area he hit it. It is as if that one single spot got obliterated, while the rest of the table still stands. The ones sitting at the table are Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra and the newest member to Talon, Sigma. The only one that showed some sort of reaction is Sigma as he isn't accustomed to how Doomfist acts, unlike the other three. He looks over at his peers and he could tell by their body language, that he will get used to this soon.
Doomfist had stood up when he damaged the long table, but he sits back down and lets out a heavy sigh as he rubs his for forehead. He didn't say anything for several minutes as he thinks on his next move. That aside, he is curious as to how some of his top Talon members could've lost the device he needs. Doomfist looks up at the four of them and has a serious look in his eyes. "Now… I better get a good explanation as to how something simple as retrieving one device from a secure and secluded location ends up not making it back here." He knows them to be skilled enough to get in and out from the place he mentioned with little to no trouble at all, although Doomfist fully sure about Sigma yet, but knows enough to know he can hold his own.
The four of them looked at each other for a moment before Sombra speaks up. "I think I can answer that for you." She raises her hand up halfway as she speaks. "You see, it all started when we got there…"
Hours Earlier
The four of them have been tasked by Doomfist to retrieve a device in order for part of his plan to go smoothly. The place this device is located is actually in a hidden place where not many know of its' location, but those with deep connections- like Doomfist. So, the chance for Overwatch finding out is at a low percentage and that is exactly the way he wants it.
"In position." Widowmaker reports in as she is kneeling down on one knee and pointing her main weapon towards a building five blocks away. She uses the device on her head to scan the building and informs Reaper and Sigma about where and how many people there are in the building, while Sombra helps them gain access to the right areas. Sombra is already in position and will go to her second position when the first phase of the plan is completed.
"Good work, Amelia." Sigma replies back, his two first fingers tap the coms in his ear before he spoke. He never liked using names that aren't originally their own because he is old fashioned like that. Widowmaker frowns at the mention of that name. "I told you to never call me by that name, Sigma." He rolls his eyes and shakes his head. "I have discussed this matter with you many a time and the result is the same by you saying that exact statement." Sigma makes his way to his planned spot. They make small talk as they are in process of stealing the device. "Sigma in position."
Reaper doesn't comment on the talk coming from Widowmaker and Sigma as he'd rather not be caught up in that mess. He makes his way to his spot and comes back. "I'm in position." He then looks in the direction he knows Sombra to be at. "… Sombra." Sombra rolls her eyes and then looks at her nails before sighing. "Sí, I know. Get ready in, three… two… one." As she says this, she is already in the middle of hacking this place's systems and finishes right when she says 'one'. When it is done, the cameras, security weapons, and several other devices in the building go offline as the doors in front of Reaper and Sigma open up."
Widowmaker puts aside the topic of her real name for another time and focuses on the current task, which is now making sure of enemy locations near both Reaper and Sigma. She looks at Reaper. "Reaper, two enemies up ahead." Now she looks at Sigma. "Nouveau membre, three enemies incoming. You are up to the task, oui?" Sigma huffed as he made quick work of those three enemies. "Does that answer your question, Amelia?" He gave a smug smile, even though she couldn't see it, then moved on to the next area from the plan he is a part of.
Time passes and their plan runs smoothly, then they took the device to one of their nearby safehouses, so they can go into the town closest to their safehouse to get fuel before they can make their way back to their base. The ones to go get the fuel are Sombra and Widowmaker, while Reaper and Sigma stayed behind to watch over the device. About half an hour goes by and Reaper decides to take a nap, leaving Sigma to watch the device. "I'm gonna take a nap. Don't wake me up unless it's about the device or when those two come back with the fuel. Got it?!"
Simga's eyes widened a bit from Reaper's commanding voice. He is still new to Talon, so he isn't used to how different each of his co-worker's personalities work. "C-Crystal-" He clears his throat. "Crystal clear, Aanvoerder." Sigma does a mini salute; his words and salute must have satisfied Reaper because he huffed and walked off to one of the rooms down a small hallway, entering and closing a door on the left. He went to the couch and plopped down, a long sigh leaves him as he finally gets time to rest. "Ah, finally." This doesn't last long as he soon hears knocking coming from the front door. At first, he is irritated by the disturbance, but his curiosity gets the best of him and he reluctantly went to the door to see who it is. On the other side of the door, Sigma saw two men; one tall and round, while the other is slightly shorter and way skinnier than the other. It looked like they belonged in that one very old movie Sombra mentioned to him, Mad… something. Maine? Maid? Oh, well.
"G'day!" The lanky guy gives a big smile, while the other has a mask, so Sigma can't tell if he is smiling too or not. These two suddenly has him thinking of why they are at the doorstep. Based on how long he's spent with his other three co-workers, this place shouldn't be well known, although… this building is not too far from a town, so these two could be from said town. "It's evening, actually. What brings you two here?" He could tell by the way both of them look at each other before responding, that something is up- no, he could be wrong. Perhaps he is just imagining things.
