A/N: Hello MadaSaku lovers! For some reason, I thought MadaSaku week 2020 starts on the 20th, not on the 15th, so I am… quite late to the party. But better late than never, right? I will try to post every day for a week straight. I will post them as different stories, so I encourage you to check the site daily :) Also, I want to write 3-5 chapter for each story I am posting, so bear with me. I haven't decided yet if I will finish one story and then move to the next one or just post on the go to whichever story I feel like writing that day.

I love to read your comments; they always make my day better. So please, after reading, do let me know what you think. What did you like? What did you hate? Why do you like MadaSaku AUs?

2nd A/N:

It's been a long time since I wrote anything and it feels a bit too rushed, but that's the best I could produce at the moment. Hope you enjoy. Let me know if you think it was NOT fast-paced. Don't worry, you'll soon find out what happened to Sakura and Madara will appear in chapter 2. :)

Vocabulary:

Kumicho — top-level boss of a conglomerate

Yakuza — Japanese Mafia, also means 'good for nothing'

Onsen — Japanese bathhouse where Yakuza used to meet.

Nani — what

Kuso — shit

Sakura put the documents away and shook Sai's hand.

''Your Majesty, everything is prepared.'' Both of them bowed. The Empress had told them there was no need for such formalities when they were alone, given that Sakura and Sai were her most trusted people, but they considered it was better not to get into bad habits which might give away the true nature of their relationship. Most people thought Sakura was the nonconformist pink-haired lady that took care of the lady's appearance and Sai was the enigmatic person in charge of the secret intelligence agency. In reality, it was the other way around. Sai did, however, have military training, so he was not helpless should a critical situation arise. Not that Sakura would allow it; she was to make sure everyone around the Empress was safe, as they were usually the target of malevolent people.

''Wonderful. The country is thankful to both of you for your service. Haruno-san, do you expect any particular problems to arise? Yamanaka-san, you may retreat.''

''Thank you, Your Majesty.'' The brunet was paler than usual. It had been a while since he had been directly involved in such problems. His wife was very protective of him; he tried to stay out of trouble.

Tsunade shifted her position. The bells in her head accessories rang. It was a merry sound, contrasting the tensed atmosphere.

''There are several things that could go wrong.'' Plenty of them, actually. ''However, me and my team are doing our best to make sure our plan works out.''

Tsunade sighed. She gripped the bridge of her nouse, letting her frustration show. Sakura was one of the few people to whom she allowed herself to display any vulnerabilities. Otherwise, she had to play the untouchable empress. There were times like this when she wished she could switch places with a normal citizen. She wanted to go to sleep without worrying about an entire country. She wanted to wander around whenever she wanted, without having a team of bodyguard. She wanted one Sunday when she could just drink sake, read, and hang out with friends. At sixty, she was getting too old for this lifestyle.

''Kami, Sakura-san, I hoped you would bring me good news.'' The Empress got up from the throne. ''Come. Shizune-san, bring us some tea,'' she said to her servant. ''I want to look over those plans.'' Tsunade always wanted to be right up in the business. She didn't have to, but she preferred it that way. It was easier to control what happened when you were in the know.

Sakura followed her. They entered a smaller room, but a no less opulent one. Sakura had stopped feeling overwhelmed by the expensive decorations and all the silk a long time ago. The huge pictures hanging on the walls no longer distracted her. Not even the swords collection close to the windows attracted her. She had touched those leather and steel handles and had had the opportunity to inspect the jewellery — she had been even offered.a sharp small pocket knife with rubies. She waited for Tsunade's cue and sat down. She pulled out the papers and arranged them on the low tea-table.

''We think that they will strike here,'' she pointed a region in the north of Tokyo. ''But the city is too crowded. Many people could get hurt. So we taught it would be better to lure them here.''

''I want as few casualties as possible.''

''Here,'' she pointed to the outskirts of north Tokyo. ''It would be easier for us to corner them. There's the Ara River, but it won't pose a problem.'' Shizune entered with the tea and Sakura shifted her position. Shizune poured both of them a cup of tea and added sake to Tsunade's. Sakura took a sip to contain her grin — some things never changed, and that was good. The bitter taste of green tea was exactly what she needed. ''We are not sure, however, where their headquarter is. But that can be solved.'' Tsunade's chocolate eyes and hers met. She and the empress were very close, more so than it was socially allowed, but not even Tsunade knew everything that the pinkette was capable of or of all the lives she'd taken so far.

''I am sure it will be.'' Tsunade's brows furrowed. ''What is it that worries you, then?''

''That they won't take the bait.'' Not being in control drove her crazy. This new gang that was gaining power was as bad as the Yakuza — that was something Sakura didn't understand; why not just join the Yakuza? Had they been rejected? Did they want more independence? Unlike the Yakuza, which was mostly involved in blackmail, gambling, guns, drugs and politics, this new gang was adamant to create a ruckus. It was very un-Yakuza-like. Perhaps that was why these two did not work together. Sakura couldn't wait to get her hands on them. Lately, they were interested in sex trafficking. Sakura took great pains in creating a 'tolerance house' and spreading gossip around so that they would think they could find they easy prey there.

''Well, then let's pray they do.''

''It's too good of a chance for them to let it go, Tsunade-sama.''

''I understand that.'' The Empress' hand trembled. She looked exhausted. Sakura bit back a remark. She wasn't in the position to scold Tsunade. ''Well, it seems there's no other chance.''

''Indeed.'' Sakura pouted. ''Unless the Yakuza gets involved and these two fight each other to death.'' Wishful thinking.

''Is that a possibility?''

