Annabeth loved having a free period right at the end of the day. She could rest from her tough AP classes and read books about architecture in the school library. She was so entranced about the different types of Greek columns that she slightly jumped when she heard thumps coming from the bookshelves behind her.
She couldn't help herself from slowly walking over to the noise and saw a guy with dark hair taking a book and haphazardly throwing it to the growing pile on the floor. She raised her eyebrows at the mess but he continued to narrow his eyes in concentration at the shelf in front of him with a cute pout on his face.
She recognized Percy's swim team hoodie and was surprised to see him here because he normally left school early. Since he hadn't noticed her, Annabeth got an idea and decided to sneak up behind him. She was a step away from him when she tapped her hands on his shoulders and yelled "BOO."
Percy's hands jerked in front of him as he screamed and knocked down books from their side to the next aisle over. The whole shelf lurched from the strength of his push and creaked as it rocked back and forth.
Annabeth doubled over in laughter when she saw the horrified face Percy made as he tried to hold the shelf from fully knocking over. Annabeth started to wheeze so hard she fell on her knees. She only barely pulled herself together when she heard a rapid clickity-clack coming towards them.
When the librarian made it over, she yelled at Percy for making a mess and causing a ruckus. Annabeth bit her fist in an attempt to muffle her laughter at the absurdity of the situation but sobered up when the librarian looked towards her.
"Annabeth dear, the floor is dirty. You shouldn't be picking up after this young man's mess. Hmph. Little boy is more like it." she muttered under her breath when she inspected the mess. "I expect everything to be back in order by the end of the day unless you want to stay after school to finish cleaning."
Percy's eyes widened and opened his mouth to object but she held her hand up to stop him. "I'm sure Coach Hedge will be more than understanding," she said with a smirk. Anyone who knows Coach Hedge knows that he does not tolerate when his swimmers are late and he is known to punish them with nonstop laps.
This only confirms Annabeth's theory of the librarian hating the male species for some unknown reason. Annabeth assumed that she only put up with Hedge if it meant that more guys would suffer in the process.
The noise of her heels walking away reminded her of where she was and looked up towards Percy to see him trying to glare at her but failed miserably. They both burst into laughter since it looked like Percy was more constipated instead of mad.
"I..I can't believe you actually did that. What did I ever do to you?"
Annabeth didn't have to think hard to answer.
"Don't act as if you're so innocent. Remember when we went ice skating with everyone for Piper's birthday. You scared me shitless and I fell down. My hips hurt just thinking about it. Oh and what about when I was walking up the stairs in the courtyard and you made me drop my English research paper into a puddle. And don't get me started about the time when you-"
"Okay fine. I get it, I deserved it. But at least we were able to print out another copy of your essay right before class but you know how coach gets when people are late though. Leo even threw up last time after swimming too much."
Annabeth rolled her eyes and muttered, "Maybe you deserve to get punished." Percy still heard her and looked at Annabeth with a glint in his eye. "I'd very much prefer it if it came from you instead, wise girl."
She held Percy's eyes for longer than she wanted to admit so she stood up to brush the dust off her knees in an attempt to focus on something else besides his enthralling sea-green eyes. Annabeth noticed Percy's smug face at her flustered face when she looked back at him again.
Not wanting to be upstaged, Annabeth ignored the butterflies in her stomach as she got real close to his face and held onto his wrist in a tight hold. Not too tight to actually hurt him but firm enough to let Percy know that she could easily overpower him in a heartbeat. With their noses just barely touching, Annabeth whispered, "Be careful about what you wish for seaweed brain."
Instantly, Annabeth stepped aside and used her leg to make him fall backward. She went down with him and used her weight to hold his chest in place with her left hand. Her right hand continued to grip his wrist as his arm landed over his head.
In this compromising position, Percy felt his face, no... his whole body warm-up at the fact that the pretty blonde was on top of him. Her ringlets acted as a curtain, blocking his view of everything in the room beside her face. As if he would want to look at anything else. Percy felt like he could stare at her for an eternity and it still wouldn't be enough time to admire everything about her.
Just as he was finally about to make a move towards her, the bell rang marking the end of the school day. Percy cursed his luck as Annabeth got up to leave but he stayed on the floor to try and calm down. In his stupor, he almost missed the teasing tone in Annabeth's voice as she said, "Bye Percy," knowing fully well that her stunt still affected him.
As he got up, Percy felt dizzy from either the fall or her charm. Most likely both. His movements were slow in putting the books back since he was still distracted. It wasn't until Percy heard a ding signaling a text from Jason that he finally picked up the pace.
Jason had asked about his whereabouts since Percy was usually the first person to be at practice. Percy had nearly pulled a muscle trying to put the books back at lightning speed, not caring that they were out of place.
Luckily for him, the pool was near the library so he had a chance of arriving on time. Thinking about the fit Coach Hedge would throw if he was late made Percy grimace. He suddenly smiled as he thought back his and Annabeth's moment back at the library. His smile turned into a grin as he thought 'Totally worth it.'
A/N: Hey this is my first time writing fanfiction so I am happily accepting constructive criticism. (No hate though please.) If you guys like it so far, please let me know. I will definitely update faster. I know this chapter isn't perfect but I have to start somewhere. Also sorry if there are any mistakes that I missed, which is very likely.
This story is most likely going to be short but I would like to write a longer one in the future. For now, I am happy with just finally posting something. With what's going on in the world, I hope this story will at least bring one person joy as I know other stories have done for me in the past.
