November 2013
Tony DiNozzo was sitting at his desk, late one night. It had been an odd day. Eleanor Bishop from the NSA had started working in a liaison capacity with the team. The Secretary of the Navy had been bugged, the culprit getting inspiration from a paper that Bishop had written a few years before. Her role was temporary but it had the potential to become a more permanent role.
Tony glanced up, at the desk directly across from him. It felt weird to have someone else sitting at Ziva's desk. It felt weird to have to have another person on the team. Tony was just about getting used to just him, Tim and Gibbs when Eleanor Bishop made her unforgettable entrance. That being said, it did take Tony a while to get to used Ziva sitting at Kate's desk when Ziva first came along.
Ziva had now been gone for two months. Two months since Tony had last seen her, talked to her. It had been tough on him. Even if you put Tony's feelings for Ziva aside, he had a lost a colleague and friend, and not just Tony. Tim and Gibbs were also still feeling Ziva's absence. There was an awkward silence when Gibbs almost called Bishop Ziver. Fortunately, Bishop didn't seem to really care. Either that or she didn't notice.
Tony signed the last bit of paper. He clicked the end of his pen, placing it in a pen pot and was about to start packing up for the day when his cell phone rang.
'DiNozzo.'
'Tony?' Tony almost dropped the phone at the sound of her voice.
'Ziva?'
'Yes, Tony. It is me.'
'What's going on? Are you OK?' Her phone call out of the blue had Tony worried.
'I am fine, Tony. I, um, do have some news that you need to know about.' Tony's stomach did a backwards somersault. Had she moved on from him?
'Oh yeah, what is it?'
Ziva paused, taking a deep breath.
'I am pregnant Tony.' Tony didn't say anything. 'Tony?' asked Ziva.
'You're pregnant?'
'Yes, Tony.'
'I… I… I thought we used protection?' he said eventually.
'We did' said Ziva. 'But we both know that it is not 100% effective.
'Yeah, but…' Tony trailed off. He didn't want to say anything that would upset Ziva. If the past two months had been a struggle for Tony, he couldn't imagine how difficult they could be for Ziva. Tony almost picked up the phone to call Ziva a dozen times a day or found himself looking at airline tickets to Tel Aviv or composing emails to Ziva in his head whilst on stakeouts.
'I'm glad you called' Tony said after a while. A cleaner walked past, wiping windows with a yellow cloth.
'I was on the fence about calling you' said Ziva. She sounded quiet, like she had been crying, or was that because it was long distance? 'I do not want to disrupt your life Tony.'
Tony sighed heavily.
'Ziva, you are not disrupting anything. I promise you.' He glanced around the squad room and realised the time. 'Listen, it's late here. I need to home, get some food and hopefully sleep. Do you mind if I call you tomorrow?' Tony had his fingers crossed, hoping that she wouldn't say no.
'Yes, that is fine Tony, We can talk tomorrow.' Tony closed his eyes. He was thankful that she had said yes, but it all felt too formal between them.
'Um, OK. I'll call sometime tomorrow. I guess we have a lot to discuss.'
'I suppose so' said Ziva.
'OK.' Said Tony again.
'OK' said Ziva again.
'Right. Oh, um, Ziva?'
'Yes?'
'Happy birthday Ninja.'
Hope you enjoyed it.
This is the first chapter of a new multi-chapter. I don't know about you but I'm a little tired of seeing Coronavirus related things in the news and media. So here is something that has absolutely nothing to do with the virus and is a happy tale of love and family.
Reunion is still in the works. Just figuring out what happens next.
See you soon and stay safe :)
