Projekt One Mortal
A Liu Kang x Zamasu Fanfic
The sky was red with an early evening glow. Shang Tsung's tournament had only just begun and his introductory match was over, but Liu Kang found himself eager for another bout. Taking a deep breath, Liu Kang stood up and readied his stance. He may be the youngest warrior in the completion, but he prided himself on being what he felt was the fastest. With quick jabs and piercing kicks, Liu Kang practiced his motions in rapid succession. Truly, the White Lotus Society had taught him well in the art of combat. He maintained his form without failure and performed techniques ones after another.
It was only when he ceased his punches that he noticed someone approaching him from the rear. Whoever it was, they made no effort to hide and emerged from the forest opening in bold confidence. This person was clearly male, though Liu Kang could not tell from where this man called home. His skin a light pale green, this individual approached with his purple sleeved arms folded behind, showing a small glimpse of muscle, exposed from a regal dark coat with extended pads over the shoulders. Albeit small, Liu Kang noticed pearly earrings hanging from the man's pointed ears, though it was the subdued white Mohawk hair that gained Liu Kang's attention. Whoever this man was, it would appear that he was not a commoner. He held his chin elevated, as if looking down upon Liu Kang, though he could tell that it was not the case.
"Mortal, your moves…" the man finally spoke, "They are quite intriguing, very much unlike what I have seen before."
"Is that so? I am honored to receive such praise from an Elder God," Liu Kang replied, assuming the man was akin to Raiden based on his use of such a grounding word.
"Elder God, you say? Please, I am but a mere millennia your senior."
"Only a millennia? You must take good care of yourself then."
The two chuckled. Liu Kang's nervous suspicions dissolved, the green man clearly no threat. The atmosphere pleasant, the regal sward stepped forward.
"I am Zamasu, in training to become a god."
"And I am Liu Kang, training for the tournament tomorrow."
Zamasu's eyes broadened, "A tournament?"
"That's right. Tomorrow I am to do battle with many warriors." Liu Kang explained, shifting to a more casual stance. He turned to face Zamasu, "I am fighting for the survival of Earthrealm!"
"Is that so?" Zamasu tilt his head.
"Yes. I must defeat Shao Kahn and win the tournament in order to spare my home from chaos."
Zamasu posture lowered, "This… Shao Kahn, is he a threat?"
"Indeed, he is the most fearsome ruler of Outworld. For centuries, Earthrealm and Outworld have been at war, a tournament being the celestial battle grounds. Shao Kahn has reigned victorious against Earthrealm these past nine bouts," Liu Kang's voice shook "If he wins again, the land as we know it will be ruined."
Zamasu's arms fell to his side, "That is rather troublesome."
"Very much. So, time is of the essence. The tournament has already begun, in fact." Liu Kang readied himself once more to continue his drills, though did not avert his gaze from Zamasu.
"Really? So you've already fought?"
"Yes, my match was first. I won, however—"
"I am not surprised. Your skills are well beyond the normal capabilities of most. You truly are a gifted warrior, Liu Kang." Zamasu interrupted.
"Y-Yes, but I must condition myself for my next opponent. Who knows, perhaps tomorrow's bout could be my last?" Liu Kang concluded, although taken aback by Zamasu's compliment. He was not used to receiving such high praise from a stranger, much less one who had only witnessed his simple sparring. Zamasu did not reply, leaving Liu Kang assuming the conversation was complete. He threw a couple punches to the air, shifting his focus to his training.
"That may be," Zamasu finally spoke, "But it is also true that you are very powerful indeed. I hardly see anyone defeating you in battle."
Liu Kang chuckled, "Thank you, but I am a mere student of the White Lotus Society. I have plenty of room for improvement."
"Very well." Zamasu took a step forward and readied himself, "Allow me to assist in your training."
"Are you sure? I am 'very powerful indeed' after all!" Liu Kang joked.
"Yes. I would like to see your skills for myself." Zamasu smiled.
"Alright then, let me show what I've learned for the White Lotus Society!"
"Please do!" Zamasu brought an extended palm across his chest with a folded fist tucked at his side. Liu Kang followed with a stance of his own, his hands curved and arms angled with protruding thumbs. Eyes fierce, the two men stared each other down, anticipating the first move, only the wind making any sound.
