Slipping into the shadow, the bluenette held her breath, trying to still her pounding heart. A pungent smell hit her nose and she gagged
" Of course it had to be near the dustbin " she grumbled under her breath
Hearing footsteps approaching, she stiffens and crouches lower trying to make use as much cover the shadow could provide. Hand reaching for her anesthesia dart gun on instinct, she ready to fire it at first sight of trouble
" She not here "She heard her chasers said gruffly, a few feet away from her. There was a loud and rush argument on her whereabouts before the pair walk away in another direction
As the footstep draw further and further, she relaxes, loosening her grip on the gun. Waiting for a few more minutes and hearing nothing, she decided it safe
" That was close " she mumbles, stepping out of her hiding place. Attention turning toward the blueprint she had stolen, Dawn can't help but smirk
" wait till Cynthia see this "
Pressing the wireless earbud, she spoke
" Hey Drew, mission accomplished, send May over to pick me up right now "
"What the blueprint about ?"
" It contains the data of a new technology we just invented, I can't tell you the full detail it as it confidential but it very powerful "
"Well if it is that powerful, you should have done your job better", Ash thought to himself irritably, still he has to remain professional and ask the routine question
" And how was the blueprint stolen? "
"I have no idea " the security guard answered, looking both guilty and ashamed at his failure " I ran toward the blueprint as soon as the alarm rang but by the time I reach, the culprit is already making a break for it "
"I see " Ash commented, noting down some point in his notebook " and have you had a clear view of the culprit?"
" No, it was dark and she was making use of the shadow to hide, we tried going through the CCTV recording but someone had sabotaged the footage "
At the guard's reply, Ash raised an eyebrow " you say she ?"
" Yup it was dark but it clearly a female "
" A female huh " Clicking his pen shut, the police officer narrows his eye at the unexpected piece of news " this is starting to get interesting "
Eye scanning through the scene again, Ash commanded " tell me more about the security measure implemented here and how you think she manages to bypass them"
" What did you do ?!"
At Cynthia hash tone and glare, Dawn grimace
" But you say you wanted the blueprint " she try to justify her action
" That I did, but I didn't ask you to go on this mission! What were you thinking ?!"
" Well you see " Dawn begins in a haste
" I don't wanna hear it "Cynthia interrupted
Ignoring Cynthia word she continues " I didn't want to go "
" now I gotta hear it " Cynthia commented annoyed
"But Misty had to go on this mission yesterday and you kind of assign her this mission forgetting she had another mission on hand. Drew ask me to take over, So if anything it kind of your fault " she concludes and immediate flinch when Cynthia Sharp glare settle on her
"Say that again "
The challenge in the leader's voice make Dawn back down at once " I take that back "
Taking a seat and hiding her face in her hand, Cynthia tries to compose herself. Silence filled the room as the leader was pondering how to deal with her trainee and Dawn know better than to interrupt the lady when she in a foul mood
" I will speak to Drew too later but you know why we don't let you out on mission yet right? You are still training, you could be hurt or be in serious trouble. You already are in trouble actually " Cynthia break the silence after a few tense minutes
" what you mean by that " among the statement it was the last one that caught Dawn attention
" Come here " Cynthia instructed, gesturing toward the computer screen in front of her " take a look "
Following Cynthia gesture, Dawn face the computer and saw a clear live footage playing of the place she just infiltrated
" The police are on the case already " Cynthia clarify
That explains the multiple police at the scene. Most were patrolling the area or searching for a clue but the raven hair detective currently questioning the security guard is the one that concerns her
" The raven hair guy is the lead detective, isn't he? What do you know about him ?"
" Drew, what have you got on the raven hair detective? The one that currently questioning the security guard " Cynthia ask through her speaker communicator on her table
" Give me a moment " the residential hacker reply came immediately " I'm trying to establish a remote connection to the police ... got it ! his name is Ash Ketchum, 25-year-old and he the lead detective on the case. Solve a few major cases the short time he was a police officer ... could be trouble "
" Right thank you Drew, and I want to speak to you later too "
"In my defense, you say you need the blueprint today and there was no available agent and you know Dawn stubborn so really it not my ... "
Shutting the communicator amidst Drew explanation Cynthia Fix her attention back on Dawn and prompt " now what are you gonna do about it "
"Is it that bad if he figures out it is me? I mean we are not exactly doing illegal thing "
" you know as well as I do we have to remain in incognito, this is why I want to send Misty In the first place. she would not have sounded the alarm and ensure the blueprint is switched so no one will know a thing " Cynthia snapped
Frustrated but the current situation leaving her with no argument ground ( she did screw up with the alarm ). Dawn could only offer a weak excuse with an equally weak smile " well I think I still did a pretty decent job, I did manage to get the blueprint and I don't think I left any evidence there that will point to me "
Tired of arguing, Cynthia choose not to point out that a decent job won't include the police " in any case I will ask Drew to keep an eye out and make sure the detective does not have a single lead on you "
" Right " Dawn affirm, eyeing the screen again, she focuses on the raven hair detective looking around carefully, a thoughtful expression on his face
Ash Ketchum huh? Look like I will be getting to know you pretty well from now on, let see what you are made of ... Catch me if you can
" You are dismissed "Cynthia's voice brought her out of her musing. After a quick nod of acknowledgment, she makes her way out of the office
Before she could take a step out of the door tough, Cynthia's voice rang loud and clear
" And just so we are on the same page. One more unauthorized mission and you are out of here, are we clear on that ?"
Her tone highlights the leader serious take on this matter and Dawn could only gulp and reply
" Crystal clear "
Watching her trainee finally stepping out of the office, Cynthia rub her aching spot on her forehead
She won't ever admit it but she adores the blue hair girl but the girl defiance nature and her habit of getting into trouble is really testing her some time
" Teenager ... and people wonder why I have to be so strict all the time "
