Summary

Erik is a deformed changeling troll swapped by his parents for the blond, blue-eyed Raoul de Chagny. Unloved and unhappy, Erik runs away and bumps into another boy on his own adventure to the de Chagny castle...

(A mix of Leroux and Kay, and probably a pinch of my own headcannons)

Author's note

This is a first time for me to post stories through here, so I'd hate to say I might just flake out and scrap this project all together. I'm not a very committed person when it comes to slow burn fanfiction.

I gotta give kudos to a couple of authors here that inspired me to come up with this in the first place, as well as Gaston Leroux for the characters being used here.

And lastly, I hope I don't disappoint anyone! Wish my anxious grasshopper feet not to jump so high.

Not-so little Morgessa sat down in a cold and dark cavern buried deep underground, patiently waiting for her father to come and tell her that nightfall has come. To herβ€”the night is the dawn of a new day, for her kind cannot step into the sunlight and feel its gentle warmth. And so Jontar trolls like her have adapted to their senses to the darkness. Their glowing eyes, heightened sense of smell and hypersensitive ears were all products of natural selection. Not that they would know of, of course.

Morgessa idly sharpened her arrows, for tonight she will join her family in hunting. It will be her first time going outside, as it was customary for Jontar children under the age of thirteen to stay inside the burrow. Her birthday ceremony had not been so long ago, so she was in the central attention of the pack. Her younger brothers and sisters had begged her to bring gifts from the surface with her, while her elder siblings had been proudly teaching her how to properly wield a spear or club.

She had liked this sudden attention.

Morgessa wasn't at all like her obnoxious and loud family. And nor did she ever shared their fascination with bloodlust and raw strength. In fact, because of this is why her own uncle had been killed. Her mother once told her a story about how she was almost left for dead if it weren't for her challenging her brother to a duel. This had unsettled her for a bit, but nonetheless only strengthened her resolve to fit in and truly become a part of the pack.

She has been waiting for this very moment to shine and prove herself. And she won't let herself come back home empty-handed.