"Glad ya asked. Whot we look loike aside, we actually work with ya. Thought you guys moight need help… back up, if you will. Need to check on…" The lanky guy glances in the masked guy's direction before finishing his sentence. "Oh! Uh… on what you got. Yeah, sounds 'bout roight. Gotta make sure it's still in tip-top condition for the boss man, yeah?" Sigma nods to this. "… I suppose." He briefly looks in the direction where Reaper is. This should be fine, Sigma thought. He may be new to Talon, but he is reliable and can contribute to the organization. "By the way, I don't believe we exchanged a proper introduction. My name is Sigma. You two are…?" He offers his hand for a handshake.
Junkrat's smile grows bigger, if that is even possible. "M'oi name be Ju-" Junkrat gets nudged by Roadhog. "Oh, uh… oi mean, James and this here is Roland." He points with his thumb to Roadhog. "Noice to meet ya,… Cig-mah." Sigma tried and failed to correct him, but quickly sighed in defeat. "Close enough." He has never heard of a James or Roland working for Talon, but he is new and Talon has been told they have many bases set up all around the world, so they must be from a different base than the one he is working at. "Anyways, follow me and I will show you the device." Sigma walks out of the place and went to where they are keeping the device. Once there, he unlocks the door that leads to the device, which is in a large sized garage of sorts. He inputs the number in the keypad and the door opens a little as Sigma will need to actually open the rest himself, which he does. "The device is right through… here." He had turned to look at the men behind him, but right when he does, he is hit really hard by a giant fist to his face and falls to the ground, unconscious.
oOo
"Good job, Roadie." Junkrat gives his bodyguard a friendly hit on his arm. He has Roadhog move Sigma aside for them to open the door. After, they both enter and put Sigma in a supply closet. They didn't have to search for the device because it was big enough where it is impossible to miss it. Junkrat let out a long whistle at the sight of the device. "Look at this beauty! Look at it. it's perfect!" He hobbled over to the device to inspect it closer, curiosity taking control of him. He wondered how it worked and slightly regretted having Roadhog knock out the only guy who he thinks knows how to work the device. Junkrat shrugged it off and decided to mess around with the buttons to see if he can miraculously make it work the way he wanted to.
Roadhog was looking around the room when Junkrat is looking at it, but now looks at his partner in crime, seconds after Junkrat began pressing the buttons. "Shouldn't do that now, Jamie. Got a guy for that." Junkrat stops what he is doing to look over at Roadhog. By the look on his face, he had completely forgotten about it. With what happened to Junkrat all those years ago has affected his memory. "Sorry, Roadie. Was just excoited is all." Junkrat does one of his well-known short laugh. "Couldn't help meself with it bein' shi-"
Just then, the device came to life. Junkrat had pushed one last button when Roadhog got his attention, which so happened to be the start button to begin whatever the device is meant to do. The random buttons he had pressed randomly actually prepped the device and had set a destination. Without warning, a portal suddenly appears and sucks the two Junkers in, then minutes later the portal disappears. The action caused by the portal opening and closing creates a mini-earthquake, which doesn't last too long.
oOo
This mini-earthquake wakes up Reaper and he grumbles as he leaves the room to see what Sigma is doing to have caused the movement he felt. "Sigma! What the hell are you doing?! I'm trying to-!" When Reaper gets to the living room area, which is where he last saw Sigma, he was gone. "Sigma?" He searches for Sigma to get the answers he needs, but sees no sign of him inside the place, so he moves on to the outside. "This is not amusing, Sigma. This better not be another one of Sombra's tricks she makes you be involved in or so help me I'll…" It's at this point, when Reaper rounds the corner, that he sees an unconscious Sigma laying on the ground and the door to the back is open ajar. Being the edgelord that he is, he kicks Sima's leg a few times, instead of getting down on his knees to shake Sigma's shoulders with his hands. "Get up! What happened?!"
It takes several more sets of kicks to Sigma's leg for him to finally wake up. Sigma sits up and rubs his head as his head still aches from the punch to his face from Roadhog. "… Huh?" Reaper repeats his question and it takes a few minutes for Sigma to reply clearly. "Two strange looking men came to the door and wanted to see the device. They told me they worked for Talon and that they needed to make sure the device wasn't damaged. I didn't know they were imposters, until I saw the big man's fist hit my face." This is the best explanation Sigma can muster as he needs to rest, hoping later his head will feel better.
Reaper's eyes widen under his mask. "WHAT!?" He goes past Sigma and burst into the large garage. He notices right away, that the device has been messed with because it didn't look exactly how he saw it last. Reaper realizes the movement he felt not too long ago had come from it. What else could it have been from? It had to be from this device, but he would have to ask Doomfist about this detail as he knows way more than the four of them combined. Reaper looks around the big garage, quickly searching for those two that Sigma mentioned, thinking they must have hidden when he spoke loudly at Sigma from outside the big garage. He comes back to where Sigma is outside exactly three minutes later, then grabs Sigma by the collar, holding him up a few inches off the ground.
"Where the hell did they go?!"
A/N: just to let you guys know, the time is set six months after what happened in the first Avengers movie.
