The day was May 22nd, 1998. The sky was filled with Ash on this Quiet Spring night. A gentle breeze rang through as the screaming stopped. The bloodshed was over as the sun began to rise.
9 Years Later….
Beep. Beep. Beep…..
"Ugh." said a somewhat high-pitched voice. Nathan Allen rose from his Bed, and sat at the edge. He turned on his lamp on his nightstand, next to his bed. He was of fairly average build, a normal enough face, and Nice Light Brown hair that didn't go too far, and was parted to the right. Just like How Nathan liked it. He realized today was the day he was going back to Hogwarts for his Fifth Year. "Yay" thought Nathan. The stress and anxiety of being in school with hundreds of morons didn't seem like something he wanted to deal with till December, and then till Easter, and then till next summer. Seemed like an eternity away. This year seemed even worse, as the OWL's probably wouldn't help with his increasing stress of the coming work he would be loaded with in preparation for the Exams.
"Sweetie, are you done packing?" called Nathan's Mom, Nora, from the kitchen. Nathan quickly got cleaned up and then dressed in a Simple gray t-shirt, brown jacket and jeans. Nathan lived with his Mother and Sister. His Sister, Jessica was a Hufflepuff, and was two years ahead of him. She would always try to ask him for help with Her Homework, and he always begrudgingly tried to help. Nathan's Mom was his only parent left, as his Father had died in The Battle Of Hogwarts, along with so many others. That battle had influenced so much of these last few years. It had brought so much pain, and so much change. Nathan thought of why the Wizarding community of Britain had to deal with so much in so little time.
Nathan got up from bed and walked down the hallway into the small granite kitchen space. Nathan's Mother was Tall, and had nice blond hair, and wore a simple pale green dress with an apron. She looked quite young for her age. Nathan sat at the small table in the center of his kitchen, while his Mom made some breakfast. Nathan could smell the nice scent of bacon and eggs. Nora slid a plate of food in front of him and said, "Eat. as soon as you and your sister Triple-check your bags we will drive to Kings Cross. If Jessica is up by now we'll be on time. Can you see if she's up?" Nathan stood up and began to walk back towards his room and looked right, seeing Jessica's door. He knocked and said, "You Up Yet? Mom's in a real hurry." the door opened, and a very pretty but tired looking brunette girl stood, still clad in pajamas. She said, "Calm Down, Little bro. I've got everything ready." Jessica slammed the door, leaving Nathan confused. He walked back to the kitchen, sat down at the table, and resumed eating. After eating, he went back to his room and laid his trunk back on his bed. He made sure all of his clothes, school supplies, and everything else was nice and olderly. His desk was in the corner, as well as a bookshelf that he used to collect all of his favorite novels. Some Framed photos lay on a shelf above his desk. He picked one up. It was a photo of him and his father on the beach, taken on Crosby beach, many years ago when he was still an infant.
His Father had been a handsome man, he had a nice bushy mustache, and looked generally full of life, he held baby Nathan in his arms. He wondered how much had changed since then. The waves behind him looked serene next to the happy family scene. Many people's Parents had been Killed during the Battle of Hogwarts. Their Sacrifices had not been in Vain, as the Wizarding World felt like a brighter place according to his Mother. He remembered when mysterious men in Blue robes showed up that sad spring night. His mother cried for hours, she had never truly recovered since then. His Sister and him had to rely on each other since birth. His Family had never been very wealthy. His mother had to balance two jobs just to balance the high fees of being a Student of Hogwarts.
He put the photograph down and brought his trunk back through the kitchen and living room, and out the front door. The soft breeze hit his face as he walked out onto the driveway and to his Mom's Gray SUV. Nathan's house was modest, small compared to others he knew, his neighborhood was quiet this morning, even at 10:00 AM, his country was still waking up. He opened the back of his car and stuffed the trunk behind the front seat, but made sure his sister would be able to move back if she wanted. His mother opened the screen door, and stepped out. She was now wearing a nice sweater and scarf over her dress. The Calm Chill of the fall day was good for that sort of style. Jessica stumbled out behind her, lugging her trunk clumsily behind her. She wore Simple jeans and a fuzzy light blue sweater. The family of three piled into the car, and made their way to Kings Cross. "Now, you will write every week, and if you don't i will send a howler." said Nora. Jessica responded, "Mom, our lives aren't even that eventful to fill a letter every week. What about every two weeks?" Nora looked at her with that sort of motherly glare that scares all kids. "Ok, i'll write every week, and i will be sure to fill an entire roll of parchment."
