Merlin's P.O.V.
I stared out over the lake, holding Excalibur. Looking down at the sword, I raised it up in front of me looking at it. I threw Excalibur into the lake and it was caught by Freya's hand and drawn back under the water while I watched, resigned. Laying Arthur in a boat, his cloak arranged and his hands folded over his chest, I placed a hand on Arthur's forehead, breaking down.
"Arthur. In sibbe gerest," I muttered, tears falling freely down my face. The boat sets off on the lake, while I watched, weeping from the shore
I gasped suddenly, wrenched from the dream as tears fell from my eyes. My head rested in my hands and I looked out the window of my apartment in England. It had been around 1500 years since Arthur died but I still felt guilty for not doing enough to save him.
'Foolish,' I thought, getting up out of bed and pacing around the room. It was foolish to blame myself for it wasn't me that struck the final blow. I groaned when I remembered the boarding school I was being sent to.
"This'll be interesting," I muttered, getting dressed for the occasion. I put on my famous neck scarf and grabbed my suitcase. You see, the thing with this boarding school is that it allows you to dress how you choose.
"Merlin! Are you ready? It's time to go!" mom shouted from downstairs.
"Coming mom!" I shouted back, picking up my backpack and grabbing my suitcase. Walking downstairs, I looked at the pictures on the walls, smiling slightly. A wonderful smell hit me when I walked into the kitchen and I grabbed a piece of bacon to eat from my plate. Mom smiled at me and we walked outside to the car. I put my suitcase in the trunk and got into shotgun. It's funny the words people use to name stuff. My mom put the car into drive and we left the house.
"Are you quite sure you remembered everything?" mom asked as soon as we got there. I laughed slightly.
"I remembered everything. You have nothing to worry about," I reassured her. She smiled and opened the trunk. I grabbed my case and began to walk towards the school, shooting a smile at my mom. Passing the gates was sort of nerve racking but I grinned at the name.
'Albion Academy… I get the feeling I'll find more here than education.'
The best part about the school is that it looked like an authentic castle and it felt like home. A little ways in there was a table. I walked up to it and smiled.
"Hi, what's your name?" the boy at the table asked.
"Emerson," I said and smiled. The boy looked down the list, stopping on my name.
"Merlin?" he asked, looking into my eyes.
"Yup!" I said
"You're in dorm 16. Oh and I'm Lance, by the way. Lance Lakeman," he replied and smiled, handing me the key. I waved to him and he smiled.
"Oh Merlin, what have we gotten ourselves into this time," Lance muttered, low enough that I couldn't hear.
"Where's the target?" an obnoxious voice said, loud enough for a lot of people to hear.
'Oh boy. I have a feeling I know who's saying that.'
"It's over there?" a different, more timid, voice responded.
"It's into the sun?" the first voice said, as I rounded the corner.
'Yup, I know.'
"It's not that bright," the curly haired boy, who the timid voice belonged to, said.
"A bit like you, then?" the blonde said, his buddies laughing behind him.
"I'll just put the target over there then," the curly haired said, beginning to move the target. While he was moving it, however, the blonde threw a knife at the unsuspecting boy.
"Hey! Hang on!"
"Don't stop!" the blonde, Arthur, shouted.
"Here?" the other boy said, stepping back a few feet.
"I told you to keep moving," he threw another knife and the other boy began to move back and forth. After a few knife throws, the target fell from his arms and rolled to my feet.
'Well, time to intervene.'
"Hey, come on, that's enough," I said, echoing my previous self.
"What?"
"You've had your fun, my friend."
"Do I know you?"
'Yes.' I thought
"Er, I'm Merlin," I said out loud, holding out my hand.
"So I don't know you," he responded, walking closer to me.
"No."
"Yet you called me 'friend'," Arthur said, a confused look on his face.
"That was my mistake," I told him.
"Yes I think so."
"Yeah, I'd never had a friend that could be such a prat," I said, beginning to walk away.
"Or I one who could be so stupid," a hand landed on my shoulder. "Tell me Merlin, do you know how to walk on your knees?"
"No," I said, looking at him.
"Would you like me to help you?"
"I wouldn't if I were you."
"Why? What are you going to do to me? You're skinny as a twig!" he laughed with his buddies.
"Well, at least I'm not as fat as you are," I commented, smirking internally. He laughed a bit longer before punching me in the eye. I fell, supporting what I knew would be a black eye. Arthur smiled and walked away. As the crowd dissipated, I saw Lance coming towards me. He shook his head.
"You never can keep out of trouble, can you Merlin?" he asked, holding out a hand. I grabbed it and looked at him in confusion.
"What do you mean? Unless…" my eyes widened. "Lancelot?"
He grinned and bowed slightly. "In the flesh."
I grabbed him suddenly in a hug, letting go just as suddenly.
"H-how?" I asked, smiling.
He shrugged. "I don't know, something you must've done the last time we saw each other. But anyway, we still have to find dorm 16."
He began to walk away, presumably to dorm 16.
"Who else do you think is back? Arthur obviously, but who else?" I voiced my thoughts aloud. He shrugged.
"Possibly all those that were there during the whole thing with the Dorocha, I would guess."
"That could be the case, but how long until they remember?" I asked, looking at the doors.
"How long until 'they' remember what? Who are 'they' by the way?" a voice asked from behind us. I jumped and turned around.
"Hello, George," Lancelot said, unfazed. He grinned and looked towards me.
"Who's your new friend here?"
"Oh this is Merlin. He's a new student," Lancelot responded, looking at George. He smiled at me and patted Lance on the back.
"Well, I'd better go, see you later Lance!" he said, still grinning as he ran off to a different group of friends. I stared at Lancelot with a smile on my face. I pointed in the direction where George, sorry, Gwaine went.
"That's gotta be Gwaine," I said, still grinning. He shrugged.
"We'll see," he replied, "Though there is a strong chance that it's him."
"Not just strong I'd say," I commented, looking at the doors as we passed. "Ah here we go, dorm 16. I'll see you later Lance."
"See you later Merlin."
I unlocked the door and walked inside. What greeted me was a girl that smiled from the couch. She had black hair and green eyes that echoed Morgana.
"Oh hello, you must be Merlin," she said. "What's happened to your eye?"
I winced, reaching up a hand to prod it gently. "Oh yeah, I had a run in with the resident 'prince'."
Her eyes widened slightly, "I didn't think he had the guts to punch someone."
I shrugged, gesturing to my bags. "Where should I put my stuff?"
She pointed to the stairs in the corner. "Up the stairs to the right there's an empty room. You should go to the nurses office and get that eye looked at."
I nodded slightly, before realizing I hadn't gotten her name. "What's your name, by the way?"
"I'm Morgan."
'Oh here we go again…'
"Anyway, I should go to the nurse, like you said," I walked out of the dorm and sighed, poking my head in again, "where is it?"
"Just down the hallway, turn left and it should be there on the right," she said and I thanked her, heading that direction.
