Changes: Mudclaw didn't lead a revolt when he did, he just slowly turned his clanmates against Onestar by spreading rumors and appealing to his clanmates' emotions.

Prologue: The Muddy Truth

Mudclaw had trouble keeping the victorious gleam out of his eyes, but judging by the shocked gasps and panicked murmurs of his clanmates, he put on a rather convincing mask. He gently laid the body of his leader- his former leader- down on the sandy ground of the WindClan camp, which was tainted a reddish-orange due to the sunset behind him. He looked up, taking note of the imploring, shocked gazes of his clanmates, and then realized Morningflower, the oldest elder in the clan, was limping towards him, a dismal glint in her dark green eyes.

"...How did it happen... he was so young...How?" The molly murmured, her brows creased in thought. Mudclaw dipped his head to her, and prepared to explain, enjoying how natural it felt to address these cats like a leader. He cleared his throat and spoke:

"Cats of WindClan, I was asked this sunhigh by my leader to walk with him to discuss the business of WindClan. However, we soon began to argue, as I'm sure you all know, Onestar often took the... soft way with politics. I presented to him the views of my clanmates, but, I'm sure as you can all smell on his fur, a fox was attracted by our fierce arguing... I attempted to save our leader's life, but... the fox was too quick. It snapped his neck, and then subsequently killed him whenever he came back to life. I was left no choice but to hide, as the vile thing surely would have slaughtered me too if I hadn't..."

Mudclaw hung his head in mock shame.

"I feel that I have failed to protect our leader, and for that I am so, so sorry to you all." He sighed, shoulders sagging. He then quickly stood up, shaking his head as if he had awoken from a dream. He jumped onto the Windrock, a large boulder with a flat top that looked over the camp.

"However, we mustn't lose hope of our future. As I have emphasized before many times, Onestar's ideals, while in the best interest for the clan, inadvertently endangered us all. What will become of us when the next Brokenstar or Tigerclaw stomps all over our clan. Do we, as proud WindClanners, deserve to be pushed around by the other clans, while we turn a deaf ear and a blind eyes to their mockery of our customs, our morals, our way of life, all the while they break our sacred rules and steal our prey from under our very noses?!"

Mudclaw noticed the interest in most of his clanmate's faces and the excited murmurs, urging him to continue. He felt confident in what he was going to propose next, no matter how outrageous it might sound to a select few cats.

"Absolutely not!" Mudclaw bellowed, his yowl echoing across the moor, "We are the clan of the wind; our ancestors run with us in the very air we breath, we have made numerous allies with the hawks and eagles here, we follow the warrior code to a tee, and we are as fast as a lightning bolt in a thunderstorm! Do those sound like qualities to be insulted?!"

A thunderous roar of agreement made its way to the brown tabby's ears. He finally let a grin slip from his careful mask, concealing a truth that his clanmates have no business knowing.

"No! We are the warriors of the moors! We are putting our paw down right now, and declaring war on those deriding insults and poorly concealed code breaking! As it stands now, the other clans are no more than rouges who act morally righteous and superior while acting willy-nilly with the warrior code!"

Mudclaw then turned his focus to a code-breaker in their very midst.

"Crowfeather!" He roared, catching the dark gray tom off guard. The tabby flexed his claws, wishing he could claw out the tom's eyes right now.

"You have interloped with the medicine cat of ThunderClan, and almost ran away with her to sate your lust for her! We will not stand by this, you heathen! We are honorable cats, and while Onestar may have allowed this to go unpunished, I will not follow in his pawsteps! From now on, you are simply a rouge in our eyes, a stranger who does not belong with us!"

At this, the clan went wild. Jeers and taunts spread like wildfire, coming from almost every cat. Crowfeather spun around wildly, hackles raised and eyes wide. Fianlly, his eyes found his mate, Nightcloud. He placed a tentatively paw towards her, only to be taken aback when she suddenly hissed at him. Nightcloud's eyes trailed to the brown tabby on the Windrock and saw Mudclaw smirk and nod in approval.

"Crowfeather!" She growled, pressing her muzzle into his face, "You have barely paid attention to me or your own son ever since you got back from frolicking with pretty medicine cats or dead warriors of the river! I'm not normally one to judge, but you... you have never been loyal to your clan! Your interests are so sporadic that I can barely tell if you even belong in a clan! You can not turn to me to defend you, Crowfeather, because I will state this loud and clear:"

Nightcloud unsheathed her claws, digging them into the ground and she bared her teeth.

"You will never be apart of my WindClan! Go try some past lover's clan, if they can even accept you at this point!"

Mudclaw nodded over the yowls of agreement, flicking his tail for silence.

"Well said, Nightcloud." He then turned to the dark furred warrior, a nasty sneer on his face.

"Anything to say for yourself, traitor?"

Crowfeather narrowed his eyes at the light brown tabby.

"You know what, yes. If you're just going to stir up an unnecessary clan war and waste valuable lives on pointless bloodshed, then I don't even want to be apart of this clan anymore! You all have your heads so far up your own asses that you can't see what kind of damage this'll do!" He spat with rage, before turning tail and bolting out of the camp entrance.

Mudclaw flicked an ear, before turning a cool gaze back to his clanmates.

"Alright then, meeting dismissed."

As the new leader leaped off the Windrock and talked to Barkface, a lone spirit watched his clan unseen. His yellow eyes were sad, but tinged with anger. He looked up to the stars, sighing heavily as he started to float up to StarClan.

"Fools. If only they knew..." He uttered angrily, before fading entirely.
