Beca stared at her hand intensely, brows furrowed as her thoughts raced. There was no way that she had just done that. It simply wasn't possible, was it?
It happened only moments ago. Beca had gotten up this morning with the actual anticipation to possibly attempt going to class, however farfetched an idea that may be, to hopefully throw her father off her trail for a bit. (He wanted her to join a club, for godsakes, like that was ever going to happen.) Tired from a late shift at the radio station, she stopped at the campus' union on her way to class. There was a cafe there that served the best coffee for miles. When the barista went to pass Beca her order, Beca's grip on it simply wasn't tight enough for how fast the barista released the beverage into Beca's care. It slipped right through her fingers and started plummeting towards the floor with coffee spilling out the top.
Immediately, Beca's pulse spiked at the thought of dropping a beverage publicly like some dunce and wasting her resources as a result. She reached out her hand as if she still had the time to catch the free-falling drink-
and it stopped right there in mid air. Floating.
Then the coffee started slowly reversing towards Beca, the liquid that had spilled out seemingly flowing straight back into the cup. Beca carefully closed her fingers around the beverage once it was back in her hand, and with her jaw dropped looked up at the barista to see them smiling as if nothing whatsoever just happened. What was Beca to do, ask them outright if they'd witnessed gravity working in reverse? Wouldn't that be crazy? Wouldn't that mean Beca was crazy? Beca had to have imagined it as now there wasn't a drop on her.
Did Beca imagine it? She couldn't help but second guess.
It was at that point that Beca's haphazard plan to go to class was completely abandoned. She meandered instead towards her favorite tree and sat beneath it, just to sip on her coffee and stare at her hand in astonished amazement. What was that back there? What happened? And...
...could she do it again if she tried?