Platform Nine and Three Quarters was just as packed and frantic as last year. Jessica and Nathan had said their Goodbyes to their Mom, and boarded the train. Nathan stood by the front of the Coach, and waved at his Mother as the Train departed the station, he suddenly felt sad, as he knew this year would be just as much if not more Painful than the last. Jessica had already left to join her friends, so He wandered through the train, car by car. People crowded through, trying to move through the train just as he was. A compartment next to him opened, and he was dragged in, and landed in a seat next to someone, and saw as his friend, John Slughorn, sittingt across from him. "Why the Hell did you pull me in the compartment?" John was related to Professor Slughorn, head of Slytherin house. He had Curly blonde hair, and wore glasses. His Clothing reflected the Wealthy Lifestyle he had been brought up in. "It wasn't my idea. It was Oliver."
Oliver Longbottom was a Relative of Professor Longbottom, who taught Herbology. His Smooth black hair was something everyone knew him for. He was quite athletic, and was the only Quidditch Player Nathan could stand. Nathan hated Quidditch. He hated the Competition, how riled up people would get about something as simple as a game. He really only went to the games to cheer on Oliver. "Did you Clowns get your Summer Homework done?" Said Nathan. John was perplexed, "Well, Obviously." Nathan saw how Oliver looked away at that question. Nathan and John stared at him questioningly. Oliver crossed his arms and said, "I got it all done...well, at least like Ninety Percent. Last Night." Nathan laughed, and John snickered. they felt bad for him, but at the same time it was hilarious.
The three Fifth Year Gryffindor Boys talked about just about everything just to pass the time. They told stories, mainly Oliver talked about this Girl he had been seeing since Early July. Nathan really didn't believe in the whole "Love" thing. In his Fifteen Years of Life he had never had any sort of experience that Oliver had always loved to brag about. He didn't see the appeal of Girls. John was persistent that he would help tutor Oliver for the OWL's so he wouldn't fail. Nathan knew that if he wasn't helped, Oliver would surely fail. He also knew that John just wanted the best for his friend. The sun began to set as the Train got closer to Hogwarts. They all changed into their Robes, and got their things ready so they could depart easily. The Night Sky was serene, and looked beautiful against the light inside the train. The crescent moon shone dimly behind the clouds. Seeing the starry night sky against the beautiful Countryside greatly improved his mood. He was glad he was with his friends. He didn't know how he would have gotten through school without the helpfulness of John, or the Uplifting nature of Oliver. His compartment door opened loudly with a slam, and the last person he ever wanted to see stood in front of the doorway. Joseph Abbot.
Nathan had hated Joseph since the first moment they met. They met 3 years ago. Nathan was in his Second Year. he was simply sitting one nice Spring day, alone under a tree, Reading a Nice Novel his mother had given him for his Birthday. He saw as a very good looking, Tall, somewhat athletic Red haired Boy and his Goons walked up to him. He put the book down and said straight to the leader of the group, "What?" Joseph snatched his book and held it up. Nathan rose and said, "Hey! Give it back!" Joseph seemed like a giant compared to Nathan. He was at least 4 inches taller than him. Joseph pushed him over with ease. Joseph smirked, "Prisoner of Desire? What are you, a Fag?" Nathan stared at this Bully with contempt, he wanted to do unspeakable things to him, he wanted Joseph to regret ever speaking to him. Joseph noticed his angry glare and snickered in such a way that made Nathan's blood boil. The Beautiful Sunny Day was turned into a nightmare on earth for the poor Boy. The Bully threw the Hardcover book so hard at Nathan's head, it made him feel dizzy, he felt nauseous. The sun shone through the trees, blinding him even further. He could hear a muffled "Let me have him" as someone grabbed his shirt and threw him back on the hard ground. He could barely feel a thing as Joseph began to swing. Every single punch was felt less than the last. He woke up in the hospital wing, surrounded by John and Oliver. Joseph only got two months in detention for the assault. Nathan felt forever scarred by this incident, it always came back to him when he thought about or saw Joseph.
