Hey everyone, this is my first ever attempt at a story. I started this cause I wanted to get better at writing stories since its so much fun. The story takes place throughout the entire series, with no changes other than minor plot points and dialogue. I had a lot of fun rewatching RWBY while conceptualizing it. This chapter takes place from Ruby's POV and starts on the airship to beacon. Chapter 2 will take place during the Emerald Forest, and Chapter 3 will take place the groups first day at beacon but after that the chapters wont be day by day. Ruby was… absolutely terrified. She had spent the last several minutes of the airship ride from Vale City to Beacon Academy stressing about teammates, hoping she would seem mature for her age to the other students, and finding the right words to describe the feeling that had sat itself in her chest the moment she said goodbye to her father and stepped onto the airship. The only thing keeping her together was her sister who was attending beacon at the same time she was. Ruby heard a voice getting louder and louder penetrating her deep state of thinking until she blinked and realized she was being talked to. "Ruby?" the voice of her sister said "you good?" it asked with a sense of worry. Ruby turned to face the taller, slightly older, blonde girl and said "Yeah, I'm just really deep in thought". Thankfully her sister understood and laughed "I'm gonna use the bathroom since we still have a few minutes left til we get there" she said patting Ruby's head and walking past her. She watched Yang walk out of sight and turned back to the window, she quietly wondered to herself if she was really worthy of going to beacon early.
She stood there for a few more seconds deep in thought until she noticed a girl with snow white hair and skin that matched it. She began to wonder what kingdom she was from, around Atlas she determined quickly. She knew she was staring a little bit but couldn't tear her eyes away, something about the light around her face, her slightly off center ponytail, and her white combat skirt filled Ruby's stomach with butterflies. Finally she pulled her eyes away and started blushing at the thought of her getting a girlfriend here, she also hadn't really thought about girls that way so it was a little weird to her, yeah there had been cute girls back at signal but none of them ever made her stomach fill with butterflies on sight and she'd never considered dating them.
Ruby couldn't shake the blush for some reason and after a few more seconds her sister came back "What's got you all flustered" she said wrapping her arm around her sister "see a cute boy for yourself?" she asked with a mischievous grin. Ruby took a deep breath and responded "No, a girl does" her sister's grin faded a little and she said "Huh, didn't think you swung that way Rubes, welcome to the club" Ruby smiled a bit at the last part of the sentence "I didn't think I did either to be honest but" she looked around to see if she could see the girl that had gotten her all flustered "I don't see her anymore" she finished with a confused look. "Guess I'll just take your word for it for now" her sister said with another smile as Ruby began to stare out the window again.
The ship landed gently and the two sisters begun to get off. "I'm gonna go catch up with some friends, Ill find you at the opening ceremony" Yang said before running off leaving Ruby alone. Ruby decided to focus on finding a quiet place to wait until the opening ceremony and begun to not really pay attention to what was going on around her. She would suddenly be snapped back to reality when she quite literally ran into somebody causing both parties and all of the luggage for the two of them to fall to the ground. Ruby heard glass break and sat up to see the girl from the airship was the person she had run into and was now standing over her furious. "You Idiot" she hissed making a sound that almost sounded some of the 'singing' in a few of those songs some of her friends at Signal liked. "Do you have any idea how much money dust cost?" she asked with the same hissed tone "and now you've broken a whole suitcase full of it and released it into the air" she said. Ruby quickly stood up and began to apologize as something tickled her nose, she couldn't help but sneeze but to her surprise the dust in the air and the sneeze created an explosion of fire, ice, and a little lighting too. The sudden explosion knocked Ruby back onto the ground as the other girl began screaming again but this time she wasn't listening. The other girl went, picked up her things, and left Ruby laying there, after a few seconds a shadow stood over her and reached a hand to help her up
Ruby took the hand and pulled herself up to see the person who had come to aid her, It was a guy, not much taller than herself, blonde hair, and white armor. "you okay" he asked with genuine concern. "Yeah, lets go somewhere quiet" Ruby responded. The two of them walked until they found a hill that led to the river that outlined the perimeter of the main part of the school. Ruby sat down on the hill close to the water and pulled her knees close to her body. The person who had helped her up sat down next to her "What's your name?" he asked. "Ruby, Ruby Rose, whats yours?" she asked in response. "Jaune Arc" he said back. "Thanks back there Jaune" Ruby said "I probably would've just laid there until the opening ceremony" She finished with a small chuckle.
The two sat making pleasant conversation until it was time for the opening ceremony where Ruby and Jaune went their separate ways. Ruby walked up to her sister and was greeted "Hey sis, how's your first day been" Yang asked with a smile "Awful, I ran into the pretty girl from the airship, broke a bunch of stuff, exploded, and got yelled at" Ruby responded with a long sigh afterward. Before Yang could respond Ruby heard an angry voice say "You" from behind her, she jumped and stepped behind Yang "Do you have any idea how hard it is to clean fire dust off a suitcase without creating an explosion?" Yang look back to her sister "Oh my god you actually exploded" she said in disbelief. "Do you two know each other?" the white haired girl said in a bossy tone, "Yeah" Yang said "This is my sister Ruby, and I'm Yang" Ruby giving a small wave from behind her sister. "Well Ruby, Yang, I'm Weiss Schnee heiress to the Schnee Dust Company" Weiss said with another bossy tone "Your sister ran into me and broke an entire suitcase of dust and then sneezed causing it to detonate which could've blown us off the cliff" she finished giving Ruby a glare that frightened the girl "I said sorry" Ruby said shyly from behind her sister. Weiss sighed "Just pay attention to the things around you better" she said before walking off. "Well I can see why you found her attractive" Yang said when she was out of earshot, "Yeah but I'm pretty sure I ruined any chance I had with her" Ruby said with a sigh "Oh come on" Yang said in response "Its been one day, you've got all year to make things up" she finished with a smile as the opening ceremony started