Liu Kang rushed Zamasu, letting out a shout of fury as he launched the first strike. However, as it reached him, Zamasu swatted the monk's fist away with relative ease. Liu Kang attempted to counter with a lower hook from his other fist, but Zamasu blocked using his elbow parallel, swatting Liu Kang's arm away to the side, opening his torso. Zamasu struck Liu Kang at the abdomen using a cross with the very same fist used to swat away his hook. Liu Kang stumbled back a few steps, trying to catch his breath.
"Is that all? My, I thought you would show me what this 'society' had taught you! I am rather disappointed." Zamasu taunted.
"Oh, I'm not done yet! Liu Kang shot a small fire ball from his open palm at Zamasu, who then promptly swiped it away. Distracted for a moment, his eyes widened as he noticed Liu Kang had closed the gap between them and was on the offensive again in a matter of seconds.
The Shaolin threw punch after punch, each one pushed away by Zamasu's nimble hands, though he was also pushing the green man back. With each attack, Liu Kang moved faster and faster, Zamasu's swipes becoming rushed and sloppy. Unable to keep up with such speed, Zamasu's torso opened, which Liu struck with both fists extended, sending Zamasu off the ground and falling face first to the dirt.
Zamasu slowly stood up, "Heh, you were quite fast. Perhaps I should start taking this seriously?"
"You probably should, yes. It would be embarrassing to lose to a mortal!" Liu Kang quipped.
"Very well, but remember: you asked for it!" Zamasu charged at Liu Kang with and extended fingers stab. Liu Kang leaned back to dodge it, only to be hit once again in the abdomen by Zamasu's other fist. Liu Kang countered with a swift kick at Zamasu's side, who then wrapped his arm around Liu's calf. Chuckling, Zamasu flipped backward, striking Liu Kang's chin with his foot, being countered yet again by an elbow from Liu Kang to the stomach.
The two smiled at each other, both men taking pleasure in the bout. It was as if they were acquainting each other through battle, a counter for every attempted blow. However, for every counter, Liu Kang etched further into an upper hand. Indeed, his speed did not fall on false ears. The two fighters rushed and locked shielded forearms against one another.
"Sorry, but it's time to end this!" Liu Kang roared.
"What?" Zamasu gasped, his guard lowered. Liu Kang jolted his fists upward, knocking away Zamasu's defensive stance, his entire upper body exposed. Taking a short step back, Liu jumped and charged with a flaming long kick.
"Uagh!" Zamasu heaved, his eyes wide and body folded. He fell to the ground with a hard thud to his back, panting.
Before long, the red twilight became a deep dark cobalt.
"Liu Kang… Your skills reign true! I…" Zamasu stammered to catch his breath, "I am very impressed."
"I should think so. I learned everything I knew from my White Lotus instructors." Liu Kang approached the fallen warrior and held out his hand.
"And instruct you well, they did! I am now even more confident that you will win your next match." Zamasu grabbed Liu Kang's palm and slowly rose, patting dirt from his robe.
"Thanks for sparring with me, Zamasu. I feel like I've been able to grow even stronger now!" Liu Kang bowed, connecting his left fist with an open palm on the right.
"The pleasure was mine! It has been some time since I've face such a formidable foe." Zamasu nodded firmly. Liu Kang smiled, before noticing the crickets chirping. As he looked to the sky, he saw that the red twilight had become a deep dark cobalt. The day had passed, now night.
"I suppose that's enough training for today. Come, won't you join me for a meal?" Liu Kang gestured.
"Very well! Please lead the way." Zamasu followed as Liu Kang walked towards a lit up building nearby. Although the roof was short, the structure itself was large, adorned with stone pillars and makeshifts covering the wooden walls. Reaching the majestic door, Liu pushed open and walked through, turning to Zamasu and nodding with a grin. Zamasu nodded as well and followed, sitting with his Shaolin friend at the edge of a rectangular wooden table. Before long, Liu Kang waved at a robed steward, who approached swiftly.
"I-I'm sorry good sirs, but at this hour we only have bread and potato stew left…" The steward whimpered.
"That is well enough for me. Does this suit you, Zamasu?"
