"All I'm saying is that if Jordan Baker was my boyfriend, my quality of life would go up about 75%," I said as I threw my scattered books into my book bag.
"I mean, yeah I can't really argue with that," Izzy said as she finished up her toast.
It was the last day of junior year and we had kept true to our tradition of eating breakfast together on the last day of school.
After kissing my mom on the cheek and scratching my dog, Vinnie, on the head I hurried out the door with Izzy by my side. We dumped our stuff in the backseat of my white mom van and Izzy grabbed the aux. She always played really weird music, but I was too afraid to tell her that I didn't like her music so I kept my mouth shut.
One of the major downsides to living in Los Angeles is the amount of time it takes to get places. Going to school should realistically take about three minutes, but with traffic it could easily take twenty minutes.
"How early did the boys get to school?" Izzy asked as she skimmed through her playlist.
"Jon picked up Jace at about 6:30, I'm pretty sure," I said as I tried to weave in and out of traffic.
"Damn, I didn't even hear Jace leave the house this morning," Izzy replied.
"Probably too busy with someone else," I said suggestively giving her a wink.
Izzy turned bright red and sunk into her seat.
"No way! He didn't spend the night!" I squealed.
"This was the first time, I promise, I was going to tell you," she said as her face turned to a darker shade of crimson.
"Simon Lewis, spending the night at your house. I just can't believe it," I said, shaking my head.
"I didn't think he would, but he just climbed right into my window," Izzy exclaimed with a laugh.
I chuckled as we pulled into the school parking lot. Idris High was a huge school with an alarming amount of students swarmed in the parking lot. It was a tradition that on the last day of school, the seniors would have their tailgate. They brought tables to play water pong and blasted music through huge speakers. It was something all the underclassmen looked forward to for their senior year.
I was talking to Izzy so I didn't notice when two boys came up to my car and started pounding on the windows. I screeched and my hands flew in the air. I looked over and saw two boys doubled over in laughter.
I rolled the window down, "I hate both of you," I said as I laughed.
"Oh, lighten up Clary, it's just too easy," my brother, Jon said as he dapped Jace up.
"Aye, Iz," Jace said as he leaned into the car through the open window, "let's not have another sleepover with Lewis."
"Jace, I swear to god if you tell mom and dad I'll tell them everything you've done. And your record is way dirtier than mine," Izzy said threateningly.
Jace put up both of his hands defensively, "Okay, damn Izzy I was just kidding."
It was pretty bizarre that Iz and I were best friends, and Jon and Jace were inseparable. It was a great sibling duo, but the arguing never stopped.
"Which girl you got this week, Herondale?" Jon asked jokingly to Jace.
Jace ran his hands through his golden locks and looked around. "I think I'm gonna for the summer fling with Kaelie. She won't take it seriously and that's exactly what I need."
I rolled my eyes, "Ugh, men. Disgusting," I said as I fake gagged.
"Got something to say, Clare-bear?" Jace said, using the nickname he knew I hated as a kid.
"Nothing at all, live your life Jacey," I said, my voice filled with artificial sweetness.
He stuck his tongue out at me and grabbed Jon by the shoulders, "Let's bounce we still gotta set up a senior prank," he chuckled with a gleam in his eye.
"Later Iz, Clare," Jace said as he steered Jon into the school doors.
Izzy and I soon followed, as the bell for the first period was due to ring in ten minutes.
The last day of school is always pretty boring, as most of the students are checked out and honestly, the teachers are too. The senior prank was a fail. Jace's great idea was to zip tie all the lockers shut, but principal Figgins didn't think it was too amusing. He made Jace go and cut all of them off. It took Jace awhile as there were about 1,500 lockers in the school.
Finally, the last bell rang and school was out for summer! Izzy and I made a mad dash for my car.
"Ahhh, I am so excited for the beach bash tonight!" Izzy exclaimed as we pulled out of the parking lot.
Summer in LA really is the best, especially for high schoolers like Iz and I. The beach is always available, there's always parties, and there is always something to do. The whole junior and senior class was invited to the annual "Beach Bash." It always got pretty crazy, and this was the first year we were able to go.
"Of course the first year we go, it's going to be with Jon and Jace," I said exasperatedly.
'Yeah, they're definitely going to embarrass us, but oh well, we'll just stay away from them," Izzy said confidently.
"I sure hope so, I don't want them stirring up trouble," I replied.
"They'll be so drunk, we'll be the last thing they're thinking about," Izzy grinned.
"That's true, last time Jon was drunk a girl slept over, and my parents weren't too happy with him," I chuckled as I recalled how confused Jon was that morning.
"Yeah, they'll have their hands full with all their flings," Izzy persisted.
"Tonight is definitely going to get interesting," I said as we flew down the highway with the windows down and music blaring.
