{One-Shot}

They sat silently on the arched Papu palm tree.

Out of the corner of her eye, she looked over at Sora, who was looking out at the sea.

He grinned contentedly and the wind played with his hair.

She smiled at the sight and yet a lump formed in her throat that she could not swallow.

She couldn't put the burgeoning emotions floating around in her head into words.

Was it because they were alone on the beach of fate and watched the sunset together?

Yes, it was sometimes one of the reasons she didn't dare break the silence between them.

Kairi knew exactly why she was getting so hot and cold at the same time.

Why she was more nervous around him than usual and deliberately changed the topics in a group as soon as they were mentioned together.

She was hopeless and madly in love with Sora for a very, very long time.

One might think that after a certain time, such feelings will subside if they are not returned. But it wasn't like that. Not for Kairi, on the contrary.

When she thought about it that way, that feeling intensified inside her.

She thought back to the festival in Corona when they danced with Eugene and Rapunzel in the marketplace.

When, as usual, he gave her a broad and happy smile and asked her to dance.

How he turned her in circles and felt his big, warm hands on her hip and on her hand. His touches were almost like fire, she was always so warm.

That day he exuded so much happiness and happiness that he infected other people with it.

She herself had been overjoyed that day. Just being by your side without having to think directly about heartless or nobody. She felt free and weightless, not only because Sora had lifted her up, but because Xehanort had finally been defeated.

Kairi also remembered the day when it did not look good for her for a moment and almost had to personally beg for her life from Master Xehanort. Her fingers clenched unconsciously at the memory.

Luckily, Sora acted at the right moment and freed her from the clutches of Xehanort before suffocating from lack of oxygen.

She noticed how charged and furious Sora looked as she gasped and glared at his enemy.

That he made threats to Xehanort was more than understandable, but she had never heard him swear and see him in rage like that day.

And only because Xehanort had attacked them. Neither did she get those sad and worried eyes from Sora that she caught when he asked about her.

But above all, she remembered the beautiful and moving moments she shared with Sora.

From childhood days until today. Her eyes peeked at him again furtively and she found that he was also looking at her or looking directly at her.

"Are you okay, Kairi?" He asked her caringly instead and in response he received a quick nod on her part.

"I'm glad," he grinned at her, as so often, with his charming smile and looked away from her again. However, she continued to stare at him out of the corner of her eye. Almost languishing, you could say.

Kairi then looked ahead. From the sun you could only see a little corner and the first glowworms were already shining lightly around her.

She swallowed hard and dared to slide a little closer to him.

She had her eyes on the floor. She took a deep breath and narrowed her eyes briefly.

"Sora?"

Listening, he turned his attention to her.

"Yes?"

Nervously she gripped the hem of her dress and her eyes were still on the floor.

"I..." she started hesitantly, and a sigh escaped her throat.

"It's nice, isn't it?"

She changed the subject after all and looked out over the open sea. The sun had already set and bathed the clouds in a shimmering purple. Following her gaze, Sora nodded weakly.

"Yes. That is it," He confirmed her and disappointed in himself, let her shoulders sag.

"Kairi."

"Yes, Sora?", Then hopefully she looked at him and found that he had clasped his hands together.

The fireflies that buzzed in the air created a pleasant atmosphere and made their faces shine brightly every now and then.

"Honestly, I don't know how to tell you," Sora started and turned her thumb as the redhead tried to figure him out.

"What? You can tell me everything. That's what friends are for. "

"That's it," he said groaning and scratching his head.

"I want to be honest with you." He turned to her and gently took her hands in his.

She looked at him perplexed and nodded weakly. Her cheeks took on a slight shade of red.

"I ... I ..." he hesitated and ran his tongue over his dry lips.

"Never mind… it was... not that important anyway," he said shortly afterwards and let go of her hands. Kairi grabbed his hands again from the emotion and looked at her in surprise.

"Kairi?"

"Do you know the feeling that your body suddenly becomes as hot as if you have a fever or as cold as if you have chills?"

It burst out uncertainly and both stared intensely into the eyes. Nobody dared to break eye contact.

"That your heart starts to race as fast as if you had run a marathon?" Sora nodded her head barely and took the floor herself.