"I am fine, thank you. Though if you have any tea, I'll have that."
"Yes sir! I shall return with tea and food!" The steward hurried off.
"This is quite the environment! Do you come here often?" Zamasu asked.
"Not as often as I'd like, but there are a few good dishes here."
"Oh? Such as?" Zamasu leaned in.
"Hmm? I don't know, this is my first time here."
"What? But I thought you had been here before."
"Was that not the answer you were looking for?" Liu Kang smiled.
Zamasu straightened up, "Heh, I suppose it was."
The steward returned with a small black cup of warm green tea and placed it in front of Zamasu, as well as a bowl of milky potato stew and a half loaf of rye bread for Liu Kang. Zamasu slowly sipped his tea, watching Liu Kang shovel the stew into his mouth. The two did not speak, simply partaking in companionship as they shared a meal. That is, Liu Kang attempted to share the bread, but Zamasu declined, waving his hand. Within the hour, Liu Kang's bowl was empty, as was the cup of tea, which Zamasu took quite some time to finish.
"That was delicious! Shall we move on?" Liu Kang stood up.
"Sure, but what will we do now?
"Well, seeing as how my match is tomorrow, I think it is best to head to bed."
"Oh, I see…" Zamasu frowned, "Does this mean we must go our separate ways?"
"Not necessarily. I only have one sleeping mat, but you are free to stay the night with me if you want. I would certainly enjoy more of your time!"
Zamasu's face brightened, "Yes, of course! Let us rest together for the new day!" He stood up, following Liu Kang who had turned and headed out the mess hall. Liu Kang lea towards a small clearing past the field, outside of the center of the island. There housed a navy tent with a mat inside. Although Liu Kang had found a way to rough it since his arrival, even he knew that the tent would not support the both of them.
"Forgive me, but I am not sure how this will work." Liu Kang admitted, smiling wryly.
"It is no problem. I can maintain the fire while resting when needed."
"Ah, of course. You're a god in training, right? I suppose you don't need to sleep."
Zamasu shook his head, "No, no I do not."
"Well, then you must allow me to sleep for the both of us!" Liu Kang shuffled onto the mat.
"Ha, you go right ahead! I will be waiting for you to awake. Good night, Liu Kang."
"And good night to you too, Zamasu!" Liu Kang turned, facing the inside of his tent. Breathing deeply, he cleared his mind and lowered his eyes lowly, drifting away into a pleasant night's sleep.
K-Kitana! Kitana!
Surrounded by a thick blackness, Liu Kang chased after the woman in blue he had met prior: Kitana, princess of Edenia. Although their encounter brief, Liu found himself infatuated with her. He longed to see her again, tournament or no. As he continued to call out to her, she stopped in her tracks. Slowly turning, Kitana smiled and approached the Shaolin. Parting her lips, Kitana tilted her head slightly and gently smooched Liu Kang. The two wrapped their arms around each other and kissed, tongues wiggling. Kitana broke apart and smiled again at Liu Kang, keeping eye contact as she lowered to her knees. Liu Kang gasped with the glee of a young boy. The blue princess untied Liu's sash and pulled down his pants and briefs. Exposed, Liu Kang moaned as Kitana partook herself upon the Shaolin's dripping dragon. As the princess quickened herself, Liu Kang struggled to keep the doors closed. He exclaimed, unleashing a white fire all over Kitana's face. She stood up, the cream dripping to the floor from her chin. Although Liu Kang felt relaxed from Kitana's performance, he wanted much more. He held her wet face, leaning in and—
"Ah!"
Liu Kang opened his eyes, the morning sun having rose. He arched himself up slightly, realizing his sexual adventure with Kitana was only a dream. Liu looked down at his waist, noticing a slight wetness to his briefs. It would seem that he enjoyed himself outside of the dream as well.
"So, you're awake now." Zamasu greeted.
"I am. Good morning." Liu Kang replied. As he yawned and stretched, Liu Kang noticed Zamasu had kept a napkin to his mouth for quite some time, "Looks like you were hungry after all!"
"Yes, I had some… cream for breakfast."
"Well, I hope you saved some for me!" Liu Kang laughed.
"Oh, don't worry. You still have plenty left." Zamasu smiled at the Shaolin.