The Yakuza would've got involved by now if they wanted to. ''A small one.'' Not enough for her to let it be. She doubted the Yakuza would get involved unless it affected them directly and it wasn't the case. This gang was not on their territory or up in their business. She gathered the plans. Sakura didn't want to give Tsunade false hopes.

''We can't take any risks.'' Shizune entered the room and whispered something into Tsunade's ear. ''Ah, what does that old man want now?'' She rolled her eyes. ''I have to go now, Sakura-san. Let me know when the problem is solved, alright?''

Pain took off his clothes. A wave of steam hit him as soon as he entered the bath area. Sasori, Itachi, and Orochimaru were waiting for him.

''Kumicho,'' Itachi greeted him. He put his long hair back. Pain acknowledged their presence with a nod.

''Have you checked in with the new recruits, Orochimaru?''

''Yesss. They are looking forward to tonight. They know what they need to do. I informed them personally.'' His eyes got smaller and the purple tattoos around his eyes gave him a reptilian look.

''They also know what happens to those who lie to us, Pein-sama'' Sasori jumped in. ''Some of them were apprehensive, but most were excited.''

''I have already sent the letter, kumicho. Yamanaka Sai should be there on time. The recruits are not professionals, but they have been trained for abductions.'' He didn't flinch when Pein's cold eyes landed on him, his voice as steady as ever.

''Good. We need to get out hands on him. Let them know that he shall be taken to our base outside Osaka. I do not want him anywhere close to Tokyo.'' If he could, he would've flown him directly to Shanghai.

''Understood, Pein-sama. Itachi and I will talk to Zetsu and let him know he should have a room ready.''

Pein relaxed his muscles. He rested his head on the edge of the bath. They had thought out this plan carefully and worked on it for months. Sai would take the bait.

If everything worked out, they'd soon control everyone important, right up to the Empress.

''All ready?''

Under normal circumstances, she might have been at home, review papers and wait for her person in charge to call and inform her about the mission.

''Hai, Haruno-san.''

Under normal circumstances, she might have stayed back and coordinated the activity. With twenty years of activity under her belt, Sakura Haruno had had her fair share of on fieldwork.

''Haruno-san? Is Yamanaka-san supposed to be there?'' the guy pointed to a place on the screen.

Under normal circumstances, she would have been worried about spies and perhaps serial killers that the police was not able to catch on their own.

''Sai? What's he doin' there?!''

She had to deal with a new criminal organisation about which she hardly knew anything. She'd tried to catch them for months. They were very smart. But everything would end today. Sakura could count on one hand the people who had a change of outsmarting her in her job: Kakashi… oh, wait. That was it.

She couldn't wait to go home and take a bath — after she got all the information out of them. They toyed with her for so long that she wanted to personally take part in the interrogation process. She would snatch their nails and cut their tongues. She was not brutal, but she would make an exception for them.

''Car with unidentifiable numbers coming from the main street. Going full speed.''

These were not normal circumstances.'

She grabbed a second gun, an ear-microphone, and a hat.

''Sakura? What do you want to do?'' Her eyes shot up. It's been a long time since he allowed himself to be so openly close to her.

''Kakashi, if anything happens, you're in charge. Cover me.''

''Wait. What?'' He looked as if his brain stopped processing what was happening. ''You can't. They're not after Yamanaka.'' His hand was still gripping her arm. Someone in the room coughed.

He was worried. She knew. She could read him like an open book. It pained her to know she'd hurt him, but this was not the time for him to undermine her authority.

''Hatake. Hands down. If anything happens, you are in charge.'' She shook herself free. ''Keep me updated.'' She turned on the microphone and left in a hurry.

''Kami, this woman,'' Kakashi mumbled under his breath. He passed a hand through his grey her. He sat in front of the computer and put a headset on. ''Come on, people. Let's get working.'' He would not allow 'anything' to happen.

Sakura ran as fast as she could. It was something in her gut that told her she had to hurry. Sai was only a few blocks away. She picked up her phone.

''Get outta there.''

''What?''

''Now.'' She breathed heavily. She clicked something on her headset. ''Is he moving?''

''Yes. He moved around the building and took the street to the old park.''

''Sai? You're still there?

''Y-yes.''

''I need you to find a place to hide. I'll come after you. 'Kay?'' She took a shortcut. ''Kakashi, direct me.''

''Okay.'' Both of them talked at the same time. ''Turn left now until the first cross.''

''Sakura? What's going on?''

''Got that. Nothing. We just want to make sure you're safe.''

''Turn right.'' She gripped the phone tighter. ''They're going after him,'' she heard them mumble.

Fuck.

''Sai, listen up, I want you to wait for me near the fountain.'' She waited. ''Sai? Can you hear me? Nani?!'' Her phone was out of signal. ''Kakashi? Can you hear me?'' He didn't reply. ''Kuso.''

They used some cutting emission apparatus. Fuckfuckfuckfuck.

She was on her own.

Tsunade wanted to scream at the top of her lungs. She had to keep a straight and calm face for the sake of keeping up appearances. She got up and moved past Hatake. He briefly explained to her what happened, but Tsunade's brain almost stopped working after finding out that Sakura, one of her most trusted people, very capable and knowledgeable of secret matters.

This wasn't a mess.

This was a disaster of proportions.

Her long dress swept the floor. What was it that her mother always said? 'If you want to do something well, get a team; if you want to do something excellently, get working'? Her bracelets clinked. Shizune opened her door. She stopped before the threshold. She talked without looking back. She didn't see Kakashi's shoulders falling, the shaky breath he let out, or his grimace.

''For now, Hatake-san, you're in charge.''