Nathan glared as Joseph smirked at him, and he saw as Joseph's eyes wandered through the compartment, analyzing all three of the residents of the space in front of him. He had always messed with Nathan and his friends, and was always accompanied by Brock Kent, a brutish, muscular kid, who was genuinely good at heart, but hanging out with Joseph had not allowed him to show that side of himself, he always looked guilty when he saw Joseph mistreating people, which happened quite a lot. Joseph threw back his hair and drifted his glare back to Nathan. "Hey Nate, how you been holding up?" he said. Nathan hated being called that. "I would appreciate it if you could leave me and my friends alone." He said. "You Know, I've always thought you considered me your friend, I'm so disappointed now. I'm sure this year we can be close pals again. Maybe you could let me hang out with you and your faggot friends, oh that's right, i probably don't want to get any diseases." Joseph said. He grinned evilly, then winked at Nathan and then slammed the compartment door, leaving Nathan's blood boiling as the station began to come into sight through the window. Oliver woke up with a yawn and stretched. "What did I miss?" he said. "Be glad you weren't awake." said Nathan, still clearly Upset, and on the verge of tears, his face was as red as the Gryffindor Crest. John was worried about his friend, and wanted to console him. He knew Joseph had been a constant issue since they had met in Second Year. Joseph constantly pestered and annoyed Nathan all the time. Through all the constant harassment, bullying, judgement, and everything else, John was perplexed at how Nathan was able to keep going. He was certainly stronger than anyone he knew. The train skidded to a halt in front of the station with a loud screech. Nathan could hear compartment doors opening as people began to shuffle out of the train loudly, and people crudely pushed each other aside to leave the train. Nathan hated big crowds, especially big crowds of kids.
Nathan, John, and Oliver boarded one of the Wooden carriages, and enjoyed the nice, calm ride through the forest up to the castle. The calm breeze calmed Nathan down, and the presence of his friends made him feel better after the Confrontation with Joseph. Nathan and his Friends sat down near the middle of the Gryffindor table in the great hall, and greeted their acquaintances that they would be seeing every day for the entire school year. The great hall's Beautiful, spacious interior was gorgeous. Especially the floating candles that hovered above the body of students. The Collected Students mingled in their house tables as usual. Nathan glanced towards the Table in front of the hall which seated all of the Professors and Headmistress Mcgonagal, who was standing at the owl podium, ready to give the annual start-of-year Announcements, as well as sorting the new First Years. Nathan was glad to see the Happy looks of the children being sorted and finding their place among the Spacious Student body. The announcements were always The same old rubbish. Nathan waved at Professor Longbottom, who was one of his favorite teachers, he was always kind and fair to his Students, and in a subject like herbology, Patience was needed. Nathan saw Joseph, near the front of the table. Joseph noticed his glare, and returned it with a mischievous smile. Nathan looked away, and began to eat as the feast was served to the hungry students. Nathan listened to the avid conversations of his fellow Gryffindors, he didn't feel like talking tonight, he just wanted to relax after everything. After the feast, Nathan went towards the Gryffindor Common room, hoping to get some good rest before the trials and tribulations of tomorrow started. He walked through the stone corridors along with the rest of the gryffindors until he found the all too familiar portrait of the Fat Lady. someone in front of him muttered the new password. He overheard a prefect say the new Password was "Pendulum"
Nathan now sat in his bed in the dormitories, he was already in his pajamas, and was laying down, reading a book. Oliver was already asleep, and John was writing something in one of his notebooks, his bed was to the right of Nathan's. "What are you gonna do as soon as you leave Hogwarts?" said John. "I'm Not Sure Yet. i might become something like an Auror, or i could also go for any job in the Department of Magical law enforcement. I never want something like what happened to my Father to ever happen again." Nathan responded. John felt sad he asked something that warranted such an emotional response. John said "I'll probably end up as a Caretaker, or Gamekeeper, or.." Nathan interrupted him, "You're so much more gifted than that, man." he said. John said with a grin, "Did you just insult the profession of Gamekeeping? What would Hagrid say?" Nathan laughed, and said "Goodnight you clown."