"Or does your heart contract painfully when the person closest to you is hurt on the floor?" Kairi pressed her lips tightly together and blinked a few tears as she nodded in agreement.

After that, they only looked at each other silently, only their eyes spoke volumes.

Sora finally brought her hands to his chest and put them there.

She could feel the fast heartbeat weakly through his shirt and it was no different when he tenderly gripped her face with his hands. He leaned his forehead against hers and the tips of her noses just touched.

They stayed in this position for half a minute and just stared at each other like in a competition.

"Sora-"

"I love you, Kairi," he interrupted her in a slightly rough and flat voice. The lump that had formed in her throat swallowed her and widened her stunned eyes. Her mouth opened a crack. Without waiting for an answer from her, he closed the distance between her lips and tilted his head sideways. A little surprised, Kairi accepted it and pressed her lips to him. Her fingers gripped his upper part. It made her feel hot inside, as if she were practically on fire and a thousand fireworks were lit at the same time. The kiss was short-lived, and they left each other as if stunned.

Sora lost her balance and fell backwards from the tree.

"Sora!"

Startled, she slid down the tree and knelt to the young man.

"Are you all right?"

Lying on his back, he looked at her and closed one eye.

"Ow…yeah, everything is good. You're just stunning," he complimented and grinned from ear to ear.

His attempt to flirt apparently succeeded when her cheeks turned a threatening shade of red and she playfully pushed him against his arm.

"You charmer," she said weakly and smiled cheerfully. Both then laughed out loud and enjoyed the proximity of the other.

When Sora made no move to get up, she lay down next to him and stared into the starry night sky.

"I feel the same way," she admitted in a whisper, but he understood her.

"I noticed that," he countered cheekily and turned his head to her side. He looked her in the eye.

Her face was almost like an overripe tomato, which he could see thanks to the fireflies.

"You're mean," she pouted, pouting and searching the sandy ground to take his hand.

When she wrapped it around contentedly, she turned her eyes to the sky. He did the same and the fireflies danced cheerfully above them.

"Sora?"

"Yes?"

" Thank you, "

Sora blinked in confusion.

"For what?

"For everything," she replied softly, and a grin played around the corner of her mouth.

Instead of returning her, he smiled and there was a pleasant silence for a short moment until she sat up and looked down at him.

He looked at her questioningly.

"Is everything ok?"

He did not finish his sentence, he was too overwhelmed for that and only because she kissed him on the forehead.

"Yes. Now everything is okay," she assured him tentatively and Sora sat cross-legged next to her.

A lascivious grin spread across his face and a firefly flew past their faces, which made Kairi's heartbeat faster.

Kairi then looked past Sora and her eyes caught on the main island.

"We should slowly return home, Sora," Kairi said, nodding in confirmation as she stood up. He gave her his hand, which she accepted with ease, and he pulled her up easily. When they went to the boats like this, neither of them exchanged a word. They just enjoyed being close to each other.

Arrived at the jetty, Kairi was horrified to find that her boat had kissed the ocean floor. Her boat was nowhere to be found.

"Oh dear."

"Do not worry. Just go with me," Sora said as he climbed into his boat and handed her his hand again, which she accepted hesitantly but then overconfidently.

Sora then released the rope from the jetty and rowed towards the main island.

"Should I-"

"I'll do it. After all it is my boat."

Kairi did not want to leave the work alone and to help him but it seemed that he did not need it.

Then there was silence again. Only the sound of the water while Sora paddled was heard, and the fireflies that appeared to be following them gave light to them on the way.

She looked over at Sora, who was staring dreamily up at the starry sky.

Her whole body became hot again and a tingling sensation was felt in the stomach area.

The sight literally melted her away and she sighed fondly.

"Sora?"

"Yes, Kairi?"

"Always stay the way you are."

Suddenly Sora stopped rowing and looked at him in confusion.

In the reflection of the water you could see how Sora had leaned over and closed the distance between them.

He then stepped away from her and left Kairi sitting with a bright red head and an open mouth.

"As long as I can do this, I'll stay that way," he grinned from ear to ear again and Kairi carefully touched her lips with two fingers.

"Agreed," she breathed, looking out into the star-studded night sky.

The glowworms lit up like firecrackers and only by touching did she feel like fire and flame.

She loved this feeling but above all, she loved him.
